H264 > HEVC > AV1 from fastest to slowest in terms of latency (due to decoding latency increasing per step to the right), also in order from least efficient to most efficient in terms of quality per bitrate chosen. Basically setting a game to 120fps/hz + H264 will still be the lowest-latency option for most, but depending on your setup that will cost you some visual artifacts/quality.

Meta totally screwed us over with quest pro. The only benefit quest pro has is fov rendering, local dimming, independent tracking controllers and charging dock. But in reality FOV rendering is still not as good as native quest 3, much better FOV rendering on my PSVR2, local dimming is ok but bright objects on dark background will cause halo effect..controllers were crazy good...but quest pro lacks the resolution. I could never get over SD effect.
I also bought it day 1..full EU price:( 2 weeks later the price dropped significantly due to poor sales.
Ended up selling it for 500 bucks...
Now I have Q3 and it is hands down the best headset I have ever owned. Better than my PSVR2 which had A LOT of issues (dead pixels, mismatched OLED panels, defects in lenses, dust under lens...).
Coupled with a PC something like Ryzen 7800x3D and 4070 and the results are mind blowing.

I finally got my Quest 3 five hours ago and got it fully charged, updated with all apps installed. The passthrough is unreal and to me, is worth the upgrade just for that one feature alone. The comfort of the headset is a major plus, and I might be the only person on the planet who finds the stock strap uniformly more comfortable than the Elite strap that presses a little uncomfortably on my cheeks right below my eye sockets. I tried adjusting the headset everyway possible but I might end up returning the Elite headstrap. I will continue switching back and forth before making a decision. Anyway, I love the Quest 3 controllers so much more than the Quest 2's. My only real gripe with the Quest 3 is actually the last thing I was expecting to dislike, the resolution. I noticed next to no difference between the Quest 2 and the Quest 3 in resolution. Yes, the pancake lenses are vastly superior with regard to the massive sweet spot and clarity of the lenses themselves with no horrific concentric circles from the Fresnel lenses. But I noticed that since the resolution has been slightly increased the only difference I can see is that surprisingly, the screen door effect is now more pronounced than it was in the Quest 2 headset. I rarely if ever noticed the screen door effect on the Quest 2, but I see it constantly now when I am using the Quest 3. I didn't expect any screen door effect whatsoever, so I am a bit disappointed in this. Anyone else notice the screen door like I do?

I know it must be difficult being a Mera ambassador, but how about touching upon the disastrous launch?
No new games, and only minor to modest graphical updates for titles we've long since completed and grown tired of.
Then MR, which consists of the same games, but playing them through a whole in your wall.
      Finally MR quality itself.
It's dreadful, and 3 other ppl whom I work with agree.
We all don't understand why yourself and other vr influencers seems to have clearer MR. Assuming it's due to you all having film studio lvl lighting.
Obviously this isn't something most ppl have, and I think it was disingenuous showing MR in it's most favourable form, without testing and acknowledging more 'normal / average' lighting conditions

My main concern with the Quest 3 is being able to fully push the display. You have to run a Quest 2 at 5400x2700 to get 1:1 pixel for pixel and the Quest 3 pushes that up to like 7000x3700 which is a pretty tall order even for a 4090, which I do not have unfortunately lol.

Not an OG VR user but I am an OG Quest user from around the beginning of the Quest, and I’ve used every mainline Quest (not the Pro) since they’ve come out, and I’ve gotta say, the Quest 3 absolutely feels like when I put on a VR headset for the first time again. The color passthrough immediately on start made me feel like a kid. I kept the headset on all the way from unboxing and setup to death of the headset right before I left for work and gave my roommate the Quest 2 I had

Yes a huge upgrade from the Quest 2! If you are a Quest Pro owner...for PCVR don't bother. The Pro and 3 look about identical even though the 3 has about 1 million more pixels it's not enough to make a noticeable difference if anyone is curious.

Has anyone done a comparison with mere mortal hardware? Like a 2080 to 3080TI system?
I'm pretty sure having a RTX-4090 makes the biggest difference lol. I mean if your PC can only push like 1600x1600 pixels, the higher resolution isn't helping you nearly as much as it could be, kinda like replacing your 27in 720p monitor with a 32in 1080p while still running it at the same old 720p resolution. The pancake lenses alone might be making a bigger difference as far as visuals, or they could let you see more perceived SDE due to better clarity?
Anyway, I'm still hoping that the WiFi 6E's extra bandwidth can be leveraged through future updates, for better latency.

I just got my Quest 3 and I was hoping to use it with PCVR. Sadly, I cant get the link cable to work at ALL!
My PC oculus app shows there are no issues and the device is working perfectly, but when i try to launch quest link it just gets stuck staring at 3 dots loading. The 1 time i did manage to get it loaded, it was frozen with a bunch of glitches and bugs. I tested my cable out with my quest 2 right after and it worked just fine. Im hoping this is just a software bug. I cant use airlink or virtual desktop (my internet is terrible) so link cable is my only valid option. I really hope this gets fixed soon or someone finds a solution.
    My specs:
    Ryzen 7 7800X3D
RX 7900XT (updated to latest drivers 10/11)
    32GB DDR5 5600
    3TB m.2 ssd
P.S.: I also tried using different ports, but same story. Quest 2 works, Quest 3 doesnt. I also tried reinstalling the oculus pc app. Didnt work. Tried restarting PC and headset. Nothing.

Grate vid... but... I'm having some major issues getting full speed on my Quest 3 using wifi6 network. I'm hoping it's an issue with the firmware.
On my Quest 3 the WIFI signal is hopping from 720 - 864 - 960, but my Quest 2 Is stable at 1200 Mbps. I am sitting 1 m (3 feet) from the Ruter

    • @SteveKnows

@SteveKnows Watching your footage i can see that your wifi coverage is fluxing to. But on 6e its lowest signal is 1700 mbps so won't be noticable. But this is a firmware bug essentially for AX ruters like yours and mine.
      On 5Ghz it's almost useless.
The MAIN issue seems to stem from WiFi AC Bands (WiFi 5) vs. WiFi AX and AXe bands (WiFi 6 and 6e)
There seems to be an issue with all AC bands with the stuttering and issues overall. This issue has been reported to META by Virtual Desktop
Hopefully, Meta will have an update on this soon.

Definitely steam. Any game that you see you might like that is both on meta quest store and on steam, definitely buy the game off of steam because using a computer and the quest 3 at the same time, you get both the leverage of the strong specs of your computer and the specs of the quest 3 which will make the game look much better, perform better, and overall be funner. Unless there is a game exclusive to the meta store, focusing on pcvr would be much smarter to improve QOL

Any large white/bright object produces this glare affect.

I think the display port vs wireless (or wired via USB) debate has now shifted from 'is it as good' to 'do you have a good enough GPU'. You can make it look similar, but to do it you need a fair bit more GPU power to push enough pixels to get the wireless looking as good as the DP equivalent. Probably not an issue on your 4090!
