    I've done Leicester - Manchester (and back), I got CrossCountry to Nuneaton and then from Nuneaton to Manchester with Avanti (and the same in reverse on the way back) and I found that fairly easy.

    Thanks for the video, I'm Glad you got to Leicester in the end!
    My only truly disastrous rail journey involved Leicester and Sheffield many years ago, it was back in BR days and I was a student on my way back to Leeds from a weekend in Leicester on a Sunday night. The original train was cancelled and I ended up at Sheffield around 2300 and the last train to Leeds had also been cancelled so with no money for a hotel I slept on a bench at Sheffield station. I was woken up at about 0530 by a staff member telling me "you can't sleep there" and threatening me with the police. I caught the first train to Leeds cursing the railway and all its works!
    But despite that I still love rail travel and have fortunately never been stranded like that again.

    One journey with: one cancellation, one late arrival, one failed train and two short formed trains (uncomfortably packed). Sometimes it's difficult to sell the idea of train travel in the UK to someone who is not already an enthusiast. Thanks to your matter-of-fact delivery, I think you have taken the drama out of this in a positive way. However, a family with kids and luggage would be less sanguine, I think. Great content though 😂

    Hopefully you'll get some Delay Repay. I use EMR once or twice a week to start my days out (I'm retired) and usually end up with one or two claims a month or having to rush to make connections at Derby/EM Parkway/Nottingham. The overcrowding is also a constant challenge but at least the 222s have had an internal refresh.

    I live in South of ST Helen's which is about 15min walk from Lea Green and about 15min drive from N-T- Willows

    There is also a free bus between Victoria and Piccadilly but I don't think you would have made your connection with the time you had.
    Thanks again for a super video

    Great video, I've gone between Manchester to Leicester several times and it isn't the easiest route to travel on but it's nice to see the 222s 😀 although first class looks quite different to standard class, must have been nice not to have had to deal with the overcrowding in standard class 😂

    If only there was some sort of rapid transit system across Manchester between the railway stations, like a Tram.....oh there is, but its quicker to walk! At least you had lots of alternative services and frequent enough alternatives. You normally get stranded when the only train with a viable connection gets cancelled! My brother often commutes from Hemel Hempstead to Chiswick - every time I speak to him on the phone he's always complaining that every single journey he makes has a serious problem!

    You'd have probably been better going to Leeds on the first TPE train, and then get a train from Leeds to Sheffield.
    Manchester Piccadilly is that bad of a station

    Enjoyed your presentation ,but please plan your chats between takes to use another intro other than so. I lost count of the times you used it . I know you are not a professional, but your presentations will be much more slick by using alternative introductions. This is just a word of advice to ensure the continuing success of your TH-cam presence. Good luck.

    It's about time East Midlands started using the Meridians on the Liverpool services to give extra capacity. For years now it's standing room only if you catch the train at Manchester. 11:40

    • @RorysTravels
      @RorysTravels  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Unfortunately I think EMR are getting rid of their meridians next year. Such a shame that couldn’t transfer them onto more regional routes which need the extra capacity!

    • @mattevans4377
      @mattevans4377 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Better yet, order more 810s to run the service

      @@mattevans4377 Nope, there is plan to use 2,3,4 cars 170's on this route instead 158's (but I've seen 6 car formations on test one day - so who know?)

    You want to try if you haven’t done so already getting on at Derby with cross country to Plymouth a unique services travelling a four car service from Edinburgh with standing room only double book seats and countless luggage . they got rid of their passengers Trains HST sent them to Mexico because they like to see people squirm now on their not fit for purpose service ☹️

    Well there's a thing!
    Quite the _cinema verité_ style of video in this one.
    Understandable that the unsettling discombobulation you were faced with seriously affected the usual quality of presentation, yet if I may say, it led to a good four minutes of a little too much you and your problems and not even a single shot of places passed en route.
    Normal service was resumed about eight minutes in, so all was not lost and we got to enjoy snippets of the usual fayre until darkness put paid to the that.
    One to chalk up to experience, eh‽
    Next time, I hope that you'll have learned that no matter what, the show must go on and you should do your darnedest to still film out of the windows (overcrowding permitting) so that we armchair critics still get to see more of the world going by and a little less of our host's world collapsing around him. Courage mon brave!
    Thank you and on to the next.

      Thank you for your comment, it was certainly interesting to read 😂 I guess every video is different and this one was really to document the chaos of travelling on British trains. Don’t worry, normal scenic journeys should return next week!!!
