Just a landowner / firewood hack myself, and never forget one stuck. Cleaning up after a huge ice storm, friend cutting a tree gets stuck, was coming up from the bottom, so I cut down from the top, and get stuck as well. with all the crisscrossed and root-balled trees guess it had side pressure. Took wedges and tractor bucket to finally free both saws.
I appreciate the videos! I'm physically disabled and can't really get out into the woods, went to Forestry College in Newfoundland but my back started fusing right after, so videos like this remind me of what it was like out in the woods, I miss it badly :)
Can’t sleep. I watched part 1 and I knew I wanted to watch part 2. And thank God I’m a member of this channel that way. It’s not hard to find. I absolutely enjoyed watching this. The friendship, camaraderie that flows between these men I knew all about it, because I had the same thing with some young men 35 / 40 years ago. All 3 of them are dead now. I can’t help but cry about them when I get to thinking about each one. That’s the trouble when you get old. We lose a lot of people and a lot of other folks just don’t seem to wanna get to know you. Loneliness is such a terrible thing. It’s such a terrible thing. But I didn’t come in here to bring the room down. May God bless every man and his family in this video and everybody that reads my comment. And may he bless everybody in that building.
So damn cool!! I could watch you and Anton dump shade trees all day pard, but I bet you don't step to far outta line on Ramone..........that dude looks like he'd fold a fool up a few times
I could watch this all day, love stihl, I have a ms 460 dual port muffler, carb limiters removed and spark screen gone, that saw rips, I can’t imagine how those 500i s run,

Seein antone get stuck makes me rest easy knowin the struggle is real….fallin through standin timber usually would put extra pressure on logs when they bow back and stub into something like cliffs n such..some pretty stumps mens….
Yes those are called a “ fairy ring” most of the trees are sprouted out of the old stumps you can’t kill these redwoods you cut down one and 20 little guys come back up They will grow right together
New subscriber, I live in Northern Humboldt County California in the Redwood National Forest, Y'all rock at dropping them big ones. I used to cut timber until I lost my right eye now I just cut for firewood to get thru the winters. It sure would be nice seeing Y'all wear safety glasses, ya only have one set of eyes.
I love felling, I doubt I could even be considered an amature though. I seem to have some trouble matching up my cuts, other than that I do ok. Just seems like it allways takes me some time cleaning my notches out.
Great video Gordy! I was just reading about the guys from the 1970s and 80s using Stihl 090s with .404 chains to fell some reall big redwoods. Any chance you could rig up some .404 chain to use in your videos? Thanks again for the great content.
Those old saws had low rpm torq and they will pull that big sprocket and chain the newer saws “ unless you’re running like a 90cc saw and up” they wouldn’t do well because of the power is up higher in the rpm’s Everyone is also looking for the lightest saw to pack around too those old guys were a different breed 💪
I’d love to let you build my ol 262xp to run 24” and 30” bar…such a perfect little saw with potential…traded a 390 stihl ready to cut to powerhead that needed coil and put 1 in it an d cut several years and havnt used it in awhile…got a new 362 to try and does good…had 460 12yrs or so and 064…288..and many more big uns…
Eastern red cedar will bind a chain too. We'll sometimes drizzle water from a gallon jug to help lube the chain. But, you'd need a tanker truck of water for those monsters. 😂

It’s a 2 stroke and they love it up high… and to keep chain speed up to make sure it’s oiling good and to not load up the saw and make too much heat in the engine…lugging a saw is horrible for it…if they have to come out of the cut or back off it for a few they will usually blip the throttle and not keep it bouncing off the limiter

@Sawman Bigtreeslayer no, but it's not built out of Redwood. Not a tree hugger, I totally get logging. But I think Redwoods should be left alone. Am I wrong? Maybe

What's the purpose of pulling the bar in and out when bucking up the logs? Are you just clearing the chips?
No everytime you run the bar in and out the curf gets wider and allows the bar not to get pinched in the cut
