Open City: Japanese Invasion of the Philippines 1941 - Part 5
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 4 ก.ค. 2024
- In late December 1941, following the failure of MacArthur's gamble to hold the Japanese invaders at the beaches, the fate of the Philippines seemed sealed. As the Japanese successfully stormed the shores of Lingayen Gulf and Lamon Bay, splitting Luzon, the largest island in the Philippines, in half, MacArthur had no other alternative but to order his troops to withdraw to the Bataan peninsula, where he planned to make a last stand and at the same time he decided to abandon all efforts to defend Manila declared it an open city, to save the capital from destruction and to minimise civilian casualties.

This is brilliant. Thank you, my father was with the USAFFE - he survived the Death March. I will share this with my kids, they never met their grandfather. Thank you 🙏
Thank you very much!!!
I read Day of Deceit by Robert Stinnett. You should read the message FDR/Navy sent to McArthur to let the Japanese hit US bases, even though McArthur's listening stations had every chance to sink Japanese warships carrying J troops with US subs in the area. All our American and Filipino allies died due to FDR's insistence to follow MccCollum's 8 Point Memo.
@@luigivincenz3843 thanks. I may have to get hold of this book to get a full understanding. Based on my web search so far, the memo refers to provoking Japan to attack USA. Are there other books or literatures that will confirm?

China was able to encroached upon the Philippine because the Philippine Senate terminated the Philippines/US Military Bases Agreement, forcing US Forces to abandon it's bases within Philippine territory. Before the termination the US FORCES were patrolling Philippine territory and preventing any encroachment that are immediately detected through their extensive radar and satellite facilities. The US Forces also employed over 80,000 Filipino workers who's wages are at par with those of American workers. The US also allows Filipino youths to enlist with the US Navy at the rate of 20,000 a year, thus about 4 million Filipinos who.were were given immigration privileges after serving with the US Forces are now sending home about 10 billion dollars a year to.their relatives in the Philippines. The departure of US Forces also resulted to reduction of Philippine GDP by 5% representing the expenses of US service personnel and maintenance of US and salaries and benefits given to Filipino base workers. Now you want to kick out the US Forces? And welcome Chinese POGOS?

Pulang Araw brought me here. Very interesting video and scary at the same time
loved the presentation and animation of this video! just great! Rival with original "Battlefields" series! well done !
Thank you very much!
I did three foreign service tours in Manila as a printing specialist 1983-87, 90-95 and 99-2001 managing the US Information Agency printing center which was established there in 1950 shortly after the war and visited many of the locations mentioned in the video and also stayed at the Ambassador’s residence at Camp John Hay were the surrender if the Philippines back to the Americans was signed. I also had a chance to visit Corregidor several times and the MacArthur suite at the Manila Hotel where he lived before the war, which while I was there on my first assignment was taken over by rebel soldiers trying to overthrow Cora Aquino after the ouster of Marcos by the People Power Revolution. During my second tour there the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo
forced the evacuation of Clark and the decision of the US to pull out of Subic due to lack of support by the Philippine government at the time.
This is the best explanation of the WWII occupation and retreat I’ve seen.
Thanks!!!
Your government made the terrible mistake of supporting the yellow movement of the tyrant dictator cory aquino just because your country kowtowing with maoist china during that time.
Now both our countries suffer the consequences by my country Philippines suffering to communist terrorism and USA suffering from the progressive movements painted with the same literal color that ruined my country in the 1980's
Excellent! One of the best presentation of the USAFFE retreat into Bataan. So many details woven into tightly packed gripping story lines, brought to new life by the animation and the video clips. Thank you for a refreshing take on this rather obscure campaign of the Pacific War.
Thanks!
And let's never forget Bataan. Allied soldiers were forced to walk many miles on foot alongside Japanese soldiers ... also on foot. Being Americans, they should have been given bus service! Oh, and lets not forget how they attacked the wives and children of those soldiers, carpet-bombing and firebombing American and Australian cities. Oh wait, no they didn't. That's what the Allies did to the wives and children of Japanese soldiers. Hmm...
I don't agree they are poorly trained philippine scout's marksmanships at that time were one the of the best in he world as they were trained by McArthur personally. They doesn't lack perseverance courage either as they did all the fighting and dying delaying Japan's war plan in asia for months and saving australia. They just lacked ammunition and equipment

Where is the color video, of the Japanese tanks entering a town, and Philippino civilians waving Japanese flags at them, in the video?
A good question.
Watch time 23:01 and you will see Philipinos welcoming the Japs.
That cover image Japanese parade was not taken in the Philippines but rather in Japan. Notice that kids were wearing white ball caps 🧢. Filipino kids back then did not wear those caps.
that was an amazing presentation

Nice video as always ♥️
Thank you so much 😀
Actually good timing of this video because I am currently on vacation in the Philippines; way down south on Samal Island. I’m midway through video but I heard of a several old abandoned Japanese bunkers just south of general santos city but only one is visible; rest were either destroyed or completely buried. Not sure if any fighting happened there though.
There is so many Japanese tunnel here especially in the foot of Mount Matutum.
Thank you for this
Probably Philippines would have a best economy now if only Japan did it in a diplomatic peaceful partnership. War will always not a great way to coexist in a region.

Japan's leaders made very bad decisions just right before WWll began. One of them was the choice they made when they picked Hitler as their ally. Who could forget the bombing of Pearl Harbor, a deadly provocation that led to the US all-out involvement in the war. They'd underestimated and miscalculated many things throughout the conflict. Among them was the courage and determination of every Filipino who fought alongside the Americans.
Right after France surrender, the Soviet Union came very very close of joining the Axis powers. Only one man stopped that from happening, Adolf Hitler.

Actually that mistake will not be carried by Filipinos during that time because we are under the US. Colony..in short that shortcoming will be on their sides not us but in terms of that theory it should be to admit that we must learn from that mistake..

Regardless of who the enemy is today, the fact the Philippines is still in adequately prepared to defend the territory after decades from the last war highlights the failure of the succeeding generations of Filipinos to govern the country and state.
The sacrifices of our predecessors were in vain apparently.
air force compromising of ww1 relics and severely ill prepared thats what the philippine armed forces of ww2 is like now it's the same scenario as the one who's again extremely ill prepared scrambling on getting defenses ready when there's a huge force peaking by stupid senators would be the same stupid senators who wouldn't fund the defense department see what they have done

What matters now is the Chinese invasion of our exclusive economic zone and their clandestine entry into our country, conducting illegal operations from mining to illegal gambling and putting up companies heavily subsidized by the Chinese government like construction companies. All to the detriment of Filipino businesses.

It was bait and switch. Bait with the truth, then switch to the lies. The truth is that the Filipinos cheered and welcomed their honorable Asian liberators, glad to see the western occupiers of their country chased out. Unlike the bankster-controlled western forces, Japan treated the Filipinos like brothers, with respect, allowing and encouraging complete local autonomy.

They didn't fight the Pinoys, fought the American colonists and the puppets serving the colonizers. They they were there to liberate the Phillipine from western colonizers. That day, had Pinoys not fight the Japanese on the American behalf, a lot of death and suffering could have been avoided.
in the first place, they should not have invaded the Philippines....
Americans did not colonize the Philippines, no colonies were built, only military bases. Also, the American government offered the Philippines independence twice, in 1912 and in 1933. The Filipinos turned it down.
