    thank you for your reaction and for being vulnerable with us. Mamamoo has also helped me through a really dark time in my life this year, so I am very thankful to these women, and I'm so glad that their music is touching other people's hearts as well. Their US tour really gave me something to look forward to. I hope you'll talk about your concert experience in a future video.
    Like you, I can't listen to LMM unless I'm in the mood for it because it taps into really deep and intense emotions that I may not be prepared to handle in the moment.
    Watching the Twit dance video made me realize that Hwasa truly dances with her entire body, down to her fingertips. She may not be the technically best dancer, but I believe it was Lia Kim (a choreographer at 1MILLION Dance Studio) who said that Hwasa makes her choreos come to life. She's a true performer and entertainer.

      Music is my therapy. I can always find a group or song that matches my mood to help me process it, then find a different group or song to uplift and work through it. Mamamoo is another group I will lean heavily on for this.
      LMM is an anthem song for those battling with their inner demons (whatever those demons may be at that time). For me, because I accepted the abuse as my fault throughout the years, I have always been my own worst bully. That is why this song hits me as hard as it does because I know what it is like and the days I catch myself being my bully and realize it and stop. That moment of peace she finds at the end, I, too, understand.
      The Twit choreo is super fun, and I find myself doing her shoulder shimmie without even realizing it, lol!

    I'm working from home. Having this reaction video of yours running in the background.
    As LMM was playing, I wasn't watching youtube, just hearing the song... and tears started to roll down my face.. LMM isn't just a song, as far as I'm concerned it's a blood masterpiece. And yes, I know what you mean. Hearing this song, I too would just want to hold her in a big hug.
    The reason I love Mamamoo is because they aren't just songbirds, they don't just sound fantastic. They are very actively involved in the lyrics, the staging, the MV's etc.
    There are lots of good songs around by other groups but in most cases the singers just sing what they are instructed by the company. Stand there, move this way, sing this (or lipsync that on stage), look pretty, say what we tell you, do what we tell you, act like we tell you and for the rest STFU.
    Where as Mamamoo members seem to have way more freedom including artistically and they can really sing from the heart, and oh boy.... at times, it hits freaking hard.

    • @seattleinsomnia
      @seattleinsomnia  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, that is why some of the newer generations, I am having a harder time really vibing with because of exactly that. It feels like cookie-cutter pop. It's not that they are bad. They just feel like the next group.

      LMM came up when I was getting my bike off my commuter bus today, and I couldn't pause it. My heart just gave, and my eyes started to water. I had my sunglasses on, so I don't think anyone noticed, but every time it comes on, it hits me.

      Only mamamoo have the power to anchor out the emotions when they sing, like their song gogobebe said “It is Okay to be not okay” just let out the emotion, nothing wrong with it

    I'm OT4 and I honestly love all Mamamoo's solo albums, Maria by Hwasa, Redd by Wheein and Dark Side of the Moon by Moonbyul are amazing albums, and Solar's are also very good, plus you never know what wait from her. But for me so far the best has been 6sequence by Moonbyul, that album is a masterpiece, everything is super well thought out from the concept that reflects the story of a loving relationship from beginning to end where each song represents a stage of the relationship Right down to the collaborations and the deep lyrics of the songs, which by the way were almost all written by Byul, she really shined with this album. I recommend that you react to it next Monday, react to the songs in order so you get the concept and also all the songs have videos with subtitles.

      6sequence is going to be part of my Support of Pride month week, which just happens to be next week. My schedule may be a little off because I'm going out of town for Mamamoo's Oakland concert. I may get a tad bit behind and have to play catch up. But it will be up next week.

MMM always wear heels dancing in their mvs and performance in the early stage of career coz they wanna look taller on stage. ha. They have in house dancer but MMM can have their own dance crew like in "Maria" in these few years onwards.

    I was just watching some old Mamamoo King Of Masked Singer episodes. After Hwasa performed a cover of BIGBANG's Bang Bang Bang she was challenged to sing snippets of other songs and among them she sang a snippet of Edith Piaf's Non Regrets in French, or Hwasa's version of French. Just then it dawned on me that Hwasa's voice is perfect for most French songs.

    Another thing I've thought about is why I enjoy reaction videos.
    To me the most important part of a reaction video is that it gives me the opportunity to experience something a bit like if I listened to it the first time again. This only works with reactors that I can relate to on some level however.
    I enjoy analysis and commentary, but thats actually secondary even if its a great way to discover new things about music you've liked a lot.
    My point is... you being emotional... thats relateable, so thats actually one of the reasons I like your reactions (And the main reason I actually watch them to the end,)

    Maria is my 2nd favorite MMM EP after the group's Blue;S. I lucked out and won an autographed copy of Maria in a random drawing. Most of the songs were produced by her usual collaborator, songwriter/producer Park Woosang, who's done a lot of songs with MMM over the years. He left RBW about a year or so ago and is now working for another label. Kidding was produced by well-known rapper/songwriter/producer Zico and Why was produced by the co-ed duo Cosmic Sound and Cosmic Girl, who've written & produced a lot of songs with Mamamoo.
    The intro is gorgeous and a perfect way to begin the album.
    As you may know Hwasa won the 2020 MAMA solo dance performance award for Maria, beating out nominees such as dance legend Taemin of SHINee. She's very close to her dancers and they clearly love working with her. She's a deceptively good dancer, in that she's not even a member of the semi-official dance line in a group that's not known for their dancing to put it politely.
    As a footnote to your tangent on female dancers I don't focus much on dance by girl groups but I was impressed by a couple gg's who did dance covers of BTS and other boy groups. If you want to see girls who bring a lot of power, precision and passion to their dancing check out Girlkind's cover of Fire in 2018 and The Arc's cover of Boy in Luv way back in 2015. BTS uploaded a reaction vid to The Arc's cover that's worth watching too (it has subs).
    DPR Live is the stage name of the rapper featured on I'm Bad Too. He and Hwasa have done several songs together. She features on his song Hula Hoops and they both featured on Uhm Jung-hwa's Hop In. He's one of my favorite k-rappers and I highly recommend you check him out. I'd start with his slinky song Martini Blue. DPR stands for Dream Perfect Regime, which is a both a label and a collective of musicians and visual artists including DPR Ian and DPR Cream.
    LMM is also my favorite Hwasa song. As I probably mentioned when you reacted to it LMM was my pick for 2020 SOTY. I'm not religious but I call the hopeful, comforting feeling she was talking about a moment of grace, by which I mean an act of supreme generosity when an artist reaches out to you through their pain and sorrow and shares their hope and determination to keep going despite it all. Since you're also an ex-theatre nerd I'd compare LMM to the audacious double moment of grace in the last two scenes of Angels in America when Harper describes her vision of the souls of the dead floating up to repair the ozone layer and Prior blesses the audience at the very end of the play.
    Fyi, Twit is a bonus track on the cd and is not included on the digital version of the album.
    Final note. Hwasa started working on a solo album a while ago but nothing came of it and it's probably not a coincidence that she hasn't released an album since Park Woosang left RBW. I won't be surprised if she moves to the company he's currently working for when her RBW contract expires in a month.
    Moomoos are awesome but it's beyond awesome if a moomoo you don't even know is funding your concert experience. It's a fitting reward for the passion you have for their music. Enjoy the show.

      @@seattleinsomnia Maria was easily the best album I heard in 2020 even tho it's just an EP. Not that I listen to a ton of albums these days, partly because most pop music is a disposable commodity with a short shelf life. That's nothing new but imo it's especially true with kpop. Maria was built to last.

    Maria album have 2 version of photobook, I only got 1 of it. Actually RBW music producer is the best, all the song they produce is good, so all they side B song is good too. All mamamoo solo song produce out is high quality. Mamamoo is amazing person, they always give positive vibe while giving their truth self without hiding (even sharing their downside) and show us how to climb up from a fall. We can’t chose where we born but we can choose how we want to live, it is our own choice.

  • @maxwestin1681
    @maxwestin1681 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I started pondering what it was that made me fall for Mamamoo a while ago.
    The answer I came up with was that as someone who has a large emotional buffer and usually feel emotions as if from a distance, in manageable pieces, Mamamoo is a group which, both as a group and individually, makes me feel in a way I haven't felt in years.
    I've said, most of my life, that the difference between a good musician and a great musician is that a great musician is personal first and technical second. It's easy to "hide" behind tecnique and interpretation, but to be a great musician you must have the courage to not do that but rather let your personality shine. Their incredible ability to do this is what makes Mamamoo stand out to me.

    • @seattleinsomnia
      @seattleinsomnia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a good way of putting it. That is the gift I refer to when I talk about these ladies. They all are gifted. They can put their emotions into their music and convey them in a way that everyone can understand them. But they seem to transcend beyond that level of understanding for those who open up to them. I am not normally a pseudo-science type of person, but I do think that music is special. There is a reason most religious organizations and cultures dating back millenia have music in their historical records or passed down through oral tradition.

    • @maxwestin1681
      @maxwestin1681 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trancend beyond that level... Maybe... All I know is that there is a lot of music that makes me feel things,, but Mamamoo succeed in making the feelings a lot more personal than I've experienced listening to others.

    18:38 Imma put this out there. You have Gfriend to thank for levelling up girl group choreography. Boy groups have had difficult and interesting choreo since SHINee debuted in 2008, but girl group dances tended to be pretty easy until Gfriend crashed onto the scene and the whole industry did a fricken double take 🤣. There was this whole stigma that girl groups weren't as good at dancing as boy groups.
    Even after Gfriend debuted the stigma remained for a long time. I remember Kai from Exo saying that Gfriend's choreo was easy (I love him, but side-eye lol).
    As someone who has learnt both boy group and girl group choreo, they are both equally as difficult in different ways. You need a lot more stamina for BG choreo, but GG choreo is more difficult to make look good with subtler movements.
    ...I've gone on a tangent woops. Anywho, yeah BPs choreo is pretty easy but Lisa is amazing! YG have never been super interested in choreo tbh.
    Dreamcatcher have some really difficult choreo and they always nail it. Mamamoo have definitely upped their game post Gogobebe tbf, but they are still predominantly a vocal group.
    For girl groups with good and difficult choreo I'd add Loona, Itzy, Everglow, CLC and one of my absolute favourite dancers in kpop: Chungha! Dream of You and Stay Tonight are 👨‍🍳💋

    • @seattleinsomnia
      @seattleinsomnia  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the tangent! I appreciate the info. Gfriend is a group that is on my list of groups to check out. It just might be a little while so I can dig deeper into the groups I have just discovered. The other GGs are on my list as well.
      I agree that both BGs and GGs choreo have equal difficulties. I have seen some variety clips of GGs doing BG choreo and vice versa. Dreamcatcher, being one of the groups that, IMO, nailed it (minus doing any flips or other trick type moves because that isn't their thing and wouldn't expect that from them) but even did the suave swagger details just as good if not even better than the original, which I found interesting.
      I personally haven't done intense choreo, but I have friends who are members of dance crews and I went to their competitions and practices and have a pretty decent understanding of dance techniques. Show choir and music theater choreo was usually basic to intermediate depending on the show and choreographer's routine they created.
