Hello everyone. I hope this little video finds you well. I apologize for my absence these last couple of weeks, it was just too hot and I didn't feel capable of creating anything. Currently I choose to spend most days in my wild garden and my simple home while giving myself permission to slow down life and to simply just be, so that's what I'm sharing in todays video. I used to live for summers but this year I feel like hibernating. It is currently unusually hot and also quite busy here on the island. For the past two months now we haven't had any proper rain or thunderstorms and today I measured 42 degrees Celsius which is so unlike the climate we are used to. I miss the island winds, its absence in combination with the heat and high humidity is debilitating and makes me feel overstimulated and drained. Slowing down und stepping away from everything which isn't necessary right now is like a breath of fresh air and helps me to create a certain peacefulness. In addition to that: taking away the pressure and embracing the fact that I have not much capacity right now, be it creatively, mentally and physically is so refreshing. I hope that you are able to enjoy the summer you are having or at least allow yourself to make life a bit easier during this season. I'm sending lots of love and peacefulness your way. Rahel
Hello Rahel, thank you for sharing your home with us. I am so, so very sorry that it is so hot on the island and no storms, no wind. YIKES!!!! This reminds me to be grateful for the many comforts that I have. Most people on the islands and even in Europe have no AC and suffer through the hot days. YIKES! I sincerely hope that the weather will change, that somehow, someway, some cooler weather will come your way and that the tourists will go away and that you will have some peace and quiet at last. Thinking of you.
Hello Eve, thank you for appreciating me sharing my home, for expressing your sincere sympathy and for validating my sentiments regarding extreme summer heat. I have never been a big fan of AC since, like you say, we are not used to having it in our homes here in Europe but I now do wish I had the option to just press a button and have a cool space to retreat to. It is full moon today and normally the weather pattern is changing afterwards, so I'm hopeful that we might get some wind soon. I hope you are having a more pleasant summer experience, sending my warmest wishes to you!
@@RahelStadler thank you for your reply. I absolutely hear you. I sure hope that the full moon changed the weather pattern, that you got a reprieve from this heat.
Hallo Rahel. Dein Video, mal wieder sehr gelungen.
Hi, Rahel. Your feelings about the heat pretty much mirror my own, especially because it interferes with my sleep. I'm really looking forward to a change. Thanks for showing us Pico and how you adapt.
I am on main island and find the heat and humidity awful. I am about to move to pico and I’m scared if it is like this again next year. I know I can’t exercise and if I can’t exercise I feel low and stuck in my body. So we have to adapt some how x thank you for you kindness
@KathrynBraithwaite-oj3zc Hello Kathryn. I feel you. I'm afraid that on Pico the humidity might be even worse than on São Miguel because we have the mountain where all the clouds get stuck, but I sincerely hope that you perceive the climate here more pleasant. I wish you all the best for your move!
Building a house and building a dream are two separate things. I sketched the blue prints and began putting our dream house together. Once Nancy and I were finished we celebrated. She is a work horse. She worked as hard as any man could. She helped out when I got Gout. That was painful! She is a artist as well. Having a home is very special when it is with the special person that makes you happy. Life is short so remember the Good times while you can.
@@RahelStadler That's nice for you and you'll apreciate it for months as you said.... I'm happy that at least one of us appreciated the heat and genuinely enjoyed the summer. Weather is such an individual thing. I wish you a wonderful weekend, Phil.
Nice video. If I could send you some rain from Stavanger to cool things off, I would! It's been very wet here lately. Please send us some of your sunshine, we badly need it ... 🤭🤭
Hello Rahel, so it has been 9 years in the Azores already? I used to live in Canary Islands. Now, I wish I could leave the place I got back to, cause I do not fit here. I watched several of your videos. I like your narrative very much. I can relate to it.
Hello Martin. Yes, I have been here on Pico since 2015. I'm glad you enjoy my narrative and can relate. I wish for you that you choose yourself enough to where you can change your life in way so you feel a sense of belonging. Sending a big portion of island peacefulness your way.
Hello Rahel, I am just curious, does it get cooler and less humid in the evening, through the night and in the early morning hours? I hope so. Here, in Miami, even though the temperatures drop a few degrees at night, they are still high and the humidity increases, making it hot/humid 24/7 and even in rain times. YIKES!
Hello Eve. It is cooler and much more pleasant between 10pm and 7am. Though those of us who have old house aren't able to enjoy it unless we are sleeping outside. The old stone houses retain the heat like crazy so at night it currently has around 29 C inside our house.
@@RahelStadler I hear you. That's what happens here in this 60 year old house that I live in. I know that many people in ancient times used to sleep on the roofs of their homes or on the balconies (see Alfred Hitchcock movie, "Rear view window"). after our last hurricane, when we lost electricity, I used to try to sleep outside on a hammock because of the heat inside.
I am in the process of getting ready to visit sao Miguel in winter ,Jan or feb,can you tell me how bad the mosquitos get in the fall and winter ???also do ticks present a problem ???ty in advance for any input .
Hello Steve. Unfortunately I cannot tell you if the mosquitoes are bad in fall/winter in São Miguel. I live on Pico and here it depends very much on where on the island you live if you have to deal with mosquitoes or not. Generally though it shouldn't be a big issue. As far as I know there are no ticks on the Azores. I wouldn't be too concerned about any animals here. Enjoy your travels! Best wishes from the islands.
