Yeah I love the first movement. I like the way the dotted rhythms on the violins interact with the solo bassoon. One thing I prefer about Vivaldi's bassoon music compared with his violin concertos is the tendency to use the violins far more to accompany the solos, rather than basso continuo only. I think it gives a richer texture. I do like the third movement a lot too. The fugal-style introduction and ritornello is quite unique.
@@Ed_UKation Absolutely. The violins interact in unusual ways for Vivaldi. And it is logical, considering the register of the solo instrument. He cannot use the violins for bassetto in the usual way. So, long notes and short interjections. And at 3:03, an interruption from the bassoon. Nikolaus Harnoncourt said baroque music is always a discourse, the instruments are "saying" something. Here in the most literal sense. As for the 3rd movement, RV 500 has a similar fugal entry in the last movement but it is more traditional. There are quite a few violin concertos with fugato in the third movement also. Supposedly this was a middle of the 1720s trend that Vivaldi had, but there might have been more than one period.

I love seeing the manuscripts while listening! Great idea....I do think it's possible Vivaldi borrowed the last movement. It just seems stylistically out of place but that's not based on any evidence.
Really like this concerto. Great performance too.
I like the first movement best.

Like Del Vivaldi mentioned above, there are quite a few concerti where Vivaldi used fugal style 'ritornelli' in the third movement. RV500 for example.
