Justin, thanks for the thorough review of the installation and performance gains. We worked very hard to improve air density into the intake manifold. What your feeling is the result. Looking forward to more great content.
I have installed the banks' boost tubes, intake elbow horn, cold air intake, 5" tailpipe, pedal monster, Derringer, and 2 idash gauges. WOW!!! NIGHT AND DAY DIFFERENTS. Install was in my 2021 AT4 L5P.
BANKS makes some good stuff. When I was younger I got the intercooler and pipes for my Power Stroke. Night and day difference. Now I leave everything stock. Modern trucks have so many problems and I want the warranty to work.
The Banks iDash is great. They have a mounting pod that you can spray paint to color match your interior. I use it to monitor regens, difference in speedometer with the larger tires, egt temps, etc… As for this upgrade, the Banks Pedal Monster will spin the tires immediately if that is what you want. It eliminates the boost lag and is a very simple install. This engine produces almost 1k pounds of torque, you don’t need performance mods but it’s fun to do them.
I would highly recommend you change your front and rear differential fluid and your transfer case fluid at 20,000 to 25,000 miles if you plan on keeping your truck for a long time.
I watch that Dave's Auto channel and they're there in Utah as well and they swear by Banks stuff. Supposedly the Banks Pedal Monster is pretty nice too. Only thing is if you have a warranty they'll have a cow. They're into saving you guys with the diesels from the gunk they're forced to ingest and fuel pumps that blow up, high exhaust temps, etc.
Now all you need JB is their Ram-Air CAI for your L5P! I have a MY23 Ram 2500 Rebel with the 6.7 and did most of the Bank's upgrades throughout it, with just a few hundred miles on the truck. I did the Monster Ram Air intake horn, the beautiful Bank's boost pipes, and the Ram-Air CAI all around the same time, because they all work together to maximize the flow of air. Remember, a diesel engine is essential a big air pump, and the better it breathes, the better it will run. I'm a big fan of their dry air filters; they are cleanable and will last the life of the vehicle.
I bought the intake and the horn, however I haven’t gotten around to installing the horn yet. I purchased both with the intent of getting a little more noise out of the intake, and the CAI definitely helped with that. You get a little turbo whistle on acceleration, but it’s really noticeable with the exhaust brake on. Hoping to install the intake horn soon, and get the boost tubes down the line for even more noise, but I don’t have my hopes up. But if you want to hear a difference, getting rid of the stock air box with the resonators in it helps a lot.
Enjoyed the video, I’m a Banks sipporter… have air intake, exhaust, map sensor relocator, pedal monster and 2 iDash in Pod… all great components! Would really like them to release a derringer for newer Fords 6.7. I’m 67, don’t know what "ricey" means… cheap, flashy, silly? I really like the Red Accents, but then again I adore shinny chrome accents and brightly polished aluminum wheels too. The new Black Out or Black Chrome is so bland looking to my eyes.
Justin, Do you have any new opinions for this upgrade? I have a Cummins that I am considering this upgrade. I have heard that some issues have crept up for this upgrade with no other performance upgrades. I have heard that emissions codes have become an issue. My bigger reason for this upgrade is getting rid of the grid pre=heater bolt issue. Looking forward to your response.
Are you deleted? If not how restrictive is the DPF? It seems to me that you’re attempting to pack in more air but if the DPF is a choke point then it would be pointless if you can’t get the air out?
The Banks air intake will change the sound some I am not sure how much with the truck you have but the Fords it does and it would be a great fit for what you just did.
Save the clamps and put them underneath your backseat in your glove box or something. Because those clamps do break in it is a very good idea to have a spare one or even more in your truck. I cannot even begin to tell you how many clamps have broke on my diesel trucks.
Well I had a lot of the Banks stuff on my 2020 2500hd l5p, unfortunately, the dealerships would not work on the truck till I took all that stuff off - then take it in - only for them to say, they can't figure out what the problems are caused by. So I would have to put it all back on. Chevrolet (3 dealerships to be exact) would not touch the truck till it was all the way back to stock. Good luck to you, mine was a lemon.
I like and always use wix air filters. And I use Amsoil for everything. I have got a noticeable improvement with performance with Amsoil signature series. I use Amsoil signature series 5W40 for the engine oil. And I use Ammo signature series, heavy duty transmission, fluid for the transfer case and transmission. And I have done my front and rear differential as well. And ever since I switched to Amsoil for my gear oil, I no longer have the clunky noise with my limited slip rear differential. But I do have a 2019 L5P.
Why would you upgrade the turbo inlet but not the intake? I would have just waited until I had both of them and then I would only have to work on that part once instead of upgrading part of it and then upgrade the other part later on. Modifications do not increase the black book value.
My intent in making this comment is not to badmouth Banks, but i will point out regarding that "flimsy flexible hose", when the turbo is producing boost, the hose in question under pressure which would force out any irregularities in the shape caused by heat. just like a wind sock at the airport. Similarly if it did develop a leak, it would be extremally obvious. turbo air leaks are loud
@@ryank2365 no, i am saying if there is an leak in the pressure side of the turbo you will be able to hear it quite clearly, regardless of which tubes are installed. It makes the same hissing sound as any compressed air leak. JB made it sound like you could be losing pressure (HP) to a leak in the stock tube and it would go unnoticed, which simply wouldn't happen. I think the banks tubes look really cool and im sure they improve airflow, i just don't agree with some of the things stated in this video about "issues" with the stock tubes.
@ Okay. Thank you for clarifying that. I have been anticipating doing the same set up for my 2022 High Country. One thing I often think is, This truck was designed with what it has. Will adding this hurt the longevity of this truck that pulls 13K every other weekend.
