      rather, i think her habits cause the 'house' and 'is' to become one word, thus her mind is confused and adds 'ji' to replace 'is' thus it become 'my house'es zji new'

    You can tell here and when she got to the SC tongue twisters that if she takes her time, separates the words and speaks slowly she can speak english pretty well but here she is trying to "sound native" as she said so it gets a little difficult to maintain the flow of the sentence. Among the holomems she has pretty good english, a lot of vocabulary and she can express her ideas into words pretty well, you can tell from her metroid english-only streams.

    I've tutored Japanese people in English before, and tacking on additional vowels to the end of words is very common for them. I can understand Luna's problem with the pronunciation, and the only thing that can really help is a lot of practice and patience.

    • @Fawriel
      @Fawriel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That is... legitimately fascinating to me right now. Where does that "ju" come from? Is her auditory processing just so used to every consonant being followed by a vowel that it tries to find a way to force the English phrase into the same patterns it's used to, like one of those optical illusions except for hearing?

    • @amadeus484
      @amadeus484 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@Fawriel My guess is that she is subconsciously translating it into kana (マイハウスイズニュー, mai hausu izu nyuu) to make it a little easier to understand the pronunciation. Maybe that was how she was taught in English class in primary/secondary school?

    • @Fawriel
      @Fawriel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@amadeus484 I think I just figured it out, actually! The way the words kind of flow into one another in fast-moving English is tripping up her auditory processing. She vaguely knows what it’s _supposed_ to be like, but what she hears is like „mai hau-SSiz-zNyu“. So you get this „Mai Haussu-ju-nyu“ as her brain is trying to figure out those mysterious bits where the „is“ kinda seemed to merge with the words before and after it into something that doesn’t seem at all like the nice and tidy „mai hausu izu nyuu“ that her brain wants it to be.

    Stuff like this always makes me think of my mom. She had brain surgery almost 20 years ago and one of the lasting repercussions that's still with her is a subtle speech impediment. One of the most noticeable elements is her tendency to add additional vowel-syllables to certain words. (A notable example is "Nap-a-kin".)
