My first Golden was a non-retriever. He worked on the basis of "you threw it you get it" My current Golden does retrieve. You also should bear in mind Goldens love mud.

My Golden/lab mix LOVES mud and water. She also enjoys laying out in the sun.
Mande Peer My golden/lab mix only gets smelly if I don't keep up with her hygiene. With any animal if you don't bathe them regularly they will develop an odor.

My Golden does have a soft bite,sometimes.If she has stolen some food it’s like trying to get a wolf out of a trap,but if your hand ends up in her mouth,she will go out of her way not to harm it. But I do agree with the easy to train part,if your getting a golden,just know they are VERY food motivates

I think you are taking the "eager to please" and "capable of working tirelessly" statements a little too literally.
That said, this info is useful for potential adopters who may be so eager for a dog that they interpret everything with excessive optimism.
I have a Golden Retriever/Labrador mix named Daisy and she is so sweet, calm loving and a bit of a goofer lol I love her so much.
She is extremely social and has an almost GPS like system for finding any sources of water/mud to play in lol

Calm?? My husband and I have been together 8 years and he JUST talked me into a golden because every single one I met growing up was insane! Only reason I'm sold on it now is our border collie mix needs a companion that can keep up with her!
I have 5 hunting dogs and 3 of them are Golden Retrievers. They're super easy to train, they're fiercely loyal, are good with my kids, and work well with other breeds. My other two dogs are dachshunds which are great for squirrel and raccoon hunting.
The main thing is, they want to be part of your family. If you make them so, you'll be well-rewarded.
It is heartening to hear someone who has put owner's responsibilities above a dog's "duties".

Golden retrievers ‘retrieve’ they find , naturally, something to bring you... in our case it’s shoes/boots/trainers. They want to impress you! You shouldn’t suppress or out-train this!
Your advice could be applied to any number of dog species... you’re tips are very vague.

Hi there !!! That’s a great informative video . I stay in a apartment which is relatively big with 3 bedroom. Do you recommend to have a Golden Retriever as a pet . I stay in Dubai and the climate is hot 6 months out of 12 . Need your honest advice . Good luck n stay safe . Cheers

I had a Golden Retriever who hadn’t read the manual. No matter how I tried he hated swimming, could never get the hang of retrieving, was I’m afraid, not very bright and more of a plodder than a runner. What he did have was a gentle soul and a big heart. Miss you Rolo

We were together for 15 years. It is impossible to imagine a more loving and devoted companion. But for those who adopt one with the intention of using the dog for water retrieving, they are not suited to cold water. In fact great care is needed to keep them warm and dry. For cold water, the Chesapeake Bay Retriever is much safer and more easily cared for in the duck blind.
I just lost my Goldie may 5-11-19 . They are the most lovable dogs I have ever owned. He was 15. His hips got bad real bad and he had a couple of Strokes we had to put him down.

I feel guilty for not knowing their behavior thoroughly when I got mine. I didnt know they loved mud and water. When he was a pup, we were shocked he kept jumping on our pool cuz he just wants and keeps digging mud. So we refrained him from doing it. Sad... but now we're pretty open to him ever since we knew about golden retrievers

I really need an advice. I've always desired a Golden retriever but my house isn't big. I live in an apartment, but I honestly think my family can have it even though a golden isn't a small breed. I love my British cream, but I’ve never met a more jealous dog in my life. And that first myth is kind of true. While no dog is built to please us, my retriever hasn’t been trained extensively, and still seems to do anything he can to make us laugh or make us proud of him. So yes, goldens are in fact more inclined to please us more than other dogs
My golden would stay in the cold in the snow in extreme temperatures he loves it.
My golden retriever hates taking a bath. But he likes drinking a lot of water... Like in one sitting, he can drink half a galon of water. Idk why. His water is always refilled and he doesnt seem to get a full stomach. We also feed him with the right amount of food (1 big cup of dog food, so its like 2 and a half cup) We feed him once in the morning and evening, plus a lot of treats during the day when we train him.
They are bred to be duck dodging in England....so yes the cold water won’t hurt them if they are retrieving ducks. I’ve had 3 going on 4 goldens as my duck dogs in Ohio in my life. They could give two shits about the cold water. You just have to be smart about it. Best dogs ever!
Our golden has left eating food which it was eating with craze, before n after its periods started. What to do? We r upset. Please. Give a solution..

How do they do in very hot weather?
Sadly, because of their cuteness as puppies they are often given as presents, but little thought has gone into taking note that a goldie is a big dog when fully grow, and fully grown with a instinct to play swin and generally have fun, so that puppy will grow into a loving friend that needs company and attention, this includes grooming on a very regular basis.
They generally have good apitites so do need feeding usually twice a day, the same goes for exercise the training part is usually done with this in mind, leaving them on their own usually turns to bordom and then looking for something to ocupy themselves which can be destructive, so they are not a dog to be shut in a house with no company.
Unless you are firstly aware and secondly prepared to take on this job, DONT GET ONE because these dogs are a family member and should be treated as such and considered as such, from it you wil have one of the most loving dogs you will ever set eyes on.

Yes they do, a fine haze of fur will fill every nook n cranny of your house. Regular brushing with a brush set which suits the under and over coat will help minimise it....but..wow....

just take em out for a swim 1 time a week.. and brush their fur 1 time.. gets rid of most of the loose fur..
