My Mom used to breed goldens when I was a kid. I remember when I was 10 years old, a litter of puppies were born and one pup stood out from the others. A hyperactive fur-ball with distinctive white markings on his chest and front paw. I begged and pleaded with my Mom to let me keep and raise him.. Eventually she buckled and said yes, but only I if took full responsibility for him. My boy and I grew up together, I learned how to be responsible through looking after him. I trained him, worked to pay for all his requirements like food, toys, vaccinations, medical bills. Some of the best times I've had in my life, I shared with him. One late September evening after 19 amazing years together, my boy laid on my lap for the very last time, passing away later into the night. I can confirm that every fact mentioned in this video is true, at least from my experience. Golden retrievers are an exceptional breed with great versatility. If you're lucky enough to be loved by a golden retriever, you're lucky enough.

He really was 'Golden', he gave me love and understanding then I had clinic depression caused by workplace bullying and he stayed with my Dad when he was dying of cancer. He didn't growl or bark when the nurses came to treat him but simply lay by his side and refused to move. His final act of love was pass away under his own steam, to save us the guilt of taking him to the vet. Farewell, old friend, I hope we meet again some day.

I've had Golden's for 20-plus years. Lost our last golden in January at the age of 15. You could leave him in the kitchen with a t-bone steak on the table and he wouldn't touch it.Little kids could crawl on him and put their face in his dog bowl while he was eating and it wouldn't bother him. Now I have three great Pyrenees. So different. But love them every bit as much. I asked my wife who put the pork away. Our great Pyrenees put six away while we were in the room and not paying attention. My wife caught are great Pyrenees tiptoeing around the top of the kitchen table cleaning all the plates off and not knocking a single glass over. Goldens are the best, great Pyrenees are the best, Dobermans are the best, just love your dog and you will have the best.

When I look back over my life thus far I remember each of them...their constant love and devotion, the joy they bring each day and their desire to HAVE FUN. You will treasure each moment, each passing year and mourn their departure...as they truly are and will be your best friend. I had a Golden girl for 7 1/2 years. Went before her time due to bloat. That can happen with goldens. She was a great dog. My wife and daughter were protected by her, and she was always happy to be with us. I really miss that big red furball. And everything said in the video is correct.
@M.E.B Edits, we got her from a want ad listing for puppies. The people we got her from were not breeders, but both parents were AKC registered though. I didn't register my dog because I couldn't show or breed her, she had hip dysplasia on one side. It didn't matter though, she was a great dog. One time while I was on a business trip my daughter got sick (Croup & Stridor) at night and she came in and woke up my wife. My wife took our daughter to the ER. Our dog saved my daughters life. Again, I miss that big red furball very much.
We had a Golden Retriever for 11 years. Molly was the best and sweet dog ever. In July 2019 she a cancer tumor in one of her back legs and was treated and told they got it all . Just this July on 17 2020 we were told she had cancer again in the lungs she died on July 21st 2020. We found out that cancer is seen in Golden's about 60% percent. Our hearts are broken
My golden is literally my best friend. I have had him fir 11 years and now he is dealing with arthritis. Its really sad to see him struggling at times but he is an amazing dog and my buddie!!!
My 15 year old golden also has arthritis. My vet has him on carprofen, a 75 mg pill he gets in the morning and evening, and he's doing so much better. It's $0.66 per day (USD) through an online retailer and worth every penny.
I had a Golden who looked after herself while I went to work. I found she was perfectly happy in my good sized fenced yard. I walked her for an hour each morning and she settled right down. Then we had a shorter walk or a game after I got home. Then dinner. They love to eat. Never had a major problem with my dog. Although she would take off to a creek or pond an jump in if she got off the leash. Even in Winter. Hopeless watchdogs, too friendly. My dog loved the beach would go in the surf even. I had Casey for 16 wonderful years. Now I have a Border Collie that needs even more exercise in fact she is quite a handful to keep up with. Smart dog . Fast runners. Loves a ride in the car.They are best on a farm. A friend gave me the Border collie puppy from her litter. Get pet health insurance because they aren't as resilient as a Golden.They are smart and will learn anything with careful training.Also too friendly to be a guard dog.
We hav jus entered our first Golden in our family. Hes 8wks old. We hav an American Bulldog who took hm under his wing and is showing him the ropes. He's the best teacher and they loved each other right off the bat. Our golden is so cute and funny and affection. He's also chewing EVERYTHING right now with his little puppy teeth!!! 🤣 I luv watching these videos and learning all these tips I will need for the future.

Watching this with my golden boy on my lap. (he still thinks he’s a lap dog) He’s our first family dog, and I cannot begin to express the joy he’s brought to our family. He’s amazing with our children, he’s so loving and gentle, but he definitely does hate to be alone. Thankfully, I get to spend most days at home with him. He loves to find, carry, and has even been known to stash socks all over the house! I couldn’t find anyone’s socks for the longest time.. I just started finding piles of socks hidden in the couch, in the back of his kennel.. and under his dog bed! He’s so funny; I can’t help but laugh! He has a huge personality, and he’s still a pup! (8-months-old) it’s obvious why this majestic breed is a family favorite. I couldn’t imagine doing life without him by our side. I’m someone who has never wanted a dog of their own, and never loved a dog. A golden retriever changed those feelings almost immediately! Remy, we love you, sweet boy. We rescued you, but you captured our hearts. ❤️🐶

My boy is still very timid, like he gets scared if someone walks up to him too fast; or if we get too loud playing; or rough-housing. He will tuck away and hide. It makes me wonder what he’s been through before we found him. He’s almost 2 now, and still show’s obvious signs of abuse. It’s so sad. One time, he was chewing a shoe, and out of frustration I raised my hand to give him a little spat, and he cried out. I didn’t even actually do it! It ruined me. I don’t even know what I was thinking. There is a no punishment policy with a zero tolerance. I think if someone hurt him, or scared him again; I would lose it! And obviously, positive reinforcement is far more effective with any dog. He has no idea why he’s being punished! I redirect; and give lots of praise for the good things he does, and redirect and praise when he’s doing something he shouldn’t be. Pretty easy! He’s my baby. I’m so happy you get to experience the same love and joy!

Watching this video with my golden baby laying beside me❤ Last November my girlfriends little sister passed away, she’s never experienced a loved ones death before until that point & they were very close. Seeing her become defeated by grief & swallowed by depression, my heart would ache for her. There was very little I could do & nothing I could say to help or to relieve her emotional suffering. I suggested we get her dream dog, a golden retriever. Her face lit up, she instantly began her search for the perfect pup. We searched for a week, then started to have doubts after no one got back to us. We decided that if we got a call back, then it’s meant to be. The phone rang & we drove 3hrs to meet the whole litter to assure a good match, and as soon as we walked in the puppies rushed to greet us. It’s almost like the dog we wanted knew we were coming for him. He patiently waited for his siblings to subside, he walked up to us, sat in front of us, & then rested his paw on my girlfriends leg. A true perfect match, he chose us too. & He was on clearance! We decided on the name Steve (my girlfriend thinks it’s so funny when animals have people names). And Steve is the best dog I’ve ever had. He brought back my girlfriends smile, he’s gotten us through our darkest moments, he’s a little stupid & dopey, but it suits him. He is the sweetest, biggest baby that’s scared of everything. He’s a dog, but he’s our son. I would take a bullet for him. I know I shouldn’t have a favorite animal, but he’s definitely my favorite. I don’t think I’ll ever have another pup like him again. I don’t think my girlfriend would have made so much progress had we not found him. So thank you Steve, we needed/need you❤
Our golden was such a good girl. You should leave her in a bedroom with a steaming roasted chicken from the grocery store, and she would NOT touch it. The loyalty was intense. Got along with everyone and other pets no problem. Even new cats. She was only half golden. Other half was labrador. If my sister was away at work, she would just plop at the front door all day. Can confirm this is not a breed to leave alone.
Hello just want to tell you a little bit of Vine golden his name was baby boy he lived for 17 years he was my service dog but my best friend I had a problem where I passed out periodically not for very long and no one taught him he learned he would let me know before it happened he was such a great young man-LOVE. Avocados I love going to my father's house I love my father's vegetable garden he loved all are fruit trees he would let us know when the apples are ready we'd walk three or three times a day long distances until I was able to walk he helped me learn to read walk again I can't tell you enough how much I miss him they are great and fantastic dogs baby along with kind families they would have patience and love for them no matter what take care of the one you have
We had a golden retriever, he was so big that I would sit on him when I was 3. He was so peaceful, cats would jump around him or even sit on him while he was lying on grass. He was such a lazy guy, loved to bathe, we had a small pool in which he would sit literally whole day.
My family have a 10 month old golden retriever. She chews on everything and loves bringing sticks inside the house. She makes a lot of mess but I love her.

Super with kids. Kids love them and they will behave if your children take them walking . They are very tolerant of young children.They love to eat but are fine with a small breakfast of kibble maybe some cooked oatmeal. Then a more substantial dinner. Meat , kibble mix with some leftover cooked veggies. NO onion of course .Mine had nice neat eating manners. They need to be trained not to take things out off the kitchen , or at a picnic, like most dogs.

I really want a golden but I work a full time job. I got my first golden when I was 12 and I trained him to go off leash in a field and on our lawn in just 3 weeks at the age of 15 weeks. I work a full time job and I am going to give him 1 hour of field exercise in the morning and 1-2 hours when I come home. I will also be paying a neighbourhood kid to walk my dog around the block and play with him in my backyard for a bit. Do you think my dog will be ok.

Dogs bark for different reasons. My sister's last golden, Toby, used to bound up to the fence and and bark loudly two or three times with his tail wagging wildly. He was just excited to meet and when you came through the gate he couldn't make up his mind if he wanted to get patted or run around wildly. They're a gentle and apparently the breed that's least likely to bite you. They can be exuberant and yes, they're fairly big. If they want to play and bump into you, you'll know it.

Sadly the breed are prone to tumours of various kinds. Three out of four in our family were lost this way.

Last November my girlfriends little sister passed away, she’s never experienced a loved ones death before until that point & they were very close. Seeing her become defeated by grief & swallowed by depression, my heart would ache for her. There was very little I could do & nothing I could say to help or to relieve her emotional suffering. I suggested we get her dream dog, a golden retriever. Her face lit up, she instantly began her search for the perfect pup. We searched for a week, then started to have doubts after no one got back to us. We decided that if we got a call back, then it’s meant to be.
The phone rang & we drove 3hrs to meet the whole litter to assure a good match, and as soon as we walked in the puppies rushed to greet us. It’s almost like the dog we wanted knew we were coming for him. He patiently waited for his siblings to subside, he walked up to us, sat in front of us, & then rested his paw on my girlfriends leg. A true perfect match, he chose us too. & He was on clearance! We decided on the name Steve (my girlfriend thinks it’s so funny when animals have people names). And Steve is the best dog I’ve ever had. He brought back my girlfriends smile, he’s gotten us through our darkest moments, he’s a little stupid & dopey, but it suits him. He is the sweetest, biggest baby that’s scared of everything. He’s a dog, but he’s our son. I would take a bullet for him. I know I shouldn’t have a favorite animal, but he’s definitely my favorite. I don’t think I’ll ever have another pup like him again. I don’t think my girlfriend would have made so much progress had we not found him. So thank you Steve, we needed/need you❤
Our golden was such a good girl. You should leave her in a bedroom with a steaming roasted chicken from the grocery store, and she would NOT touch it. The loyalty was intense. Got along with everyone and other pets no problem. Even new cats. She was only half golden. Other half was labrador. If my sister was away at work, she would just plop at the front door all day. Can confirm this is not a breed to leave alone.

Hello just want to tell you a little bit of Vine golden his name was baby boy he lived for 17 years he was my service dog but my best friend I had a problem where I passed out periodically not for very long and no one taught him he learned he would let me know before it happened he was such a great young man-LOVE. Avocados I love going to my father's house I love my father's vegetable garden he loved all are fruit trees he would let us know when the apples are ready we'd walk three or three times a day long distances until I was able to walk he helped me learn to read walk again I can't tell you enough how much I miss him they are great and fantastic dogs baby along with kind families they would have patience and love for them no matter what take care of the one you have
These dogs have such a friendly, friendly demeanor

We had a golden retriever, he was so big that I would sit on him when I was 3. He was so peaceful, cats would jump around him or even sit on him while he was lying on grass. He was such a lazy guy, loved to bathe, we had a small pool in which he would sit literally whole day.

Super with kids. Kids love them and they will behave if your children take them walking . They are very tolerant of young children.They love to eat but are fine with a small breakfast of kibble maybe some cooked oatmeal. Then a more substantial dinner. Meat , kibble mix with some leftover cooked veggies. NO onion of course .Mine had nice neat eating manners.
They need to be trained not to take things out off the kitchen , or at a picnic, like most dogs.
My 10 month old golden is the best thing that happened to our family. He's very protective of my daughter.
If you can ignore their obsession with food and their hair all over the place, golden Retrievers are the best ❤️
Regarding separation anxiety if left alone for long periods time... for my golden 'long periods of time' was about 10 minutes. :-)

I really want a golden but I work a full time job. I got my first golden when I was 12 and I trained him to go off leash in a field and on our lawn in just 3 weeks at the age of 15 weeks. I work a full time job and I am going to give him 1 hour of field exercise in the morning and 1-2 hours when I come home. I will also be paying a neighbourhood kid to walk my dog around the block and play with him in my backyard for a bit. Do you think my dog will be ok.

Dogs bark for different reasons. My sister's last golden, Toby, used to bound up to the fence and and bark loudly two or three times with his tail wagging wildly. He was just excited to meet and when you came through the gate he couldn't make up his mind if he wanted to get patted or run around wildly. They're a gentle and apparently the breed that's least likely to bite you. They can be exuberant and yes, they're fairly big. If they want to play and bump into you, you'll know it.
