The uplifts are garbage from the 40 series. However it all depends on what generation a person is coming from. Most people are still on 10/20 series GPU’s and all the 50 series are a massive upgrade from that.

I'm going to come from a 3080 so compared to the others here with a 2070 and 2060 I won't see as big a leap as them, but it'll still be a good jump! And I'm mostly doing it to retire my 3080 while it's still in great shape, since it's an EVGA card. Might even frame it up.

@@nickc1425 For me, it's going into a new build for an engineering workstation. Some of my apps LIKE Cuda cores for munching data, so the old system's GTX1080 to a 5080 is an amazing step forward. But, I am pretty sure if a 4080 Super came along I'd have just bought that and been done with it. Alas, like you have noticed, 4K series cards are priced more than the equivalent 5K cards. I'd attribute that somewhat to Nvidia creating an artificial market scarcity in order to prop up the 5K sales.
sick, i don't have a rig currently, wanted to build a 4070 ti super or 4080 super one but decided to wait a couple of months for the new series of gpu. worst decision ever, now i'll have to wait at the least another couple of months to get a decent deal on a comparably gpu in terms of price and performance of the one i would have got in the first place, with the advantage to be playing now instead of ranting... then i turned to the used market and the last stock of new 4000 series... terribly overpriced who the fuck is buying used shit, not knowing how and how much it's been used, at such a terrible price that's above the retail for new they had at the store. sick market i feel like some companies should step up and enter the market with good quality at the good price it would be a shock, there is no competition right now and that's bad for the market and for the consumers... but i guess it's really hard to make chips otherwise i don't get the crazy market and prices we're getting... for the fact the 5080 has so small performance: i think they are trying to cap the ai computing power of theese chips also but not only in regards to china... ai has to be in the states and i don't think they're stepping down from there, this is a high stakes technology they won't let it out.
After 8 rocksolid years of gaming, changed my trusty 1060 6gb for a 7900 xtx this week. Granted, there was a slight expectation of buyer's remorse, but with the current state of it all I can happily watch the techchannels for the coming years to see how this (un)madness will unfold. I made the same choice i replaced my 1060 6g with xtx vapor 2 weeks ago and could have got 4080s at the same price but still went with xtx for the vram alone. I guess seeing the new gen results made me less sad for going team red
Notice how NVIDIA stopped manufacturing the 4080s almost a year after it was initially released, forcing people to buy the more expensive 50-series cards and locking people out of potentially discounted 40-series cards later. The 2080 cards were still in production 4 years after their release.
@@kieroncousins3134 I bought one, sitting in a box. And it makes sense. But I bought it because my 3080 was malfunctioning. But I fixed that be reseating. So now I think, going from 3080 to 5080 makes some sense. It's not a lot more...eventually when the market normalizes, if it does normalize. What's annoying, but kinda predictable, is that you can't buy an RTX 4080 or super at list. People want 1600 for a 1000 USD card.
I'm in the UK and you can pick up a 7900xtx for £850. I'm assuming partner cards for the 5080 are going to be anywhere from £1100-1400 considering the MSRP is listed as just below £1k. Unless you really care about raytracing it seems like terrible value.
I agree. The 7900 XTX looks even better value now than before, even if the RT performance is a generation behind Nvidia. It's a shame they pulled out of the high-end market, with the sloppy performance of the 5080. A 9090 XTX would've probably looked pretty great in comparison, even if it came second to the sloppy 50x0-series, you know, two months late.
Finally someone who acknowledges that if you have a 30 series it’s a huge uplift. We’re in a time where skipping a generation is okay. Especially when I spend big money I’m not upgrading every generation
Man, I've been doing that for over two decades now. Getting a new card every generation is just wasteful and unnecessary unless your gaming PC is also your work PC.
They missed the mark for me. I was curious even at $1000 but it falls too far short as an uplift over what I already have. They know AMD isn't really giving them a run this generation so they think they can get away with it. I think it's just going to mean a lot of people don't bother.

Let's just get real, and acknowledge that Nvidia decided that they don't need to make an actual 80 series anymore. They just make a 70 and slap an 80 sticker on it and call it a day. They did it on 40 series, did it again, and it's probably the new norm now.
That’s because the are relying heavily on those gimmicks (upscaling, frame generation which is really frame smoothing), to make up for lack of pure rasterization. Were about to enter another GPU dark time (last one was lack of overall inventory availability and this one is lack of quality GPUs being made).
Exactly. 5080=5070ti / 5070ti=5070 / 5070=5060ti. Now both 5070 cards have the same GPU and VRAM. Everything suddenly starts making sense... except the price of course.

Years ago I purchased a RTX 2070, a month later they released the RTX 2070 super. Actually Jay warned me about the super release but I wanted the card and didn't wait. Years later, I upgraded to the RTX 4070 TI, a week afterwards, they announced the RTX 4070 TI super. In a few years, I will purchase a RTX 6080 a day or 2 before they announce the RTX 6080 super.
It's funny how everyone's thinking they'll just grab a 40 series used card for half the retail and still complain that a new 16gb card will cost $1000, we all know you'll never get those cards for retail. On Ebay 5090s already priced $3000 and the 5080 $1999.😮 So a used 4090 or 4080S should keep close to It's retail value if not more,. The 30 series market won't budge either.
I'm up shit creek without are paddle I decided to hold off on getting a 4080 Super, but now they are pretty much sold out everywhere I live, and my retailers won't be receiving any more stock. I have three options: 1. Upgrade from a 3060 Ti to a 5080 this would be a massive upgrade over the 3060Ti 2. Wait for the 5070 Ti. 3. Wait for the 5080 Ti / Super. I really hate using my brain to make decisions 🤣
I would say try and get a 5080 if you can. A lot of times it is harder than you think. If you get it who hoo. If you don’t, wait and try for the 5070. That’s what I would do
Get an XTX. Monster card. If you use RT console equivalent settings on it, it performs surprisingly similar to a 4080 super. The performance difference between in Indiana Jones isn't that much. And you get 24gb of VRAM.

I’ve been holding out on GPU for my new build since November for the 50 series. (Coming from a 3060 12GB) It’s been so underwhelming, on Sunday I walked past the guys camping at micro center entrance, went in and bought a 7900xtx with a $100 2 year extended warranty, which means I can use it and return it anytime and roll the $ into a new card upgrade in the next two years no questions asked when there’s something else that is in stock that moves up Toms hardware GPU chart that I want. *cough* 5080 ti *cough* 60 series. Totally worth it esp not having to bother camping outside microcenter for 5+ days to get good. I’ll be sleeping so good tonight, enjoying my 2x - 3x FPS boost on my new rig!

Brutal. MFG can't turn your crappy 30 fps into 120 fps, it's just not the same as actual 120 fps, not even close. It has 4 times the input lag of native 120 fps not to mention all the artifacts.
3090 owner here. Imoh an absolute beast still today. With dlss 4 balanced or quality preset it can still hold on a lot at 1440p (uwqhd also) and I am NOT giving away my money to nvidia until they will clearly keeping scalping on final users. Can it output 60 fps max settings on any AAA game? Then it is ok, it is an absolute monster for now. Plus… I am not paying more for having less memory/less bandwidth. I went from 1080Ti to 4070Ti Super - I was on the fence about the 5080 as the next card, but 50-series overall has been meh so far (not paying what would be a mortgage payment for a GPU). It's looking like I will hold out for if they do a Super line or 80Ti variant
I went from Radeon 9200 to gtx580 to 980ti SLI to 3070ti. I'll probably just wait a while and buy an 8050 or something. It's not like any good games are coming out anymore anyway.
We are now at the point where we were ten years ago when we told people to turn off the horrific frame interpolation on their tvs, but with graphic settings in video games. Yes, I know it's different/better than that (in some ways) but regardless, I hate it in lieu of actual gen on gen performance increases we should expect. As an extra? Sure, great, cool.

4:40 This isn't the same cooler as 5090. 5090 uses a fancy vapor chamber and liquid metal, while 5080 is just regular thermal paste and 5 heat pipes. Techpowerup has a teardown of both and it's the same idea and footprint, but less advanced.
Im glad the 5080 isn't being reviewed too well. It means demand should be relatively low compared to the 5090, meaning I'll be able to get one lol. The gen on gen uplift vs the 4080 Super might be underwhelming, but it still represents a HUGE upgrade for me when compared to my current GPU. I also do video editing and I'm interested in running AI models locally on my computer, and the 5080 has better uplift in those scenarios, it even outperforms a 4090 in DaVinci Resolve. I don't think the 5080 is for anyone that has a 4070 Ti or better, but if you have a 3080 or weaker GPU it's a pretty substantial upgrade.
I think a real issue is that there is a 99% chance that you will not be able to get this card at MSRP. That also makes the AIB cards that are anywhere from $200-400 more even more ridiculous.
An important point. In which case, people should vote with their wallet, and say I can live without all the bells and whistles of Nivida, and buy AMD. As you can get the XTX at list price. Or wait a few months until March. and see what AMD brings to the table. Might be a great reason to vote team red. During Covid, I was on an RTX 3080 waiting list from EVGA. And finally got mine and paid list. When some people were supposedly paying roughly twice list price. We should all discourage scalpers and weak products by voting with our wallets for saner choices. But I admit it, I usually want the best at 1k or less USD. So understand I am a hipocrite. But still, I think it makes sense to spend wisely, unless 2000 or more is nothing to you. The hardware available these days we should be seeing photo realistic graphics at 120+ fps as standard. Modern videogame devs have dropped the ball bigtime.
I am overwhelmed, with how well my 4070 super is holding up to the 50 series. Being a 1440p gamer who understands how over-rated 4k is and how not worth it the performance loss is for 4k gaming and ray tracing, I won't need to switch for a very long time if nvidia keeps this up.
@@fizzleman If you can handle playing at 60 fps then I can see it. I however need 90 fps bare minimum, so 4k is a huge NOPE from me. After playing in 144fps for so long, I can only tolerate going down to 90 fps now.
The heat pipes/vapor chamber and thermal interface is different. The 90 has a vapor chamber and liquid metal, while the 80 has a phase change Honeywell type giddyup and heat pipes. The half a pound difference is probably in that cooling design for the most part. Jeezis! A half pound ?!?!?! Thats pretty nuts actually.
The performance increase is really only because of the increased raytrace performance. IMO the 7900XTX is still better value. but the extras nvidia has makes it worth it if you have the money.
Seems that is the new way, but I don't see any other way. Surely if we just wanted raw power we'd end up with power hungry monsters at twice the size. I know very little tho

As an owner of an older 10GB 3080, I'm still hoping to score a 5080. It may not be a huge uplift over the previous gen, but it's still a good step up for me.
I appreciate the note about "skip this if upgrading from 4080; if from a 4070 you'll see a pretty huge jump; and if from 30-series anything it absolutely destroys them" My 3080 died, so I'm in the market for a GPU, otherwise I'd have stuck with my 3080 which I was already plenty happy about.
I just don't understand Nvidia. Clearly, they want people to shell out more for the 90 series - but then they go and make the available stock extremely limited. If I can't just walk into a store or buy one online at MSRP then what's the point? I gave up on trying to buy a 4090 after 6 months of searching and I ain't paying scalpers.
nvidia don't really care at this point - I'm sure a few product managers would have a look every few months, but in reality they sell so many cards to datacenter that gamers are a few percent of their revenue. And what would people buy instead, AMD? Regular folk (who don't follow this stuff closely online) will still buy it, or buy a previous-gen card.
Waaayyy higher margins when they monopolise the market and control the supply and demand. They dont care if theyre selling less product as their profits are just as good on higher volume.
We are in the era of fake frames = performance. GPU's are now in the State Worker Phase - All the benefits with little work. Sad to say at least the older cards actually rendered each frame in a pure state. now it's low rez + AI upscale on top of looping frame buffer + AI to guess what the next frame will look like.
If you wanna upgrade from the 970 I'd get a 5070Ti. It's the only good card from the 50 series and if you wanna go budget get a 7800Xt or 9070 ($400-500 bucks)
@@bullokio Yeah it's unfortunate the 5070ti has no FE card..The 5070 is skimped on Vram and the 5080 is too cut down. Unless you get a 5080 but I'm sure a 5080 Super will come out beginning of next year or late this year.
I'm waiting for all the cards for this generation to release, including AMD's, before deciding what I want to do. I'm at 1440p and have no plans to go higher than that so even though AMD isn't competing in the HALO segment this time, a card that many consider "mid range" this time around might still be very good for my use case. We'll see.
5070ti at MSRP is probably best bet. Unfortunately, the market is unfriendly to shoppers who wait and that might only leave AMD cards for you. Best of luck!

The GPU is really the only upgrade I need for this rig to be as intended !
It's possible that were approaching the limitations of silicon and won't see any large improvements for the foreseeable future. Can't really blame Nvidia if the laws of physics are the barrier
@ThePorkchop1787 AI could be the future but they need to close the gap between frames and latency. If I'm playing at 144fps, then I expected the latency to be what it would be as if I was playing at that same fps. Perhaps there will be an algorithm to sync the movements of the camera/mouse movements in gen 2 of this new AI technology.

Same, I play most games at 1440P 144Hz on my 3090. Sometimes I will do 4K but sitting 6 feet from TV I honestly don't see the difference so 1440P it is.
Unless you like RT and play 4K and play the absolute most recent AAA games then I see no reason. I often find myself playing game that is not high end.
This release is ridiculous! The local Micro center to me only has like 10 5090's for an entire metro area. Doesn't even look like everyone in line will get a 5080 even though 90% here want a 5090.
Nvidia missed a huge opportunity, they could have made a preorder for the 5070 right after the presentation, so when the reviews are out the cards are already sold.
I had my 4090 for sale for a long time, and the amount of offers for 600 dollars I was getting because a 5070 was the same performance, was getting ridiculous. Glad I no longer feel a need to sell it

The whole 50 series is underwhelming, the 5090 is barely faster than the 4090 and the 5080 is barely faster than the 4080 super. What is the point of even buying a 50 series card?
Well lots of people own 20 and 30 series gpus, 50 series can be a decent upgrade for them. Also the 5090 is decently faster than the 4090, 5080 is just barely faster than the 4080 super/4080.
I wanted to upgrade too from the 6700xt. But might just get the 4080 super instead, considering we won’t be able to get it at launch anyway for the next few months without paying a few hundred above msrp.

I wouldn't buy anything coming out in this generation. In fact, I just bought a PowerColor Fighter RX 6750 XT from Amazon for $341 for my pure gaming PC build in an SFF case that I just built with a Ryzen 7 5700X3D and 32 GB RAM. The only other "high performance" card that would fit in my case would be a Zotac RTX 4070 Twin Edge, but I'm not stupid enough to buy this card for twice the cost of the RX 6750 XT for just a slight increase in performance. And since I'm building a purely gaming PC with raw performance, I don't need DLSS or Raytracing, and I certainly won't be using FSR. I also won't be streaming or creating content on this PC.
SOOOO happy i bought a 4090. Got 2 years of the worlds best card, and now i get at least 2 more years of the world's 2nd best card and all for 1400 which isn't bad spread over 4-5 years.
Here's the thing. Last time I checked, like last week ( late Jan 2025,) you can't get an RTX 4080 super at list price. And we can't get RTX 5080s at list either mostly likely. But in a few months, if someone wants to upgrade from something like an RTX 3080, or earlier, RTX 5080 might make sense.

sick, i don't have a rig currently, wanted to build a 4070 ti super or 4080 super one but decided to wait a couple of months for the new series of gpu. worst decision ever, now i'll have to wait at the least another couple of months to get a decent deal on a comparably gpu in terms of price and performance of the one i would have got in the first place, with the advantage to be playing now instead of ranting... then i turned to the used market and the last stock of new 4000 series... terribly overpriced who the fuck is buying used shit, not knowing how and how much it's been used, at such a terrible price that's above the retail for new they had at the store. sick market i feel like some companies should step up and enter the market with good quality at the good price it would be a shock, there is no competition right now and that's bad for the market and for the consumers... but i guess it's really hard to make chips otherwise i don't get the crazy market and prices we're getting...
for the fact the 5080 has so small performance: i think they are trying to cap the ai computing power of theese chips also but not only in regards to china... ai has to be in the states and i don't think they're stepping down from there, this is a high stakes technology they won't let it out.

After 8 rocksolid years of gaming, changed my trusty 1060 6gb for a 7900 xtx this week. Granted, there was a slight expectation of buyer's remorse, but with the current state of it all I can happily watch the techchannels for the coming years to see how this (un)madness will unfold. I made the same choice i replaced my 1060 6g with xtx vapor 2 weeks ago and could have got 4080s at the same price but still went with xtx for the vram alone. I guess seeing the new gen results made me less sad for going team red
XTX is a monster card. VRAM will give you longevity. Software can be improved.
Haven't waited this long to upgrade from the 1080 TI just to go from 11gb to 16gb vram.
Still running on the 1080 8gb here. If you had asked me back then what i would expect to upgrade to in 2025 i would have probably said at least 32gb.
Notice how NVIDIA stopped manufacturing the 4080s almost a year after it was initially released, forcing people to buy the more expensive 50-series cards and locking people out of potentially discounted 40-series cards later.
The 2080 cards were still in production 4 years after their release.

So now I think, going from 3080 to 5080 makes some sense. It's not a lot more...eventually when the market normalizes, if it does normalize. What's annoying, but kinda predictable, is that you can't buy an RTX 4080 or super at list. People want 1600 for a 1000 USD card.

I'm in the UK and you can pick up a 7900xtx for £850. I'm assuming partner cards for the 5080 are going to be anywhere from £1100-1400 considering the MSRP is listed as just below £1k. Unless you really care about raytracing it seems like terrible value.

It's a shame they pulled out of the high-end market, with the sloppy performance of the 5080. A 9090 XTX would've probably looked pretty great in comparison, even if it came second to the sloppy 50x0-series, you know, two months late.

Man, I've been doing that for over two decades now. Getting a new card every generation is just wasteful and unnecessary unless your gaming PC is also your work PC.
They missed the mark for me. I was curious even at $1000 but it falls too far short as an uplift over what I already have. They know AMD isn't really giving them a run this generation so they think they can get away with it. I think it's just going to mean a lot of people don't bother.

Let's just get real, and acknowledge that Nvidia decided that they don't need to make an actual 80 series anymore. They just make a 70 and slap an 80 sticker on it and call it a day. They did it on 40 series, did it again, and it's probably the new norm now.

Years ago I purchased a RTX 2070, a month later they released the RTX 2070 super. Actually Jay warned me about the super release but I wanted the card and didn't wait. Years later, I upgraded to the RTX 4070 TI, a week afterwards, they announced the RTX 4070 TI super. In a few years, I will purchase a RTX 6080 a day or 2 before they announce the RTX 6080 super.

I'm up shit creek without are paddle I decided to hold off on getting a 4080 Super, but now they are pretty much sold out everywhere I live, and my retailers won't be receiving any more stock. I have three options:
1. Upgrade from a 3060 Ti to a 5080 this would be a massive upgrade over the 3060Ti
2. Wait for the 5070 Ti.
3. Wait for the 5080 Ti / Super.

Get an XTX. Monster card. If you use RT console equivalent settings on it, it performs surprisingly similar to a 4080 super. The performance difference between in Indiana Jones isn't that much. And you get 24gb of VRAM.

I’ve been holding out on GPU for my new build since November for the 50 series. (Coming from a 3060 12GB) It’s been so underwhelming, on Sunday I walked past the guys camping at micro center entrance, went in and bought a 7900xtx with a $100 2 year extended warranty, which means I can use it and return it anytime and roll the $ into a new card upgrade in the next two years no questions asked when there’s something else that is in stock that moves up Toms hardware GPU chart that I want. *cough* 5080 ti *cough* 60 series. Totally worth it esp not having to bother camping outside microcenter for 5+ days to get good. I’ll be sleeping so good tonight, enjoying my 2x - 3x FPS boost on my new rig!

Brutal. MFG can't turn your crappy 30 fps into 120 fps, it's just not the same as actual 120 fps, not even close. It has 4 times the input lag of native 120 fps not to mention all the artifacts.

With dlss 4 balanced or quality preset it can still hold on a lot at 1440p (uwqhd also) and I am NOT giving away my money to nvidia until they will clearly keeping scalping on final users.
Can it output 60 fps max settings on any AAA game? Then it is ok, it is an absolute monster for now.

We are now at the point where we were ten years ago when we told people to turn off the horrific frame interpolation on their tvs, but with graphic settings in video games. Yes, I know it's different/better than that (in some ways) but regardless, I hate it in lieu of actual gen on gen performance increases we should expect. As an extra? Sure, great, cool.

4:40 This isn't the same cooler as 5090. 5090 uses a fancy vapor chamber and liquid metal, while 5080 is just regular thermal paste and 5 heat pipes. Techpowerup has a teardown of both and it's the same idea and footprint, but less advanced.

I've been running my 4070ti with DLSS 4 the past couple of weeks. That alone is enough for me to wait until the 60 series.
Im glad the 5080 isn't being reviewed too well. It means demand should be relatively low compared to the 5090, meaning I'll be able to get one lol. The gen on gen uplift vs the 4080 Super might be underwhelming, but it still represents a HUGE upgrade for me when compared to my current GPU. I also do video editing and I'm interested in running AI models locally on my computer, and the 5080 has better uplift in those scenarios, it even outperforms a 4090 in DaVinci Resolve.
I don't think the 5080 is for anyone that has a 4070 Ti or better, but if you have a 3080 or weaker GPU it's a pretty substantial upgrade.
I think a real issue is that there is a 99% chance that you will not be able to get this card at MSRP. That also makes the AIB cards that are anywhere from $200-400 more even more ridiculous.
An important point. In which case, people should vote with their wallet, and say I can live without all the bells and whistles of Nivida, and buy AMD. As you can get the XTX at list price. Or wait a few months until March. and see what AMD brings to the table. Might be a great reason to vote team red. During Covid, I was on an RTX 3080 waiting list from EVGA. And finally got mine and paid list. When some people were supposedly paying roughly twice list price. We should all discourage scalpers and weak products by voting with our wallets for saner choices. But I admit it, I usually want the best at 1k or less USD. So understand I am a hipocrite. But still, I think it makes sense to spend wisely, unless 2000 or more is nothing to you. In which case, congrats for being rich :)

I am overwhelmed, with how well my 4070 super is holding up to the 50 series. Being a 1440p gamer who understands how over-rated 4k is and how not worth it the performance loss is for 4k gaming and ray tracing, I won't need to switch for a very long time if nvidia keeps this up.

The heat pipes/vapor chamber and thermal interface is different. The 90 has a vapor chamber and liquid metal, while the 80 has a phase change Honeywell type giddyup and heat pipes. The half a pound difference is probably in that cooling design for the most part. Jeezis! A half pound ?!?!?! Thats pretty nuts actually.
The performance increase is really only because of the increased raytrace performance. IMO the 7900XTX is still better value. but the extras nvidia has makes it worth it if you have the money.

I just don't understand Nvidia. Clearly, they want people to shell out more for the 90 series - but then they go and make the available stock extremely limited. nvidia don't really care at this point - I'm sure a few product managers would have a look every few months, but in reality they sell so many cards to datacenter that gamers are a few percent of their revenue. And what would people buy instead, AMD? Regular folk (who don't follow this stuff closely online) will still buy it, or buy a previous-gen card.

We are in the era of fake frames = performance. GPU's are now in the State Worker Phase - All the benefits with little work. Sad to say at least the older cards actually rendered each frame in a pure state. now it's low rez + AI upscale on top of looping frame buffer + AI to guess what the next frame will look like.

A 5090 was LITERALLY the down payment I made on my new car purchase....car is more useful than a new gpu especially since I have a 3080

I'm waiting for all the cards for this generation to release, including AMD's, before deciding what I want to do. I'm at 1440p and have no plans to go higher than that so even though AMD isn't competing in the HALO segment this time, a card that many consider "mid range" this time around might still be very good for my use case. We'll see.
5070ti at MSRP is probably best bet. Unfortunately, the market is unfriendly to shoppers who wait and that might only leave AMD cards for you. Best of luck!
@TumsFestival. I don't buy initial runs of GPUs anyway. Had multiple quality issues in the past by doing that. My 3080 is doing well, I can wait. 🙂

Except the GPU from my previous computer, my gear is quite solid with a R9 7900 (non x), 64 Gigs, full SSD (M.2 PCe 4.0 for the moment, more incoming) 80+ titanium 1000W PSU, case with tons of airflow with 15 fans + Noctua NH-D15 on the CPU.
The GPU is really the only upgrade I need for this rig to be as intended !

It's possible that were approaching the limitations of silicon and won't see any large improvements for the foreseeable future. Can't really blame Nvidia if the laws of physics are the barrier

@ThePorkchop1787 AI could be the future but they need to close the gap between frames and latency. If I'm playing at 144fps, then I expected the latency to be what it would be as if I was playing at that same fps.
Perhaps there will be an algorithm to sync the movements of the camera/mouse movements in gen 2 of this new AI technology.

Same, I play most games at 1440P 144Hz on my 3090. Sometimes I will do 4K but sitting 6 feet from TV I honestly don't see the difference so 1440P it is.
Unless you like RT and play 4K and play the absolute most recent AAA games then I see no reason. I often find myself playing game that is not high end.

This release is ridiculous! The local Micro center to me only has like 10 5090's for an entire metro area. Doesn't even look like everyone in line will get a 5080 even though 90% here want a 5090.
Nvidia missed a huge opportunity, they could have made a preorder for the 5070 right after the presentation, so when the reviews are out the cards are already sold.

I had my 4090 for sale for a long time, and the amount of offers for 600 dollars I was getting because a 5070 was the same performance, was getting ridiculous. Glad I no longer feel a need to sell it

The whole 50 series is underwhelming, the 5090 is barely faster than the 4090 and the 5080 is barely faster than the 4080 super. What is the point of even buying a 50 series card?

Well lots of people own 20 and 30 series gpus, 50 series can be a decent upgrade for them. Also the 5090 is decently faster than the 4090, 5080 is just barely faster than the 4080 super/4080.

I wouldn't buy anything coming out in this generation. In fact, I just bought a PowerColor Fighter RX 6750 XT from Amazon for $341 for my pure gaming PC build in an SFF case that I just built with a Ryzen 7 5700X3D and 32 GB RAM. The only other "high performance" card that would fit in my case would be a Zotac RTX 4070 Twin Edge, but I'm not stupid enough to buy this card for twice the cost of the RX 6750 XT for just a slight increase in performance. And since I'm building a purely gaming PC with raw performance, I don't need DLSS or Raytracing, and I certainly won't be using FSR. I also won't be streaming or creating content on this PC.
SOOOO happy i bought a 4090. Got 2 years of the worlds best card, and now i get at least 2 more years of the world's 2nd best card and all for 1400 which isn't bad spread over 4-5 years.
Factor in inflation and the 5080 is a lot cheaper than the $200 difference in the 4080 launch price. Inflation has been nuts these past few years.

Here's the thing. Last time I checked, like last week ( late Jan 2025,) you can't get an RTX 4080 super at list price. And we can't get RTX 5080s at list either mostly likely. But in a few months, if someone wants to upgrade from something like an RTX 3080, or earlier, RTX 5080 might make sense.
Thanks for the review, but is the data @ 15:00 with the frame generation on the 40 series cards correct? Why do the lows improve on 40 but not on 50 series? Sounds like awful frame pacing.
It has to do with the way Intel PresentMon sees the displayed frame vs the frame Gen on 50 series. I talked about this in the 5090 review
