    Thank you for dedicating your life to form better and more resilient human beings. I started ballet just this year and I am 34 years old, finding my path in life (I'm a scientist), though I love what I do, something was always missing, ballet, dancing, music just make me feel alive, I feel free and it helps me acknowledge myself, it's helping me quite a lot to refocus into what my aims are in science, all because I am starting to feel complete in my life again. The performance of your dancers was lovely and I shed a tear... Thanks again Georgia for believing.

    One thing I've noticed ballet has really taught me is mindfulness to my body. When I was in PE class someone would hurt a muscle and I would be able to tell which muscle it was and how to stretch it or massage it, while they can't even tell whether it's a muscle or a bone.

    • @melissasmith6762

      And you just assumed you were correct.

    • @totallynoticarus
      @totallynoticarus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@melissasmith6762 I don't always. But surprisingly when you hurt a muscle, you stretch it and afterwards the pain disappears, you know it worked. Or when you hurt yourself and when you massage it you can feel the pain when you hit a certain knot, you know it's that one. Or, my personal favourite, when I hurt my knee, tried to massage it, could point at which tendon it was and afterwards the physiotherapist I went to confirmed it.

    • @melissasmith6762
      @melissasmith6762 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@totallynoticarus Not sure what you mean by 'hurt'. I don't think stretching would help if you pulled a muscle for instance.

      @totallynoticarus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@melissasmith6762 It does to a certain extent. But you can also just take a wrong step and hurt one of your muscles. Like rolling your ankle.

As a 62 year old student of ballet, your talk both inspires me to continue, and reaffirms what I have believed for some time now: No matter your age or physical condition, ballet can only make you better. People are always amazed that a person, male, of my age can be so dedicated to this art form. But I tell everybody who will listen: This is the best thing you can do for yourself, no matter how old you are. If I can do it, I know you can.

    Ballet is really important and it's a lot more than the dance itself. It's the reason I bother to do things after school on a Friday, because I have a class to get to. People have commented on how my posture has improved, I have better flexibility, and it's the perfect thing to keep me fit with my lower stamina and anaemia. I'd argue the most intensive part of the class is the jumps, for sure.

    I started learning ballet last year at the age of 22. I've always had big dreams, but before, I tended to give up everytime i encountered a difficulty. I always felt like a failure. And precisely like you say in this talk, ballet made a big change. I may have felt hopeless during some classes, i've kept attending to ballet (3 classes a week, now!) because I keep in mind that the only way to improve is going on. And it's only one of the wonders that ballet brought to my life... Thank you for your inspiring video !

    I'm 15 and just started dancing a few months ago. These benefits are so real!! My dance studio is a bit different, and they teach dance to anyone who wants to learn, including older and disabled people, and people of all body types. At our studio, progress is not measured by the amount of time you have spent dancing, but by the hard work you put in, and the fruit of your labor. Because of this, even though I've never danced before coming to VOW, I'll be going en pointe this month, and I am so thankful that I get to do such a wonderful thing.

    I'd say both the mother's and father's letter were right, they just phrased it differently.
    Lol. All those things children (and adults) can learn from ballet can also be learned through other activities. And also aren't guaranteed. Don't "send" your children to learn ballet, let them learn ballet if they want to, not for the sake of "building character" but for the sake of them enjoying themselves. Or karate. Or tennis. Or chess. Or guitar. Or painting.

    • @BalancedBallerinas
      @BalancedBallerinas 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Couldn't agree more with you. I believe everyone should choose an activity (any activity!) that lights their soul on fire and helps them get up every morning to be brave in this world. However I'm an expert at ballet and was asked to centre my talk about ballet. These talks have tight time limits and it would have been impossible to address all points. Did the best I could :)

    Thank you. From the top of my crown to the tips of my toes. Thank you Miss Georgia. I had to give up dancing a number of years ago. But yet everything I had learned stays with me. Thank you for showing others how important Ballet classes are. That we are not simply frivolous little girls wanting to wear tutus. Although I highly recommend that every one should wear one at some point in their lives.
    Leotards, tights, if we are extremely lucky, pointe shoes and tutus bring about such a sense of accomplishment and pride in oneself and for our fellow dancers. It is my belief that dancing, lets ones soul find freedom and purpose.

    I often realise that ballet taught me to appreciate the little things win life because ballet focuses a lot on the little details for example the angle of your elbow or the angle of the wrist and fingers. I often see life as a dance. If you don't focus on the little things in life, then the big things will not work.

    Haha dance is corrupt . In Adelaide there is a person via the name of Martine Quigley who teaches dance and she has a media degree . She used to work for new idea magazine. She was using a bunch of people for exposure for a ding productions New Year’s Eve performance at Adelaide oval (Adelaide strikers cricket). I had built up a repour with this woman. She quoted to me after the ding production performance at Adelaide oval that she had in fact not seen me there when she was staring directly at me. Absolute nut case . We were volunteering and this performance was seen as an opportunity . None of the volunteers/non professional dancers /dancers /participants were thanked . I feel like I can’t trust anyone in dance now. I emailed her no response . Felt absolutely terrible and like I had just been scammed by a horrid person .

    i used to dance as a kid (maybe 7?) as well as do karate and i stopped when i decided karate was what i wanted more. i wonder sometimes now, if i had kept to ballet, where might i be right now? unfortunately karate and my job have kinda destroyed my body, particularly my knee and hip. so i wonder about maybe trying ballet again, but i'm worried my body just can't handle the demand

    Here for research finished haven’t had a Childrens yet but I’ve admire the grace and posture of ballet students over the years And I’ve always subconsciously figured that it may benefit them long term outside off the floor in the real world
    The look of the speaker it self proved my theory p
    So figured when I have kids boys and girls a year or 2 of ballet will be fitting for their development moving forward.

    in my younger years, i know i am well and flexible. but my family has no background in dancing/gymnastics/ballet so it was not developed. i am 18 now, most flexibility was already lost, staring at my phone and learning basic ballet. it was initially only yoga. i found it veerryy helpful but it was so stationary (for me) so i tried tap dancing. it helped me learn to shift weight and focus on steps, but it was lacking something (for me.) grace. to be specific: ballerina grace. so here i am, truly inspired. thank you, miss!!

    • @annedashwood5619

      Don't lose hope even if you dance 2 hours a week make the most of those 2 hours if it is possible for you then practice half an hour every day at home and ask your teacher about everything that you think you need to be corrected about .
      if you do this then trust me you will be the best 17 year old ballerina and remember dreams can come true DARE TO DREAM

    She forgot to mention that ballet helps you to be the dancer in the club that goes lower than anyone else, gets back up without using your hands... and all that turning out really gives you a TON of leverage to twerk. CLOUT in the club! Not to mention no one will be able to hold a match to your turns!!!
