Honestly, the viral version doesn't hold a candle to your dad's technique. It's so gentle and precise. Working with the fruit's structure to reveal its natural aesthetic is infinitely more satisfying.

I personally eat the pineapple core as well. It blends easily in a smoothie. The core of the fruit contains many beneficial nutrients. Don't throw it away. I freeze the pieces and use them in smoothies.
You can use the peel and core for a vinegar I will try and make a vinegar out of it and use it for culinary uses
Or at least place in a pitcher of water in the fridge!
Cores are my favorite part to eat as is.

There’s an old saying from Srilanka, ‘a stingy man can’t cut a pineapple’. Self explanatory but for those who couldn’t figure out the meaning: because you need to cut a lot of the skin and flesh of the pineapple to ensure all the eyes are removed. A stingy man would feel this is a waste, but unless it’s properly cleaned you can’t enjoy the pineapple :)

Pineapple KILLS my super sensitive mouth so what I do is...
Chop it all up as you would then rinse it in a strainer under cold water. Really rinse the hell out of it. Refrigerate it overnight and VOILA! Sweet and non painful pineapple :) ♥
Edit: I cant believe what a response this has gotten! I am soooooo happy to hopefully have helped some of my fellow gentle mouths to enjoy the amazing pineapple again! I was so happy when I learned this tip, I wish I remembered who taught me :)

@@pandoravex4791 She mentioned in the video that pineapple juice is a meat tenderizer / acid. Some people are more sensitive to it than others. I use to and probably still do get bad cold sores every time I eat pineapple and the pineapple juice touches the corners of my mouth. It, banana, and dragon fruit are my favorite fruits, so, yeah. I have to be careful when I eat it.

Me too! It makes little bumps in my mouth that really hurt. I'm definitely going to try this and see if it helps. I stopped eating it because it really aggravated my mouth!

Huh, for some reason I thought this was something only is Jamaicans did.
In Tobago where I live we boil the skins and core,let it cool sweeten the liquid adding some cinnamon and ground cloves, strain, it makes a lovely drink on ice.

Yep, pineapple has enzyme that breaks down proteins. That's why it's used in meat tenderizer. And also if you eat too much your tounge may start bleeding.

That's ok. Classification of fruits is not a common knowledge. You have to know the anatomy of the flower and as well as the fruit itself to identify its classification. And fun fact: Avocado is a berry as well.

I love all the extra information in your video! I learned now to take a pienapple apart this way as well al learning lots of information about a pienapple I never knew. I'm definitely planting the leaves and see what happens!
I love pineapple, though I like it to remain as fresh as possible, so I never cut an entire one apart at once. For a realistic approach if you only want a bit at a time, or are just one person in a household, slice off the part attached to the crown. Then, slice a reasonably thick ring from there. Leave the bottom intact. Cut the ring in half and remove the core in a triangular shape way, leaving the skin entirely intact. Eat the pineapple ring halves as you would watermelon with the skin on. This ensures you are eating as much of the pineapple as possible without waste and also, the closer you eat the pineapple to the core, the more bromelain you get, which is beneficial. Now store the rest of the pineapple fruit exposed side down on a simple plate in the fridge, with no need for plastics, foils or any other nonsense. When you want more pineapple, repeat the process straight from the fridge. Fruit stays fresh and tart for several days. Pineapple is too delicious to waste and fruits cut too early lose vitamin and nutrient content, do not do that.

If it ripens from the bottom up, wouldn't it make more sense to eat it from the bottom up if you are just one person? Just cut the bottom peel off in as thin a slice as possible and sit the cut side down on a plate & keep cutting rings/slices off every time until you get close to the top then maybe remove the leaf part of top couple slices so you can root & plant it?

Your dad's technique is what fruit vendors everywhere use here in my country. It's a well-established technique for cutting pineapples over here.

My Brazilian husband cuts his pineapple like this to make Brazilian grilled pineapple.
In the Philippines, if you buy a pineapple in a palengke(wet market), the seller will actually cut the pineapple for you doing this method

wow here in Greece we have it all year round, it's actually wayyyy cheap around this time of the year (November to April) because nobody buys them
Is there a season? Because they grow in tropical climes, they're probably available all year. The best one I ever had was in Hawaii. At the moment I live in New Zealand, and can buy pineapples from the Philippines most of the year.
When the pineapple is almost ripe, I put it whole in a heavy glass pitcher upside down over night. It redistributes the sweet juices to the crown which tends to be less ripe. This way the pineapple has a more even ripeness throughout when I cut it up. If the core is too chewy to eat, I cut it into sticks to use as cocktail stirrers.

My mum lived in Fiji for a couple of years when she was young and this is how she taught me to cut a pineapple. It never occurred to meet that there was another way to cut it until I saw my husband hack into one 😂

When I cut the core out, I chew on it like I would a corn on the cob to get all of the juice out. One of my favorite things.

Clean as much of fruit off as you can and leave to dry for a day or two. Then gently pull off the bottom leaves until you expose little root nubs at the base of the top. Plop that in soil or suspend in a small cup with water. The tops allowed to root in water will grow faster, but they can be tedious because you have to change the water almost daily, filling it to the sane level, or else they will rot. The tops I plopped in soil, I put in a shady part of my yard or in the corner of a room with decent indirect light and only water when dry like with any other plant. They will take longer to root, you can give them a little tiny tug upwards every once in awhile to test if they have rooted. Although they take longer to root, because their root development is relatively undisturbed, I have found these plant to be better growers in the long run compared to the water rooted tops. However both methods work to grow your own pineapple plant! Happy planting!!

@@Birdbike719 it grows a clone of the mother plant. The fruit won't be as big as the ones you find in the store, and it will take a few years for the plant to mature, but you can allow the fruit to ripen fully on the plant and it will be the best pineapple you've ever tested. The reason store bought pineapples are so acidic is because they have to be picked far too early. So the pineapple will never get as sweet as it can be, just less acidic. While it sits on your counter top "ripening" the acidity level drop and the sugars ferment. Home grown pineapples can be picked off the plant when yellow and eaten that day. It's mindblowingly delicious. You'll begin to plant every pineapple top like me ☺

My Jamaican granmother would save the skins and other cut pieces to make a fermented pineapple drink. The skin has a natural yeast that makes fermenting very easy!

So maybe you didn’t eat enough fruit and vegetables in the first place. Also an average of 2 cups of fruits is recommended everyday and spaced throughout the day
@@MiniNinja258 nah pineapple is not recommended in the 1st trimester cus it might cause a miscarriage and by the 3rd trimester, it helps push you into labor.

Yea don’t eat too much and I think it’s bad to have it sit in stomach at night. Probably dissolve a hole in your stomach so maybe just a cup is okay not too much and eat other things to go with it

@@MiniNinja258 soak it in salt water for around 15-30 minutes. then you can eat it but if you don't want the salty taste, you can first rinse it in water
@@MiniNinja258 human organs are surprisingly resilient and constantly regenerating. Remember, the stomach is literally a bag of acid. It'll probably be fine. A good idea to clean the mouth before sleep though.
MikeW19 that’s actually impossible since stomach acid has a much lower pH than the pineapple. However if you eat a lot (emphasis on a LOT) it can possibly cause your mouth to bleed

When we went to the Dole factory in Hawaii they told us if you pluck out one of the leaves from the top it is ripe if the leaf comes out easily. They demonstrated that a ripe pineapple could not be picked up by one of the leaves. They also had water fountains there that pumped out pineapple juice. At the end of the tour, you could sit around and eat freshly cut pineapple!

Behind the pineapple' s eyes are little seeds. I grew several of them they look like little sesame seeds. Pick them out, dry them for about week, then plant the seeds. Enjoy if you love gardening & plenty of pineapple's... lol
