    It’s a credit to you that you’re studying the language. It will expand your horizons!

      Absolutely 💯
      I’ve held back on traveling within the country until I do. That’ll be the focus of year 3 here!

    Hi Pete! You are one of the people who inspired me to travel to Thailand! I'm on Koh Tao right now doing some scuba diving. Keep up the good work and thanks for being so kind and thoughtful. The world needs more people like you!

      @@TerrenceThisisStupidStuff great poem! When I read you comment I thought you were just signing it lol (I didn’t realize that you took your screen name from the poem’s title)
      I get a dry pessimism along with some solid guidance from it. Some of those lines sting a bit but I’ve always found a certain beauty in many dark places. 🙏🏼

    I like your editing, I hate the TH-cam videos where they just drone on and on because they’re lazy to edit. Clear to understand, fast and witty speaker, interesting things in Pattaya, you might have something here.

      Editing is part of the fun for me, especially editing to music. I’m still pretty new at this but I’m enjoying the process of learning.
      Thanks for the comment and positive support 🙏🏼

    I enjoy the language topic. Some people choose not to learn when they can avoid it. However, learning the language seems like it’s worth the effort. I don’t know if it would be popular, but I’d enjoy hearing more about your language learning journey and the topic more broadly concerning what expats and locals think about it.

      I’ve got another 6 months of classes and my friends and family are always asking for updates so the topic will definitely come up again.
      Many folks here don’t bother learning it because it’s easy enough to get by without. Getting by isn’t enough for me.

    Love the first music track on this one. Your first day in class reminds me of when i began Spanish classes decades ago at Cal State, thought i was getting it all until it was my turn to speak, then my mind went blank. i did wind up speaking it pretty well though but won't tell you how many years of classes that took! Thanks again for the great video.

    It's true..I think the most important part of learning Thai are the tone's... you really have to hit the bull's-eye everytime..if you're alittle high..a little low..off to the right or off to the left you won't be understood.. practice.. practice.. practice. GOOD LUCK...

      Thanks for the comment Nathan and for sharing my adventure with me. I hear ya 100% on having the pups. I had planned on getting a cat (my beloved Chief passed in 2019) but then I got this idea and realized it just wasn’t the right time.
      Thai lessons are going well, today will be my 5th day of class. My next vlog should have an update on it but my next video will just be info on getting Thai visas in Laos.
      Thanks again for taking the time to comment. The channel is small enough I can reply to every comment and I enjoy connecting with other people here. I’ve met several of my viewers in person already! Have a great week! 🙏🏼

    I've got some great advice for your channel. I, too, am heading your way and looking to do a channel. I'm assuming you're not monetized yet. To boost your channel THOUSANDS of Subscribers almost immediately, head to the Philippines and do reactionary videos for a couple weeks. I saw another guy fall ass backwards into it and several others follow. The key is they speak English and love TH-cam. Good luck.

    • @peteonretreat2023
      @peteonretreat2023  ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting…. Thanks for the tip 🙏🏼
      The channel is monetized. Got there in about a month. I’ll be doing a video on the topic probably next week but basically… I know of a lot of things I can talk about and do to make the channel blow up but I’m not really sure that’s what I want. TH-cam is currently my 4th or 5th focus right now after my journey to better health, learning thai and playing D&D lol. After July though, I might make a more concentrated effort but right now, it’s mostly a hobby and way to socialize and connect with cool people.
      That said, the Philippines is on my list for next year… maybe I’ll try it out!
      There’s several of us TH-camrs that started here in Thailand within a few months of each other. Some of us have blown up like crazy, some of us are in the middle of the pack like myself, and some are struggling for subs. It’s a very interesting world. My channel just started off as vlogs to show my friends and family my life here but then surprisingly other people watched it, and the community started forming. I appreciate your advice and watching my channel… thanks again for the tip!🙏🏼

    Great vlog Pete as always. I've often wondered how medications work there, I have repeat meds every day for the rest of my life. How would that work in Thailand? Enjoy your visa run 😎

    • @peteonretreat2023
      @peteonretreat2023  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Les! You can usually google to see what’s available here. I take 2 allergy meds and they’re both available (in the wurst case online). For many meds you just go straight to the pharmacy, no prescription needed. For some though I’ve been told you go to a hospital (or possibly clinic or doctor) and get a prescription. There’s so many retired older expats here that just about everything is available as long as the country has approved it for import. I’m not sure what insurance covers and doesn’t (I still need to switch from travelers insurance to Thai insurance) but the prices are a fraction of what they are in the states.

    • @lessharkboy
      @lessharkboy ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@peteonretreat2023 thanks, that's good to know. I'll do some research! Here in the UK I'm on a repeat prescription that I have to have approved by the doc once a year. Like you say a lot of expats must have a similar situation.

      Currently on a tourist visa working towards my retirement visa. My studying would qualify me but local immigration stopped giving education visas to people my age. 😞

    Hello, how much time takes you to get ED visa and how much school lessons cost? Thank you!

    • @peteonretreat2023
      @peteonretreat2023  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven’t gotten an ED visa but I don’t think it takes too long. (A few weeks probably?)
      Since I’m 50 now, immigration wants me to do a retirement visa instead.
      My classes were 8,900 baht ($270 usd) for 1 month but only 28,990 baht ($878 usd) for 6 months (or $146/month). It’s even cheaper if you sign up for a full year.
