Same issues with the Gear 360 (2017) in combination with this software. Both with photo and video content... Is there any good program to stitch the files first (Mac) before importing into Insta360?

Great find, this is an amazing editor, will fit nicely with my video editor. A point to mention may is that it outputs normal 16:9 video, so viewers can't look around in the end video. It does do that in a very good way, so great still. Do you know a software that let's you move viewpoint and still keep the 360 experience? A little annoyance is that for some reason I can't move the playcursor to specific points in the timeline. If I drag it to a specific time and let go, it reverts to 0:00, doesn't stay where I dragged it. Any ideas why? Im on Win10. I can pauze the video though, keeping the cursor in place and edit the keyframe, so I can work around it a bit. I have a single-lens Pano View 360 cam now, tomorrow the LG 360 Cam get's delivered and when it's finally available in Europe I'll get a Kodak 4KVR360/Orbit360. Totally infected by the 360 virus! :D
+Frank Maurits hey- what you're referring to is a 360 video and that's very different to what I'm doing here- this is video animation. You can edit 360 video easily in Premiere. Also essentially the higher resolution your footage, the more issues the software will give you, including playback. I get the same thing all the time unfortunately

Your tutorial is great! Straight to the point with awesome how to examples. I have an insta360 One, however, it seems my camera, just as yours in the video, has some major chromatic distortion. You can see what I am referring to at the tree top at 8:41 in the upper left corner of the frame. I can only hope the makers of Insta360’s are working in making them better. Chromatic distortions and even pixelation in 4K video footage is not really acceptable with a camera that promises so much.
@@BenClaremont True, and after seeing you review on the the 360 X and others on TH-cam, looks like they have improved it a lot. So, I don't feel sorry for placing the order on Insta360 X about 2 days ago. Said it will ship within 4-5 days so, I am waiting.
Hi! Terrific video !! - I want to follow more, BUT... I've downloaded the insta360 studio software and it functions only to play the 360 video - no other buttons or functions work at all. So, here's a couple questions... 1. My video content is from the go pro fusion, and has been rendered as a MP4 file, so it plays, but no other functions or buttons on the insta360 Studio "light up" or work at all - these files are at 4096 x 2160 @ 29.97 fps... Do I need to change the Frame size or?? or, do I need to change the file type from a MP4 to something different? 2. Or... Do I need to have a way to "log in" with a "account and Password" before all the functions turn on? Thanks soooooo much for the help!!

Hy Ben, Thanks for your Tutorial. Ive have a little problem with my PC version: After placing a Start and finish keyframes my video gets blocked and I can't use the play bottom to view the select area and place keyframes. Have you had this issue ?

Hi Ben, Ive just got my 360 one X, I have seen quite a few comments about blank or black video. I tried to stitch and export in Studio 2019, but each time the audio is there but the screen is black, the file just doesn't export from studio. Is this a problem you have solved?
Are you sure you imported the files correctly? Each video from One X has 2 files you need to import to the software. Also make sure you have the latest version.
@@BenClaremont Thanks Ben, I figured out what it was. The OS needed updating, for new codecs. It was a mission and a half as my OWC SSD on the mac doesn't support Firmware partitions, but all good. Can't wait to incorporate the 360 in my videos!
Hey great tutorial! I can't seem to find this anywhere so here it goest, I've recently downloaded the Insta360 Studio for ONE X but it now says its the Beta version (3.1.2). I have way less options on my interface than you do on this tutorial. It seems like they made a way more simplfied version. I can still view my clips in asteroid mode and the other modes but when I export it always ends up with the equirectangular mode. There's no options for a recorder mode or anything like that. Wondering what my options are? Thanks for all your help man!

Hey, Ben - found your awesome channel when searching for Spark Tiny Planets. Now you got me wanting to buy a 360 Camera. Which one should I get? Also, I already have and use Final Cut Pro. I noticed it has support for 360 images and videos along with key frames etc. Is the support there essentially the same as Insta 360 Studio?
Love this video. It was very nicely done and was all excited to create my own with my new Gear 360 (2016). Unfortunately, when I hit the Export, it gets an unknown error right away in Windows. I then tried a Mac and was excited to see it process the video, but then just when it's about done, it also gets an unknown error. Driving me nuts. Has anyone else have this problem? I can't find anything one this error.
At first I had a hard time understanding what the refresh icon was, but I found the closest thing to it, which was a Restart button. Amazingly it worked. Thanks so much.. I can't believe the software makes me process twice though, but free is free.
Great tutorial. But I can’t find overcapture/record option in Insta360 studio for one X for PC. I know it’s in beta, but I would assume they would put some kind of editing capabilities into the software. You can’t do anything with it except trim and export. What’s up with that?
@Ben Claremont Thanks, that’s what I thought. But I would use it already...🤣 I bought the camera and didn’t want to step down to 4K in mobile app. And I want to use free capture exclusively. I guess there is no choice at this time. Hope they will develop it soon. 👍
If you keyframe a video in free capture with camera movement left to right and export it,will it still be a 360 video? Just with the main focus changing if they just want to watch and not look around? So it can't be aesthetic by both people but still aimed towards what you want them to see. I explained my question horribly🤦 maybe you'll understand what I'm asking 🤞
Hi Ben, can you show us how to upload a 3D video to TH-cam? There are some other videos out there on this, but when you follow the advice, you find that the 3D format feature has been deprecated, and now it seems much more complicated.

This great but my FCPx wont import the insp or the insv files for that matter. For video I saved as mp4 and it comes in to fcp but the only way i can get a insp photo in is to make it a .jpg first. It loses something when i try this and when going back into studio 360, the stiching doesnt line up, a very hard stitch line. Short version, can these .insv/p files be imported directly, is there a plug in to do so, information seems to get lost in the conversion. Thank you
Hi Ben, Insta360 studio does not working with Samsung gear 2017? I just get photo edit. When I open a video, I can ear the sound but the preview be all in black. Wich mac editor could be cool for me using my samsung gear 360 2017? Could U pls help me?
Great video Ben. Just used my 360 one x on a ski holiday. Have tried editing on the app which was ok, but would prefer to use Studio so that I can move everything across to Filmora to mix in with my GoPro footage. I've had a quick look at Studio, but both times I've opened it and tried to drag in media it has stopped working. Any issues like this yourself?

Thanks. Just started playing with it on Windows 10. Started with still 360 photos and thought I was saving screenshots to a chosen folder on my hard disk but they don't actually save. Tried repeatedly with no luck? Advice?
Yeah. The file directory structure shows up, lets me chose a folder, name the file, and everything. But nothing there after saving. But now have worse problems. The software crashes every time I load a video into it. I've tried fully uninstalling and re-installing but no love.
Re:crashing.. try importing a photo first (even if you don't want to do anything to it) then try a video after that. That's helped me whenever it crashed. I really don't know know what the save directory issue is- saving has worked flawlessly every time for me, so i'm guessing it may be an issue with your computer, where it's saving to a different location. If you see the 'export in progress' bar then it has definitely saved, it's just a matter of finding it.
thank you. wantto say I own a gear 360 2017. like the others a currupted file. I used PowerDirector 15 Ultimate and rendered hte file. and once placed in I am able to have fun, the program is a lil different of what you showed but I am sure it is just updated to a better platform. thank you for the excellent job FISH
Dear Ben, First i must say you have awesome channel about 360 videos i just bought the gopro max and i'm looking for a simple software editor i saw you video about the 360 studio it seams the right tool for me because it is simple to use Unfortunately i can not edit gopro max file with 360 studio - it says file corrupt Even jpg files are shown as a flat pic and spherical I am very disappointed with MAX it seems that it can only be edited with adobe Pr which i do not understand how to work with i will say that i use gopro max exporter before i try to use the file (.MOV) with the 360 studio You help is much needed Thank you
The transition tool of the Insta360 software is amazing. Stiching is not so well working with Samsung Gear 360 footage but who would blame Insta360? Thank you so much for your work Ben!
Hi Ben. Love your 360 tutorials. Just got an Insta360 One x and finding it difficult to edit. Downloads the Insta Studio for the One x but its a (beta) version and on Windows its very limited what can be done. Guess its still under development ! Imported in to Adobe Premier, but again the editing is just the standard stuff with no 360 effects. Any advice appreciated.
Can you layer video in the timeline? ...like have several layers of video tracks? I'm looking for the best, easiest way to layer a few video tracks with ME positioned in different areas in the same room...so I can crop each layered video track to make it look like there's multiple ME's in the same room. Hoping I don't have to use FCPX to do it...but if I do, then so be it.

Hey, another great Tutorial - many thanks!!! I try it out with thetaV-videos but most of the Buttons are grey out - no work possible (PC, Win10) I read about the ration 2:1 - the ThetaV video is correct 3840x1920 Did you know the reason? Do you know a alternative SW with less cost? Thanks so much.
Hey, yes i tryed it with both - same result (all NTSC). I´ll try it next week with PAL. i think one of the other software on my system are the reason for the trubble- dont now witch... i try it next week on a fresh virtual a virtual machine. I´m apparently one of the only people with problems :-(. i´ll try it also in the insta360-forum. looks like new forum.insta360.com. Hey, i found the reason - in front of the computer :-). i did not realize that the insta360studio starts in player-mode. If i change to capture-mode all works propper! Thank you again.

Sweet tutorial...found it when searching how to convert a panoramic photo to a 360 video. I have now downloaded the Insta360 Studio. Is there any easy-to-fix reason my imported photo would not show up in the viewport?
I just noticed the part where you said the software still doesn't support converting an image, So, as it turns out, Windows 10 allows you to convert an image to a video, so I did, and now I am now proceeding with your awesome tutorial!
Hi, Thanks for your tutorials. We have bought a Insta 360 One X but can't figure out how to keep the videos and photos at high resolution when using Insta softwares (mobile, tablet or PC). As soon as we download it from the camera to the software (through the software itself) it compresses the photo/video into low resolution. For exemple for 4K video, we never manage to keep the 4K quality once downloaded on the softwware or app. How should we do? Thanks for your feedbacks. Saby

I redownloaded it but still the same problem. I know you are not the maker of the software but since you are the expert, I was wondering whether you might know the issue. thanks a lot!
Young360 are you familiar with the Nikon's post production workflow? Every camera is different and the footage needs to be processed differently before editing in other programs. Might be worth checking the Nikon website 👍
LIFE in 360 you are absolutely right. nikon keymission 360 timelapse setting (which had initially worked with insta360 studio) is 2:1 and the video setting at 4k is 16:9... so, those proper video from nikon keymission 360 does not work...what a shame....

Seems like a decent program, does it allow for reorientation of a photo sphere in terms of where the starting view is and how zoomed in or out that start view is? if not is there anything that would do that?

Thanks- the only advanced editor that’s free is davinci resolve and it can achieve basic 360 editing.. nothing like this or Premiere 👍

Have you figured this out? I'm getting the same thing.
You have to stitch it first, importing the files to the samsung program, and then import the YHC or XHC file generated to Insta360

Unfortunately it’s an old camera now and the One X fixes many of the problem with the original One, like this

Hi Ben, Ive just got my 360 one X, I have seen quite a few comments about blank or black video. I tried to stitch and export in Studio 2019, but each time the audio is there but the screen is black, the file just doesn't export from studio. Is this a problem you have solved?
Are you sure you imported the files correctly? Each video from One X has 2 files you need to import to the software. Also make sure you have the latest version.
@@BenClaremont Thanks Ben, I figured out what it was. The OS needed updating, for new codecs. It was a mission and a half as my OWC SSD on the mac doesn't support Firmware partitions, but all good. Can't wait to incorporate the 360 in my videos!

Can you use the optical flow stitching for footage from other cameras? I have the vuze+ and really all that's lacking is optical flow stitching
Hey great tutorial! I can't seem to find this anywhere so here it goest, I've recently downloaded the Insta360 Studio for ONE X but it now says its the Beta version (3.1.2). I have way less options on my interface than you do on this tutorial. It seems like they made a way more simplfied version. I can still view my clips in asteroid mode and the other modes but when I export it always ends up with the equirectangular mode. There's no options for a recorder mode or anything like that. Wondering what my options are? Thanks for all your help man!

Awesome tutorial Ben, I'm wondering what the best workflow is if you are going to color grade in Premiere Pro and you want to maintain the 5.7K video resolution. I'm guessing the only way to do this is within Premiere Pro? Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

Hey, Ben - found your awesome channel when searching for Spark Tiny Planets. Now you got me wanting to buy a 360 Camera. Which one should I get? Also, I already have and use Final Cut Pro. I noticed it has support for 360 images and videos along with key frames etc. Is the support there essentially the same as Insta 360 Studio?

Love this video. It was very nicely done and was all excited to create my own with my new Gear 360 (2016). Unfortunately, when I hit the Export, it gets an unknown error right away in Windows. I then tried a Mac and was excited to see it process the video, but then just when it's about done, it also gets an unknown error. Driving me nuts. Has anyone else have this problem? I can't find anything one this error.

At first I had a hard time understanding what the refresh icon was, but I found the closest thing to it, which was a Restart button. Amazingly it worked. Thanks so much.. I can't believe the software makes me process twice though, but free is free.
Great tutorial. But I can’t find overcapture/record option in Insta360 studio for one X for PC. I know it’s in beta, but I would assume they would put some kind of editing capabilities into the software. You can’t do anything with it except trim and export. What’s up with that?

@Ben Claremont Thanks, that’s what I thought. But I would use it already...🤣 I bought the camera and didn’t want to step down to 4K in mobile app. And I want to use free capture exclusively. I guess there is no choice at this time. Hope they will develop it soon. 👍
If you keyframe a video in free capture with camera movement left to right and export it,will it still be a 360 video? Just with the main focus changing if they just want to watch and not look around? So it can't be aesthetic by both people but still aimed towards what you want them to see.

Hi Ben, can you show us how to upload a 3D video to TH-cam? There are some other videos out there on this, but when you follow the advice, you find that the 3D format feature has been deprecated, and now it seems much more complicated.

Excellent as usual. Just one thing is unsolved yet for me. I can't set the starting angle of view on a video. It is allways one side, and guess what: often the wrong one...

This great but my FCPx wont import the insp or the insv files for that matter. For video I saved as mp4 and it comes in to fcp but the only way i can get a insp photo in is to make it a .jpg first. It loses something when i try this and when going back into studio 360, the stiching doesnt line up, a very hard stitch line. Short version, can these .insv/p files be imported directly, is there a plug in to do so, information seems to get lost in the conversion. Thank you

Hi Ben, Insta360 studio does not working with Samsung gear 2017? I just get photo edit. When I open a video, I can ear the sound but the preview be all in black. Wich mac editor could be cool for me using my samsung gear 360 2017? Could U pls help me?
It only accepts 4k (3840x1920) from non Insta360 cameras and gear 360 2017 is slightly higher. Reframing in Premiere will work 👍
Great video Ben. Just used my 360 one x on a ski holiday. Have tried editing on the app which was ok, but would prefer to use Studio so that I can move everything across to Filmora to mix in with my GoPro footage.
I've had a quick look at Studio, but both times I've opened it and tried to drag in media it has stopped working. Any issues like this yourself?

Thanks. Just started playing with it on Windows 10. Started with still 360 photos and thought I was saving screenshots to a chosen folder on my hard disk but they don't actually save. Tried repeatedly with no luck? Advice?
Hey Ben- you should be able to choose your save location right next to where you can create a custom file name.. is it not there?
Yeah. The file directory structure shows up, lets me chose a folder, name the file, and everything. But nothing there after saving. But now have worse problems. The software crashes every time I load a video into it. I've tried fully uninstalling and re-installing but no love.
Re:crashing.. try importing a photo first (even if you don't want to do anything to it) then try a video after that. That's helped me whenever it crashed. I really don't know know what the save directory issue is- saving has worked flawlessly every time for me, so i'm guessing it may be an issue with your computer, where it's saving to a different location. If you see the 'export in progress' bar then it has definitely saved, it's just a matter of finding it.

I used PowerDirector 15 Ultimate and rendered hte file. and once placed in I am able to have fun, the program is a lil different of what you showed but I am sure it is just updated to a better platform. thank you for the excellent job FISH

it seams the right tool for me because it is simple to use
Unfortunately i can not edit gopro max file with 360 studio - it says file corrupt
Even jpg files are shown as a flat pic and spherical
I am very disappointed with MAX it seems that it can only be edited with adobe Pr which i do not understand how to work with
i will say that i use gopro max exporter before i try to use the file (.MOV) with the 360 studio

Hi Ben. Love your 360 tutorials. Just got an Insta360 One x and finding it difficult to edit. Downloads the Insta Studio for the One x but its a (beta) version and on Windows its very limited what can be done. Guess its still under development ! Imported in to Adobe Premier, but again the editing is just the standard stuff with no 360 effects. Any advice appreciated.
Hey- yeah they’re still working on One X Studio.. for now you can do everything in the mobile app :)
Can you layer video in the timeline? ...like have several layers of video tracks? I'm looking for the best, easiest way to layer a few video tracks with ME positioned in different areas in the same room...so I can crop each layered video track to make it look like there's multiple ME's in the same room.
Hoping I don't have to use FCPX to do it...but if I do, then so be it.

Thanks- yes it’s as simple as unchecking ‘show nadir logo’ or something like that when you export.

How can you use this to keep a interactive 360 video? Seems like I can only set a perspective, effect, or animations.
If not then using a Mac what can I use to trim, add logo, etc.?

This whole program IS overcapture.. and now it supports flowstate with Insta360 One footage. Make sure you have the latest software version.

Hey, yes i tryed it with both - same result (all NTSC). I´ll try it next week with PAL. i think one of the other software on my system are the reason for the trubble- dont now witch... i try it next week on a fresh virtual a virtual machine. I´m apparently one of the only people with problems :-(. i´ll try it also in the insta360-forum. looks like new forum.insta360.com. Hey, i found the reason - in front of the computer :-). i did not realize that the insta360studio starts in player-mode. If i change to capture-mode all works propper! Thank you again.

Because the software has been updated hundreds of times since I made this tutorial, including the name of Record to Freecapture 😉
Sweet tutorial...found it when searching how to convert a panoramic photo to a 360 video. I have now downloaded the Insta360 Studio. Is there any easy-to-fix reason my imported photo would not show up in the viewport?
I just noticed the part where you said the software still doesn't support converting an image, So, as it turns out, Windows 10 allows you to convert an image to a video, so I did, and now I am now proceeding with your awesome tutorial!

Hi, Thanks for your tutorials. We have bought a Insta 360 One X but can't figure out how to keep the videos and photos at high resolution when using Insta softwares (mobile, tablet or PC). As soon as we download it from the camera to the software (through the software itself) it compresses the photo/video into low resolution. For exemple for 4K video, we never manage to keep the 4K quality once downloaded on the softwware or app. How should we do? Thanks for your feedbacks. Saby
It shouldn’t do that.. are you sure you have the correct workflow? Also you should be shooting @ 5.7k

Hi! Love your tutorials, but it doesn't seem to work for me. I drop my keymission360 footage to insta360 studio but the only thing I can do is to play.. every other buttons are greyed out. Young360 hey- I think it's probably to do with your footage.. are you sure it's the correct 2:1 aspect ratio, and has 360 metadata injected?

Young360 are you familiar with the Nikon's post production workflow? Every camera is different and the footage needs to be processed differently before editing in other programs. Might be worth checking the Nikon website 👍

LIFE in 360 you are absolutely right. nikon keymission 360 timelapse setting (which had initially worked with insta360 studio) is 2:1 and the video setting at 4k is 16:9... so, those proper video from nikon keymission 360 does not work...what a shame....

Seems like a decent program, does it allow for reorientation of a photo sphere in terms of where the starting view is and how zoomed in or out that start view is? if not is there anything that would do that?
You can only reframe photos, you can’t animate them. Check out my ‘photo animation’ video from about 10 videos ago to find the answer
