In 2022 before abreu was signed Mark DeRosa had a segment on MLB saying that Jose’s numbers have dropped in 2022 and that Mark thinks he’s dealing with injuries with his lower back fast forward to 2023 season Abreu was not hitting went on the IL list came back started hitting Fast forward 2024 he got even worse. I think Mark was right back in 2022.
Per team sources, “Jeff Bagwell and the Astros have reached out to and negotiated a deal signing Frank Thomas to play 1st the rest of the season.” The team got him for a steal signing him to 3 years for 96 million. Thomas will report to the spring training facility in Florida where he will work to re-galvanize his swing in hopes of providing that much needed shot in the arm. When asked about the deal Bagwell responded,” All you have to do is look at the back of the baseball card to know how good a deal this is.” Sources asked Thomas what he brings to the table and he responded,” I’d like to thank Jeff and the Astros for giving this old guy a shot, I will be bringing a suitcase full of Nugenix total-t with me to hopefully get these guys playing harder.”

I was sad to see Abreu leave the White Sox, but surprised that the Astros were willing to throw THAT much money at a 36-year-old 1st baseman. It proved to be a bad idea. A player can hit a precipitous decline at anytime beyond age 35. With the "arms race" (literally) in terms of pitching with so many guys throwing 100 mph, the era of the productive 38-year-old hitter might be done.

Perhaps it's just a natural decline Abreu is experiencing, and the team he joins won't matter. However, it was mentioned that he seemed to be more comfortable with the White Sox.

Astro's future is looking bleak, with the worst farm system in baseball and their stars getting older.
I made Astros fans mad somewhere else when I said that the 2024 Astros remind me of the 2012 Phillies, when it all fell apart from that strong '07-'11 run. Most of the stars suddenly got old and not much coming up. Astros shouldn't try to reload to try to keep it going. They should rebuild by trading Bregman, Verlander, Pressly, and even Tucker at the trade deadline; then try to trade Hader in the off-season. The Astros fan base doesn't really understand how much trouble they're in, especially beyond this season...
Astros farm system will have two pitching prospects in the top 100 by next year. You know nothing about that farm system.

They have been saying we had the worst farm in baseball for years. Prospect rankings are trash. None of our world series pitchers were even close to top prospects. In fact, the last top prospect I recall was kyle tucker.

And yet another example of the results of Guaranteed Contracts. The players lose all sense of Reality and the ability to compete. Except of course when that Contract is expiring. MLB should have a Two year Maximum Contract limit. Is it against MLB rules for Players to hire Private Coaches to help them? You would that someone who grew up Dreaming of playing in the Majors would do anything to stay and improve. But instead they get Lazy. Guaranteed if Abreu didn't have that Guaranteed money coming, he would be in a batting cage right now.
Abreu is a small potatoes problem compared to the potential Bogaerts contract situation.

As a lifelong Astros fan, that stuff really disappointed me. I know every team cheats in one way or another, but trash cans? In a heavily mic'd field? Everyone is still mad at Mike Fiers, but how can telling the truth be a bad thing? He obviously felt bad about it. It stopped us cheating immediately. We have paid our debt with draft pick losses for years, and constant excuse making by other teams, but then we find out the Dodgers were cheating in 2017 too, just makes me sad. At this level, you shouldn't need to cheat. But look at our team. We have lost a full quality 5 man rotation worth of SP this year on most teams, and we are still in the chase. Just wait. I think the Yankees should trade for Gary Sanchez and once you get him trade jode Trevino- a lot of grand would take him and we would get some decent prospects in return because teams need catchers.
Gary Sanchez has tremendous power and has a great throwing arm. He can play first for the Yankees while catching and that would Also give Austin wells more playing time.
Sanchez has reestablished himself-let him be our first base solution and we all saw what he can do at Yankee stadium
