Pico! I'm from Sao Mateus, born and raised until we left for Canada in 1968. I speak to family everyday in Pico and Faial and long to return in the near future, possibly to retire there. Pico, my heart still belongs with you!
Hi, Rahel. I actually had to watch the video twice to take it all in. You have an impressive compassion for all living things in your home, even the cockroaches and the ants. I don't think cockroaches and ants have ever felt so welcome. Your kindly invitation to tag along was appreciated. This was the first video where we could clearly see you and that was very good, too.
Hey Douglas. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch this video twice, for appreciating my efforts to invite you into my life and for acknowledging my compassion for all living things. I believe every living being has its place here on this earth and we are meant to find ways to exist alongside each other. I hope you are enjoying some beautiful summer days ☀️
I am writing in my diary about how fortunate I am. Jonah my grandson will continue when I am gone. Life is indeed a adventure. Helga is doing well and she is back to her old self. She wants to be the Queen of the mountain. Nancy and I love to go fishing and after I clean our catch we have dinner. I was taught to live off of the land by my Grandfather. He was a wonderful man. He put the love of nature into my heart. He was diagnosed with Lung cancer. I was nine when he passed away. Manuel Almeida was the best. He would be proud of me. Whenever we have sad days it is best to be kind to yourself. Do something positive! I am happy and grateful for what I have now.
This post might be a little long so I apologize in advance. I enjoyed your last video on many, many levels and for many different reasons . But one abstract reason might give you some insight into why I enjoyed it so much and why I feel your viewers are now commenting about "your work improving"! I love the mind boggling, counter intuitive aspects of Quantum physics and how theoretically something can exist in two places simultaneously One can approach this "theory" in many ways---- physically, theoretically, metaphorically, etc, etc. Now, as relates to your last video---- Your last video was so well done that while I was sitting here in Kona Hawaii, smack dab in the middle of the Pacific Ocean I was also enjoying a beautiful afternoon on Pico Island in the Eastern Atlantic---two places simultaneously Your video produced for me "Life in the metaverse"!
This feels very special. To read that you experienced the sensation of being transported to Pico while watching my video is such a big compliment. I did put in so much effort to create something which makes you feel like you are right there with me and to know now that it has worked for you feels so rewarding. Thank you for sharing 🙏
How wonderful that you are able to enjoy this island together with your family, Denisia. Thank you for sharing that you love my videos, it means a lot. Best wishes to you and your family!
One of my favorites! I felt as if I just got a mini vacation on Pico and as usual the videography was just fantastic. We just had a house guest visiting with us here in Kona and had to warn her on day 1 about flying B-52’s (large flying roaches). I hide in the bathroom until my wife chases them out! lol
Haha Dorn 😂 Sounds like Mandy is the true hero of the flying roaches! It makes me very happy that you felt transported to Pico through my video. It was wonderful that have you here even if it was only for 11minutes 🙃
Hello Rahel, what a lovely surprise. It is so good to see Muriel up and about. Thank you for taking us along on your drive. I think this is the first time you have shown so many populated areas in your video. I really enjoyed the virtual drive through the island seeing human communities interspersed among nature. The music you chose was wonderful. thank you for sharing about the realities of living on the island. FYI: I had a friend some years ago who was in Peace Corps in Cameroon, Africa. He and his roommates quickly learned to keep their dining table legs in buckets of oil to keep the ants from invading their table and food. I also understand that in Africa, people spread ashes (from burning wood and stuff) around their houses to keep the ants from invading their homes. We have some ants here in my house too, because we don't use chemicals to clean nor kill insects. So, we place cat food in the center of water-filled lids which serve as "moats" to keep ants away. Although, if the ants fly, none of these would be any good. It was very kind of you to stay with the cows to keep them calm while they got stuck in your special woods. Hopefully, the farmer found other cool places for them to be. Stay cool. Hugs, Eve
Hello Eve, you are most welcome. You are right, I have never shown so many populated areas or filmed a drive along the coast of the island in that way. I'm glad you enjoyed the virtual drive and the music. Thank you so much for all the non-chemical tips to keep the ants from invading the house. The farmer rescued his cows and transferred them to another place the next day, I'm pretty sure they might get into more trouble as soon as they get bored again, after all they are teenagers 🙃
@@RahelStadler Ha, ha. Cows are wonderful. I used to be terrified of them as a little girl. But now, watching so many wonderful videos of them on youtube, I think they are wonderful. If you are ever up for a little story about cows, my favorite children's author, Patricia MacLachlan wrote this Christmas book titled, "The True Gift."
Hallo liebe Rahel.
Thank you for sharing your sentiments about this part of the island. How lovely that you have such a heartfelt connection with Santo Amaro and that you cherish the view of São Jorge, it definitely has a special feel to it. I hope you are doing well and I'm sending some island calmness your way ☀️
Everything you capture with your little camera is simply magical. Wonderful impressions of our unique islands. I will be taking part in the Atlantis Cup Regatta at the end of July/beginning of August. Unfortunately we will only be passing Pico. Best regards from Vila Franca do Campo
It is wonderful to read from you, Thomas. Thank you for your kind words, I'm glad you still enjoy my videos. I wish you the most amazing time taking part in the Atlantis Cup Regatta and I certainly will be waving to you from Pico when you pass by 😊
We share a similar scenery and although we are very far apart, the feeling of tranquility is the same. In the Okanagan Valley where I live, there’s a bit everything for everyone from the desert to the forest to the sea. Summers get busy because of tourists who visit the vineyards that surround us. Your summer people influx is the same as ours. This video brought home the realization that although I miss the lazy summers we spent on the island of Faial, it’s equally as nice here. From where our home sits, I can see four communities along the beautifully large Okanagan Lake. Our climate is similar to yours during winter months. If there’s a snowfall in the valley, it doesn’t last long, maybe a day. Drive five minutes up to the highest elevation in the area (1745m) and you encounter blizzard conditions with lots of snow and poor visibility. Life on the islands is more relaxed, just like it is here on the Gulf Islands. There’s less to distract us and more to focus on with the beauty that surrounds us both. I can’t live in the city, it’s too busy and noisy and distant. But, when I need something, it’s only a short drive away. Isolation has its perks, but it also has its drawbacks. The perks being that we have time to listen to ourselves, to listen to nature, to be creative and enjoy the bounty of self preserving beauty we’ve been gifted on this earth. It’s all about perspective, isn’t it?
Alice, what a beautiful message 💛 Thank you for sharing a little bit about where you live and opening my eyes for a part of the world I have never heard of before. Your description sounded so beautiful that I started googling it and wow, you live in such a special place! It is so wonderful to read that you are appreciating the beauty which surrounds you even though it might not be Faial Island. You are very right, isolation has its perks and its drawbacks and it is very much about perspective, priorities and personal life circumstances/choices. It feels really refreshing to know that you can relate and that you see island life for what it is without romanticizing it. I'm glad you are here. Sending my warmest wishes from Pico Island to Okanagan Valley 😊💛

Hello Manuel. Thank you for noticing and appreciating the development of my work. I know the bay of São Caetano and the coastal road which leads to São Mateus. I will certainly keep it in mind for my future videos. What a wonderful village to be raised in. Sending you warmest wishes from your home island!
PS, you are such a natural, amazing filmmaker. Your capture of hydrangeas and other flowers is just wonderful. some of the roads that you traveled on seemed so narrow. What do you guys do if another car comes from the opposite side, especially with all the turns and twists in the narrow roads? Hugs, Eve
Thank you for this kind compliment, Eve. People here don't drive as big cars as they do in the States, most of the time two cars can easily pass each other, maybe one of them has to stop or if its too narrow people might drive into the grass next to the road to get out of the way.
@@RahelStadler I hear you. When I first came to the USA in 1977, I was stunned looking at all the gigantic cars which I never saw in Poland. American cars are still gigantic. Little cars are much more practical on roads like Pico's. Have a wonderful, cool week.
