I'm doing a lot of different things on my cars thanks to your videos. Yesterday I finished my first door window scrapers, felt channels, and wing window seals on the 68. I made a few mistakes and your reminders to go slow and take your time really helped. In the end nothing was bent or torn. I was surprised how satisfied I was afterwards. It really makes working on your car more enjoyable when you take the time to get a good result. As far as paint goes I've started with the wheels and hubs. I figured those aren't too difficult to mess up.
I am so glad it all worked out for you! And I’m glad the videos are helpful, it makes it so worth doing. Sometimes I probably talk too much, or repeat a lot in videos. But I try to be helpful so people catch on. And of course I don’t know everything, but I try to show what little I do know. Thank you so much for being here. I truly appreciate it.
@SladesVWBeetle not all of us have the knack for making a video that's entertaining and informative. I like learning or at least understand what I'm watching. You're relatable and that is a big part of giving a lot of us confidence that we can do it too. Edit - I mean work on our car not make a video 🙃
Thanks Slade awesome video!! I'm A big believer in the bondo hair I reconstruct ed the nose on my trunk lid turned out ok like you I'm not a body man have a great day. Hi Heather!!waiting for your spring video's to start.
Exactly my friend! The Bondo hair works really nice. I used it on the super beetle. I like doing the rage if it is something mild. Sounds pretty nice. But geez, it’s really expensive. Thank you for always being here my friend.
I think the guy I bought my bug from owned stock in the Bondo company. There was Bondo in spots where there wasn't even any damage or dents. Took me a week to get to metal so I could weld on patches!!!
Oh, that doesn’t surprise me, my friend, I have run into that before. I actually don’t like using any kind of body putty when possible. But sometimes I have no choice. But some people go bananas with it.
Good bunch of tips🙌 my grandpa was a body man and he always used a broken window probably out of a door or something to mix his bondo after that product came out, before that he used lead
And that is a really nice idea! Glass, or plexiglass. I just happen to buy those off of Amazon. But, grandpa definitely was a smart man. That was a really good idea.
Appreciate the video, your tips/tricks are always helpful and keep me from doing a bone head mistake! Looking forward to the engine tin and body painting videos, Thanks Slade!
Thanks, my friend! I surely don’t know everything, but I try to show little things I know. Trust me, I do strange things, but when I do, I refuse to remove them out of the video lol.
This was VERY helpful!! I learn so much from your channel. In fact, I've been able to do most of all the stuff I've done so far on my project because of your channel! Thanks Slade!
I was watching this as I was filling my ‘70 door side mirror hole (going to earlier door pin mirrors) with bondo and screens. I was literally applying the bondo when you said “try not to do that if you can help it!” 😂 I said “oops” out loud. Great videos. I bought my 70 almost a year ago and have never worked on cars much aside from routine work. Your videos have been so awesome! I’ve rebuilt my engine with your advice and tons of other work!
Thank you my friend, and thank you so much for the kind comment. Oh, trust me, I have done it, I have the screen on hand in my cabinet. But if I encourage people to do it, you know what will happen lol do what you must my friend. There’s nothing wrong with using it.
Thanks my brother! I don’t know everything that’s for sure. I want to try the LVLP spraygun like the underground paint king. I don’t know if you ever saw him. He is really good.
Awesome video. Me and the wife have been going back and forth on if we should use the cans or invest in a actual paint gun on our 73. This might help me convince her the cans will work.
Nice video. I have been thinking about using a rattle can to touch up some things for Harley our other vw bus Harley 1973 Westy we just purchased last weekend. Thanks brother very good tips I will consider when trying with mine.😊
Great tips! I plan to rattle can and 2K clear my 74 standard later this spring. How should I go about painting over the existing paint? It's the original paint, not flaking at all, just faded. I was hoping to just scuff and shoot. But the original paint is green and I plan on going white. Should I do filler and then scuff and prime and then rattle can and 2K? Thanks, Slade!
Hey my friend! I did that with my super beetle. It was obviously red, the car that was first time around on here on the channel. I did do red over top of it. But honestly, it wouldn’t have mattered. Because I scuffed it down, not too bare metal! And then I went ahead and primed it. So it was one solid color of light gray primer. And then, of course painted rust oleum. I would simply scuff it down really well. And then do your primer, and if not just do a couple extra layers of white until you achieve what you’re after. And then the 2K clear! Honestly, I would pop a fender off and practice on that first. I hope that’s helpful.
Usually around 10 minutes. Weather pending.. It’s best to have something sprayed at the same time like the masking tape or something where you can touch it to make sure it’s still tacky. I hope that read well. I’m going to be doing my door this coming week. But I’m not going to clearcoat it for a few weeks for certain reason so I’ll end up sanding it with 1000 wet, since it will be dry. Then clear… Thank you for the kind compliment.
I have sprayed that before, and I have had a lot of luck with it! I never thought to do a video with it. I actually have someone hand. I like using the glossifier over top of it.
Oddly enough, I was just thinking about that. The rust came out of the tank, but there is still varnish in air. I was going to do a short video on soaking acetone to see if it would work.

Looking forward to the vid where the paint and clear go on the car
Good vid 👍👍👍
That will be coming up before you know it, my friend! I hope you have been doing well.
Oh my at all the paint cans I have tossed because of the clogged tips aarrgghh!!!! Thanks for the acetone tip …. Great video as always Slade 👍
Thank you my friend I truly appreciate that! Remember, only 25 seconds or less with the acetone or it will melt the plastic. But it does truly work.
Thanks Slade, great lesson for sure
Thank you, sir! I truly appreciate the kind comment.
This is a needed video for me thank you
Excellent! I hope it is helpful. I’ll be doing some painting work. Coming up very shortly.

Thanks Slade. Great information. 🤙
Thank you, I really appreciate that!
This guy is so damn cool. I’ll be happy if I’m even half the man he is.

I have a dune bug but I’m not brave enough to do it myself. I may go the plasti dip route

When are you going to finish the gas tank video I need to do mine

Check out the rustoleum 5 in 1 can.
Thanks my friend! I’m actually going to punch that into Google momentarily. I never heard of it
