    This brings very old memory back in 2015 when I first came across this engine cambelt broken, instead I used extension bar and tapped vavles from the top to hear if any vavle was damaged ( that is when I discovered that this cam lobes were pressed on top ) nice one Matt 👍

    As just a hobbyist Matt...to be honest, I have never seen or even heard of that type of Camshaft corruption. Brilliant work. Thx for the details 👍

      Thanks Ian, I learned about this when I worked at Peugeot. This engine is also used in other cars although I am not aware of other types of engines having this method of assembling the camshafts. Cheers Matt

    Have to say I'd never thought to have checked the lobes moving like that. Every day is a school day. 👍

      Once I had a cam and all of the lobes were in a straight line like a Toblerone. Cheers Matt

      Less work and expense and a faster turn around for the costumer. Which is handy because their is plenty of work for me to get through right now. Thanks for watching

    As said in James bond something the old ways are the best . Big repair most people would change engine these days. Well done

    nice work matt like the mod to make the compression tester , they must have designed the rocker arms to break
    if the timing jumps did you notice if it was a gates belt they glue the teeth on seen loads like that and it's always gates belts i only use dayco belts now . cheers

    • @mechanicmatt871
      @mechanicmatt871  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was a gates belt that was on it. And yes when the say the belt broke, it was still in one loop but several teeth had striped off it.
      Sadly it was a gates that went back on. I'll have to remember dayco.
      Thanks for watching. Cheers Matt

      @@mechanicmatt871 should last a couple of years anyway , pine hollow auto had a subaru with a gates kit fitted idler bearing went after 10k ,

      I remember that one, I watch PHAD too. I went to a gates sales event once and they said that the teeth are not stuck onto the belt, they are molded into the rubber in one piece. However it is made the teeth seem to come off. Sounds like it isn't just me having problems. Cheers Matt

    What do you think would be the extent of the damage on a citroen dispatch 2ltr engine if your timing belt broke? Is it likely that alternator pulley would go at the same time? Asking as my Alternator pulley went and the van wouldn't start, RAC roadside said it might have gone into the Cambelt?

      I am only aware of this diesel engine from when I worked at Peugeot, basically the same van as the Citroen shown in the video. Also used in Ford and Volvo. Cheers Matt

    Hi
    I have the same engien i my mazda 3 1.6d. The engine died whele I was driving it and would not start any more. I checked the timing belt and saw alot of teeth was stripped of. Is my crankshaft bent ?

    • @mechanicmatt871
      @mechanicmatt871  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may be worth putting on a belt and seeing how it runs, although I have found that usually a cylinder has a cam out of alignment.
      Maybe it's a cam that slips round then strips teeth from the belt.
      Thanks for watching
