    I have both the Evo SL and the SB2. When I first ran in the SB, it was an immediate “wow” In contrast, my initial run in the Evo SL didn’t give me that same feeling. I think the Adidas is a really solid shoe, but for me, the SB stands out.

    • @SagasuRunning

      Opposite for me and I loved the SB1… again, I’m glad there are two valid options for different types of runners for a single “do-it-all” shoe.
      Options are good. 👍🏻

      Completely agree and I also own both! That’s why I find many of these reviews BS as what works for some won’t work for others! Anyone watching these reviews to actually make a buying decision needs to get to a store and try shoes.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

      It is good to find a reviewer that your insist with, be it similar shoe tastes (or even totally opposite) as from there you can get a sense of what may or may not work. Ultimately though, it does take alot of trial and error.

      @@SagasuRunning Same for me. I didn't enjoy the Superblast 2 as much as the rest of the internet seems to. I was able to hit a 3:30/mi pace with it during a sprint though! The dimensions felt too large, it was too wide/stable, the upper was uncomfortable, the heel dug into my skin, and the slapping against the pavement was obnoxious. I wanted to like it but sometimes you have to walk away from popular opinion.
      I got the Evo SL and it felt exactly like when you get new shoes as a kid and feel lightning fast. I prefer the Prime X 2 Strung to the Superblast 2 as well.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Ya… I got similar slapping when trying to pick up past 10k pace in the SB2. Also agree on the feeling of excitement in the ESL… it’s quite special.

      @SagasuRunning Yeah, and the EVO SL is so much cheaper. SB2 is about $250 here in South Africa, and the EVO is $175 from Adidas.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      I mean, the ESL is $50 USD less that the SB2 at retail… so this makes sense, even with import and local currency issues.

    Your Asics Frankenshoe in the intro was 🔥. Moving to the outro, I 💯 agree that a shoe rotation is vital, especially for us oft injured runners who rotate heel drops, stack heights, and midsole materials to prevent repetitive motion injuries.

    The review we wanted but the review we didn't know we needed! Chris - your review format (at least in my view) has set a new standard for how we conceptualize shoe performance & comparisons - especially with the ride characteristics comparison and performance matrix. Well done!
    Also - would be curious to get your take on Evo SL vs ORG Superblast. We know ORG Superblast and Superblast 2 have slightly different midsoles & therefore different ride characteristics and different versatility ranges. Curious if the ORG superblast has a broader versatility similar to Evo SL (and whether you believe the Evo SL still has a superior compliance / resiliency profile).

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The SB1 did feel like it had more range for me, but I don't think it was the foams. I never liked FFTurbo, it was brutal on my legs too...and FFBlast+ is one of my most disliked foams. Oddly though, mixing them together in the SB1 seemed to cancel the bad of both.
      I think the SB1 "felt" like it did more, 2 years ago a when there wasn't really another shoe like the SB1. Now in 2025 there are a lot of other options that made the SB2, albeit a better shoe in all ways, less special.
      Thank you for the kind words on the content. 🤙🏻

    The superblast 1 was my primary training shoe for the Baltimore marathon last year. Was a joy to run in every time. Only downside was the outsole rubber grip. I got the superblast2 at launch and just hated it! I’m probably the only person that prefers the sb1 to sb2. Sb2 just felt firmer and more dead to me. Was able to get the Evo SL in December and only have a few miles on it. Excited to try it on long runs when the weather ever warms up here. 😭. Thank you for your content!

      The SB2 was a great update but the magic of the SB1 was lost. It wasn’t any engineering thing Asics did or changed… the magic was gone. Objectively the SB2 is a better shoe… but running shoes evolved and that are many other options that do some or most of what the SB2 does that weren’t around when it was only the SB1.

    Fantastic. Wanted the between 2 shoes (SB2 and ESL) and here we are. WOW!!! Will get EvoSL, when it is available in April. Use SB2 (same colorway as you have) when I feel that I need more support for my knees. Query: When it rains or when it is windy, which of the two uppers is better (that is, keeps you dry or warm). Thanks!!!!

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      No shoe will keep your feet totally warm an dry in the rain. Just accept you are going to get wet. Some will resist longer than others but your feet are still going to get wet. Nether one of these shoe uppers offer much against wet roads or rain. The SB2 might resist longer but the ESL will shed water and drain better. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    I had two Superblasts. Eventually I
    got kinda sick of it. I always told myself, “why is this not 40mm?” They could have made it much lighter. I don’t think there’s going to be a problem with it being 40mm because of how resilient the foam is. I’ve decided to skip Superblast 2 and wait for the 3. Instead I will get the Evo SL since it is made from Lightstrike Pro classic? It will be my “super trainer” for tempo training: short and long.

    I wore the evo sl for a track workout last year during a shoe demo. I wore the superblast 2 in the final 5 weeks of fall marathon training, and for the (3:30:00) race itself.
    I agree with almost everything you're saying, and some things you're spot on to how I feel about both shoes.
    From a durability standpoint I think I would chew through the evo sl with my running style, and the places I train.
    If you're talking "do it all", the peg is the standard all contenders should be compared to.
    I was surprised either of the shoes in this video were compared in that lens without mentioning the king.😂

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'm about as pro Pegasus as you will find on TH-cam (maybe only Tim Grose is at my level) and the Peg IS the standard I judge all dialy trainers on (which means it should be capable of ALL training/paces)...but I'd never race in the Peg. I would race in the ESL.
      I actually don't love the ESL on the track. The stability in the turns isn't there. It's almost like a VF3, but with no plate to structure the midsole for the foot it becomes super squirrelly. On the straights though.... 🚀

    I haven’t run in the Evo SL but the Superblast is such a great long run shoe. But according to this video the Evo SL will match the Superblast 2’s long run experience? I’ve stayed away from the Evo SL because most reviews made it sound like a speed trainer and not a great easy / long run shoe. I have too many race shoes / speed trainers. I guess I’ll pick it up when it drops wide anyways. I refuse to pay over retail to get it a month or so early.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      I've found the ESL to be much more enjoyable for "set and forget" threshold running. The longest run I've done in them is 18k, far shorter than marathon training, but I'm also not focused on any race distance over 5k right now... so I have no need for the volume. Multiple 16k+ runs in the ESL have all been outstanding though and I've have no hesitation taking to 25k+.

    I have both and love both, but agree that Evo SL has a wider range of applications and paces it can handle. The SB2 is the long run king. If I want to go on 15+ mile runs at a steady pace, then it is the one. I've done 15+ mile runs with the Evo SL but I mixed it up with easy warmup and cooldown with faster tempo/threshold segments in the middle, which it is perfect for. The feel and ride between the two are very different and quite enjoyable in their own ways. They can both be used as daily trainers depending on your weight and personal preferences. They both seem very durable and get better (softer and bouncier) with more mileage while remaining responsive. The Evo SL is more nimble while the SB2 is more stable. They are very complementary. I'll be packing these two (actually wear one of 'em) on my long business trips to Asia (4~5 weeks) and I know I'll be covered.

Similar to the Nike invincible, which is super spongy. I just found the geometry strange (dug into my outer midfoot because the angle).

      Technically speaking, yes. Practically speaking the FFBlast+ ECO on the SB2 only smooths out the FFTurbo+ and makes it usable in a training context. 85% of rhe midsole is their race super foam. I even reference this in the video…

    • @Pakperformance
      @Pakperformance 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @ thanks! Your version of the ideal ASICS super training shoe looks good. Just a bit more sleeker than the SB. I think the bottom of the ASICS SB and Novablast creates the responsivness for a non plated shoe more than any other brand. It’s like mini trampolines. The eco foam hardens or balances the ride like a carbon plate. Their carbon shoes have the good bouncy foam balanced by the plate.
      I would think the EvoSL is pretty close to the Takumi Sen. But I’m interested in trying them. I returned the Adios Pro 4. It was really squishy.

    I'm one of those heavier runners who finds the Superblast suitable for just about all my runs. But I agree with you that the subset of runners for whom the SB2 ticks all the boxes is a small one. I can understand how many runners find it perhaps too bulky for uptempo running, and a bit slappy at easier paces.
    But with that said, why do you think that the big brands have been so slow to follow the Superblast example of a thick(er)-stacked, plateless trainer with (essentially) a full racing foam midsole? Given the Superblast's success I'dve expected a lot of copycat shoes to be released in the next product cycle.
    I also agree with you that a Superblast/Metaspeed Frankenshoe if done right would be an awesome shoe. Unfortunately according to what I've heard it seems Asics is going a different direction with the rumored 'Sonicblast' plated trainer in the works.

      @SagasuRunning  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      I do think other brands are trying. Brooks released their answer, in a very Brooks way… and there will be a few more this year.
      At the end of the day though, outside of the running shoe world online the Superblast really isn’t that popular. Not when compared to something like a Ghost or a Clifton. So it’s a big I cents from a brand to make a sure few ultimately need (or use). That’s why you are seeing other brands put their own spin on their versions and making them less performance focused and more comfort focused, which will sell more (theoretically).

    The more I wear the SB V2 (and more fit I get) the more the shoe is becoming a ong run with marathon pace/power only injections shoe. In the summer/fall, I loved it for MP/HMP...but the last 3 times I wore the shoe running with HMP injections on 25km+ runs the shoe just felt like a boat. I was forced to run my long run today on treadmill due to freezing rain. I had gone outside to run with the SB V2 on before I pulled the plug and went home, and decided to just dry off the shoes and jump on the treadmill....and WOW did the boat feeling ever hit home. I almost stopped and took them off on the first 15min HMP section and put on my 1300km pair of Tempo Next%. 70mins later I was hoping the 2nd 15min interval would somehow feel better. Nope....boat. I generally don't run marathon pace/power until the last quarter of a marathon build. Before that, it's all HMP to push LT2. This really will limit the SB V2 now...or maybe I just turn it into an easy long run shoe to run it to death. Guess I keep burning through my Tempo Next% pairs till the next replacement comes along (Evo SL maybe, ZF V6, Tempo Next% V2?).

    I start running from last august, I always wear asics for daily shoes so eventually I go for gel nimbus 26 as my first real running shoes. And two weeks before my first 10k race I got SB2, and start running on that got a pretty good result. However I always feel some pain on my hip due to maybe high stack? Afterwards I got passionate on trainers and luckily get a cut price boston 12 and felt way better after break the foam, the lower drop and stacks made feel way better after long runs, and then get the EVO SL, its bouncy and smooth, although I doubt if its good for long run, but after a 20K run that worry vanished and just cant go back to SB2. I gave chance to SB2 for few more long runs and easy runs, but that's enough, and sold it even it was my first race shoes. Easy run, even easy long run, nimbus 26 is way better and long run I rotate between EVO SL, Boston12 and purchased a Puma Deviate Nitro 3, that is a great replacement to SB2, have the stiffness from the plate, but not too aggressive still bouncy and stable enough for slow long run and most importantly the 10mm heel drop is a positive fact for rotation. I think will probably choose EVO SL as my next half marathon race in coming May. Anyway that just my experience as I'm a normal to lightweight person.

I also have the Boston 12 which I prefer now over the SB2 for long runs, minimal upper and my feet stayed fresh, no hot spots, no soreness. Hi Chris , did you get the Superblast 2 up to 100 miles ? As some mention it can take 60 miles for it to find its sweet spot , you seemed so fond of the original , I get the 2 was heavier and people didn't like the rock catcher design underneath so to Asics credit they did try , I have found both versions of the sb very good and run my PB in the half marathon in the 2 but I think perfect conditions and a fast course and cool temps aided that.
    I'm very interested in the Evo SL but I think the SB is still better for heavier runners, I am 81kg at 5ft8 height, but it seems Adidas are doing a bit of a Nike Jordans , ALphafly type hype release and limiting numbers , so annoying.
    I'm in New Zealand and funnily enough its been very easy to get both Superblasts , you just have to go into running stores and put your name down for a pre order , I think the superblast 2 is available has far better supply than the 1 , Is it gonna be a case that the Evo SL is gonna be hard to find ?

      I’m sorry… a running shoe in 2025 , especially a super shoe (which the SB2 really is) shouldn’t require a 60mins break in. 10-20 to settle into your foot, fine.
      So no, I never got it that far. TBH, it’s just not a shoe I need right now. I like the SB2, it’s excellent at what it is designed for. However it’s just too big, stiff and bulky for anything outside of its design spec…. For me (I realize this isn’t an issues for some).
      I did get my MSEP to about 90mi, before I blew them up. So I have a good sense of FFTurbo+. I also didn’t find a massive break in for the MSEP, other than 10-20mile to mold to my foot and disappear.
      I do think the SB2 is a better option for a heavier runner… while I’m not the lightest runner, at around 160lbs’ish I’m not that heavy and prefer more nimble versatile shoes.
      Years of training in the Pegasus and Vaporfly have molded my preferences in how I want a running shoe to feel.
