Pulled the late model flathead out of my 1939 Ford truck. It has Merc heads on it but that doesn't help to find out what crank you have in it. We dropped the oil pan and used the two measuring suggestions and Both confirmed it has a Mercury crank. THANK YOU for posting this!

Was the audio better? I tried equalizing the audio to the voice this time

I know this is an older video but that was great information. One question I do have is I'm going to be putting a Merc crank in my 8BA but I was told it has to be a certain Merc crank because the car is a ford-o-matic, any thoughts?

Thank you for watching! Ford O Matic is the transmission, shouldn’t have anything to do with the crank that you put in the motor, as long as you use the later Merc crank then you’re good to go, putting in a early Merc crank wouldn’t do you any good anyways, I would suggest the exact one I have in this video

An aside, the 49-53 Ford & Merc cranks use "insert"bearings. The earlier 39-48 cranks used a "full Floating" rod bearings with material on both sides of the shell. Of course, you already knew that cuz you dis-assembled it. I have a set of unused rod bearings in 'std' size. Had them since the late 50s.

That’s correct! I am notorious for putting 8BA internals in the 59s. And that’s awesome! Are they still in the box? I have various NOS parts on the shelf in their original boxes, it’s almost hard to use them when they look so cool on display

The crank shown has only one oil hole on the throws, so it is for floating bearings, and could not be a Merc crank.

That’s correct, if you watch it through I explain that it’s not and just using it for an example for the explanation

@@WiredCustomsSpeedShop Not a criticism, my friend, just another way to eliminate such cranks. Thank you so much for this video and hope it will aid many Ford V8 lovers. I am now past the point where I can do such things but enjoy the work of those who can.
