For those thinking about which breed to pick, from personal experience, golden retreivers are absolutely the best! But be prepared for a few things: 1) they'll steal your heart and you'll be okay with that, it's their superpower, 2) they are the quintessential extrovert, they need and love people, so if they stop listening to you around new people, that's normal, lol 3) going potty won't be done under a minute, they are not in a hurry and need to smell EVERYTHING first, 4) expect the unexpected, they have bright, full personalities, a contagious joy and are very curious creatures, they will surprise you with how they act 5) they absolutely love and go stupid crazy over the tennis ball but can't catch it to save their lives, and last... 6) you'll shatter when they pass away, it was easy to overlook just how much joy she brought to me every day (because I got to enjoy it every day!), nothing will fill that space again, you'll just have to learn to live with one more hole in your heart. Don't let this deter you though, looking back, it was SO worth it. RIP Whisper 2000-2014, I'll see you again over rainbow bridge.

Wonderful list. The tennis ball thing, what’s up with that. Hahaha We got two boys from the same litter as pups and boy was it hard for the first year but I am so in love with my babies. It pains me when the negative thought of them passing away sneaks into my mind and I can feel the tears welling up in my eyes threatening to break my heart. Your golden baby made it to 14yrs! That’s amazing. I pray ours will too.

Its not a space thing with a golden believe it or not. I feel like this is a common dog misconception. Its all about a dogs energy levels and the exercise they get. I had a belgen malanois in an apartment and he did just fine. But i took him for long walks before and after work often id find a fenced area like a school yard and let him off leash

All good advice. My 6 month old golden demands a huge amount of attention and exercise when she’s awake! They love car rides ! A super loving and super fun breed. But high maintenance.
I wish our goldie loved the car, She wasn't too bad at first but now we struggle to get her in, even with chicken in the offing. She's 16 months old. I can only think it's the bumps in the roads she doesn't like. Usually have the widows down or air con if it's a warm day.
I have my 4th Golden now and he is 10 years old. At age 2, he became a Therapy Dog. That was the best thing for him! He loved the attention and doing a job. Came home very tired. He is amazing and I love him sooo much! Yes, make sure you get a good breeder. I learned that from other dogs I have had.
Had golden retrievers for over 30 years. Love them to bits. Currently have 5. If I lose my balance they allow me to grab them. They try to be lap dogs but they are very cuddly. One of them often barks at me because he wants to play. But I am a softie and he knows it.
I have 2 Golden Retrievers (2 and 3 y/o)... They do not need supplements if they eat healthy (dog food) and according to their vet.. they do not need a bath every week, on the contrary I've been told not to bath them more often than once a month (unless the play on mud)
This is our second Golden Retriever. I agree They, they do not need supplements if they eat healthy natural dog food. Poppy loves fish, so we sometimes give her tinned fish in oil (with a bit of the oil). Our vet commented what a nice shiny coat she has & says she is really fit & healthy (she's eight). He also recommended not to bath her more than twice a year otherwise it strips their coat of natural oils, etc. Obviously if they roll in something disgusting, like fox pooh, you have no choice. If Poppy just gets muddy, we dry her with a towel & brush the rest out when she's dry.
I am one of those really lucky/fortunate GR owners. I was awarded my GR Service Dog in January. She is my Angel from God. Lots of work, for sure. I have my own grooming equipment and table now. I can't afford taking her into a groomer. I am doing pretty good though, thanks to TH-cam. The investment of grooming table, clipping equipment, and Pro groomer dryer pays for itself real fast. I did buy an expensive vacuum that deals with pet hair better than any I have seen. Grooming, and vacuuming is definitely a daily thing. Deal with it, and LOVE it. GR's are way more than worth it.
We've had two golden's and I can't imagine a better creature to have ever inhabited this planet! Smart, funny, loving, affectionate, did I mention funny? My heart cannot take the 🌈🌈 at the moment. The loss of my best friend still lingers after 7 years. I’m sure that I will find another Goldie at the right moment. Until then, I’ll just watch from the sidelines.
We lose our Abbie and within a week a good friend found us another one, Annie. Annie was born the same day Abbie had to be put down. A blessing to us. Then Annie had to be put down at 12 years. You are one very special and lucky person with an awfully big heart. Two Goldies can be a house full but 5 definitely keeps you busy. I find it difficult to love any breed as much as the Goldie.
@@RetrieverCare It's really not that difficult. We have been showing and breeding Goldens for 20 years. They are extremely easy to train and eager to please. Having multiple Goldens really isn't a huge chore, aside from vacuuming and sweeping up all the hair.
Puppies bite when they are taken away from their mothers too soon and are not shown corrective behavior by her. Bad Breeders tend to take away puppies too soon. If you’re being offered a pup who has been with its mother and pack less then 8 weeks I recommend you go with someone else.
Totally agreed, yes the ideal minimum time that the puppy should be able to separate from its mother is 8 weeks but still, many ethologists also claim that the puppy should be with its mother until 12 weeks of age.
I got mine from my daughter who bred the parents and they are champions. My Dixie is now 15 months old. I had my 2nd hip replacement surgery last week so im staying at my daughter's. My husband brought Dixie over to see me which upset our daughter because dad has been encouraging Dixie to jump up on him for hugs. I think (hope) that he has finally gotten the message to not do that anymore. She is our 1st Golden and if id known how wonderful the breed is, i would have gotten a Golden years ago!
I rescued four female golden retrievers (i mother and three pups) whom i got as pups from a breeder who died and had nobody to take care of them. I went through the childhood and now i am so glad i got them and thank god i had the mother to take care of them most of the time when they were pups, but i lose 30 pounds in three month (best diet ever) and i was beyond exhausted. So yes, think twice or 45 times before getting a GR pup. By the way my husband named them and the names are so good i can help but sharing them. the offspring are called Blanche, Rose and Dorothy and the mother is called Sophia, there are our golden girls ! And yes we are a gay couple !
Please don’t call your full breed retrievers , rescues. They are not rescues. Rescues are the animals at kill shelters that are sick, diseased and need saving because no one wants to adopt them. I have spent so much money on giving health to my actual rescues which aren’t pure breeds so I cannot stand people calling their pets, rescues when simply they were just adopted. My pets were extremely sick and another needed surgery. They were in kill shelters ready to be put down because no one wanted to adopt sick nonbreeds. Rescues are the ones in kill shelters and/or have been through extreme abuse. Calling your retriever a rescue isn’t appreciating what actual abused rescue pets have actually endured. Retrievers go for over $3,000 and is a top breed to own for families so no way was it in threat of going to a shelter. Stop calling your dog a rescue, people see through that BS. Would be great if you actually did rescue an nonbreed since they are the ones who never get adopted and are put down.
We lost our amazing golden 2 years ago we miss him so much he was an incredable family dog great with the grandkids and everybodys friend just a special breed ❤
Do not piss away a dime with a so called reputable breeder, rescue a dog from a shelter, etc. These animals show such appreciation and love once rescued.
Had always loved/was good with dogs all my life, never had a chance to own one of mine though until 4 years back...my dream came true n i was able to become a dad for sheldon, there's only one word i get in mind when i see him or any/all goldens....Angels 😇 I was super lucky to have my boy in this life! Enjoying it thoroughly! Hahaha best dog ever man golden retriever!!!
I have a golden doodle But his personality is 100% golden retriever. - he has crazy energy - hes friendly with all people, children and dogs - bad seperation anxiety - he naturally fetches. I didnt have to train him to play fetch i throw the ball he brings it back, i throw the stick he brings it back i throw a toy he brings it back definetly a retriever.

I just put my 12-year-old best friend down. When the vet says that it's not a tumor, maybe it's best to get a biopsy anyway. Such a great family dog! My third such child, in a row. Saying goodbye to them has been more than awful. They give so much unconditional love, affection, adventure!
When I was out today, I remember seeing this golden and he immediately locked eyes onto me and gave me the "I'm gonna be your best friend" look 🤣 He was grinning so hard and I couldn't help but play with him loool goldens are the best breed ever
me and my family are about to get one in less than a month, i am a brother out of a family of 5 and have a very big house, i cant wait to get her and to start running around the backyard everyday and learn to take care of her

I have a golden retriever as well and agree with everything in the video but with one exception- please do not shampoo and condition your dog every week! It is not good for their skin! I only use shampoo and conditioner when absolutely necessary because of dirt/stink. Most of the time it is enough to just shower them off with water or even just rub them clean with a towel.

My favorite fur baby was my Golden. Alas, all pure breeds are prone to health problems. Goldens have a tendency to get jaw cancer. I found out the hard way.
I dog sat my grandson's Golden Retriever for the weekend. He has started digging under the wooden fence. I thought it would be easy to just turn the dog out into the backyard but no, I have to go out with him to try to keep him from digging and escaping. My husband and I don't want to put stones or blocks along the fence. Our own little shih tzu started digging--we lost him last month. We had the stones removed where he was digging. Now, what are we going to do about the Golden's digging?
Where do you get your information? 1) If crate trained and socialized PROPERLY, a Golden CAN be left alone in the house. It's best if you have someone come in and give them a walk if away for more than about 4 or 5 hours (on a regular basis.) 2) Golden retrievers are NOT high maintenance. They should be brushed on a regular basis (a few times a week will keep the mess to a minimum) but they do NOT need to be bathed weekly as you said. Baths when dirty (or for a special occasion.) Every month to 2 / 3 months if they don't get dirty. 3) what they DO NEED is TRAINING! If you train your dog from the moment he comes home, the biting and other "hyper active" behaviors will be kept to a minimum. Golden retrievers are WORKING dogs! Train them and give them a job to do. Daily walks. Socialization. Both you and the dog will be much happier for it!
@@oranjebeer6637 guess you didn’t read the full comment above. “They do NOT need to be bathed weekly…… every month to 2/3 months of they’re not dirty”. Or smelly. Bathing too often can dry out their coat and skin.

Golden retrievers are the easiest dogs to own, there very clever and are easy to train, they always want to please there owner, there the most loving breed I’ve ever had, I’ve never met a more well behaved breed. Just don’t get a golden retriever if you don’t like having a dog that malts hair a lot and finding hairs all over the house and all over your clothes after a cuddle, it’s part of the package lol, but there definitely worth it.

Bite marks are true. Mine would gnaw on my hand all the time when it was a puppy. Never broke skin, just some small bruises, so I didn't mind much but if it started to use it's back teeth I drew the line there (those back teeth hurt)

@@RetrieverCare It's really not that difficult. We have been showing and breeding Goldens for 20 years. They are extremely easy to train and eager to please. Having multiple Goldens really isn't a huge chore, aside from vacuuming and sweeping up all the hair.
I'm getting an 8 week old pup tomorrow. I'm so excited but really nervous. I've had dogs in the past but have never been this excited
aren't Goldies the best 😍
Yes they are 😍
Yes they are
I love them
Sad I messed up the no. :v
It was 69 😂
They are 😍😍😍
Puppies bite when they are taken away from their mothers too soon and are not shown corrective behavior by her.
Awww! The puppies are so cute! My Golden is 4 yrs old. Happy and healthy!
Oh that's amazing. : )
NOW I NEED TO GET ONE I LOVE THEM!!!❤️
Do not piss away a dime with a so called reputable breeder, rescue a dog from a shelter, etc. These animals show such appreciation and love once rescued.
Had always loved/was good with dogs all my life, never had a chance to own one of mine though until 4 years back...my dream came true n i was able to become a dad for sheldon, there's only one word i get in mind when i see him or any/all goldens....Angels 😇
I was super lucky to have my boy in this life! Enjoying it thoroughly! Hahaha best dog ever man golden retriever!!!
Thank you so much! My family is thinking about getting one and we are now fully prepared for one!
My fav breed is Golden Retriever only :) and at my Birthday means after 1 month am getting my Golden pup, and I am soooooooooo muchhhh excited 🤩❤❤

@@oranjebeer6637I used to have a red doodle, turns out it was just lipstick!!
When I am getting a big house, I am getting this dog breed no matter what, no huskies, no shepherds, just Golden Retrievers, these cuties melt my heart.
my GR's almost 2, he has no plans to calm down 😂
Our 4 year old Golden boy is still as peppy as a puppy. :D
Well they are golden retrievers, can you blame them :)
I would tell the same thing for my little simba :)
Aww thanks so much for these tips!! Definitely helps with my goldie Nessa 💕 💓

10 golden retriever puppies were just born last week and I'm so excited cause I'm gonna get one in January
Thanks for those advice! I was thinking about buying a Golden Retriever, so this was very helpful! :)
Glad it was helpful!
We love our 💛golden girl. Wouldn’t have it any other way. But yes…so true on your video! Our girl will be six in May and totally acts like a teenager.
I back this 110%!!! All the good and all the you need to know.
The first year is really rough. No, not a little, it’s rough. It’s worth it but follow this channel.!it’s very true. Says a owner of a 5 year old golden.
We're so glad :)
My mom and dad said I could get a puppy and I decided to get a golden retriever it hasn't come yet and this video helped me A lot thank you for posting this video
Its a great decision however we had to convince our parents a lot for our Simba😄 There's no doubt those chubby creatures will always be by your side no matter what. We're really glad we could be of any help :) Thank you so much!
I have a golden retriever now so this video helped 😊
Not being alone is soo true..I literally have to sit with her for half hour before she falls asleep completely 😅
I just put my 12-year-old best friend down. When the vet says that it's not a tumor, maybe it's best to get a biopsy anyway.
Such a great family dog! My third such child, in a row. Saying goodbye to them has been more than awful. They give so much
unconditional love, affection, adventure!
I just lost mine at 12 years old . I loved him so much. His name was Wilson!
When I was out today, I remember seeing this golden and he immediately locked eyes onto me and gave me the "I'm gonna be your best friend" look 🤣
He was grinning so hard and I couldn't help but play with him loool goldens are the best breed ever
me and my family are about to get one in less than a month, i am a brother out of a family of 5 and have a very big house, i cant wait to get her and to start running around the backyard everyday and learn to take care of her
That is so great! Also have you thought of a name? :)

Wow, such a great video. I got my golden retriever last month and this video is really helpful for me. Great job.
I’m getting a golden on Monday and this is really helpful
I will always love a golden retriever to love them and adore them for years and years I will always love a golden retriever to adore them for years and years of my life. They are my favorite dog and I always will forever love them.
I got my golden retriever when he was 2 months old, and while he was hyper, he never bit anyone
Thanks so much for this!!! We are planning on getting one in December ❤️
Wow that is so great :) I'm sure you will have the best memories with your cute and fluffy golden!
So, have yoy got one??
I love these dogs so much.
I have a long haired Shepard getting up in years. Thinking about a retriever four the next phase of our lives.
My golden retriever i have now is the lowest maintenance dog I've ever had. But he does shed......a lot
Ours didn’t calm down until he was 6.5 years! Total puppy until then.
Haha well that's golden retrievers for you :)
My wiggly noodle is a character, and I love it.
Haha our Simba is one hell of a character too😂 We're so glad you liked our video! Thank you for the comment❤
Ello, the same person from beagle care. I was abt to get a beagle brother for my Labrador but i thought lets get a golden retriever. So i was searching golden retriever care and here i saw u same voice and video editing so i found you. I’m finally so happy i found the best advicer for dog ever
Haha yeah. I am glad I could be of any help :)

You got that right lots of things people must know....they are adorable as puppy also lots of work as well. I get exchusted. 2 eyes at all time if you don't want your house smell like poop and pee among other things. They are a handful FYI. Full time caregiver in another word until they're trained or reach adult ag.
I have a mini golden retriever her name is ginger I love her to death...she is 2 your video are the best you help me so much..love Sophia
We just met the prettiest 5 month old female golden retriever
So cute 🥰
They are indeed the prettiest😍 Thank you for the Comment! We hope we were of any help :)
Most dogs are a handful when they are young, but enjoy their friskiness now. You'll miss it when they're older and more quiet!
Yes we ourselves miss our cute little simba :(
I got my retriever from the pound he’s now 7 years young I love him
This is helpful thanks
I have a beagle and golden retriever but they don’t get anxiety if I leave them for a week in the home also cuz they play with each other ☺️
Yeah that's true, they both have each other's company. But please don't leave them alone for a week. They need human attention.
@@RetrieverCare that is very rare and emergency situation so I left my dog alone and I won’t do it again .and bro kindly can you put day in grottos life in beagle care channel
Lots of work but well worth having a golden
Haha yeah true.
great video i love you video keep making more about goldies
I am glad. Thanks a lot 😊
Great video we just got a 9 week old golden boy
Your videos are great and helped so mch
Goldens also lean on people. I don't know why but they sure like to lean. Goldens and Labs are the best.
Yeah that's true
Nice same voice used on MSA videos! Def following I’m looking into getting a golden retriever puppy for my son who has several disabilities and I want them to be a service dog so I’m researching right now
My favorite fur baby was my Golden. Alas, all pure breeds are prone to health problems. Goldens have a tendency to get jaw cancer. I found out the hard way.
Sadly all Goldens have a predisposition to cancer and not just jaw cancer. We too found out the hard way , twice.
This is true for all or most dogs
I dog sat my grandson's Golden Retriever for the weekend. He has started digging under the wooden fence. I thought it would be easy to just turn the dog out into the backyard but no, I have to go out with him to try to keep him from digging and escaping. My husband and I don't want to put stones or blocks along the fence. Our own little shih tzu started digging--we lost him last month. We had the stones removed where he was digging. Now, what are we going to do about the Golden's digging?
Where do you get your information? 1) If crate trained and socialized PROPERLY, a Golden CAN be left alone in the house. It's best if you have someone come in and give them a walk if away for more than about 4 or 5 hours (on a regular basis.)
2) Golden retrievers are NOT high maintenance.
Dogs need to be washed even when they are not dirty!!!
@@oranjebeer6637 guess you didn’t read the full comment above. “They do NOT need to be bathed weekly…… every month to 2/3 months of they’re not dirty”. Or smelly.
Bathing too often can dry out their coat and skin.
I have a Lab pretty close . Yes they chew that’s why I crate train 😊
As I watch this chuckling and agreeing, I opened my bathroom door and my golden was laying right there. Lol
How often do you brush your golden?
Haha they are surely quite Mischievous! We're glad you liked this video😄 Thank you so much :)
This video will answer all your questions about Golden's Coat and their Brushing: th-cam.com/video/CTMX8RVW7i0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=B4TcSRHv0Ohm3LiY We are glad we could help! Thank you so much😄
Wonderful, thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Great info. thank you for sharing this video.
They surely are the best and so much worth it :)
Agreed :)
I havent owned a dog since I had Rocky (1980-1994) but just reading the comments made me very sad. Sorry you guys are going through this difficult time. I am going to meet one at dog adoption this wk excited but then reading comments below makes me wonder if I want to go through losing a best friend again :(
I love Golden retrievers ❤
I love all dogs, but I have a special affinity for Goldens.
Yeah that's true. Goldens are the best.
I have owned one yesterday✨️😘🙃
Bite marks are true. Mine would gnaw on my hand all the time when it was a puppy. Never broke skin, just some small bruises, so I didn't mind much but if it started to use it's back teeth I drew the line there (those back teeth hurt)
6: they only shed once a year.
From January 1st trough to December 31st.
Golden retriever master race!
thanks so much dear for ur advice..my golden puppy will arrive by feb 26th of 2022
eagerly waiting 4 him💕💕
My goldie died three years ago, I am 72 now. We were together 14 years.
I’m sorry man. I had to put my buddy down last August. He was 15, a shiatsu
