finding out I have Stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma at 21

  • It’s been a month now. A month consisting of 3 surgeries, 3 infusions, with 3 new scars that will be with me forever. It’s been a month of tests, tears, and trying to understand the full story of what was going on.
On June 24, 2020, I got the call explaining that they believed to have found lymphoma; a cancer in my lymph node system. Today, one month later, I was officially diagnosed with Stage 4 Nodular Sclerosis Lymphoma. To say this past month has been a journey is an understatement. But today I’ve found light in knowing what’s truly going on so that we can start planning my treatment.
I am fearful for the unknowns ahead, but I know deep in my heart that I am strong and that I can get through this. I have an amazing medical team, family, and friends who have been at my side since day 1.
I can 100% say this is not what I was expecting right now, in life, at 21. Cancer was a word that was distant, unfamiliar. It was in movies, in stories, connected to people that I care about. But this time, it’s connected to me. It’s in this body I live and breath in everyday. It’s new and scary and unfamiliar, but it’s real and I’m doing my best to process it all.
These next few months are going to be a lot for this lil body of mine! I appreciate any good thoughts or prayers so so much right now.
    Thanks for watching.
    Love, Kam.

I believe I had this for about a day or 2. They called me back and told me they mixed up the files and that is when I cried for the other person... I was diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin's lymphoma a week after my 27th birthday. It took up 85% of my right lung. I had to do 2.5 years of chemo treatments but it turns out I was in the only 3% of people that chemo doesn't work and had to get a stem cell transplant so if I can make it you can make it. Today is my 36th birthday so best of luck to you and your family.

Understand that it’s natural to feel bad for the ones that love you and guilty or whatever it’s weird, but remember it is not your fault, you didn’t ask for this and they love you because you’re awesome x

I am 21 and woke up with huge lymph nodes the other day, blood check showed a blast of immature white blood cells, lymph nodes are still swollen but not as bed. Doctor was still worried and told me they want me checked for lymphoma immediately. Neck does hurt and sleep isn’t easy. Still waiting for my second blood test and waiting for my petscan so im just waiting. Still don’t know the severity of my situation but im scared. Tried to work out today and i was exhausted quick unfortunately. Hopefully just and infection. I know i’ll be fine, i just hope i don’t become a burden to my family if the worst comes to worst.

I had lymphoma; I have been in remission since May 2017. Between January 2017 and May 2017, I had 6 rounds of R-Chop. It was hard because I have three children. I will be praying.

Hi...Please don't worry. I'm also in the same boat. We are too young and the strongest opponents for this cancer. Stay strong girl. It does miracles. You are gonna be alright in just 6 months. ABVD is not that strong to make you physically upset
    God bless 😉

I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma at 30 years old. I feel your pain and I know how awful that felt. But 17 years later, I'm still here, and you can be too! Stay positive and envision yourself already through on the other side. It helps, for sure. Treatments make it soooo possible these days.

This video is really amazing, and I think it’s incredible of you to document this experience. We don’t know each other super well but we went to PG brand camp together and you told me all about UW and helped me decide on it. You are so strong and I look up to you a lot, I wish you all the best and hope you have a smooth and speedy recovery. Sending love ❤️

Hello, I am in remission from Classic Hodgkin Lymphoma, so I understand how you are feeling. Please don't panic, HL is very treatable whatever stage it's at. The treatment for Stage 1 is the same treatment as for Stage 4 . I remember feeling numb too when they told me my diagnosis, but they were very reassuring. I had 6 months of ABVD chemotherapy and it shrunk the cancer almost immediately. I remember the PET scans and waiting for the results, it was really nerve wracking but trust me, as soon as you hear that word remission you will celebrate so hard :) xxx

Hi Kim, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 B HD in 1994 and the age of 23. Needless to say Im still around at 51 and you will be too! Keep your spirits up! after you are pronounced in remission you will still have to have scans periodically for a few years. HD is the most curable cancer and you are now part of our little family!

Hi Kam! Stay strong, it's not unbeatable! My cousin had that same cancer and stage, more than a decade ago. She is now cancer free! Wasn't easy but it wasn't too hard, either! She now looks, better than ever, no one can tell that she was ill. Also, my dad's friend lived with and after it, for almost 40 years! He was over 80 years old when he died! So, you will be just fine, don't worry! I just wanted you to know this! 😊😘💖
