    Probably the most versatile accessory to a power rack! You will never miss variety and machine options a gym has! In fact probably better as you can set them & your bench up however you want, whatever angle you want them to be.

    Bravo! Again, where was this when I was working out yesterday. I needed this video in my home gym life. I still think you need to buy the longer trolley arms mount them on the outside and do a real true side by side comparison. Again, for science. You doing belt squats on the edge of the platform gives me an idea for my less attractive longer trolley arms. I really need to start incorporating them into my workouts. They are just window dressing right now. Btw, I picked up some 3D printed plastic end caps for the spotter arms from Aperture Engineering (as well as for my j-cups). They work great and maybe some food for thought for you as well to purchase some.

    • @MattPendergraph

      I can see that... I like the looks of REP's....just wasn't sold on how they're adjusted.... sliding on plastic pads...no rollers.....I dunno....lol... plus the lack of any kind of built in pin to hold it in place while adjusting (having to insert a pin while holding up the arm just doesn't sound fun!!!! Lol)....I get it...they are quite a bit cheaper, which is a huge plus!!.....just seems like they sacrificed all the important stuff just to get the price down.

      @@MattPendergraph Hey Matt! I'm going back and forth on these as well. I really appreciate your video. I do have a question for you: Where do the short arms "fall short"? I am looking at getting these to replace a hammer strength on chest press (various angles), overhead press, and chest supported two-arm rows (various angles). I am worried the short will be on too tight of an axis, especially for the rows. Could you share your thoughts on how the short arms perform on these?

As far as the short arms being too short for those movements....I personally don't think they are (I know exactly what you mean BTW with your question...lol...as it's something I considered myself before purchasing!) Keep in mind...the arms are 35 inches long, which really isn't all that short (obviously they are "short" compared to the long arms, but on their own, I find them to be the perfect length. Hi Matt,
    I've really enjoyed your videos so far. I too have an RM-6 an d am planning on buying the shorter lever arms after your review. I also saw your set up to rig this to do lever arms leg presses. Before I place an order, is there anything else you'd suggest I get....i.e. get a 43" cross beam so you can push them up with your feet etc.?

    • @MattPendergraph
      @MattPendergraph  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome!! I appreciate you watching my vids/glad you're enjoying them!! To answer your question, yes! I HIGHLY recommend an extra 43" bottom crossmember for various lever arm movements as well as two extra weight pins as well if you don't already have them (you'll need something to hold the weights unless you plan on using the handles themselves). Other than that...anything else I would suggest could be potential pickups in the future such as: Monster clevis pins so you can quickly attach/detach the crossmember instead of using bolts and two leg rollers so you can perform the lever arm hack squat if you're interested in that.

  • @shenanigans04
    @shenanigans04 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great video. This is literally the exact issue I’m having. I really can’t make up my mind. If you have the short arms is there any reason to use them on the outside? Can you do power cleans, the side clean (in the rogue promotional video), etc? How is it as a monolift? Is there anything you feel your missing or would be better with the longer arms? Also, I ordered the safety arms but if I already have the safety straps is this even necessary?
    Please help haha!

    • @MattPendergraph
      @MattPendergraph  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! Hopefully I can help ya out!!...lol...me personally....I see no reason to use them on the outside of the rack (if I were going to do that, I would have gotten the longer for sure only because they would have to rest on safety spotter arms either way...which as I state in the video..I'm not at all a fan of!!!)...I've found that I can use them in the rack for all my needs/no issues at all...really the only thing I feel I'm missing out on is lever arm belt squats (you can't really do them the way I show in the video while they are on the inside of the rack due to the rack upright behind you gets in the way!)....that being said...I knew that going in and it wasn't reason enough to keep me from going with the shorter over the longer arms....as far as power cleans/side cleans...any of those type movements...if you are mounting them in an RM-4 or 6 ...you have PLENTY of room inside the rack to do any large movement like that without the worry of hitting anything at all...and unless you are crazy tall, you aren't going to press the arms high enough to hit the top cross members of the rack!!! lol.....as far as safeties...I prefer my rigid flip down safeties over straps only because I know 100% that once I put them in place, they aren't moving up or down/side to side....with straps...you could possibly run the risk of the strap shifting to the side on ya (shouldn't make a difference thought since the weight pin of the handle or the handle itself will catch the lever arm if the strap shifts...but something to think about).....hopefully this helps!!!

    I want them for shoulder press and incline movements.

      Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! I wouldn't have mine mounted anywhere else TBH. The fact that you can set them at various heights by using your straps, flip downs, or safety arms is enough for me to say inside is the ONLY way to go! Lol, not to mention that they can be used as makeshift monolifts the rest of the time.
      As far as the articulating handles, I'd say to skip them! I have them and absolutely hate using them for several reasons! The idea is great, but the execution isn't IMO. They're cumbersome and flop around into your rack if you aren't careful man!

    One more question on the arm length. While I do get that with the shorter arms you can mount them inside the rack; do you really find yourself moving them in and out of it? Most people that I've talked to, they all said they keep the inside free and pretty much have them permanently on the outside.

      Hi again Matt. I have a Monster Lite rack and I have put together the same setup you have but I use the safety spotter arms under the lever arms. The problem I am having is the starting point. Any tips or hacks/ideas for a starting point that is not the base of the front squat. It is difficult to get out of the bottom of the squat with any significant weight on the arms when starting the movement. Any thoughts you have on this would be greatly appreciated.@@MattPendergraph

  • @kgsvv1975

    thanks for the review. The shorter arms are a better option. But, teh longer arms will not twist the metal upright. First, they are mounted into a hole with some give. Second, the upright is thick. Third, the trolley system has stylometric inserts that prevent wear or metal-on-metal contact.
    Still, the shorter ones are a better choice just because they are easier to move and cm go inside or outside the rack.

    For the squats have you considered any means to make the connection between the lever arms removable but at the same time you can attach the shoulder support horns (or leg rollers alternatively)? Would attaching the flip down safety as a means to connect the two lever arms work instead? The flip down will also allow attaching the horns/leg-rollers.

    • @MattPendergraph
      @MattPendergraph  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Using a flip down safeties in place of the crossmember would be the perfect solution...it would quickly attach, already has UHMW plastic to protect all points of contact, it's plenty strong enough, and most importantly...serves multiple purposes!....unfortunately however....it doesn't work...lol...trust me, I tried before ordering another crossmember. The issue with using a flip down is there are no vertical holes...the holes only go through the sides, which don't work (the shoulder pads would point up instead of outward like you need)...the only quick attach solution I could see working properly would be the Rogue Bench Prop (it easily attaches and has the 4 way hole pattern)...I considered this option, but ultimately the price didn't make sense considering it's over twice the cost of a single crossmember!...until Rogue decides to come up with their own LEGIT version...I recommend setting it up as I have it and using Monster Knurled Knobs to make all the connections quicker.

    • @AshwinGururagh
      @AshwinGururagh 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MattPendergraph Makes sense. The bench prop is expensive just to use for this and the crossmembers seem like the better way to go. UHMW tape or some padding on the insides to avoid scratches as well.

Anyways even thinking everyday what to buy..ether the rhino belt squat plus rack or rep fitness with ares or one of thoes all in one functio al trainners like brute force and it comes with leverage arms, weight stack, smith machine, cable system. etc...etc..they are all close to same price about $4000.
    I know it's my decision but if you were in my shoes what would you prefer. I habe 2 lower buldging disk in my lower back so belt squats will be cool I guess. I know rep has a belt squat attachment too. Anyways iam looking for the one that is more versatile

      Hey man! It has been a while! lol. I'm great, hope the same to you! Yeah, I 100% recommend going with a functional trainer over lever arms! I RARELY use my lever arms nowadays, where as I use my FT several times a week. IMO, a FT is so much more versatile. I really like the idea of the REP Ares, but I'd be worried about all the cabling everywhere and the actual size of the rack itself (looks extremely cramped to me). As far as a rack/rhino combo. I have/use a rhino for belt squats and absolutely love it as I too have lower back issues (sciatica). It's honestly a tough decision man!! lol

    Hey what’s up Matt? I have a quick question. Could you use the safety straps to connect to the front upright and the underside of the lever arm to create a bottom position without damaging the finish on the arms? Kind of like using a chain? I am purchasing the short arms and will be using them on the outside of the rack, but I would like to avoid damaging the finish from the 24 inch safety spotter arms if possible. When I get my rack I think I’m going to try this with hitch pins purchased from Home Depot rather than the screws for easy adjustment. Thanks!

    • @MattPendergraph
      @MattPendergraph  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jeff! I'm not sure why you couldn't use straps and be perfectly fine! The only damage I foresee happening would be to the holes on the arms themselves as it'll be metal on metal contact. The actual bracket that holds the straps has UHMW on the inside (all three sides) therefore you shouldn't experience any damage to the outside of the arms (or at least I wouldn't think you would). Good question man! Let me know if you try it and how it works out for you!! Also keep my affiliate link in mind if you do purchase the lever arms if ya don't mind. I appreciate you reaching out!

    Anyone know if these rogue trolley arms will fit the rep fitness pr 5000 rack? I know the dimensions are a tad off. Just don't know if it still works

    • @MattPendergraph
      @MattPendergraph  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They should fit no problem due to you can adjust the rollers/tighten them up onto the uprights as needed (which is what you'll have to do since rep uses slightly smaller tubing on their racks)

      Can I add one additional question to this. Do you think this will fit on the inside of the pr 5000 (41” depth rack). Rogue website says is needs a 43” rack but a number of videos I have seen look that there is enough clearance to mount on the inside

      @@dominicwarren3227 I'm 6 inches away from hitting the upright on the other side when my arm is extended straight out and I'm using the standard trolley handles....meaning....the arm is taking up 37 inches of the 43 inch area I have. Hopefully that helps!
