I had been using the ROKFORM for the last couple of years and it has been a great product. Recently however I have switched to the QuadLock. My main reason was the case. The ROKFORM case was huge and in order to use wireless charging you had to cut the magnet out of the phone. I suppose the magnet does come in handy in certain situations but I found that I never used it that way. The QuadLock case is much sleeker which is good for me as I put it in my pocket a lot when not on the bike. I also have zero problems with the buttons. I don’t use my phone on flat surfaces so the rocking doesn’t affect me. I typically hold my phone and have the phone ring installed to help stabilize it. I found the mounting system on the QuadLock much more versatile and easier to find that “sweet spot”. The ROKFORM mount is just ok (for me). I also use a wireless charging head mounted on the bike so I don’t have to keep plugging and unplugging the phone all the time. The QuadLocks head is very secure and is weatherproof. The ROKFORM’s head is not weatherproof and does not “click in” when mounting. The magnet also has to be removed from the case in order to charge wirelessly. They do make special cases for wireless charging but not for my iPhone 12pro Max. These are both great products and you can’t go wrong with either of them. Personally, I think the QuadLock is more versatile with more mounting and accessorizing options. Again, I have used both [recently} and these are just my opinions.

My only complaint is that you easily break the black clip on the top when tightening the center screw. This fortunatly doesn't happen on the (expensive!) Wireless charging mount

My one big complaint is that the case is basically shit, its too smooth, there is no grip strips on the sides of the phone so that it doesnt slip out of your hand. Most of my cases have some sort of textured surface on the sides. This smooth feeling case doesnt really feel that good to be honest. I wish they would do something what dbrand does. Put tiny textured dots on both sides of the phone. Then it is an everyday case, right now I just use the case when I am riding which is not everyday

I've been running the Rokform on every phone for many years now. While off roading, commuting, or on the bike, this brand has never let me down. Also, the ability to mount your phone using the magnet while in the garage, or wherever, has been so useful over the years. Great comparison, Rokform has a customer for life here.

As a former ram mount user , this video finalized my decision to go with the rokform. I could not be happier. Mine is on a 2017 street glide with paul yaffe 10 in monkey bars . Very high quality and holds phone very solid . A little learning curve to mount and unmount phone but I am used to it after 5 to 10 uses. Well worth the money. I love it

I got the RokForm, and I couldn't be more satisfied. Great case, great accessories (including a finger ring/stand that clicks into the locking grooves on the back of the case, and a vibration damper for the handlebar mount).

The same complaint is reported by some Quadlock users. As one person pointed out, the problem is not the mount, the problem is vibration generated by the bike together with inability of newer phones' stability control to tolerate. So some bikes will be more prone than others. If a mount has an arm incorporated this may magnify amplitude of vibration. Playing with position of the mount and angle of the arm might help. It might also be helpful to add a rubber or nylon washer at the base of the arm, if possible, to act as a shock absorber and remove some of the rigidity within the system. A potentially expensive experiment though.

Comments from a Quad Lock user:
    1) I prefer a black case anyway, but I do wish that Quad Lock would offer options in color and design.
    2) The design for slightly easier install (Not even worth noting IMO) is what hurts the Rokform when adjusting. I would like to see Rokform change that.
    3) Quad Lock definitely wins with construction material for the mount. Both Glass Reinforced Nylon (GRN) and Aluminum are sturdy, light, and good choices for materials on a superficial level. The smooth, rounded corners of the Quad Lock mount, coupled with the softer properties of GRN, make it FAR less likely to scratch paint or catch on clothing. The Rokform aluminum mount has very hard 90 degree edges that are more conducive to damage from, and to, other parts of the bike. To me it's a no brainer to use GRN for the mount material.
    4) Not only does Quad Lock's case still allow wireless charging, they actually have a wireless charging mount head that you can use so it charges while in the mount. I don't know if you knew about that or not, but it's a game changer when using GPS while riding! I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who will listen. It's just so damn convenient to run Bluetooth and GPS and never worry about a low battery.
    5) My iPhone XS (and prior 7+) case has a perfect feedback for locking and unlocking. I can feel the click of each button very easily, and I wholeheartedly believe that you should try a new Quad Lock case. Either I've been lucky twice, or you've been unlucky once.
    6) (And this is the reason why I'm even making a comment to begin with) Don't press on your screen like it's a damn keyboard! I've had a Quad Lock case for years and I've never even noticed that.
    7) This is not an ideal solution for everyone, but Quad Lock makes a universal mount that you can do whatever with. I have on with a pop socket, and another with a magnet on it. I use the magnet one all the time while watching TH-cam videos and working at my job or playing mechanic at home.
    8) Quad Lock offers a vibration dampener now for their mounts.
    9) I think the center mounting point in the phone case is what helps with securing the phone to the mount on the Quad Lock. The way Rokform has their mounting offset isn't as straight on if you aren't thinking about it.
    10) I think your assessment of value at the end is outright biased. I don't know why you are so biased for Rokform, but it definitely shows. The ONLY way anyone could justify spending $80 more for the Rokform would be if they just had to have a case that was offered in more than black. Other than that, the Rokform either does the same, or worse than the Quad Lock in every category.

I'm using Quadlock and I must say I agree on the side buttons not being as responsive but I've gotten car, desk and bike mounts and I'm very very happy, I also got two wireless chargers and they work great, although Rokform's seems better in materials I'm sure I'd still keep this one, even for the same price. Thanks for all the work of putting together this review!

Thanks for the review. I have used the QuadLock with two different sized iPhones and on two bikes. I actually think the case is too bulky and take it off or switch to another when not riding. The mounting and removal of the phone is easy and secure. I didn’t bother with the poncho as all modern phones are pretty waterproof and I just put it in my jacket when raining hard. Since this video they have released a metal all black mount option (not tried) and an anti vibration mount. This mount was released as some phones cameras got damaged by the vibration- this is not unique to QuadLock but any rigid mounting system. My wireless charger doesn’t work with the QuadLock case on so I just used my wired charger. I love this product and will continue to use it.

I used QuadLock for almost a year now and find myself looking for something else for one main reason: The composite locking face wears and allows lateral play over just a couple of months of constant use. Now, to their defense, QuadLock will send you a replacement because their customer service is great. However, its just too much of an inconvenience to have to email them....wait...swap it out...only to have to repeat the process a few months later. It would be awesome if they sold these parts on their site...but unfortunately they do not. Bummer. I may have to give Rockform a go just because of the all metal mounting surfaces. Great review and solid pro/con for both. Thanks!

Yeah this same thing has happened to me TWICE - now I know that the bigger and heavier the phone - the faster the lock face wears away with that white residue and your phone just gets less and less secure. Switching to RokForm is the plan soon - but I haven't seen anyone point out if the "lock face" on RokForm is aluminum or plastic...?

Thanks for the informative review. Initially, I was interested in the RockForm, but the cost of it led me to this video of my second choice. I used to love RAM mounts but after a scare (I was lazy, no rubber bands on rough road) I started to look. I also needed to sort out a wireless charging solution. Different people use phones differently of course but (1) the buttons on the side? I almost never use them (2) bump/rocking on the desktop? Dunno, I use the phone in my hand or in a mount. But the thick case and no wireless charging on the Rokform - I could not live with that. Plus the ecosystem of Quad Lock is so large, there's a solution for almost every problem. Not quite RAM level but you can interface with RAM, so good to go

With the rokform you can purchase the case and mount separate and purchase a Ram ball mount , which has the same easy release lever as the quad lock. Also uses a RAM mount system so you can REALLY control the phones position better than either mounts stock options.

The Quadlock "bulge" in the back was a deal breaker for the same reason, it also was not compatible with ANY car magnet. It appears that the motorcycle in question is a Harley...vibration is a feature of that style of motorcycle. I am using the Quadlock on a sport bike with the stem mount in Texas. Its been on for a few years and is as good as it was new, and I even have the vibration absorbing mount as well. If I crash hard enough to break the "plastic" mount the "aircraft grade" aluminum will break as well. A bulky case is annoying, its like going back in time. With the price difference between the two you could buy a desktop mount and a car mount and still come out ahead with the Quadlock.

The cases are made to fit one phone model. Also more exotic models, other than the current and previous Apple/Samsung devices are most likely not to be covered. The Ram X-Grip is tougher than most people may think. I have been using it on a motorcycle on gnarly offroad tracks and the heavy near 300g phone never came off the mount. And I haven't even used the rubber tether to secure the phone. At the cost of the rockform you could actually get yourself a rugged phone, which is then water and shock proof.

Had my Quadlock for just over a year now and I never have any issues with operating any of the buttons whilst my iPhone is mounted in its case. Wireless charging also is a number one plus for myself when the iPhone is in the case, it charges perfectly with no issues. The mount is solid, has no vibration issues on my 2016 breakout. All in all, why pay over double the price for an item that just comes in different colours?

I like the quadlock for several reasons, listed below. The key reason is flexibility and customization. If you only want to spend 70 to get it going, cool. If you want to go all in, expect to spend 200$ and up. I went all in, sorta.
    ********************
First, this is my quadlock head setup, that I use for 3 locations.
    ********************
(A)Weatherproof wireless charging head. I ride in the rain, and I hate excess loose wires.
(B)1" ball to standard quadlock head. I swapped the standard with wireless head. Then reused the standard head for my home Samsung DEX setup, where wireless charging isn't needed. it could Be though, if you used wireless dex with wireless charging.
    (C) 1" to 1" ball socket Ram Mount arm. Quadlock sells their own double ball joint arm, but it's a non standard size. If you went with quadlock, you have to stay in that ecosystem. They don't force you. I already had several 1" ball adapter stuff, for my truck driver GPS units.
    **********************
    **********************
Second, this is my base setup for 5 different locations.
    **********************
    (A) 2018 Volvo Semi truck. I have a 1" hand rail near the driver side air vents. I use a 1" bar clamp to 1" ball adapter. With a USB C cable neatly routed for power.
    (B) 05 Harley Dyna Superglide. I'm using some mid bend thrashin bars. I use the same style clamp, as in the truck except chrome. For power a battery tender to usbA, with a 6' usbA to usbC cable neatly routed.
    (C) 22 Kawasaki Ninja 650. I mount it to the stem. Unfortunately the quadlock stem only works with circular stem holes. Kawasaki uses a hexagonal stem hole. So, a hexagonal stem mount to 1" ball adapter. I also use this location to run my pcV, when I need to. For power, I'm using quadlocks battery to USB adapter and a 6' usbA to usbC cable, neatly routed.
    (D) Nexdock 360, for on the go Samsung Dex + Nintendo Switch. I use the key ring adapter, to prop my phone up in landscape. It's also useful for my small hands to keep ahold of my big ass phone.
    (E) Skull n Co Switch dock, also for samsung dex. A simple 2 hole flat base to 1" ball, screwed into my desk. With the wires for the SkullNCo jump gate routed cleanly.
    ****************************
Okay, sorry for that long winded explanation. If you read it though, I truly use my phone everywhere, and try to maximize the usefulness of my NON ESSENTIAL purchases. Which is a luxury in and of it self. I'm a truck driver, who is always On the go. Ensuring my phone is protected and fully charged is mandatory. For my work, and off duty entertainment.
For the intended purpose, motorcyclists phone mount, you can buy what is necessary. Then add more if that suits your lifestyle.
Edit: Oh Yeah! I forgot! The main reason I went with quadlock is the stabilizing base adapter. I'm using an expensive ass phone, and I wanted to protect its camera modules.
So really, the quadlock seems cheaper... but when you fully utilize it, it's easily twice as much as rokform.

I’ve been using topeak ridecase since iPhone 5s. Tried quadlock when I changed to iPhone X but went back to topeak. It’s less “hardcore”, less bulky, comfortable to hold, super easy to put on, and it come with a stand.

However, both of those phone mounts are nice and both have their pluses and minuses, I like the Tech Gripper. This is a very solid and stable phone mount. It can be moved any position you want and you can use any phone case you want. But, thanks for the information, in the event I’m looking for another phone mount.

Nails down absolutely Quad Lock is the one I like. The problem with both of them is unless you have Apple or Samsung, you get just an adaptor that you have to just tape to your phone's case. I'm not willing to trust my phone at 80 MPH to a piece of tape.
Wouldn't it be easier (like, 2 seconds) to just plug in your phone to charge it rather than to drag it out of the case just to use the wireless charging?

Both have wireless charges now. I have moto friends that have both, I will say that the Rokform does feel a lot better built quality do to the metal holders and that magnet is sweet, but alot of my ex holders was also made from plastic and has held up with no issues even after dropping from my bike at 60+ MPH. Still undecided, may let my wife pick, LOL.

I am grateful to you for a concise report comparing the two. I hate when people waste our time with 'opening the box and telling us what we can see'. You just gave us the important facts and discussed only which is pertinent. For that I thank you, gave you a thumbs up and did subscribe. I'm wondering if you've compared the Rokform to the Otterbox and or UAG as phone protection is my main concern. I bought a Rokform because I believe its quality is great, wanted something less bulky than the Otterbox but miss not having the Otterbox's screen cover/holster. In the first few days, my Rokform

I just purchased the iPhone 12 Pro Max, and purchased the Rokform Crystal case, and motorcycle mount to go with it. Prior to this I had the Quadlock case and motorcycle mount that I used with my iPhone X for three years with no issues. The only reason I switched was like you said they only come in black. I really like the feel of the Crystal case, and the mount looked good but I ended up not happy with how the Pro series mount was designed with a magnet. Trying to attach the phone is difficult to say the least because the mounts magnet pulls it out of place. Then twisting it to lock takes some effort compared to the Quadlock mount which was easy. Trying to remove the phone was twice as hard. I think because the magnet on the mount is locked to the magnet on the case. Very stupid design in my opinion. They should have known that would make it more difficult to attach and remove. After trying it a few times I can foresee the case lock eventually breaking because of the strain and force needed to twist it unlocked. I contacted Rokform to see if they have a remedy before I return it and buy a plain black case again from Quadlock.

Apologies if someone has already mentioned it , - but the QLk has an optional vibration damper , which I'll be getting for my Harley Streetbob - as there is a fair bit of vvvvbbration in the bars -but then I like bikes with a rough and raw edge -not some hi tec gadget infested 2 wheel car . So if you ride a viber or rough roads , something to consider .

I've been in "accidents" with the quadlock. All 3 times my phone flew off the bike. The second time my phone was obliterated. 3rd time my phone ended up lost in the water in a ditch and the phone mount snapped. In my opinion, just spend the money and get the rokform. It's cheaper than replacing a phone.

    Quality Review!
Quad Lock must have changed their prices in USA - Quad Lock does not include the Puncho, thats an optional add on for +$25. Quad Lock $69.90 is for the Mirror mount, $79.90 for the Motorcycle handlebar mount + $25 for Puncho if you want it. Still not a bad option for $105.00 for a full kit or $79.90 without the puncho.

I personaly use the Quad lock myself. As a budget phone mount as B B said they fucking nailed it. As far as vibrations go I solved this using and handlebar mount from the RAM mount and buying the quad lock 1in ball adapter. By using this combo it provides more flexibility in mounting and the vibrations are ALMOST non-existent. A little FYI RAM mounts go on sale pretty often and you can get a whole kit for like 40 bucks and just toss the phone mount part for the quad lock adapter IF you choose to go this route.

Hi! Update time. This is customer service related. I bought the wireless charging head from quadlock to use my phone as nav on my roadtrip. Unfortunatly, the rain destroyed the "weatherproof" charging head. I contacted quadlock, and they told me that they were aware of the problem and a second generation of the wireless charging kit was on its way into production wich fixed the issue. I instandly got my money back, including shipping costs, and was told i had the choice to leave it as it is, or buy the (now cheaper) new generation of wireless charging mount. All it took was one email! Awesome service quadlock, you bought yourself a dedicated costumer.

  • @beri232

I disagree. If I’m mounting my phone to my bars etc... it’s so I can use the navigation. Nav uses a lot of the phones battery and the ability to charge wirelessly is a huge asset... no fumbling with a charge cord! The Quadlock system offers this snd gets my vote!

What a fantastic review, shot & written & edited well, very fair.
I got a Quad Lock setup a year ago for bike, bicycle, windshields, house, and, on Black Friday (at their site), the desk mount (w/o wireless charger as I have a 6s Plus. All to say that I'm all-in.
I found that of the things you don't like about Quad Lock (the non-flat back, the side buttons, the default *blue* lever lock) the first two have never occurred to me and don't bother me but the need to replace the blue lever with the black one I want really does. I'm about to change out the lever colors and resent not having the color option to start with -- or maybe if I wrote and asked them at the start they would have subbed in the color/s I want.
Anyway, I also like the rounded corners on the QL case better, and everything feels *very* solid, and well-engineered, and the phone clicks in very solidly, as you say. Also the price on the full suite of QL items feels very premium and I don't have the budget or inclination to spend over twice as much for the metal Rockform.
The QL stuff I got has zero wear after all the time I've had it. The click-on and off is solid. Am very happy I got it all.
Both Rockform and Quad Lock are good choices. Both are expensive. These companies are making bank, that's for damn sure.

    • @mmaaddict78

It’s not the magnet. It’s the vibrations that destroy the optical image stabilization mechanism. Happens often to off-road riders especially.

  • @jimthompson717
    @jimthompson717 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I believe the Rockform emphasizes style over function, but the premium in price is unjustified, based on features function, and durability. So I guess you would be paying for style with the Rockform.

I went with the Quad Lock Pro because it's metal, it's weatherproof, I'd rather have wireless charging over a magnet, I seldomly ever use my phone on flat surfaces, I don't have any problems with the buttons, and it's more affordable.

  • @jamessweeney5179

Been using the Rokform for a year and the phone is very secure while riding however the magnet built into the case has finally started messing up the touch screen of my iphone x plus. The phone seems haunted sometimes clicking or highlighting text! I know it’s magnetic interference because once the case is taken off (which is a pain in the butt to do) the phone works fine. Rokform should just ditch the magnet - it’s overkill and screws up the phones touch screen and compass while attached..
