I am sorry for your lost, friend. I lost my red haired lab, Troy, this March, to cancer. I still cry sometimes thinking of him. I hope you know how much your pup loved you, and know that you've been blessed with one of the purest forms of love in existence, something many don't get to experience. Your tears are a sign of how pure and deep that bond was, and forever will be. Stay strong, and remember - somewhere out there, there might just be another pup who may need your love. Keep an open heart, and maybe one day your beloved old friend will reappear as another wiggling, happy pup.
Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!
My wife and I have had four Labs over the course of our life and they have all been the best dogs we could ever have. Sadly our last Lab passed away last month and it’s been extremely heart breaking. He was a 12 year old male named Cowboy and he like our other Labs will be sorely missed. We are thankful that we had him for as long as we did and it reminds us that along with the happiness and joy they bring to our lives it’s only for a short time so hug your dog a little more today and thank them for letting you be in their life
I'm not sure how old this post is, but wanted to comment and can certainly empathize with your loss. We too just lost our fourth lab, Rosie died at the age of 12 too. Rosie had been bred for the purpose of becoming a Guide Dog for the Blind. Happily for us, she never made the last cut, and had to find a new career. We were lucky enough to find her and adopt her. She was our best friend, like all of our labs, just a wonderful companion and pet. Everyone loved her, even those who confessed to not being a "dog person". Rosie was intuitive, she sensed our moods, and emotions and would simply sit with you until you were feeling better. A wonderful breed, we have a big, wide hole in our hearts, for Rose, Jake, Bob and Noelle. RIP kids!
Mines is all black with special white markings. He and his sister were prison guard dogs well trained sine they were young. Prisoners loved him they fed him food and he’s sit there watch you eat. So they named him doof food backwards😂 one day a guard was getting rough with him and barked at him so the guard pulled his pistol out and almost shot him in the face but a prisoner jumped up and told the guard he’d kill him if he killed the dog. So they let the dog go and that same prisoner got ahold of him and kept him since. That was me
I have a three year old black lab named Boba. She is the sweetest and best thing ever. She was very easy to train I started from the first day I got her. And she knew how to sit, lie down, speak, spin, stay, come, hug, high five, and heal in two weeks. She is actually my service animal. And I could never wish for a better pet.
I have 3 and they are the best things ever. We live in the country so they chase the horses, swim in the pond and we have a pool so they swim in that too. Greatest dogs ever!
The portion size control is so true. Our was getting a little chubby, we went from 2 cups a meal to 1 cup and 1/2 and she's now lean and athletic. They say it's better to have them diet as being lean can help prevent hip and knee dysplasia for which they are prone.
Got buck (my med assist dog) 18 mo this ago don't know how I lived without him in my life can't imagine/ dont want to think of life without him he truly is the greatest thing to ever have happened in my 50years on this planet. Thank you my goozleboy you have changed my life buck
I got the privilege to retire a lab guide dog. She was amazingly loving and smart. It took 5 years for my family to deal with her passing before we got another lab. They are a wonderful breed.
I have a Yellow Lab. I call him the best dog I never wanted. 3 or so years ago I had to put down my Newfoundland lab mix due to health and age related problems. Being that it was the first time in 50ish years (since I was born TBH) I didn't have a dog I told my wife that at my age I just didn't feel up to training a new puppy. Well wouldn't you know several months later through Facebook she obtained the *Yellow Lab.* At first I wasn't thrilled but since then I've realized that we lucked out and got a fantastic dog. I say luck because he was the last unclaimed one in the litter so we didn't get to pick. He's super smart, one of the smartest I've ever trained. The sad part is since he's a companion for my wife and I he's kind of wasted. I mean that if he'd ended up in a program that trains service dogs he would have been great at that. I say he's one of the smartest I've ever had, but as far as reading human body language and or cues, heck even situations, I've never had a dog like him. Cock a thumb in a certain direction and he knows exactly what you want from him without verbal commands. Plus he was completely housebroken at 9 weeks old. I've probably had around 30 dogs total in my whole life and he's the best at nonverbal cues and commands of any of them. All this from the dog I never wanted in the first place. I would recommend Labradors to first time dog owners who have the time and patience to work with them (even then it's not too taxing). I think the video mentions chewing and that's important to keep in mind. Teach them from the start what is ok to chew and not chew. It seems Labs hold on to that behavior longer than some breeds. Video also mentions weight control. Just remember the average Lab is essentially a stomach with a cute face and a tail attached, and will overeat if you let them. Keep their weight down and they'll live a fairly long happy life loving the crap out of you. Sorry for the long comment. Just feeling like sharing a story about my "furry butt" guy. 👍

It's so nice to know about this breed. I am happy to have one. I never had a dog earlier and this is my first experience. It's such a loving pet. I would suggest people who are looking forward to own a pet to go for a labrador. They are really loving.
My Nicky is the most loyal, loving dog, well tuned to people and so friendly. You can leave your food on a plate, go out the room for few minutes and when you come back - neither him nor my other dog would have touched the food. He loves toys, treats, to play and have long cuddles. My dogs are the reason I get thru the day, every day xxxx
Yeah same here. I’ve been around a lot of Labs. I have one now who is a bit energetic in the morning but after about 45 minutes of play time he just wants to lay down and be lazy. He’s my snuggle buddy when I read in bed after work
We just put our 12 yo lad down to today. He had a large cancer lesion on his back leg. It could not be removed. He got up today in pain. I knew it was time. My ( now old ) vet was to busy to help. We would have to wait till Monday. I took him to an er vet. They made time to help. They were so nice. And they never knew me. They put an iv in and he was asleep befor they put him down. I held him the whole time. Now he is over the rainbow bridge. And out of pain..... I know my first lab Jake was there to meet him and show him the ropes.... Rest in peace Rocky. I will never forget you....
My lab/pit mix left us about a month back after 14 years and 9 days. She was the love of my life and I miss her. A 8 month old puppy was offered to me and I took them up on the offer. She is a lab/black mouth cur mix and man is she a handful and even more powerful then my 1st lab mix. She's going to be a big dog..
We have a black lab. Her name is Ruby. She’s beautiful and very unique. She’s smart, gentle and loyal. We love her so much. Even she is 12 yrs now but still act like a puppy which makes us laugh everytime she’s around.
My lab hates water and car rides. We got her 3 months after my daughter was born so they grew up together and I love how patient she is. Hope she lives forever.

I have 3 black labbies now and they're all just superstar angels . They're sweet loyal, cheeky but extremely obedient, and just want to please you more than anything in the world (snacks close second). Hands down the best dogs.
Had a lab from late June 2006 to late October 2019. She was so smart and so sweet and loving to everyone. It's been more than a year and I still miss her so much that I can't fathom buying a new dog... :(

I been watching this video 4 months ago before we bought one . Now he's peeing on everyone that pets him out of excitement 😑 I socialisationed him at very young age and now he loves everyone and I mean every single person . He's very very intelligent 👌
3 years tmy kids were begging for a lab retriever... after lots of begging and thinking, I gave them a lot of rules if we got one they were excited....now we the parents have spoiled this dog like crazy, he sleeps with us, takes all the bed, he is so fun, loving, he is a bag of sugar with everybody... we love him so much we don't want to think of ever losing him😢
I had my cream/yellow lab for 13 years. He was absolutely one of the best dogs I've ever owned. Smart, strong, noble and protective especially with my daughter. I highly recommend a lab to anyone who is active and loves the outdoors. Leave your males unsipped. This will prevent weight gain and keep them strong and energetic. Females need a strict diet if you dont plan to breed them. (Rescues are much in need of good homes) Sir Bam Bam lived till he was 13 years of age and went peacefully late last year. I will own many more dogs in my lifetime and a lab will definitely be one. One thing to look out for is blindness. Many dogs are susceptible to it, but labs especially. They adapt well but it is nonetheless heartbreaking. Still, one of the best dogs for families and active adults ❤
I miss my Yellow Lab Argos everyday. We had to put him down in May of 2019 due to health problems. He could barely get up the stairs unless somebody practically pushed him up. He was having bladder and stomach problems and would sometime poop out solid turds randomly. (Sorry if that sounds really gross). And he was becoming really slow due to his arthritis. He was a month away from turning 14 years old, which is ANCIENT for Labs. We just didn’t want him to suffer anymore. Which is unfortunate. He was the best damn dog ever. He was super friendly with everybody that he met and looked really happy all the time. (As in he smiled pretty much 24/7) When he did his business outside, he did it in the woods and not the yard itself so we didn’t have to pick it up. He was very smart and never did anything stupid. I had a sweet yellow lab. He was born summer of 2017. We got him in in spring of 2018 when had to be re-homed because he murdered a coop of chickens! He was the sweetest, happiest guy you’d ever meet, and he was a runt so he still looked like a pup at 5 years old! He was a monstrous eater, which unfortunately led to his death when he ate an entire bag of hip medicine while we weren’t looking. ER was unable to save him. He was only 5 years old. RIP my Angel.
As a kid we had a pond on our property. Our lab would sprint to the pond, jump in, doggie paddle to the other side, jump back in doggie paddle back, repeat several more times. She would then get out, soaking wet and sprint back to us, shake off on us, and then sprint back to the pond and repeat the cycle all over again. They're silly dogs who dance to their own beat.
I’ve had many rescue dogs over the years - Golden, Collie, Shepherd, Pyrenees, and several Labs. They were all fantastic dogs and lived long lives. I can’t explain it, but two of the Labs became my soulmates. They weren’t just wonderful pets, they were my best friends. My then-young children tortured them, and yet they took it all in stride and came back for more abuse! Of course the kids were too little to hurt the dogs in any way. And when the Labs got old and infirm, the same kids (now older) nursed them until the end.
Just got a black lab seeing eye dog. Very different from my previous guide, a german shepherd. Hyper affectionate, still very much a puppy. Loves to work, loves to play, loves to cuddle. He takes tremendous care to not repeat mistakes. Super goofy..
I have had 5 Labs . My last one Bella Star passed away in Oct . I love these dogs they are wonderful companions. The one problem with them is they love everyone and can go off with someone. I have lost 2 that way. Bella lived to be almost 12. I was elderly and poor health most her life so she didn't get do some off the things they love . I only had her in the water once. My first Lab was trained for duck hunting and she was a great retriever.
Just adopted a mixed breed lab and aspin (Philippine native dog) and named her Kitty. Her mom is half aspin half lab and her dad is a pure lab. She's a black lab with with white spots in her feet that looked like socks. Kitty is so charismatic and very behave. Fell in love on the first day. ❤️
I was blessed to have my yellow lab Bandit for close to 15 years. He truly loved humans more then anything (besides swimming & treats)😉. Even if you were a complete stranger he would greet you like a long time pal.
I had a Labrador/Rottweiler mix for 13 years and she was the sweetest friend anyone could ask for. She slept on the floor beside my bed every day after I adopted her and greeted me at the door every time I came home. I’ll probably never have another dog as good as her.
A lot of times Labs dont realize how strong they are and how their size intimidates big and small dogs. they are so gentle yet they are really strong and clumsy so we always exercised caution when children were around
Favorite dog breed EVER! I have a chocolate female now but have owned several in my life. They are loving, easy to train, and very smart. Mine now loves to cuddle. They can be diggers though & definitely need a lot of attention. I’d still never own another breed!

My Xerxes, golden Lab, my son!! Because of him I survived the worst phase of my life, because of him I turned vegan, because of him I started rescuing and saving innumerable dogs and animals and because of him I opened my Xerxes Farm Sanctuary which is home to many rescued dogs, goats, fishes, ducks, hens and other animals. I am a better human today only because of my boy Xerxes!! Gone too soon but my heartbeat forever!! He is with my dad in heaven now... And I miss him every second of my life 😣😞💔
Whilst reading the comments my Choc Lab just farted and I think I am going to pass out. I forgive here because she is almost 13 years old and perfectly toilet trained. We only had a very few accidents when she was a puppy. I had a fall at home a few weeks ago and had to call the ambulance to take me to hospital. She was so good when the paramedics arrived to treat my injuries. She just wanted to sit beside me to know I was going to be alright. One of the paramedics even commented that it was obvious that my do really loved me and was devoted to me.
I had two beautiful labs,white in colour they were so loyal affectionate,protecting me and my property,they are fabulous and gentle with children,and other animals in the home.They have a lot of energy so must be walked and played with daily they love being part of a family and to me the best dog,they do eat a lot but exercise will help keep weight down.A dogs for life remember that .mine both lived until 14 years and 15 years love love love these pets.

We picked our lab puppy at the shelter. Of all the puppies we tried to play with, none fit , except Paprika. They named her that because she had an attitude. We picked her and renamed her Maggie. She is calm and sweet. We couldn’t ask for a better dog than our lab, Maggie.
Labradors are beautiful dogs, I would love to have one. I had a Kelpie cross Australian Shepherd for a childhood pet. He was roughly 13 (Normal age) when he passed. I miss him so much he was so beautiful and friendly. Gentle Giant ❤
We have a fantastic yellow lab named Harley, she's quickly became the center of the family. We love her so much. They say there's 2 kind of Labradors, the english and the american one. I think ours is more of the american breed.
We now have our third Lab from Chocolate to Black and now Yellow. Layla is seven months old, somewhat wooo to us for forgetting how active Lab puppies are. But She is a joy, smart, ACTIVE, and loving. If you get a Lab buckle up - for it is a ride. Oh yea,... she loves the mail carriers!
My pup just turned 1today April 1,2020 Bubba’s a hand full so strong doesn’t listen to me at all ! But he Loves me, suffered from depression and the dog came into my life and he’s helping me through this difficult time. I went from sitting at home to walk in 3 to 4 miles a day. 1 mile walks at a time. You can’t back out on walking him. He Will go ape shit crazy But we’re making some memories and I’m glad to have him in my life. Sorry I went on so long so if you’re still reading this thanks 🙏🏽 and GOD Bless !
I just put my 14yr old lab mix down (of course she looked all lab) A wonderful dog, my best friend. I would like to get another, but have 2 fears...1) I'm might be too old, and 2) I don't think I could replace my Leatle. Silly thoughts, but a reality for me. They are a wonderful breed.

@@Nineteen0five Time does move on. As I have looked at dogs everyday it was last month that I saw a post on FB from a woman in TX that had found a dog. She said she couldn't keep it because it had issues with her alpha female. She said she would keep it 2 wks and if no one wanted her she would turn her over to the pound. I didn't think much of it at the time because she posted wonderful pics of this pup swimming in her beautiful built in swimming pool. Nonetheless 2 weeks went by and she posted that the county had come and gotten her. She said that she would post the listing from the pound and God knows when she did the pound intake photo spoke to me. It was horrible to see just what that difference made to a dog. I was horrified and knew then that I would save this dog. I'm only sharing this with you because it is so crazy on my part, but rewarding. I called the Harris Co. pound and they said that I could only put a hold on her in person. Fast fwd...fly to Houston and sign the papers. They would not release her until she was spayed. I begged if they got assurance from my vet of 30 years would they make an exception and the answer was no. So fly home and wait for them to schedule her to be spayed. They stated the next Friday would be the day so dummy me bought another airline ticket and what happened - on Wed they called and said surgery was postponed because she had kennel cough. I thought well I guess I have to wait until they say she's ready, but you know how expensive those last minute airline tickets can be. Not to mention when they call and say she's ready you only have 2 days to get her or she goes back into genpop and could be adopted by anyone. The good news - they called on Wed said she was ready. I begged them to hold her until Saturday and the answer was again no, so I rolled the dice. Flew back to Houston on Saturday rented a truck picked her up and drove home. I will give kuddos to the Bissell Foundation because they were having a program that they paid for the adoption. So I just donated the adoption money back to Harris Co.Pet Services. And I felt really special when the man who did the paperwork said that of all the interests from out of state I was the only one that came back. I still think that I may be too old and of course she can never replace Leatle, but she's mine and I will give her the best life that I can and in the event she will be provided for. My childhood dog was a lab whose back legs stopped working and had to be put down, that's probably what happened

My Nicky is the most loyal, loving dog, well tuned to people and so friendly. You can leave your food on a plate, go out the room for few minutes and when you come back - neither him nor my other dog would have touched the food. He loves toys, treats, to play and have long cuddles. My dogs are the reason I get thru the day, every day xxxx

We just put our 12 yo lad down to today. He had a large cancer lesion on his back leg. It could not be removed. He got up today in pain. I knew it was time. My ( now old ) vet was to busy to help. We would have to wait till Monday. I took him to an er vet. They made time to help. They were so nice. And they never knew me. They put an iv in and he was asleep befor they put him down. I held him the whole time. Now he is over the rainbow bridge. And out of pain..... I know my first lab Jake was there to meet him and show him the ropes.... Rest in peace Rocky. I will never forget you....

My lab/pit mix left us about a month back after 14 years and 9 days. She was the love of my life and I miss her. A 8 month old puppy was offered to me and I took them up on the offer. She is a lab/black mouth cur mix and man is she a handful and even more powerful then my 1st lab mix. She's going to be a big dog..
We have a black lab. Her name is Ruby. She’s beautiful and very unique. She’s smart, gentle and loyal. We love her so much. Even she is 12 yrs now but still act like a puppy which makes us laugh everytime she’s around.

My lab hates water and car rides. We got her 3 months after my daughter was born so they grew up together and I love how patient she is. Hope she lives forever.

I have 3 black labbies now and they're all just superstar angels . They're sweet loyal, cheeky but extremely obedient, and just want to please you more than anything in the world (snacks close second). Hands down the best dogs.

3 years tmy kids were begging for a lab retriever... after lots of begging and thinking, I gave them a lot of rules if we got one they were excited....now we the parents have spoiled this dog like crazy, he sleeps with us, takes all the bed, he is so fun, loving, he is a bag of sugar with everybody... we love him so much we don't want to think of ever losing him😢
I had my cream/yellow lab for 13 years. He was absolutely one of the best dogs I've ever owned. Smart, strong, noble and protective especially with my daughter. I highly recommend a lab to anyone who is active and loves the outdoors. Leave your males unsipped. This will prevent weight gain and keep them strong and energetic. Females need a strict diet if you dont plan to breed them. (Rescues are much in need of good homes) Sir Bam Bam lived till he was 13 years of age and went peacefully late last year. I will own many more dogs in my lifetime and a lab will definitely be one. One thing to look out for is blindness. Many dogs are susceptible to it, but labs especially. They adapt well but it is nonetheless heartbreaking. Still, one of the best dogs for families and active adults ❤

I miss my Yellow Lab Argos everyday. We had to put him down in May of 2019 due to health problems. He could barely get up the stairs unless somebody practically pushed him up. He was having bladder and stomach problems and would sometime poop out solid turds randomly. (Sorry if that sounds really gross). And he was becoming really slow due to his arthritis. He was a month away from turning 14 years old, which is ANCIENT for Labs. We just didn’t want him to suffer anymore. Which is unfortunate. He was the best damn dog ever. He was super friendly with everybody that he met and looked really happy all the time. (As in he smiled pretty much 24/7) When he did his business outside, he did it in the woods and not the yard itself so we didn’t have to pick it up. He was very smart and never did anything stupid. I just really miss having a lab.

I had a sweet yellow lab. He was born summer of 2017. We got him in in spring of 2018 when had to be re-homed because he murdered a coop of chickens! He was the sweetest, happiest guy you’d ever meet, and he was a runt so he still looked like a pup at 5 years old! He was a monstrous eater, which unfortunately led to his death when he ate an entire bag of hip medicine while we weren’t looking. ER was unable to save him. He was only 5 years old. RIP my Angel.
As a kid we had a pond on our property. Our lab would sprint to the pond, jump in, doggie paddle to the other side, jump back in doggie paddle back, repeat several more times. She would then get out, soaking wet and sprint back to us, shake off on us, and then sprint back to the pond and repeat the cycle all over again. They're silly dogs who dance to their own beat.
Labrador Retrievers are wonderful dogs and great with kids! Highly recommend!
I’ve had many rescue dogs over the years - Golden, Collie, Shepherd, Pyrenees, and several Labs. They were all fantastic dogs and lived long lives. I can’t explain it, but two of the Labs became my soulmates. They weren’t just wonderful pets, they were my best friends. My then-young children tortured them, and yet they took it all in stride and came back for more abuse! Of course the kids were too little to hurt the dogs in any way. And when the Labs got old and infirm, the same kids (now older) nursed them until the end.
Great dog for dove and duck hunters! I’ve got one and she was very easy to train.
My beagle is good for duck hunting too.

Just got a black lab seeing eye dog. Very different from my previous guide, a german shepherd. Hyper affectionate, still very much a puppy. Loves to work, loves to play, loves to cuddle. He takes tremendous care to not repeat mistakes. Super goofy..
I have had 5 Labs . My last one Bella Star passed away in Oct . I love these dogs they are wonderful companions. The one problem with them is they love everyone and can go off with someone. I have lost 2 that way. Bella lived to be almost 12. I was elderly and poor health most her life so she didn't get do some off the things they love . I only had her in the water once. My first Lab was trained for duck hunting and she was a great retriever.

Just adopted a mixed breed lab and aspin (Philippine native dog) and named her Kitty. Her mom is half aspin half lab and her dad is a pure lab. She's a black lab with with white spots in her feet that looked like socks. Kitty is so charismatic and very behave. Fell in love on the first day. ❤️

I was blessed to have my yellow lab Bandit for close to 15 years. He truly loved humans more then anything (besides swimming & treats)😉. Even if you were a complete stranger he would greet you like a long time pal.

I had a Labrador/Rottweiler mix for 13 years and she was the sweetest friend anyone could ask for. She slept on the floor beside my bed every day after I adopted her and greeted me at the door every time I came home. I’ll probably never have another dog as good as her.
A lot of times Labs dont realize how strong they are and how their size intimidates big and small dogs. they are so gentle yet they are really strong and clumsy so we always exercised caution when children were around

Favorite dog breed EVER! I have a chocolate female now but have owned several in my life. They are loving, easy to train, and very smart. Mine now loves to cuddle. They can be diggers though & definitely need a lot of attention. I’d still never own another breed!

Because of him I survived the worst phase of my life, because of him I turned vegan, because of him I started rescuing and saving innumerable dogs and animals and because of him I opened my Xerxes Farm Sanctuary which is home to many rescued dogs, goats, fishes, ducks, hens and other animals.
I am a better human today only because of my boy Xerxes!! Gone too soon but my heartbeat forever!! He is with my dad in heaven now... And I miss him every second of my life 😣😞💔

Whilst reading the comments my Choc Lab just farted and I think I am going to pass out. I forgive here because she is almost 13 years old and perfectly toilet trained. We only had a very few accidents when she was a puppy. I had a fall at home a few weeks ago and had to call the ambulance to take me to hospital. She was so good when the paramedics arrived to treat my injuries. She just wanted to sit beside me to know I was going to be alright. One of the paramedics even commented that it was obvious that my do really loved me and was devoted to me.
I truly believe that the dog is the best friend you can have and your seems like is one!
I had two beautiful labs,white in colour they were so loyal affectionate,protecting me and my property,they are fabulous and gentle with children,and other animals in the home.They have a lot of energy so must be walked and played with daily they love being part of a family and to me the best dog,they do eat a lot but exercise will help keep weight down.A dogs for life remember that .mine both lived until 14 years and 15 years love love love these pets.

We picked our lab puppy at the shelter. Of all the puppies we tried to play with, none fit , except Paprika. They named her that because she had an attitude. We picked her and renamed her Maggie. She is calm and sweet. We couldn’t ask for a better dog than our lab, Maggie.

We have a fantastic yellow lab named Harley, she's quickly became the center of the family. We love her so much. They say there's 2 kind of Labradors, the english and the american one. I think ours is more of the american breed.
There are those 2 sub varieties; American has a little more “hound” look to it.

My pup just turned 1today April 1,2020 Bubba’s a hand full so strong doesn’t listen to me at all ! But he Loves me, suffered from depression and the dog came into my life and he’s helping me through this difficult time. I went from sitting at home to walk in 3 to 4 miles a day. 1 mile walks at a time. You can’t back out on walking him. He Will go ape shit crazy
But we’re making some memories and I’m glad to have him in my life.

@@Nineteen0five Time does move on. As I have looked at dogs everyday it was last month that I saw a post on FB from a woman in TX that had found a dog. She said she couldn't keep it because it had issues with her alpha female. She said she would keep it 2 wks and if no one wanted her she would turn her over to the pound. I didn't think much of it at the time because she posted wonderful pics of this pup swimming in her beautiful built in swimming pool. Nonetheless 2 weeks went by and she posted that the county had come and gotten her. She said that she would post the listing from the pound and God knows when she did the pound intake photo spoke to me. It was horrible to see just what that difference made to a dog. I was horrified and knew then that I would save this dog. I'm only sharing this with you because it is so crazy on my part, but rewarding. I called the Harris Co. pound and they said that I could only put a hold on her in person. Fast fwd...fly to Houston and sign the papers. They would not release her until she was spayed. I begged if they got assurance from my vet of 30 years would they make an exception and the answer was no. So fly home and wait for them to schedule her to be spayed. They stated the next Friday would be the day so dummy me bought another airline ticket and what happened - on Wed they called and said surgery was postponed because she had kennel cough. I thought well I guess I have to wait until they say she's ready, but you know how expensive those last minute airline tickets can be. Not to mention when they call and say she's ready you only have 2 days to get her or she goes back into genpop and could be adopted by anyone. The good news - they called on Wed said she was ready. I begged them to hold her until Saturday and the answer was again no, so I rolled the dice. Flew back to Houston on Saturday rented a truck picked her up and drove home. I will give kuddos to the Bissell Foundation because they were having a program that they paid for the adoption. So I just donated the adoption money back to Harris Co.Pet Services. And I felt really special when the man who did the paperwork said that of all the interests from out of state I was the only one that came back. I still think that I may be too old and of course she can never replace Leatle, but she's mine and I will give her the best life that I can and in the event she will be provided for.
