- I am going deep into the wilderness and setting up a bear tent in deep snow. My location is perfect and sits high on a rock and is protected by trees, so it's nicely hidden. The platform I am setting this tent up on is one I use from time to time in winter. The tent is very easy to set up and that means more time camping and less time fiddling with poles and nylon.
This 5 man tent will be a base camp for me this winter as I test out its durability and strength. I want to see if it will stand up to the brutal NWT winter.

IMPORTANT TIP! In that headlamp, there are 3 AAA batteries. When your light gets dim and weak.....only ONE battery in that little bank is dying. The other two are great! I learned this with a compact AA & AAA battery tester. It’s the way most portable equipment is wired. NEVER ditch all 3 as bad as they ARE NOT! I find the dead battery and replace it with one good one! Been doing this for years!

When I was younger, I'd go off to my dad's cabin in the woods by myself. There's nothing like sitting out in the crisp night winter air and listening to the wolves. But now that I'm in my mid 60's, I just reminiss about days gone by. I did a winter campout for a month, 25 years ago. Time flew by but what an experience. I wouldn't have traded that for anything. I’ve never camped but I spent summers and weekends as a child with my siblings, parents and grandparents at their cabin on a small lake in southwest Virginia. The memories are priceless. I’m very close to 60 now and I know exactly what you mean. I cherish my memories. I dread the day when my mind will no longer wander back to the days of my youth.
Your still young and could still do those today. Many healthy active 75yr olds put there

I’m a 71 year old male retired police officer of 43 years. When I was younger ii liked nothing better than winter camping. Growing up in Illinois afforded -15 20 degrees from time to time but usually no more than a foot of snow at the most. I grew up on a farm with a lot of timber and a lake on the property. We had a cabin on Confederation lake north of Ear Falls Canada. When I was in my youth we had to fly to the lake but since they put a logging road in and you could drive to a launch site on the lake but we had to make a 12 mile trip in boats teed up with us to get to the cabin. I’ve never enjoyed anything more.
I’m now handicapped and don’t get around well but would cherish a trip like yours . It would be the fulfillment of a life time. I’m still able to fend for myself, but it’s more than a walk in the park. The peace and solitude of doing what you did on the video can not be beat in my book. I’m now single and my daughter is married and doesn’t need dad so much any more. I’d like nothing more than to prep and make a trip like yours even if I knew it might get the best of me. I can’t think of a better way to go. Meeting God in His untouched northern woods would be a great way to meet my maker. Don’t take me wrong, survival instinct is strong in me.

I wanted to thank you for putting out these videos. They help me by taking me somewhere else when times get tough at home. I just lost my father in October of 2022 and it was a very hard time for me and my family. It is still hard right now but to be able to be taken away to your world out there in the woods of Canada (I live near Detroit so Windsor is actually South of me and very close) helps more than you know.. I hope things improve for you and your family. Although the passing of a loved one is very painful and requires time to mourn, I can tell you things will get better a little at a time. I'm in Canada too. My parents used to take me camping as a child . I was a single parent and took My kids camping since the youngest one was a toddler. Now they camp all the time. I find it amusing when they bring a friend who has never slept under the stars, in the woods in a cosy tent. Canada has wonderful campgrounds where you can really connect to nature. Ah the memories...

I am very happy to have accidentally found you. Been watching for a while now and when I see a new video I have to make time to set and watch the whole thing. You teach a lot of people about how wonderful it is to put yourself out there. Push your limits. My favorite cabbage dish is something my dad made a lot. Pork, carrots, cabbage, celery, and soy sauce. Just cooked down together until the pork is tender. Always use twice as much cabbage as you think you might need. Happy trails

Nice tent ! I have the UP-2 from RBM and its awesome. Wish that id gotten the medium or large Caminus. The small stove just doesn’t hold enough for a long burn at night . I purchased the large Winnerwell double view and its spot on. Thank you very much indeed

The lone solitude of a cold still night with a good wood fire- just the thought gives my soul peace, the glitter on the snow from the moonlight is just as soothing 😊. The bonus- is when it's cold enough that the trees snap , great video
Of course I watched to the end. Snuggled safe and warm under my comforter with my flannel sheets, lol! There is something so cozy about watching you master the elements and the extreme temps. Always make it to the end cuz I find camping or should I say glamping in Winter the most fascinating adventure to have, I don't like bugs and most importantly I don't like spiders so winter is perfect and I love warming up rather than cooling down in a nice clean space

I'm from Oklahoma and the coldest place I ever camped was Kansas with my daughter's boy scout troop at a gathering called Trappers. Never got above freezing mostly in the teens, regular 2 person tents.

The tent looks like it will withstand the winter weather. Very roomy and cozy with the woodstove. Food looked good. I love camping too and can also get lost in thoughts of planning a new adventure. Being out in nature can't be beat. Enjoyed the video.

How can we not watch till the end. The new tent is magnificient and gives the impression of space and light. Perfect shroud of cover from trees around base. What you make look easy and normal clearly isnt. Keep on keeping on Jay with the great content,informative hints and tips,and wonderful filming. All the very best.

Made it to the end! One of your videos appeared in my recommendations a couple weeks ago. Watched it and subscribed almost immediately. It's great to watch your adventures and what makes it even better is that you genuinely love to do this. It seems so peaceful to stay in a tent while it's freezing cold with a lot of snow around and in the middle of nowhere with a wood stove keeping you warm. Something that I really would love to try one day. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us!

Since discovering this channel, I’ve reevaluated how glamping camping with all the amenities I insisted on having. I really missed the boat, not trying camping in the wilderness. Hiking, setting up, building a fire,cooking, sleeping such a wonderful adventure discovering nature.Will enjoy your adventures to come.

The best parts are the editing and camera shots, its just the right amount of camera time per scene to keep it real interesting. Lots of work to set up the camera for snow mobile coming in, night shots, drone shots. And Jay's mannerisms of how great everything is and how he loves the food and experience is always entertaining.

Hello Jay! Love your videos! I'm liking some of the different things you're doing too! I wonder if you record more than you show and maybe have a video or two ready ahead with different features of what you did you could take breaks regularly. Thanks for another amazing video Jay. Getting to watch your videos and live the outdoor dream through you is amazing thank you for putting out these videos. Right now in my part of Canada it's looking like no deep cold winter camping here so keep it up and show us how beautiful the Yukon is.
Oh and for a quick meal, something I like to take when I go camping is:
some ground beef, (could use stewing beef or a chopped up flank steak too)
a bit of chopped up bacon (sausage is also a good sub... spicy ones work great too),
a pasta noodle of your choice
peppers and onions to taste
shredded cheese
- cook up the noodles first then set aside in a bowl
- cook the beef and bacon
- If you like soft peppers/onions add them next and let soften
- add the noodles back in to warm them back up
- mix in the shredded cheese
- once all hot and melty serve
seasoning I just use red pepper flakes, salt, pepper, garlic, onion powder (I cant eat onions so I use onion powder instead) and a bit of smoked paprika and chili powder and put tabasco on top when served. Makes for a nice cheesy beef/bacon noodle bowl with a bit of a kick. You could also sub in chicken or lamb if you wanted to change it up.

I like watching your video’s Jay, even enjoyed the one where you took your daughter camping with you. And yes I do watch them to the end. But here’s a recipe for you to try Jay. Beef tips cubed, baby carrots, onions, bell peppers, grape tomatoes, green Chili’s. Sauté the veggies in butter, after browning the beef tips then add beef tips to veggies and simmer for 20 minutes and enjoy. Add biscuits if you want.

Wow, imagine this - it is actually colder here in Eastern Ontario than it is where you are (-24 with windchill at 8am in the morning when I awoke, though it has climbed up to a balmy -21 right now). And right now, I am watching your video in a modern apartment building and I have a space heater on (building management, though they deny it, is being stingey with the heat this winter). It is positively nippy in here. Fortunately..., I have the glow of your wood stove to keep me warm (psychologically).
