    At the end of Maria MV, Mamamoo showed up, Showing that when Hwasa was in her deep negative thoughts and struggles she has MAMAMOO at the end of the day. Definitely, 1 of the highlights of the MV for me

    LMM is such a powerful song! Recently, at the SBS Drama Awards hwasa changed her performance songs in order to make a tribute to the passed actor Lee SunKyun by singing LMM ❤️‍🩹. All the actors who attended to the event were so touched that they were holding back tears..
    Anyway I recommend you watch the video of the making of Maria ( th-cam.com/video/DusPcVrtxn0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Ax9NsFWsLFvB6lNI ), it's very interesting because it's a sort of documentary where the creation process of this album is followed..
    Last but not least, thank you for the reaction !

    One of the greatest things I appreciate from your reactions is how thoroughly you can pick up the nuance and meaning behind the song and video! As always looking forward to your upcoming reactions, we're only scratching the surface of Mamamoo's solos :)
    On a side note, Hwasa actually performed LMM (which stands for Lost My Mind) live very recently. This was particularly special as she never planned to perform it, and in fact changed her already well rehearsed stage to LMM to honour the late actor Lee Sun Kyun. It was such a thoughtful move on her part and the meaning of the song fits perfectly with the situation at hand.

    Hwasa hurt her back because of her dance moves on Maria. They were practicing and she passed out she was rushed to the emergency room. You can see the patches on her back on the performance video. Even though her back is not fully healed yet, she still performed the Maria on its debut. ☺️

      She blew a disc, and if you notice she is thinner today when she was then, and it's because she started Pilates. She did that to strengthen her back, and her core, so that she doesn't do anymore damage to her back, and prevents further damage in the further.@@SylverReacts

    DPR Live is actually the name of the artist. He is part of DPR or dream project regime and all members use dpr in front of their names, dpr ian is another well-known member
    dpr live and hwasa have several collabs, including his song "hula hoop" with both hwasa and beenzino. The two have very good chemistry together and that 'i got your back' feel from him is definitely not just in the lyrics (though, per usual, there was a lot of shipping of the two)

    LMM is a great song. My favorite from Hwasa. I've listened to this song before I even knew Hwasa or Mamamoo. It's just soothing. The arrows in the video, I feel like, is a representation of the criticisms she faces. A lot of them comes from the public(outside), some even penetrate the supposedly safe comfort of her "home" (meaning criticism from people close to her)...but of all of that, the one arrow that hits her is the one she fired herself. Which for me, meant that the criticism you give yourself is always the one that will hurt you the most.
    Like, it doesn't matter what other people think, not even those close to you who you love so dear...but what you think of yourself is what can make or break you. Like the whole theme of her album Maria, she's saying to love yourself, be kind to yourself, to forgive yourself...because if you don't even love/care for yourself, how can anyone else? Who can? Nobody else.

    Yeah, LMM is an entire movie.
    All the hate she gets was not new for her when they debuted, she has been hated on before she even tried to go into K-Pop simply for her appearance, obviously getting judged before anybody heard her awesome voice. She learned a long time before debut to be able to handle it. She has had a flat learning curve.
    One reason for how and why Mamamoo have always seemed like a 'mature' group is that the maknae (people often forget that Hwasa is the maknae), the gentle softie, the baby, the Queen of Hugs, the one who the rest should be protective of, is likely the most well-prepared to handle unwarranted hatred. How sad is the state of the world since we know that sort of bullshit happens to her, of all people, every day? And she is hated more than any other member of MMM.
    Other Idols have a STEEP learning curve because they didn't get hate until after they debuted. That's really rough, having to learn to handle it late. Getting hate like that should NEVER happen, of course and a lot of people don't expect it, they get blind-sided and don't know what to do with it or about it.

    • @SylverReacts

      @@SylverReacts Agreed, 100%. I am sure there are Idols who are sort of jerks but still do the job. Maybe they 'deserve' hate sometimes. NOBODY in the K-Pop Industry deserves hate by hundreds of thousands of people at a time. Only very few people on Earth deserve that sort of shit and they must be tyrannical world leaders or mass murderers or slavers (some tyrannical leaders are both).

    Hwasa went out on her own and used a different company than zany bros (the usual for rbw artists) to do the mv for "lmm". Since then, wheen has been using the same company for her own solo mv production, too. Just 2yg things

  • @kalaksed
    @kalaksed 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    One big, easy to miss thing from "maria" that i surprisingly didn't see in any of the comments is how much of the mv was influenced by 'malena', an italian movie hwasa resonates strongly with. (Easy to miss because so many of us haven't seen any italian films at all, let alone that specific one). It is an incredibly poignant movie and i'm glad hwasa put it on my radar, but if youbdo decide to check it out, bring tissues
    The movie is about a beautiful young woman in a mountain town who all the men drool after and all the women hate because of how the men react. She winds up kind of losing her mind, chopping off her hair and moving to the big city. There's a lot more to it, of course
    The guys offering to light a cigarette for hwasa and hwasa caressing the scissors are both direct references to the movie, with several more subtle ones appearing throughout

  • @Syboutszen
    @Syboutszen 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Many keep suggesting the DDKTV video for explaining Maria/LMM. Which is a great source for much of the meanings missed by those of us outside Korean society. I don't think it's perfect though. There things that David doesn't get that are Hwasa specific. Your reference to the line Whee, comfort me is one. Yes she is talking about the wind in previous lines, but there is no doubt among moos who Hwasa turns to for comfort, for strength in difficult times. And vice versa. Hwasa is amazing at layering meanings into her songs and even the MVs. But I think you deciphered the meaning of the songs pretty well on your own. Hwasa performed LMM for Dingo's Musicgraphy. It's a beautiful rendition and of course her interview at the end sheds additional insight into the song. It probably would have been safe to have included it here.

    As far as the arrows go in LMM, you're correct regarding them being the words of haters and the media. But as far as the one she aims at herself, I viewed it more as it meaning that her own words are the ones that hurt her the most. She can hide and protect herself from the awful things others say about her. But when it comes her own mind, those same words actually hurt.
    I love seeing reactions to LMM so much. It's so fascinating because everyone reacts the same way. There's always a few comments at the start about it being beautiful scenery/cinematography and how amazing she sounds. And that's it. It's impossible to form words after that because the song and the message are just so breathtaking. Hwasa is such an incredible artist. She can leave you speechless with her talent and her vulnerability. I feel like there are so few artists that are truly vulnerable like her. It's hard enough to be honest with yourself, let alone share that honesty with the world.

    LMM = Lost My Mind.
    Hwasa said one day after work she went home and suddenly had hard time breathing and she cried a lot, she felt uneasy about her future and couldn't think of anything happy. She felt like throwing up and just wanted to run away. She wrote how she felt in LMM lyrics.
    Cyndi Lauper was in South Korea for her musical "Kinky Boots" when LMM was released and in an interview she said Hwasa's LMM was on her playlist, such an amazing song.

    Un dato curioso: en LMM, cuando Hwasa dice "Whee" en realidad es porque está llamando a Wheein para "reconfortarla" como dice la letra; ellas se apoyan mutuamente, aunque wheein no demuestra lo cariñosa que es ella siempre está ahí para hwasa.

  • @kudgeond755

    You interpreted the opening scene of Maria as a murder scene but it's actually a suicide, as hinted at with the scissors and the drowning scene. Keep it in mind when you get to I'm a B(itch).
    Others have probably mentioned it but in case they haven't, Hwasa won the 2020 MAMA award for best solo dance performance for Maria. Not bad for one of the weakest dancers in a group that can't dance to begin with, esp considering the other nominees included kpop dance legend Taemin of Shinee. I also think it's ironic that she won a dance award for a song that was hands down the most impactful song of the year and a massive hit as well. Should have been the SOTY, tho my personal pick was LMM because it's such a gorgeous masterpiece and it absolutely destroyed me.
    I think I should add my opinion about Mamamoo's singing and dancing rather than just be sarcastic about the things people say about them and bitter about the awards they perhaps deserved but didn't win. I don't put much stock in critiques of MMM"s singing or dancing technique. This is a performance art and the artistry lies in the personal expression of the performers and their ability to communicate with and move the audience and transmit emotions & ideas. Lia Kim and the other choreographers are dance professionals and they're terrific dancers but they don't have 1/10th of Hwasa's charisma. The dance moves are the vehicle for Hwasa's physical expression of the song rather than the be all and end all. Not that she and the other members don't dance well but rather than attempting to deliver perfect, knife-like choreo (like most kpop groups) they have other, imo more important, goals in mind.
    I take Kidding to be addressed to a cheating lover and his new flame.
    Btw, Cosmic refers to both Cosmic Girl and Cosmic Sound. They're a team. Why is a good song but I think it's so overshadowed by Maria and LMM that it loses some of its impact by being included on this album.
    As you eventually noticed, the rapper on I'm Bad Too is called DPR Live. DPR is a collective of musical and visual artists; it stands for Dream Perfect Regime. Other members are called DPR Ian and DPR Cream. DPR Live is one of the few rappers I follow - his discography is terrific. Hwasa later featured on his song Hula Hoops. My fav DPR Live song is Martini Blue.
    As you noticed, in the LMM MV the arrows follow her from outdoors (in public) to the living room to the bedroom to the womb-like private space. The hate invades her life and there's no escaping it. I like your interpretation of the arrow she shoots that hits her and I think you're right but I also think it means that the only hate that can truly hurt her is the hate she turns on herself and that realization is what allows her to face the storm of arrows at the end without fear or defiance, simply standing there and calmly accepting what comes her way like a flower in the rain. I thought you'd include one of the fantastic live versions of LMM, such as the one she recently performed at the SBS Drama Awards to honor the memory of actor Lee Sun Kyun, who committed suicide. Check out some of the live performances when you're in the mood and have tissues handy. :)
    Maria is a fantastic album. It's my 2nd favorite MMM EP after Blue;S.

The nails show that there is pain and hardship that goes with the fame, but the jewels in the crown show there is benefit as well, making it a hard choice. You have a habit of not watching videos all the way to the end. There is a special scene at the end of Maria that you missed.

    She actually does say "f*ck it" in Why. It's listed as explicit. Hwasa don't care. 😂

    Better let you know that you have missed Maria MV last few seconds scene. You have stopped the video too early.

    Actually the "fuck it" in the song Why, it's definitely a part of the lyrics. I just double checked the album on my shelf.
    Now whether or not the translated "fucked up" is in I'm Bad Too that's something that someone who could read korean would need to verify.
