I was planning on upgrading, because I love the sound of better lenses, but the lack of software/decent games is giving me pause, plus I barely use the Quest2.
@@danw3735 I had the same feelings. Try to find someone that has one so you can try it. I bought Q2 last year (or so). My son had one. I bought a Q3 and it’s much clearer with adjustable IPD (mine is large at 73mm!). It is also more comfortable to wear than Q2 out of the box. I use it more than I did the Q2. Mixed Reality is quite interesting & easy to set-up. I wear glasses so thinking of getting inserts and zyber headstrap & eventually their neck battery. I am 60 yo & into electronics/EE. I plan on giving my daughter my old Q2 so the family can have VRChats no matter where we live.
I've only had my Quest 3 about 2 weeks now, but I'm extremely happy with it. Can't say I've noticed any chromatic aberration, except maybe at the very extreme edges of the lenses with high contrast shapes. I had an Odyssey+ for years, so even on the Quest 3's worst day, it's much clearer than the O+ ever was.
Very cool to see this broken down from the perspective of an opthamologist. I recently upgraded from The Quest 2 to the quest 3 and notice for me a significant increase in clarity. I've been switching back and forth and anytime I go back to my Quest 2, I wonder how I was able to use it for all those years as I had it since launch. It's one of those ignorance is bliss situations because if you don't know any better it's just fine but once you use the quest 3, the Quest 2 is a blurry mess. @DrEyeGuy i really don't understand why no producer says about how to measure the eye distance and I didn't know about it before now. Thanks hugely, because no any TH-camr talking about VR take in serious consideration this and don't explain how important it is. Huge thanks for the video and the free app link. Really! Moreover neither the VR producers give a real tutorial about this to help the user feel more comfortable and just kick the user in the VR experience without giving them a proper tutorial, it's kinda sad and explains a lot why many people don't feel comfortable with VR. Thank you, thank you and THANK YOU.
thanks! this helped a lot! I did the eye pupil thing and shoved my glasses in it and its relatively crystal clear now. Super strange needing glasses in it as a near sighted person but what you described makes sense, my vision gets blurry at about 2-3 feet
You're advice on pupillary distance was perfect, I tried the glasses on app, and then called my vision center to confirm what my pd was, and the glasses on app was spot on, dropped a like 👍
Holy SHit! I can't get over how Incredibly informative and OFFICIAL this vid is. Not some opinionated, Internet/Google expert video like most. I mean even a printable eye chart and Instructions. Seriously appreciate this. Excellent job. I just purchased a Quest3 because i couldnt get a acceptably usable setup with Quest2. Just ended up with strain and headaches 15-20min of use. The Quest3 is a huge jump IMO. Anyway, it was nice to find your video at only my 2nd video on Blurry vision with Meta Quest. Again thank you. All 13:32 were so helpful.
I'm near sighted and didn't think I had to wear my glasses. I just thought VR was slightly blurry, well, I put on my glasses the other day whilst wearing the Quest 3 and wow the clarity. I feel so dumb.
The one thing ive found to help change my focus in vr is to relax and very slightly cross my eyes just until you feel the image double. It sort of resets my brain and whatever im looking at is what it default tries to focus on. Helps alot with menus and things that pop up etc. Also having the center of the display be further away then look towards the object with your eyes first then your head, helps track and bring it into focus rather then your eyes trying to immediately adjust to it.
Thank you, one thing I keep my mind on is making sure I blink, thats always helped me a lot, but the thing id never given a though was the vergance accommodation conflict, It makes total sense, to try and help me with this is while im playing a game, when I get to parts of a game where I get a few seconds I look all around the screen but not focusing on things, this has reduced head aches to almost zero, I also feel my eye muscles have become stronger, as when I first started looking around I would get a little muscle ache, now I get nothing. Thanks again for your time on this video, helped me understand a lot.
I got Quest 3 lenses from VR Rock, only 39 bucks with free shipping. and I gotta say, the quality surpassed my expectations. I'm really happy I went with them.
I noticed with the default strap it wouldn't hold the headset close enough to my face- but if I pushed on the headset a bit and 'snugged it up' text got instantly less blurry. I ended up buying a halo style strap which has eliminated the problem. the default strap is awful, cannot believe they shipped with that.
Thanks for this video. I have no problems so far with my new Quest 3. Video lens quality is very clear and a big improvement over my older Oculus Rift S VR headset. I will keep your suggestions in mind should I do run into blurry problems with the Quest 3.
Thanks for that clear explanation. I was wondering about whether I was focusing near (at the lens) or far. I'd still like to understand how multi-focal contacts (or multi-focal cataract lenses) would work in VR.
At first when I put on my quest 3 for the first time, I was very sad that I could see the pixels, it was like grainy looking, but after a while I got used to it and everything looks great now. But I think my quest 3 was faulty cause it started having lines in the display that were like very hard to see but still very visible in white environments.
With an IPD of around 74-75, Ive never had a good time with VR. But the quest 3 is perfect! I set it to max, and I can see clearly from edge to edge on both eyes 😊
Hi, my name is Daniele and I'm writing from Italy, so I apologize if my English can be horrible. I congratulate you for the clear and valuable information you provide us in your videos, I appreciate them very much. I am writing to you with a question regarding glasses to wear with my quest 3. I wear reading glasses (up close) while from afar I have no problems (10/10 🤓). Do you recommend that I buy close-up lenses anyway or might I not? In VR I have no problems of any kind, I'm just afraid that over time without close glasses my eyes might get tired and get worse. What to do? Thanks and congratulations for the video. Ciao Dan
Thanks so much for posting this. I’ve got glasses to see in the distance but they’re too big to fit inside the quest. Like you said, I had actually thought I didn’t need them because the device was so closeup, yet things were still blurry. This video certainly answered my questions. Now I just need to find out wear to get the prescription lens for it.
Thanks for throwing that number about the Quest 3's pupil distance adjustment, because I thought it was weird that mine only seems to adjust between like 61 and 65, and within that range I notice almost no change. I'll have to see if mine might be defective.
So i just found this video after picking up the quest 3! appreciate the great info but had one question. I wear blue blocker style glasses with a .5 magnification for working with computers. Have great vision otherwise, but curious your take if I should be getting any kind of lenses to increase clarity and prevent any damage to my eyesight. Thanks in advance.
Found this video randomly while looking for vr games. Thank you for making this. I thought I had something not functioning well, no one ever mention that. I see blurry in my quest 3s all around the edges i’m not looking, texts etc… and I see it crisp only the direction that i’m facing, and the room is full of noise during passthrough 😕 It’s quite not comfortable, the straps too
This is an amazing video! Thank you so much for this. I’ve gone from Vive when ya had to manually adjust the lenses to match your eyes to the psvr2 that has the auto adjusting and I got contact lenses so I could use them purely for VR. Been wanting to get a quest 3 but wasn’t sure how the focus and adjustment worked. Now I do. Thanks heaps for this 😁 sucks that they don’t automatically adjust. But ah well. Is there a testing/setup thing in the quest 3 for that? So when you first put it in ya can go through them to make everything look good?
Awesome video dude, incredibly thorough. I actually just clicked the video based on the thumbnail (obviously did it's job), and got half way through and thought, damn this guy should be an eye doctor lol. Then read your name and you mentioned it later on. I actually ordered prescription lenses online for my Q3, but I figured reading would be best and not distance, so may have to send those back. Will have to test it out! Thanks for the tips, I learnt quite a bit - Thank you!
im looking at getting a used quest 3, can you tell me how to quickly check the lenses to make sure I avoid scratched ones? is there an app I can use to make checking the lenses quick?
Good video but I wish you would have told us exactly how much error the app displayed compared to your clinic machine. Off by 1, by2, by3, etc in your test subjects.... How accurate is the app compared to your reference equipment.... I tried the app and it reports 62. My actual is 65 which is a bit too big of a difference.
This was a great video for information on why it might be blurry in the Quest 3. I actually saw your video on dry eyes causing blurry vision and it explained what I was dealing with on my Quest 1 at the time. My eyes would start to burn, ache and feel a little painful after an hour or so in the headset and your video explained it. I did know I had mild dry eye syndrome, but that experience made me realize I had to pay attention to it. Also, my Chiropractor at the time said I was experiencing inflammation in my body from eating too much sugar, sweets in my diet and through his testing said it was making my dry eye worse in a way. So, I have used eye drops before I put on my Quest 3 all the time. I also bought the prescription lenses for my Quest 3 as I had for the Quest 1. I had the blue light filter put in because I know that's a good idea. I noticed some double vision at first as the headset was starting up and at the home screen. At first I would take off my prescription lenses and put them back on and oddly enough within a few minutes my vision was much clearer. Then I stopped doing that as one lens doesn't come off easily and so I left them in and sometimes the blurriness lasts quite awhile while I am in VR and sometimes it clears up at some point. Weird to me. I use Beat Saber as a guide in a way that if the images are too blurry and I keep missing the colored boxes, then I would take off the prescription lenses and put them back on. I wondered if that aligned them with my eyes better doing that because it seemed to get clearer over a short time and especially in Beat Saber when I went back to playing it later in that session in my headset, but I doubt it and now that I don't do that, I just live with it, although my Beat Saber test hasn't shown the blurriness so bad that I can't see good enough, but its still blurry, just not as bad. In Most other games the blurriness doesn't affect me playing the game like Walkabout mini golf, Puzzling Places, Zombie shooters, Angry Birds VR. Must be because i am not focusing on something like the boxes in Beat Saber. I know I am rambling on, but its hard for me to explain exactly what I am experiencing. I also notice its clearer when I am using my headset during the day and I have a big window that lets a lot of light in. I see this especially in Puzzling Places, really clear puzzle pieces. If I do that at night its not as clear what I see in my headset as I guess its the darkness coming in my room. I notice this with other games I play also, but more noticeable in Puzzling Places. I use a lens cloth that came with my HonsVR prescription lenses on the prescription lenses, but also the cameras on my headset if I get my fingers on them. Never thought to check for particles on the cloth. I will now. I have a lens pen and never did much when I used it. Of course I would clean the Quest lenses when I did take off my prescription lenses, but now I don't need to do that now. In the end I wonder if its normal to have a little blurriness while I am in the headset. Just how much is normal. I guess it would help taking breaks as I can be in VR for hours. My problem is that if I stop I might not go back in. Its just how my brain works as I am Autistic and I just stay in until I am done wanting to play anymore. I know its not the best way, but otherwise I would have very short sessions in VR and I love VR. Anyway, love your content. I was studying to be an optometrist at one point in my life, but graduate school was not for me as I found it too difficult. I am 57 years young now and have moved on clearly. I just have retained a lot of what I did learn in school. Really find the eyes fascinating and also my dad almost went blind from Central Serous Retinopathy. Definitely a history there. I am checking out other of your videos now. Thanks for posting this. Take care and much love 😊❤.
Great Video! I have trifocal lenses for daily wear, reading glasses, and computer glasses. What are your thoughts on using the daily wear type vs computer? I'm guessing the distance scrip in the trifocals are best.
the funny thing about all these lens artifacts - chromatic aberration, reflections, etc - we've kinda been primed for it in flatscreen gaming just about every modern game released in the last 10 or 20 years has lens flare you can toggle, chromatic aberration you can toggle, and all manner of other actual visual distortions and artifacts you can add for 'flavour' now back here in present day on the cutting edge of tech, we can generate all those same lens effects naturally in the vr headset with no gpu overhead! the future is now 🌈
Your quest videos are great! Has anyone else noticed spots on their lens that seem to be blurry almost like a permanent fog spot? I noticed one on my left lens on the right side. It's not the end of the world but a bit annoying when you notice it.
I wonder if it’s from the heating of it since there’s no fan or cooling ports, my thought is is that it’s getting so warm inside there and it heats it behind the lense where we can’t wipe, just a theory I’m probably wrong
hey! Thanks so much for making this video. I'm new to the VR world and put it off for years because my vision is so bad... astigmatism and can't really see a foot in front of my face, lol. I also wear a 0.5 prism in my readers, and 1.0 prism in my distance glasses. Your video helped me understand why I should wear my distance glasses in my Quest 3 to help prevent blurriness. Thanks again!
With the pancake lenses on the quest 3 if you're experiencing blurriness you either need prescription lenses or you need to clean the lenses because the sweet spot is so big on those lenses you shouldn't have anything blurry it's most likely probably your eyes
Hello Doctor! I have strabismus with a lazy eye on the side. I began to work with concentration to bring my lazy eye when concentrating toward te center... Do you think VR may help me to deal with my strabismus or cause it to be more gentle? thank in advance!
Re distance or reading prescription for lenses, what about for the close ups, like reading gauges or text, like in SiM racing or flying? Wouldn’t you need the reading?
No offence meant, Dr EyeGuy. But simply because of TH-cam's strange recommendation choices, this is the first time watching one of your video's. Firstly, what a fantastic quality video - and a big compliment to your amazing editing skills. I was one of the best video's I ever watched for both information & enjoyment. But my question comes from STILL owning the original Oculus RIFT. So when I move the (manual) PD adjuster on the RIFT, it tells me in the headset, that my clearest view is a PD of 49 (it's lowest possible setting). But when the Quest 3 first came out - some Channels stated that the lowest PD setting was 53. But now a lot of other Channels like yours are now stating that the very LOWEST setting if actually 58, not 53. So my question is simply if I know my PD is 49 (or possibly even lower?) - then would you say as an eye specialist, that this automatically makes the Quest 3 a NO-GO for me?
What about the darkening around the edges of the lenses? I just got my quest 3 and as soon as I was in a bright environment, I couldn't stop noticing the dark edges. Looks like there is a vignette around the whole thing. My quest 2 was much more consistent.
I ordered some reloptix lenses today. I can’t wait to play with them. I’ve always found it difficult with VR as I have to wear my glasses. Being able to get the lenses closer to my eyes is going to be a big help I think. 🤞🏻
is quest 3 worth it i am assuming you have your lenses already so how was your experience with VR headset . Im thinking of buying it and im not sure. IS the tech mature yet or better to wait
@@pythonprogrammerdynamics5719 so I’ve got my lenses. They are excellent. I really wanted to use it with the work space VR but I haven’t really got on with it. If you don’t have a super bright space to use it then the pass through image is really blurry. Having said that… I tried the Apple VisionPro the other day. Obvs without glasses or lenses. So it was blurry. But even then I could tell how much better it was than the quest 3. If you have glasses then def try a quest 3 with them. It won’t be comfortable. But you’ll get a good idea. Then the lenses just improve it a lot due to comfort etc …
@@pythonprogrammerdynamics5719 if you’re just using it for gaming. Then it’s worth it. Although a lot of the games are also paid games. So it gets expensive.
Thanks for the video, very useful. When I'm in VR it feels like as if the image is dirty and not crystal clear, especially with bright backgrounds. I think it's the mura effect issue, since it's dark "dirt". I wonder if this is a common issue on quest 3 due to the way these pancake lenses are or if my unit is defective and should ask for replacement. Bought it new just few days ago.
So I got this thing for my wife for Christmas…. She’s got to use it for about :10 minutes. I have used it for 4-5 hours.. She loves it. I’m an airline pilot and find that some of this stuff is like being in the sim. I think that there is an incredible amount of potential uses for VR like learning a new airplane and its procedures; I’m sure that’s coming. ASI said, my PD is only 57 and I can tell that it would be better if I had just a bit more width but non the less, still incredible. Only complaint it the (sometimes) out of focus videos and the haziness you spoke of. Overall I’d buy again and look forward to what’s down the road!
I have used rift from it released to today, whatever minor inconcenienses with weak blur I can deal with it. Bought Quest 3 with BoboVR S3 pro just now, so this is perfect YT food until they arrive
Wow, finally, you get a quest 3. Congrats, man. So how do you feel about it. Do you have any reviews and tips for having a better experience in quest 3? What do you think about bonicular overlap on quest 3 compared to quest 2. I think i noticed it more in Quest 3 for some reason.
Fascinating video. New sub as I’m new with a Q3 and new to VR as well. I’m monocular (since I was little) and have been wondering how much of the effect of VR that I’m missing out on. I describe using my Q3 as looking at a screen through a toilet paper tube but the effect disappears after I get going. So how much am I missing out on? And how important is PD for me?
Well so far with my Quest 3 the visuals look fine for me with the pancake lenses. I do mainly SIM racing gaming and all the games look very good visually. I have had my Quest 3 since the end of 2023 and the updates have made the product better. Thanks for the video information. Take care.
i had the pico 4 for 2 weeks and i was not happy cause of the sharpness and clarity. bought the meta 3 and instanlty saw a difference. worth the price upgrade.
Good day. I have a question strictly related to my vision defect. Namely, since birth, my left eye has been practically blind. One of the ophthalmologists diagnosed a defect at the back of the eye that causes the image from the eye lens not to fully reach this nerve. This causes me to see colors and general shapes, but from five meters away, the largest mark on the ophthalmologist's board is a black spot for me. And now the most important thing, my eye is moving to the left side. My question is whether I will be able to use VR goggles. They are not cheap, so I would not like to buy such goggles and not be able to use them. I would be very grateful for an answer. Greetings from Poland.
The absolute best advice on this video was to point out that you should wear your distance glasses. I just got my headset today, tried it for 30 minutes without glasses couldn't figure out how to get it 'in focus'. Watched this video, put my glasses on and then WOW. The only thing is that now I'm seriously considering getting prescription lenses for it. :/
Coming from the Quest 2 - yeah the Quest 3 is a HUGE bump in quality. That said - most annoying update is the glasses adjuster. I swear who designed that thing? I had my not even 2 day old MQ3 button fail. I heard there are some ways of 'fixing it' because it gets out of alignment, but it's just odd because adjusting it, you really feel like it's breaking all the time.
Im so glad i found your channel . I tell my eye doctor about how triggeri g my vision is and they just increase my perscription i literally have to wear glasses from cvs because the lenses they prescribe are always too strong. Im going to look into the eye drops
WEAR GLASSES? I highly recommend the Zenni lenses. Get your prescription and get them. Total game changer. I have them and they pop right into the head set. Comes with a cleaning clothe and a case to hold the lenses.
I went from the HTC Vive to the Quest 3 and I had the problem, that it was very blurry. Later I realized I had to wear my glasses with the Q3 while the Vive worked just fine without them. I think its because the stenopic gap in the Vive.
This was very helpful I’ve been trying to be aware of taking care of my eyes in vr and was wondering if it’s just the question 2 or my eye distance is just not in any of the sweet spots so your helping me consider the upgrade.
Awesome video 🎉 With my quest2 and prescription lenses it is still blurry, it improves only if holding it with my hands at a specific position that I loose using it normally. I understand that the quest3 with its new lens and better setup will improve my experience even if not perfect. Thanks a lot !
Had to wait for my prescription lenses inserts for Q3, before using them VR was slightly blurry. Now with the lenses everything is fine. Might be that a lot of people do not know their IPD or know that they need prescription lenses.
The glasses on app is pretty good for measuring IPD. I am not so sure about the prescription extraction. I am still debating whether I want to buy a Quest 3. However, I do want to say that I appreciate this Quest 3 video from someone I trust.
Update. I just ordered a Quest 3 and it is being delivered tomorrow. So, now I am really looking forward to the prescription lens inset review that is coming to this channel. I find contact uncomfortable so I rather not have to use them.
@@SA4REXYou should still be fine. Mine is higher than the max as well, at 73, but I play Quest 2 just fine with prescription inserts. From my understanding, Quest 3 is more forgiving than Quest 2, since it has pancake lenses.
Questions I have one eye with close in lens , other eye for distant lens. Had Cataract lens replacement recently. Considering my eyes is VR possible? Add on question VR with sight in 1 eye only?
Good day from Snowy Sweden! I have a question, if I may? My optician has consistently measured my PD at 65mm, but when I used the Quest Pro or various apps, it always came to 68mm. Which one should I trust? Could it be a convergence issue when the PD's are measured in different scenarios?
I have Ambliopia in the right eye. Is the ipd relevant to me on quest 3 ? Also can you give some tips for not having blurry vision on the left eye ? Thanks !
I just got some Hons magnetic prescription lenses. The clarity is great, but I feel that as they clip within the rim of the Quest 3 lenses, they actually reduce the size, at least on first glance, of the Quest 3 lenses. Does that really matter when your eyes are so close to them? Also, they touch just under my eyebrows, so have to adjust the eye relief back one step. I never had any of these issues with my Quest 2. Maybe clipping the lenses over the Quest 2 lenses was a better solution?
So many people are talking about this and the optics. In high contrast situations, like white words on a black background, I notice and many others too that there appears to be a "fog or haze" on the lenses. Like an uneven glow. If you move your head in this situation, you can see the fog change or move. Is this normal or are these units defective? I am told this maybe normal for these LCD screens and lenses. But I find that odd it would be. Like the coatings are bad or something? And no this is not fogging from wearing it. It's there all the time. Any thoughts? And again, lots of people are complaining of this and many want a real answer but we are not getting it from Meta.
Yes.. I notice it as well. I noticed it would the quest 2, but the quest 2 had other distortions that distracted from it. With the quest 3 being clearer that haze/glare seems more noticeable. That can be caused from a few things. It can be the display, could be the lenses... even with the Pancake lenses you will have light scatter and glare. Depending on the person, it can be their own eyes if they have astigmatism not corrected for.
Hey Dr Eye Guy, i plan on getting the Meta Quest 3, but i have an Astigmatism, my right eye drifts when i dont have prescription lenses in, i wear contact lenses, when they are in my doesnt drift, will i have trouble with the VR? Should i get the Prescription VR Lenses or just use my contact lenses? Thanks
On the Q2, I wore my 1.5 reading glasses and it was perfect. Tried this on the Q3 and very blurred! Looks like the focal distance is different on the 3. I use my Q3 without reading glasses
I has recently got a Quest 3 as my first headset, and it strains my eyes too much. I wonder could it be I have a defective optics? Sometimes I feel that even a slight change in the headset fit makes the picture more blurry.
Greetings from Kuwait. Doc I’ve preordered my VR lenses from VR Waves. I’m still waiting for them. I gave them the data from my progressive eyeglasses and not the close reading glasses, is that correct? And yes indeed I noticed blurring in Quest 3 when I look to the sides unlike Quest 2. But in general the image in Quest 3 is much sharper in the center. At the moment I’m wearing my progressive lenses in Quest 3.
Hi! Thanks for watching. Yes, your prescription for your progressives will work, as long as they are for normal progressives that you can wear full time, because it will have your distance prescription in there. So they will be able to take the prescription and make the lenses just fine.
(Haven't watched the rest of the video yet) But can someone who wears glasses use the PD adjustment to be able to see without glasses on while using the quest 3?
I looked at both Zenni and Realoptix. Zenni says no need for the ADD part of the prescription and doesn't ask about PD and Realoptix ask for both and add for close up vision (bifocals) I'm still leaning towards zenni, does the ADD and PD make a real difference in VR ? thanks!
Great question. Reloptix can adjust the rx slightly if you have a large ADD power... but it's necessary..... but if you have a large add, it could help. PD should line up with the optical center of the quest lenses.
I couldn't get away with it. Nice displays and lenses, and the scanning technology is amazing, but the shape of the lenses made it impossible for me to get that one screen appearance that I can get with other headsets. So I went back to the quest 2. Which is still very good. Quest 3S is good for me too because it's got the same Fresnel lenses as the quest 2. I know their downfall but I'd take it over prettier lenses that my eyes just can't get used to

I was planning on upgrading, because I love the sound of better lenses, but the lack of software/decent games is giving me pause, plus I barely use the Quest2.

He's actually an optometrist, not an opthalmologist.

0:44 that transition, wow
ikr
Don't forget to clean the front passthrough cameras with a soft cloth! Sometimes they can get fingerprints on them and become blurry as well
thanks! this helped a lot! I did the eye pupil thing and shoved my glasses in it and its relatively crystal clear now. Super strange needing glasses in it as a near sighted person but what you described makes sense, my vision gets blurry at about 2-3 feet
Same, it is such a struggle needing glasses for a Vr that is shoved into your face..
@@spectral_blue3529 you can order custom lens as long as you have your prescription, it’s a game changer.
@@spectral_blue3529 You do know you can get lenses that attaches to the Quest so you do not need to shove your glasses in there.
I believe many people saying quest 3 is blurry are complaining about the pass through being low resolution and has lot of noise.
What is noise

You're advice on pupillary distance was perfect, I tried the glasses on app, and then called my vision center to confirm what my pd was, and the glasses on app was spot on, dropped a like 👍
Spot on... I was impressed. even my glasses lens measuring was exact to what prescription rate they are. WILD!
It’s also due to the adjustment not you just needing glasses
This is one of the coolest VR explanation videos. I actually learned about my eyes haha
Thank you so much for saying this... I really do appreciate it.
Good to hear! I am testing these lenses out now.
@@DrEyeGuy Can you replace the quest 3s lenses with quest 3 pancake lenses?
@@OfficialOspo not that I know of.
This makes me feel a little better. Mine is 56 so I was afraid upgrading from the 2 to 3 wouldn't fix the blur issue.
Great video doc. I’m an optician and agree with all your comments. I just ordered lenses for my Q3 and hope it helps. Keep the tips coming.
I do notice an annoying white haze or reflection when playing on the quest 3.
Strangely it seems more blurry than the quest 2 🤷
I've actually had a few people who have commented that. I'm not sure why that would be because it's the opposite for me.
I notice a white haze too but only when I scroll webpages or move my head
I see blurry in my quest 3s all around the edges i’m not looking, texts etc… and I see it crisp only the direction that i’m facing, and the room is full of noise during passthrough 😕
It’s quite not comfortable, the straps too
This is an amazing video!
Thanks!
Yes, there is a setup at the beginning, but it's pretty minimal.
Thank you for the awesome comment! So glad this video could help. I love making these types of videos.
im looking at getting a used quest 3, can you tell me how to quickly check the lenses to make sure I avoid scratched ones? is there an app I can use to make checking the lenses quick?
Thanks. I have been trying to understand this for a while and don’t feel like there’s been anything else that explains it like this
Good video but I wish you would have told us exactly how much error the app displayed compared to your clinic machine.
I'm guessing the distance scrip in the trifocals are best.
the funny thing about all these lens artifacts - chromatic aberration, reflections, etc - we've kinda been primed for it in flatscreen gaming
just about every modern game released in the last 10 or 20 years has lens flare you can toggle, chromatic aberration you can toggle, and all manner of other actual visual distortions and artifacts you can add for 'flavour'
now back here in present day on the cutting edge of tech, we can generate all those same lens effects naturally in the vr headset with no gpu overhead!
the future is now 🌈
Your quest videos are great! Has anyone else noticed spots on their lens that seem to be blurry almost like a permanent fog spot? I noticed one on my left lens on the right side. It's not the end of the world but a bit annoying when you notice it.
Yes! And no matter how I clean them they look foggy!
Yes! So annoying!
I wonder if it’s from the heating of it since there’s no fan or cooling ports, my thought is is that it’s getting so warm inside there and it heats it behind the lense where we can’t wipe, just a theory I’m probably wrong
@Cheeseguy738 I got my original headset rma'd and the new one doesn't have the same issue. Seems to be a defect with some of the lenses.
Hey Doc, your right with the nausea because I just got my first pair of VR. My stomach felt awful
With the pancake lenses on the quest 3 if you're experiencing blurriness you either need prescription lenses or you need to clean the lenses because the sweet spot is so big on those lenses you shouldn't have anything blurry it's most likely probably your eyes
thanks for the tips. I just got my Q3 last night. lots of fun. also subed u

HI Doc. My PD is a 57. In that the low end of the scope is 58....should I plan on a bad experience? Just ordered the Q3
No.. the Q3 is much more forgiving with PD's. I think you will do great. You will have to let me know how you like it.
I will. Thank you.
Thank you for the idea for the dish soap on the quest three lens because now it doesn’t fog anymore
Thnx for the info! What kind of strap are you using? Regards, Ron
Awesome video. Great information from an actual doctor!!!
What about us with binocular overlap problem with Q3 which is massive...Q2 works fine for me, but Q3 is pain in the ass...
Have you noticed a glare effect on the Quest 3?
I owned the Q2 and with the Q3 I noticed a strong glare effect
The absolute best advice on this video was to point out that you should wear your distance glasses. I just got my headset today, tried it for 30 minutes without glasses couldn't figure out how to get it 'in focus'. Watched this video, put my glasses on and then WOW. The only thing is that now I'm seriously considering getting prescription lenses for it. :/
With regards to glasses you answered every question I wanted answering. So now I don't have to ask them .. thanks dude 👍
Awesome! Glad I could help!
You can disable chromatic aberrations in system settings with side quest.
I remember doing it for my quest 2 so it should be there for the 3
Been updated 🎉🎉🎉 pass through is clear 🎉
Coming from the Quest 2 - yeah the Quest 3 is a HUGE bump in quality. That said - most annoying update is the glasses adjuster. I swear who designed that thing? I had my not even 2 day old MQ3 button fail. I heard there are some ways of 'fixing it' because it gets out of alignment, but it's just odd because adjusting it, you really feel like it's breaking all the time.
I agree, super fragile.
Thank-you for making this!
What is your thoughts in using this in a office environment? Me
Use autocad and use 3 monitors but with this… life changer
The distance adjustment is a must-have for my long lashes.
For sure!
Don't forget to clean the outside lens for MR/AR.
HP vibe is not blurry. Got mine for 400$ on sale. Best display for MSFS 2020 and vr videos.
The glasses on app is pretty good for measuring IPD. I am not so sure about the prescription extraction. I am still debating whether I want to buy a Quest 3. However, I do want to say that I appreciate this Quest 3 video from someone I trust.
My IPD was 74mm but quest 3 only goes to 70 😭
Update. I just ordered a Quest 3 and it is being delivered tomorrow. So, now I am really looking forward to the prescription lens inset review that is coming to this channel. I find contact uncomfortable so I rather not have to use them.
@@watcherworld5873Q3 is not as hype as some paid Meta YTubers are making it.
@@SA4REXYou should still be fine. Mine is higher than the max as well, at 73, but I play Quest 2 just fine with prescription inserts.
From my understanding, Quest 3 is more forgiving than Quest 2, since it has pancake lenses.
I discovered my guess a PD was off and I was wearing the incorrect glasses the whole time. Thank you for a great video!
Questions
I have one eye with close in lens , other eye for distant lens.
Had Cataract lens replacement recently.
Considering my eyes is VR possible?
Add on question VR with sight in 1 eye only?
Great video! I am stealing this for my corporate XR users/trainers. Every point is valid for knowing on any XR device.
Awesome! Thank you!
@@DrEyeGuy Its not just the glare its like also looking through fog.People say high contrast but I have it all the time
Got mine yesterday and noticed the white haze or fog when scrolling web pages or moving my head. Feared my unit was defective.
Thanks, helps a lot!
It's possible
Hmm. I focus pretty well, to a distance of about 6 feet, but I needed prescription inserts with the Quest 2.
At the 11 minute mark, what head strap are you using?
congrats on 100k :)
Thanks! It's been awesome doing these videos.
I have a Quest 3 (first VR) and the camera view looks like a mobile camera from 2010. Strong pixelation, not even close to the commercials.
Noticed center view is blurry which produces lights around.. Feels like dirt or fog, but lenses is clear...
Something must be off... the center should be the clearest optically.
Thank you for the info, great information. cheers
Awesome video, helped a lot :)
why do you sound like tired MatPat
Thanks! And never keep Visine bottle next to superglue.
I know their downfall but I'd take it over prettier lenses that my eyes just can't get used to
Is it the far PD or near PD? Eye measure gives me both of these
