Used to not care about MR at all, but after I started noodling with Unreal Engine I'm starting to see how it could be really cool in many ways. I want to make a little MR RC car I can drive around on my floor and furniture etc.
I was always all in on mixed reality. Even the B/W passthrough on quest 2 sometimes its nice just to sit back in a comfy chair and just look at 3 big browser windows in space whilst being able to see the real world around you. I normally try to have passthrough as the default instead of the quest home. Its only going to be better in colour in high res
I couldn't agree more, I use that feature allot on my Quest 2 even with the black n white distorted video. I use my quest everyday for video media more than my phone and iPad combined. So with Quest 3 it's passthrough and AR will be even more amazing!

Your hype for mixed reality sounds real. I've been meh about it too, and I'm still not sure it will be more than that, but if I never get into it, I'm glad the tech is moving along to bring this to the people who are excited for and want it.
I can imagine, more than one Quest 3 owner being able to share or enter each other's mixed reality spaces. For example, if I were to be at a friend's house and we both had a Quest 3, I could accept an invite of sorts to their setup, and in turn, see how they might have their virtual space set up around their house. Of course, that is one example of what you could probably do with AR\MR, but the applications are crazy to think about. And as the tech becomes smaller and more portable, it has the potential to be even greater.
mixed reality is fascinating but vr is still getting going 7-8 years in and with MR it feels like starting all over again -I'm still waiting for VR to get where it needs to be before I even begin to get excited about MR

I think the Vision Pro is going to set a very high bar for pass through quality (and it should at that price). Probably the headset I've been most excited to try in years. I know it's not going to be a gaming headset, but for work and entertainment I suspect it'll truly be next level.
As you mention, I definitely think MR is important for new users, especially older ones. Anyone with kids or young pets will appreciate being able to keep an eye on their co-dependants while in the virtual experiences and that initial connection to reality helps ease folk in and gives them some confidence they probably don't in a fully virtual environment. The main thing it was missing up until now (outside of decent resolution on the external cameras) was that depth sensor: no way it was going anywhere while we still had to manually map stuff out :P
I’m excited to check out some cool MR games. It’ll be even more exciting when Meta adds dynamic occlusion this year, which I’m both surprised and bummed that it apparently won’t be available at launch. And I expect Meta to be constantly improving the passthrough through updates.

gotta say the MR stuff does look pretty good and my hype is rising. the thing that will hold me back is the ability to capture and stream it which hopefully they have taken that into account
Your last point was 100% why mixed reality is so much better. Putting on a headset without passthrough is often uncomfortable and weird the first time, but if you can see everything in the room its much cooler and a safer first impression.
I guess META had to change AR to MR, cause the M makes it easier to convert too MetaReality..? 🤔 N e ways, great vid! BUT, I am sad to see that what we have been shown on youtube and all is not what you actually see in the headset ... it is much... grainy. It does the job beautifully when you are in the game, but can not read on my phone or read a book as we were told we could... so mixed feeling for the mixed reality Does other have the same experience?
I think the problem with MR is summed up by what Zuck said. "You'll be able to hide behind your actual sofa" And my thought was, well no, I won't, because most people in the UK dont have space behind their sofa. Thats a wall! They barely have enough space for a 1.5x1.5m playspace. There are probably a lot of people who don't even have a table they can sit around. So i think there will be a big variety to the quality of the experience you will be able to get from MR, and it will depend on where you can play. I worry that an MR game mode like the one from the cabin is going to be terrible in a small room. And in a time where more and more people are maybe sitting down to play VR because at the end of the day Active VR can be exhausting, MR could actually reduce the number of people getting a "wow that's amazing experience.' And then, you are adding a whole extra dimension of untestable potential jank. Where games are developed in ideal spaces, but have to cope with unfathomable amount of variety in people's homes. And then do you want kids having nightmares of zombies in their actual real home? And finally, do we really want another 3 years of tech demos? Still, maybe it will be great! ❤ Fingers crossed.
I have no interest in passthrough for gaming. roomscale / static games / wave shooters etc FAILED already in VR to produce compelling experiences. The gimmick of replacing the background with your room does not really change anything. Using multiple headsets to play the same game maybe could be interesting , but it is such a niche use case it will not get developer support. Sorry to be negative. BUT this is the WRONG direction. Proper AAA games in VR is what MOST people want IMO. Carmack was absolutely right in his recent comments.
Hi GT, can you tell me if I need a new account for quest 3,i have a quest 2, or do I peer my app to my quest 3 and download the games from quest 2, regards, Phil
Why oh why isnt the Monopoly game that wa in Oculus home way back in the Phone in a box days isnt that a thing anymore. What a fantastic table top game it was. Very cut throat and great to chat and laugh around the table. If anything should be a M/R VR game it is that for sure. It just worked and you could have music on or visit a video sphere nuy it was the game itself that blew my mind. I used to play for hours with friends and my kids and when the game ended it was always past their bedtime but the call was always shall we just have one more game. Sad face.
Exactly, we don't need crazy AAA games for mr. Just bring today's games and oldies in and I greentree it will be a smash. Can you imagine battleship in Mr with another player in the room. Or Operation at room scale. Or Jenga. It could be endless.
is anyone having problems reading text with the passthrough? Meta Quest 3 passthrough phone reading quality is terrible in mine I have to take the headset off every time I want to read something, for sure this is not normal right?. But the VR menus and games look great.
Passthrough on the Quest 3 is total ass even in a well lit room, it only took five minutes of using mixed reality to get a massive headache due to the graininess of the resolution. I will be returning mine as Meta totally put out false advertising.
Im honestly excited for the Quest 3 because of the Pancake lenses which i havent gotten to try even on the pro yet but still that combined with just over all way better visuals plus almost perfect Passthrough and a much slimmer design that can potentially do full body tracking im excited for all of it ande absolutely cant wait for it to get here Not to mention the improved Wifi capabilities.
I just got my Quest 3, I’m honestly very disappointed by the pass through. I have a lot of natural lighting in my room, and this crap still looks barely higher res than the quest 2, but in color. That’s it. It’s low res, it’s grainy, it’s distorted, dissapointment
I think Meta is going away from PCVR and will always be behind. Now I am looking for to a real good PCVR headset and hope for the deckard for next year. They need to start pushing PCVR only games for VR to have a future and people can take it seriously.
Hey GT, really excited to see what the Q3 is going to deliver. Quick question, I have pre-ordered the Q3 but want to keep my Q2 to play some of the graphically simpler games on. Can I use the same Meta account on both to access my library or would I need to log out on Q2 to play on Q3 and then vice versa?
Where are the MR games? 500 bucks for an MR headeset with little demo experiences. Hard pass. VR is where it's at. Don't waste your money on half baked mini AR experiences.
Ok but here me out. A VR game that uses the depth sensor to map out a large play space. maybe the whole first story of your house (or more 🤔) and dynamically makes a map for the game with walls that match up with your walls IRL. could even find a way to integrate tables and chairs as more barriers and whatnot. I feel as though with the rise of AI this might start being more and more possible.
Gutted! Passthrough is TERRIBLE! Such a shame, because the mixed reality demo (shooting up your room walls and monsters) is great. A clear resolution would have been great.

And finally, do we really want another 3 years of tech demos?
Still, maybe it will be great! ❤ Fingers crossed.
Hey man how you been💯
My experience has been, brighter lighting better results aha
Hoping I can do some mixed reality flight simming aha
These can and should replace laser tag.
Im super curious about lego, i really want that to be good!
ISO is something very few talk about
I have no interest in passthrough for gaming.
roomscale / static games / wave shooters etc FAILED already in VR to produce compelling experiences.
Contractors codz mods is fun alone but imagine cod zombies in mixed reality that would be dope
Hi GT, can you tell me if I need a new account for quest 3,i have a quest 2, or do I peer my app to my quest 3 and download the games from quest 2, regards, Phil
Thanks GT.
I want it, even though I know it will collect dust after a week 🤔
@Gamertagvr4 what did I win
@kennethwilliams9668 Nothing at all. It's a scam bot. Hopefully the process to remove it is in motion.
@@sirrealdealz thanks
Looking forward to the MR side of things.
bro has a quest 3 already in the back. lucky foo 😅
is anyone having problems reading text with the passthrough? Meta Quest 3 passthrough phone reading quality is terrible in mine I have to take the headset off every time I want to read something, for sure this is not normal right?. But the VR menus and games look great.
Mixed reality is gonna be so sick
Passthrough on the Quest 3 is total ass even in a well lit room, it only took five minutes of using mixed reality to get a massive headache due to the graininess of the resolution. I will be returning mine as Meta totally put out false advertising.
people are shocked by the price instead
🎉🎉🎉🎉call of duty-MR helllllllllll Yeahhhhhhh - Yugioh- MR Hellllllllllllllll yeahhhhhhhhh🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hmm that is disappointing for sure@@FoxyEntity
Mark: august 10,, 😳😳😳
I think Meta is going away from PCVR and will always be behind. Now I am looking for to a real good PCVR headset and hope for the deckard for next year. They need to start pushing PCVR only games for VR to have a future and people can take it seriously.
Tentacles...hentai? Oh no no wrong tech video
Excellent video
Hey GT, really excited to see what the Q3 is going to deliver. Quick question, I have pre-ordered the Q3 but want to keep my Q2 to play some of the graphically simpler games on. Can I use the same Meta account on both to access my library or would I need to log out on Q2 to play on Q3 and then vice versa?
I use quest 1 and 2 on the same account so would assume it would be the same with the 2 and 3.
Thanks for the reply mate, should be ok then by the sounds of it. Roll on Tuesday!
Just give me a mixed reality waifu
Where are the MR games? 500 bucks for an MR headeset with little demo experiences. Hard pass. VR is where it's at. Don't waste your money on half baked mini AR experiences.
This is not new tech 😂 but meta fans will act like they never seen anything like it..
Mixed Reality has one big problem: You feel miserable how untidy your room is if you actually use it as a playroom. 😏
POV: You're a Slob. (Free new mixed reality game)
Clean up u dirtbag
Getting closer and closer to living in The Matrix next we need to become cyborgs and plug our selves in with cables.
MR is like inception; a gimmick on top of a gimmick. I cant't believe this garbage is being pushed as a selling point.
👌
Ok but here me out. A VR game that uses the depth sensor to map out a large play space. maybe the whole first story of your house (or more 🤔) and dynamically makes a map for the game with walls that match up with your walls IRL. could even find a way to integrate tables and chairs as more barriers and whatnot. I feel as though with the rise of AI this might start being more and more possible.
Gutted! Passthrough is TERRIBLE! Such a shame, because the mixed reality demo (shooting up your room walls and monsters) is great. A clear resolution would have been great.
