its so hard to explain. if you know it you just kinda.. know it. you see other people use the word and just sorta understand
Its amazing that we use these words daily without having a meaning for it and still understand each other
"Bruh" is probably the hardest out of these because its meaning is entirely dependant on context and tone. It can be used to convey a wide range of emotions.
That's because it means nothing but we pretend it means something and we give the meaning we want because of that
Why are you reading this ? Nice you just described language
@@sephikong8323 is that not all language?
@@Blakbox92 Depending on what you are referring to.
On a philosophical sense, technically yes, all words are just noises that we've agreed have a meaning. But the difference between "bruh" and your run of the mill word comes into play here : regular words have had a long and organic evolution to come to where they are now and their meaning is generally understood by most. The term "bruh" on the other hand is a neologism that has no real precedent and has no agreed concensus on it's meaning, therefore each person interprets it as they see fit, something that doesn't happen with say car, you cannot go to someone and say that car means dog and have them be fine with it because the meaning behind the term is largely agreed upon to not refer to a canine but to a vehicle whereas you can go see someone and tell them that bruh is a catchphrase, a sound of pain, a mark of irony or a deep religious sound similar to the Indian Om and the person would not bat an eye (except maybe with the last one since the person may think you are memeing, which you would most probably be if you said that) since there is no commonly agreed upon meaning.

Kusa / "grass" has quite a bit of history:
first, in Japanese, warai / 笑い means laughter.
in early days of MMORPGs, these games didn't have Japanese support, so people straight-up typed in "warai" on the chat.
And then they started to shorten it to just "w". As time goes on, the number of w started to express how much they laugh.
Later on, this act became to be called "kusa wo hayasu / growing some grass", as it looks like a grassfield.
Eventually, this also became shortened and just called "kusa".

@victor ` dont do that to the best and most innocent doggo, plus she needs her monetization :(
@victor ` yeah I know, Miko and a few other vtubers said it too and they were all pretty funny. But a short 20 second funny clip doesn't justify deleting an entire vod or series.
Also her saying it without knowing the meaning behind it, and her saying it while thinking it's a compliment because her chat tricked her are two entirely different things. The latter is just straight up disrespectful towards her due to how much damage that word can do and how much negative social media attention it can attract. It may be all in good fun for the viewers but third party social media don't care about intentions, they just want to find reasons to witch hunt. It's just a really mean thing to do and is the kind of incident that can cause distrust between the streamer and her viewers.
@victor ` Yeah you're right. Thanks for clarifying your intentions and being peaceful throughout this conversation. I'm also sorry if I came off as aggressive or mean. There are already enough problems within the Japanese vtuber audience/community and I just don't want the English community to spill over any of that Twitch chat toxicity as well.
I'm not saying that any of the conversation before this was bad, I just wanted to clarify intentions. I may not be in a position to do so, but I would want to do what I can to make the English vtuber community to be as wholesome and respectful as possible, and if it is me that has to change for that then I'm more than willing to do so.

It's weird to think about "bruh" being closer in meaning to "seriously" when it is literally a corruption of "bro" which is short for "brother".
And to have a full understanding of the purpose of the word, you have to explain that people call friends and compatriots "brothers", and that the slang evolved from using that term "brother" shortened to "bro" in an incredulous tone. And in fact, depending on context, it may not always mean incredulity.
Language is crazy man.
Yeah I never understood how languages diverged from a common language until the internet was a big thing. Basically one person changes a word slightly and it catches on
I mean I heard the slang "bro" which is usually used by someone who you are in close terms with like a really good friend so to me it's not really a surprise, it's just like a funnier way of saying it
language is a way so that we can communicate...as long the meaning is conveyed i think nothing is wrong😂
English is crazy.
For example, Russian is extremely literal. If you're trying to use a translation app to speak with someone in Russian, you can't use any metaphorical, slang or colloquial language.
Telling someone you munch good pussy in Russian would translate to "I eat well behaved cats." You have to say everything exactly as it is.
English is almost entirely used in colloquial, slang, metaphorical and hyperbolic language. It is so insanely context and tone dependant that it's no wonder people have such a hard time learning.
@@arleccino1313
All natural languages engage in metaphor, hyperbole and colloquialism. It is just that these are adapted to each individual language and so can't be literally translated into another language to convey the same semantic intent.
I would love to see them try to explain “weeb” to her. I know it’s similar to someone who would be called an anime otaku in Japan, but it also has that connotation of being a non-Japanese person who is a huge Japanophile. But it’s also become quite the self-deprecating term at this point, so sometimes it’s teasingly affectionate...
Japan has the a Weeb equivalent for people in love with western culture. Apparently King of the Hill has a big following in Japan for that exact reason. So much so they legit have Sub vs Dub arguments over it. The Guy who makes My Hero Academia is one of those people he’s not only super into American Comics, he loves Westerns and Star Wars and other stuff in those vein. Gran Torino is named after a Clint Eastwood Movie, a lot of locations are named after Star Wars planets, He makes references to Spider-Man and Wolverine and bases a few plot points from comics he’s read even down to mimicking classic Spider-Man comic covers.

She has inspired me to learn Japanese too. I've been casually learning through a mobile game aimed to teach the language and it has been quite effective so far. Still at hiragana, not looking forward to get it mixed up with katakana later, but doing it anyway. lol.
@@AdiBGart You mind sharing that mobile game ? I work in retail so i never have the energy to do stuff at home but i can do stuff on my breaks and commute time

@@AdiBGart yeah my dude, do share such knowledge with us!!!
Let me take this opportunity to say that already having a hobby of watching vtubers is big advantage for a Japanese language learner. You will find yourself expanding your vocabulary in a much faster pace since you probably have heard a lot of recurring words and grammar by now. Reading might not be the easiest to practice but if you want to, you can look for 切り抜き(kirinuki) channels out there that clips from vtubers' archive videos and put jap subs on it. It's a slow progress, but it will help you get used to seeing hiragana and katakanas (and later on, kanjis), and eventually be able to read and understand them.
If anything, I could say this is a more effective extra effort for enhancing your Japanese learning than with watching anime. One of the big downside is that vtubers tend to have a quirky talking habit/pattern and slightly rude expressions which isn't really suggested to be picked up by beginners, but the overall benefit still outweighs this.
Anyway, I hope you have a fun time learning Japanese!
happy one year anniversary to the video that threw me down the rabbit hole
Another round of TH-cam recommendations and I’m not disappointed

whenever she says "comecomecomecomecome!" my heart is destroyed, it sounds adorable
surprised nobody said “kappa”
probably because randomly calling a yokai in chat is weird.
true, imagine streaming one day and someone in chat just went "Satan" and it was just some random slang from a streaming site
lmao
@@sidekic1109 fun fact: "Satan" is a popular Finnish swear
@@somepersonwhowatchesandhas5198 indeed it is, and the word perkele is a synonym for a devil as well
@FrysassE the word satan (saatana in finnish) is a common swear word

Really all they needed to say is "it's an abbreviation of "brother wtf are you doing? Are you serious?""

Bruh has a lot of meanings. Aniki and majide are just one of them.
@@beu9245 well i dunno it didn't seem that long of a sentence to me v['-']v (then again it would also have to be written in japanase and dunno how long it is written that way)
