Love these shoes and how they feel on different paces. When going slow they feel a lot softer than when running fast. Love it and it really amazed me. Now I don't want to run in other shoes after using them for 4 months.
I ran Chester in them, training hadn't gone well (1x16 mile long run) real life got in the way and I found out I had Covid after the race... 4hours on feet, but the shoes felt great. Changed into Nimbus 25s afterwards and they felt like a real step down in comfort... which tells me everything!
The circumstances you describe are exactly why I wanted to do this test. A great shoe for when things haven't or look unlikely to go according to your race-day plan.
Kieran, Thanks for posting this! I ran my first marathon in these in Oct and ran at 9:35/mi. pace and they were smooth and comfortable at cruising speed but just too stiff for my slow, long runs I completed in training at 10:20/ mi pace. At this pace, the bottoms of my forefeet and toe joints were so sore for a whole day after. Had to use my Invincibles for the long and slow runs.
First up congrats on the first marathon. Nicely done. Thanks for sharing that insight on the shoes, too. Always good to hear how other people experience the shoes.
Aiming to do my first marathon in a few months and aiming for 3:45-4:00 (my HM is 1:37). Was debating running in the superblast which I use for my training and I'm so pleased this test came out today
Doing my first too and just did a 1/2 in that same time area training. Will look to use the metaspeed sky plus for the full and target a 3:30. Have run a bit faster in the MSP for that same distance so hoping they'll work out for the full.
Great review Keiran, you pretty much confirmed what I suspected, they're a bit fast for me at this point as I'm more of a 9 minute to 8:30 pace runner. Maybe next year 😃.
I'm waiting for your novablast 5 review. If they've made it softer and spoilt it as other reviews are saying, then the superblast 2 will become even more sought after.
Good push, I have a size us11.5 on one foot and us11 on the other. Can't decide what one to keep. Always go half size up as a rule, how er the 11.5 looks huge in these. Any suggestions
Solid review, while they would not currently fit in my rotation, if I wanted a shoe just to have fun then they would be one of the model to fit the bill , shame Asics do not support the local running shoe shops.
Just got about 40km on mine and they still feel very rigid and slappy. I figured maybe the cold temperatures were making the foam hard, but after reading a few comments like this one, I’m hoping that after more kms they’ll soften up then. Was a bit surprised as so many youtubers are raving about them so I thought they would run like a dream from kay 1. Not yet…
@@livewire1957239 same for me at first. I also thought of selling my Sb2 because Sb1 felt better. But after 100~130km my Sb2 soften up and I never wanted to take it off again.
I got the white colorway and to be totally honest after like 30km I'm not really sure if I like them or not. I feel like the midsole is super firm and my shins are hurting badly because of it. I dont know if I have to brake them in more but I never had that problem before. I'm honestly thinking about selling them 😢
That's a shame but a good example of that fact not every shoe suits every runner. Some people (in the comments here in fact) have said they soften after 100 miles but if they're not working for you, there are probably lots of people who'd pay a good price. So you might be able to trade in and get something that works better for you.
Kieran, how many miles did you have in the shoe? They seem to take a considerable time to break in. I have about 30 miles in my pair and they still seem to be softening. I've seen people say it can take as much as 100 miles to fully settle.
Ooh, I think if you're not going to be shooting for a silver (where you may get away with a more aggressive carbon shoe), these could be a great shoe for it.
I find some of the bigger cushioned shoes do that and it's not a sensation I like, even on my easy runs, but didn't get that too badly with the Superblast 2. Maybe at me slowest paces there was some of that.
@@TheRunTesters Agree. Especially at easy pace! So they end up working against the purpose of the run. I have the Superblast 1 and I only use it for up tempo runs for that exact reason. It's okay for that, but I am not a big fan of the shoe like most people are. But I bought it and I will get the most out of it 🙂.
I ordered these shoes as they were raved about so much and as I do enjoy Asics in general. But I really don't enjoy these shoes. They destroy my legs as they are too firm for me, and the upper is not very comfortable. Plus they are very slappy, people certainly hear you coming....
I've got them and don't like them. The midsole is so firm, and cause aches in my shins. Don't know how anyone can call them soft. Probably a 'me' problem though. Does feel like they're way overhyped though.
I have had mine for 400+ miles. I did initially have some shin soreness but they broke in-it took some time though (over 50+ miles). Also was able to pick up in black on the US site.
@RJ-hi5pw As of today, any race for elite or age group athletes has to comply with the World Athletic list of race-legal shoes. You can run in any shoes just if you are running with friends or in an unofficial "race".
Kieran just banging out marathons for fun as usual!
I like being on my own 😂😂😂

You're not the only one who has said that to me.
Kieran’s reviews (and the run testers in general) really are the benchmark
Why thanks Wayne. Appreciate the kind words.

I did a marathon in them after not training n was really surprised how good I did and would credit the shoes for being forgiving
I definitely find them forgiving.
Keiran is GOATed!!! Your marathon tests are so fun to watch! And just makes me wanna go for a run 🙏💪
Glad you enjoy them. I love having an excuse to get out and bust around for a few hours.
Aiming to do my first marathon in a few months and aiming for 3:45-4:00 (my HM is 1:37). Was debating running in the superblast which I use for my training and I'm so pleased this test came out today
Honestly, I think for first marathon, these would be a great option.

2nd run in mine I took them out for a long run to test them out, I felt great so i just kept going, and then somehow ended up doing a marathon PB 😀
Congrats Jason.
A very high bar has been set for the Superblast 3. And hopefully ASICS is able to get production numbers way up to meet the demand.
Skip the Superblast 3 and just make more of the Superblast 2 available.
I heard superblast 3 will be a combination of novablast 5 and superblast 2 with plate on it
@@Joseph-e1g where did you hear that? Blast Max makes sense but I cant see a plate in the Superblast.

How does Kieran make it look so easy, I need him as my coach. I have ran Berlin and New York in the Superblast 2 and love them. My go to trainer now.
😂😂😂 Coaching applications open...
@@TheRunTesters Tell me where to sign up Kieran 🤣

We're waiting for it too!!
This is good to hear as I bought a pair for training for Manchester marathon in April, not sure if I'll use them for the actual race yet.
I give up from carbon plated shoes, I did a few ~4 hours marathons, and also my PB 3:30 in superblast :D
Wore these for first 50k. My feet felt great!
Definite road ultra potential.
I did my 1st marathon in the sb 1 and liked them at my 12 min mile pace but the bottom was slippery but the sb2 feels more firm
Didn't get a chance to run in the first-gen Superblast but the grip has been switched out.
Can’t find these anywhere though 😢
That's maybe the biggest problem with them!

Once you try ASICS running shoes you will never like any other running shoes. ASICS best of the best 👑❤
Do you think the SB is better choice than the Sacouny pro 4 For 3:30 up to 4h marathon?
Which is best for a marathon in pace 5:00-5:30 superblast or endorphin speed 4?
Would anyone recommend these for an ultra? No trails but out of everything in my collection I think these may be best
So it sound like an option for a casual half👍🏾
Yeah could do that job nicely.
They look really beautiful, are they okay for normals walks and workouts???
It took me 100~130km ro break them in. Now it feels like clouds and way better than SB1. Until then it was a rock
A few people have said they've found it softer after around 100 miles.
@TheRunTesters might be a good sign for durability. Some people predicts it will run 800miles before it gives up.

Would you say it's a good option for a 57 mile flat ultra marathon on canal paths?
Where has these in stock :-(
That seems to be the biggest question mark about these. Hard to get hold of.

Great sound - what mic?
On the run? Think most of it was shot on my iPhone 15 Pro. Some on the Insta360 Go 3.

Before this test I probably had around 20 miles in them.
@TheRunTesters Thanks for responding so promptly!
Would these be suitable for a sub 3 training block? Or are there better on the market for that? Thanks
I think so. You might want something a bit more agile for the fastest interval sessions but this shoe can certainly handle a lot of the other runs.
Unrelated, sobering thought: It's SUNNY in London on your run so you can basically pinpoint which day in the last month you did this run on 😂
Very true
How is ot compared to a plated super trainer like the SC V3 which you likd? Doe's the plate helps?
Hold that thought... that vid is due up really soon!
Vid just gone up!

As a Comrades Shoe?
Ooh, I think if you're not going to be shooting for a silver (where you may get away with a more aggressive carbon shoe), these could be a great shoe for it.
For me the Superblast zaps my power. Feel like running on a madras with poor springs. So if anyone want to buy a slightly used pair.

👍 Think one influencer's team might be looking for work right now 😂
I think sb2 are just a myth
I can't even get hold of these shoes, yet many running you tubers keep featuring them. Personally frustrating re Asics.
Me too. ASICS doing it on purpose to keep the demand and the price high
It seems an odd thing to do. Sell the shoes before the competition bring out rivals that offer the same.
