  • On this episode I finally bring the 5.3 LS in my 1966 C10 to life! Sounds pretty mean with just straight headers for now. Today I will go over all the steps I had to do to make it finally happen. In this video I tackle everything since dropping the LS in the C10... wiring, shift linkage, MSD plug wires, headers, Holley fuel pump, PCM, new wire harness, gauge modules, DBW pedals, and more!

    👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Well done Mr. Travis.. I thought of doing ls but I'm going carbureted old school. 62 c10 Big Back Window Fleetside Shortbed with 400 small block th 400 tranny that came from a 78 GMC RV with 74,000 mikes. 61 Apache 10 Big Back Window Stepside 396 big block from a 68 Chevelle bored 30 over new guts and a 750 double pumper. So much fun ahead on my projects. Just getting started. Chevrolet all the way Bro. Keep em coming. We are all learning together. Thanks for sharing... Truck Driver Ray ✝️ 👌 😎

      Sounds like you got some cool projects man! My 305 was a 140hp when brand new, that is what pushed me to the LS vs the rebuild option lol. I appreciate the support, thank you so much for watching.

    Man great videos! Mine is a 64. I've discovered that a major wiring job under the dash you're better off taking off steering wheel,cluster and seat. Take it from a old man😎👍 our hoods are high enough that I ran my cold air pipe over the alternator. Very cool build!

      Hey thank you for watching Ron! I wish I had taken the seat out, next time I will, would have been so much easier to position myself than wedging down in there lol. I have since been able to get the CAI to fit by cutting one up, but that's rad you got one over top, I didn't think there was enough space.

    I suggest mounting knock sensors on outside of the heads. What's the part # for that lower radiator hose? You may get some ideas from my 65 c10

    • @CLASSICSAREBETTER
      @CLASSICSAREBETTER  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      How do you mount the knock sensor to the outside of the motor? I have never heard of that.
      The lower rad hose I used was from Autozone, Dayco Flex Hose 81331

      There are videos on it, but they don't give enough info, if you decide to relocate them I can tell you what to get to do it, it's for us lazy guys who don't want to pull the intake off when the knock sensor goes out@@CLASSICSAREBETTER

    I'm so stoked for you Travis! So did you adapt the existing hard lines to an fittings? Also what driveshaft did you end up using?

    • @CLASSICSAREBETTER
      @CLASSICSAREBETTER  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks bro! I ended up replacing all the fuel & transmission lines with steel braided black nylon line with AN fittings. The AN fittings are great and the nylon looks good, but the black nylon is a huge pain in the butt. You have to cut it with a cut off wheel and clear with air, which made stuff like splicing in the fuel filter and pump a huge pain vs just normal hose. On driveshaft I just measured and had a local driveshaft company make me one, think is was approx $370. Can't wait to see updates on your C10!

    • @diversedad7954
      @diversedad7954 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CLASSICSAREBETTER I used AN stuff on my CRX. I actually did a video on my channel 2yrs ago on how to use AN fittings. They are pricey and a little more work but it's for sure a better way of doing things. I honestly would much rather do AN stuff than using hardline and flares!

    What did you use as far as harness? And how did you bypass the vats? Looking to do this to my 65 as well

    • @CLASSICSAREBETTER
      @CLASSICSAREBETTER  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I got the harness from Caesars Performance on Ebaymotors, its actually under $100 now, been working just fine, came with PCI instructions lol. Has everything except an oil pressure line. Just make sure you get the correct colored connectors for your PCM. For VATS, I paid a buddy to delete it using the HP Tuners program. Thanks for watching man, best of luck on your truck!

      I got it from ebay, it's actually even cheaper now. It has worked great so far, only sensor it didn't come with was oil pressure, so you just have to run that separately, but for $100 it's awesome and came with PSI's instructions lol.

    What was the problem initially

    • @CLASSICSAREBETTER
      @CLASSICSAREBETTER  ปีที่แล้ว

      Initially the issue was that the VATS system was stopping me due to no exhaust etc and also the security system had me locked out since I had the 66 C10 key and ignition, not the one out of the Suburban. Luckily my buddy had HP Tuners which let's you erase stuff like that.
