    • @promastersonly1419
      @promastersonly1419  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Surprisingly, we don't see that one that often. Most of the transmission stuff we get is either P0740 for the converter (rarely anything BUT the converter) or a cluster of pressure and solenoid codes that's usually a rebuild. If you type "62TE solenoid pack testing" you'll find a motorcity mechanic video that lays out how to test the pack, and once I determine the pack is good I'm kind of out of options. My knowledge doesn't go deep enough to know EXACTLY what's behind each code/symptom, so we are forced to recommend a rebuild. Like, even if I condemn the compounder, it's almost as much work to swap the compounder out that it is to do the whole rebuild. It pisses me off too, because I would prefer to know exactly what's wrong and exactly what will fix it, regardless of a rebuild.

    Happy New Year Kip, I discovered your ProMasters Only Channel about 6 weeks ago and binge watched every video. It's good and I appreciate it, thanks
    On a different topic, I saw in one video the Oxilam LED H7 replacements and immediately ordered a set for high and low beam. They are definitely an improvement and easy install. Then, in the wee hours of the morning I attempted to align the headlight pattern and I'm at a bit of a loss. Seems I can move the hot spot of the high beam lamps easily, but the low beam pattern doesn't seem to move, maybe some part of the focus mechanism is broken, or my eyes are deceiving me, or just a lack of understanding.
    Maybe a future video could speak to headlight alignment if you think there's interest.
    Thanks again.

    • @promastersonly1419
      @promastersonly1419  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's kind of a black art. There's an adjusting screw at the bottom of the headlight housing that adjusts it side to side, so you can point it inboard or outboard. But the mechanism that adjusts the vertical height has never seemed to work right for me. I end up adjusting it by shimming the headlight bucket 3 bolts with washers. Luckily, you get it right once and it never wanders.

    Maybe it's my bad luck, but buying the 2014 Promaster 1500 was the worst mistake I have ever made, I bought it, because I had a 2000 Ram 2500 for 15 years and never gave me any major troubles, so Ram was good on my mind, boy I was wrong . iI was with close to 90k when I bought it, at 124k the oil and the cooling fluid got somehow mixed for a plastic piece that cools the oil and cooling fluid broke (or so the technician said) 4000.00 repair bill, at 135k the back engine support that attaches to the transmission broke and the engine fell off, about a couple inches off the floor 3500.00 repair bill. At 154k the engine fell off again but this time the nuts that hold the engine support split braking transmission casing forcing me to replace the transmission with an used one for 3000.00 plus another 1200.00 labor. It cost me more on repairs than the purchase price, changing my perception of Rams forever.

    • @promastersonly1419
      @promastersonly1419  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I cant blame you for feeling that way. That trans mount breakage is truly oddball, never seen that or anything like it happen.
      It wont make you feel better, but ANY vehicle can turn into a money pit. Long ago, I bought a 1977 benz diesel wagon, supposedly the most durable car ever made. LEAST reliable vehicle I’ve ever owned.

    Used Promaster van listings have " Limited Slip Differential" in the ad. I have also seen "Posi Traction". Have also seen ESP and ATC listed. Your explanation would be appreciated. Thanks for another informative video.

    • @promastersonly1419
      @promastersonly1419  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Technically, all vehicles have limited slip, just a question of how limited. Posi traction refers to Chevy's brand name for a limited slip. Broadly, limited slip is for drag racers and off-roaders. It isn't going to matter for a van, and in fact would be fairly dangerous in snow and ice.

    We are talking about a Ram Promaster 1500 2014, with 219000 miles on it! At 207000 miles I've replaced the engine!

    • @promastersonly1419
      @promastersonly1419  ปีที่แล้ว

      This can be a tricky one, but either it needs a trans pump or a torque converter or both. But it does NOT need an entire rebuild, although you may want to because getting to the pump and converter is somewhat expensive. I have a video on this channel on the transmission pump that you should watch.

    @davesdiversions8078 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the great explanation. I been experiencing a brief grinding sound while the Cruise Control is on in my 2022 Travato, whether I'm using it or not. Sounds like I'm shifting a standard transmission and missing the gear. On occasion when the CC is actually in use maintaining the set speed, it will briefly "Grind" and disengage the CC, even on flat, normal highway driving at speeds of 60-70 mph (No bumps, high winds, etc). Any thoughts? Thanks.

    • @promastersonly1419
      @promastersonly1419  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes. When there is a problem with the traction control, the computer will disable the cruise control. So if I had to guess, you've got some issue with the wheel speed sensors, most likely in one of the front wheels. Perhaps one is grinding or otherwise jacking up the sensor, and that trips the traction/stability control and the cruise kicks off.
      If it's not that, I would watch my video on flexplate inspection. It would be damn rare, but it's possible that could do that. Not too hard to rule it out by inspecting it.

    • @davesdiversions8078

Still in service right now as an expeditor, but I'm wanting to get out of that business as the shop is monopolizing 60 hours a week of my time already. Mid to late spring, I was going to put a new/used bulletproofed in it, and have the transmission rebuilt whether it needs it or not (it doesn't, but 531 is pushing it). Clean it up and make it cosmetically nice. I figure with a new engine and transmission, and some kind of warranty from me, the mileage wont matter to the outside-the-box thinking buyer. Very well could be, but they make a pretty distinctive noise when they crack. Type into youtube "broken flexplate sounds Chrysler Town and Country" and you'll find a video by Online Mechanic tips that does a good job of recording the sound, and shows you how to slide under and inspect the flexplate.
      If that's not it, there is another test you can do to see if it's the "pentastar tick". Cut open a well used oil filter, and see if there's glitter inside. A little is normal, but it will be obvious if there's a lot.

I purchased a 2015 promaster 1500 last year, 2nd hand, and had 140k on it. has about 155k now. have noticed that sometimes after coming to a stop, the transmission wont shift from 1st to second unless I let off the gas, and also 2nd to 3rd . no rhyme or reason , just when it wants to. what is the first 1 or 2 things to look at ?

    • @promastersonly1419
      @promastersonly1419  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absent any codes, the first thing I would look at is the rear transmission mount, the one under it in the rear. After that, I'd take a good look at the fluid level and condition. But without a code, the only other thing to look at is data in the computer called "actual line pressure". This is the pressure coming off the transmission pump. That will take a semi-pro scanner to read, but any shop should be able to read it in 2 minutes. That will tell you a lot about where to go next.

      Unknown. I haven't laid hands on a 2022-up Promaster yet with the revised engine or new transmission. I expect the new 9 speed will be less serviceable than the 62TE, but that doesn't mean it's a bad transmission. Been in production for 6 or 7 years in other Chryslers, so I expect the bugs to be worked out.

    I’m preparing to do my first transmission service on my 2021 ProMaster and want to put in the Dorman pan with a drain plug just in case I want to do a fluid change without dropping the pan in the future. Dorman says their part 265-833 only fits through model year 2019 and doesn’t seem to offer a lower pan option for the 2021. I’m sure my van has the same 62TE as a 2019 and not the newer transmission in 2022/23 models. Do you know of any reason why the same part wouldn’t work or why there’s a break in applicable years for the pan between 2019 and 2020?

    • @promastersonly1419
      @promastersonly1419  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Dorman does that sometimes - their application charts lag sometimes. Likely, they designed that pan in 2019 and just haven't gotten around to updating the year range. It'll fit.

      Hard to say for certain since the 2023-up are too new to come into the shop. The new engine is a bit more complicated, but its been in other vehicles since 2017 or so and is reliable. I suspect the new 9 speed will be more reliable, but more expensive to fix when it does fail. The van itself has a few glitches with the collision warning stuff, but nothing major. Basically, reliable.

I get about 16 mpg measured average and it plummets on these downshifts. I'm tempted to just let it scream in 5th.

      @@everythingmaintenancellc3660 ok. The next step would be to find someone with a pro scanner and read what the computer thinks the pump pressure is. A regular consumer grade scanner usually wont read it. You are looking for something called the “actual line pressure”. Running in park, it should be 120-130psi. If it’s low, we know it’s probably the pump. Since you mention no symptoms or other codes, it’s possible the pressure sensor is bad, or the wires to it. The sensor is a relatively cheap/easy fix. We have a problem that no one seems to be able to diagnose. Scraping noise between 1500 and 2000 rpm. Doesn't matter if its in drive or park. Last shop thought they had found a cracked flex plate, took it apart turned out to be fine. I asked if they had started the engine with everything separated and they said they didn't think to do it until they had it back together to see if it was coming from the transmission or the bottom end. There are no other symptoms other than the noise. No weird shifting, no loss of power nothing, just the noise. I've watched every video i think that you have put out in hopes of pinpointing the issue. I did find one post with a video on the promaster forum of someone with the identical problem but they ended up replacing the engine and transmission together and never figured out the cause of the problem. Van is a gas 2018 3500 ext with 114k km. This is the only post i can find with a similar problem but they had error codes as well. www.promasterforum.com/threads/engine-noise.93138/#post-732703

    • @promastersonly1419
      @promastersonly1419  ปีที่แล้ว

      Tricky. First off, they couldn't have started the engine because the starter needs both the engine and transmission to be present to bolt in. The first place I'd go is something rubbing against the torque converter - some bit of something that got in there. But they probably would have seen that if they had it out. After that, I'd get under there with a stethescope to see if I could narrow it down, at least to an area. In theory, it could be coming from anywhere that spins. But there would come a point pretty quickly when I'd advise you to do nothing. In the absence of a symptom, or a deficiency, it's just a noise. I'd cut open a well used oil filter and look for metal, but I'm guessing you won't find any. It seems hard to swallow, but it's possible the best course of action is to wait for it to change or get worse or otherwise be a bigger problem.
