I discovered kpop in general in 2012, not because of PSY (I was being a hipster and avoiding Gagnam Style _because_ it was so wildly popular) but Anna Kendrick's Pitch Perfect inspired sketch with f(x). I was primarily a SM stan (despite 2014's ejection of Jessica from SNSD) until 2016, when I discovered Mamamoo ("You're the Best" was the 1st MV of theirs I saw). As a former choir nerd, their harmonizing immediately appealed to me.
Thanks for the comment! I am a former choir, show choir, and musical theater nerd. I am a fan of Anna Kendrick too but I don't think I saw that sketch so I will have to find it and watch it. The harmonies and their vocal techniques just blew me away after watching Mr. Ambiguous, now I can't get enough of them.
Moonbyul's Shutdown (well, moonbyul's whole 6EQUENCE Album) and Wheein's Goodbye would really be great for your plan to rract to songs of idols that supports lgbt.
I was going to comment the exact same thing. I'd also think including HIP would be awesome as well since that was a MV that really drew attention due to the fact that it was the first time a drag act was featured in a Korean MV (the rock group that alt Solar performs with us a drag act.) and the whole message of that song was in support of being yourself and not letting others tell you how to feel or how to act and being true to own heart.
28:04 Even though I've been a Moomoo for 9 years. Every. Time. I hear the song Sky!Sky! I'm like "whose song is this, Gfriend or Oh My Girl?" 🤣 It's such an un-mamamoo song, it's so obvious that the song was thrust upon them for an ad. Can't wait for you to see the mv, Hwasa is a mood 🤣
@@jessicasarti4917 Right, I forgot that! That explains why my brain short-circuits for a couple of seconds and convinces me Gfriend are singing every time I hear it 🤣 I absolutely adore Gfriend and ngl Sky! Sky! is a bop. I'd love to hear their version. Hearing a song like that come out of Mamamoo's mouths is like some type of bizarre fever dream. Reminds me of Showtime! when they parodied each others songs 🤣
I have been told I need to check out Gfriend and forewarned it is a little more bright and poppy than my normal musical tastes but I am going to give them a listen sometime in the future.
Seeing how much it meant to them just hit me. I understand it, even though, I am not a big fan of the whole concept of these awards, I felt the emotion and them seeing their hard work being recognized by the industry.
37:00 MAMAMOO does have a song that has scatting back in their debut album! The song was aptly named Hello, which MAMAMOO also sang as their intro song back in the 1st episode of Queendom. ❤
Definitely check out the Where Are We Now documentary if you get the chance. It's a long one, but so good. At first, it feels like a pretty standard music doc, but there are some genuinely touching and profound moments in the later half about how things change with time. Going in, I expected to like it just because it's a documentary about my favorite group, but I was legit surprised at how rewarding it all felt. Anyway, thank you for another fun reaction video. Keep up the good work!
I love your idea of the pride month videos, and know there are more than a few songs from various groups and solo artists that would definitely fit that For mamamoo, i saw someone suggest solos from both moonbyul and wheein, and both should definitely be on that list, but for the group as a whole, "um oh ah yeah" should be included. While a lot of mamamoo songs are performed at korean pride festivals and such, that one is pretty much their unofficial official pride anthem Editing to add: whether you watch the mv before this or during it, i'd also like to suggest some live performances of it, most likely college festival ones. Just to see how they love goofing around during this song, and to experience some of the changing adlibs mentioned in the guide
I think going through their discography chronologically is a great choice. I personally like Mamamoo's retro era a lot, even though I discovered them in 2020. Since you enjoyed their intro in "Don't Be happy" (36:00), they did a updated version as a teaser for their 2021 WAW Online Concert: th-cam.com/video/t7wUqLNwX04/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=MAMAMOO And my sincere congratulations on the opportunity to see them live!!☺🎉
Thank you! I am so thrilled I can't stop thinking about getting to go! I really do love their retro era a lot. I will add the WAW concert to my list of Concerts to react to. 4S 4C is on my list and will probably break that up into parts so I don't have an over extra long video lol.
Solar has sung I Will Always Love You a few times, but my favorite is actually a small snippet she sang during an on stage interview here: th-cam.com/video/NbfxL-Nr7MU/w-d-xo.html I just think it's so incredibly smooth and pure. She puts so much feeling into it and it sounds so incredible. She starts singing at about 1:20, I think. The Internet asks her to sing a little of it and she obliges with one verse. Hearing someone sing like that impromptu just sitting relaxed on a stool gives me goosebumps all the way down my neck. 😂 Edit: (oops, i accidentally put the wrong link. It's fixed now. Enjoy!)
Thank you for the comment and link! I will check that out. I will probably check it out on my own time, but I will try to remember to make a comment about it in one of my upcoming Mamamoo-nday videos.
wow! pre debut MAMAMOO is awesome already! You can check out the newer versions of these songs.. in I say MAMAMOO The BEST album.. they re record the songs with all four of them and added MOonbyul's rap verses.. They sang all the parts of the songs...

very curious if you're going to the concert? i went to the atlanta show on saturday and it was absolutely amazing, everything everyone has ever said about mamamoo being good is a complete understatement.

I thin I got a little over ambitious trying to react so much. That is the problem with being a music lover and wanting to do all the things.
Regarding the MMA, Melon Music Awards, I understand where you are coming from, but please don't cut off your nose to spite your face. There has been soo many epic performances by a wide variety of groups and solo artist, that it would be a shame to miss out on them. Mamamoo is punishing them plenty by letting the industry and fans know where they stand with MMA. I hope you would take a step back and reconsider your boycott. I would hate to not be able to see you react to 2018, 2019, 2020 BTS performances at the MMA's, just to mention a few. I always enjoy your reactions, especially to our Mamamoo. Moving on to your next MMM reaction today. I always thought Mamamoo would be perfect for one of those 2 year residency gigs in Vegas. They have so much material and some of their live performances at time are like a stage show. But, I also think they are too free spirited to be tied down to a gig like that.
I understand your where you are coming from, but I know the other groups have amazing performances from different venues and shows that I can still appreciate the talent. I have boycotted "the Show" for how they handled Dreamcatcher and rigging their chance at a first win with their release of 'Deja Vu' and I have stuck to my boycott of them, I just can not support a show that is blatant in their disrespect of any group let alone a favorite of mine. I could also see them in a Vegas residency and people would especially love their Retro era. I am sure people would love all of their songs but Vegas loves their Oldies.
There's a few things in this guide that were incorrect and gave the wrong impression/interpretation about Mamamoo and their company RBW. 1. RBW wasn't being mean to the Mamamoo members. They didn't say they were ugly, they knew what the Korean beauty standards were and told them that while they didn't fit these ridiculous standards Mamamoo would succeed by showcasing their vocal abilities and performance skills. 2. Mamamoo weren't severely overworked by RBW, Mamamoo chose to perform at up to 4 university festivals a day for three reasons, they were more than capable of it, it would help promote the group to a greater audience and they would pay off their trainee debt in around a year. 3. RBW gave Mamamoo the freedom to do what they pleased and how often they wanted to because they believed in all four women. Unlike most other groups in most other companies Mamamoo were given creative, stylistic, songwriting and producing freedom. The bond between Mamamoo and RBW is tight despite many people criticizing RBW for their lack of support when it comes to promoting Mamamoo within Korea and internationally and lack of English subtitles for their music videos and other uploaded content. Mamamoo's 10 year anniversary is next month and their contracts come up for renewal at the end of this year. I am confident they will all resign with RBW for at least another 3 years and be one of a handful of groups in the industry that will be together and remain active for their 15 year anniversary and beyond.
Thank you for a second opinion to the guide. I have definitely subsided my knee jerk reactions to RBW because after seeing other groups and how much freedom they seem to allow, I think it is not as bad as some fans want to make it out to be. I would agree that I think Mamamoo would be more than capable of multiple shows. I was a part of multiple contest rounds and over a very short weekend span when I was in show choir. They know their limitations as professionals. I do think Whee In probably did want to explore other avenues of her talents and it seems like RBW was ok with it and it may honestly just be a stylistic choice to see what else she can do with other producers and expand her experience for a future career after Mamamoo. But I know only those close to her will really know and I am ok with that. I hope they do all re-sign and produce more content. I really want to be a part of a comeback from them.
@@seattleinsomnia Okay I think you already know where my stance is based on our previous conversations, so this is probably my last two cents regarding to the RBW-drama situation. Here is the problem though, I feel like fans nowadays almost immediately jump into conclusions that whenever the idol left the company then it must means that their company mistreated them whatsoever. Don't get me wrong, cause I'm pretty sure there are indeed some companies out there that did shady stuff to their artist. But again, of course we don't know any of that unless the artists/groups in particular speaking on the issue themselves or going on a lawsuit against their company. And none of these girls ever done that, matter of fact, they have such close relationships with the staff and their CEO, Kim Do-Hoon. Wheein herself said that she wanted a new environment, a new experience, which is completely normal and very understandable. But here on the other side, some fans be thinking there must be some sort of crazy conspiracy theories behind all of this and solely blaming RBW, speculating that they somehow have leashes on the girls necks to make them do their bidding, which imo is such a brain-dead line of thought. Again, unfortunately a lot of these people on the internet just love to assume things, make speculations and twist it to fit their own narratives, and then present it as "THE" fact. Look, RBW might not be the best on certain aspects, I think we can all agree on that, but they're not as bad as some fans want to make it out to be.
@winterssong5607 Yeah, after our last conversation, I definitely took a step back and am trying not to have knee-jerk reactions to fan made commentary about RBW until, like you are saying, there are public statements or documents to confirm they are unhappy or feel mistreated. It is difficult for me to not get caught up in a story and not have an instant reaction to something before it soaks in and can analyze and process what is actually being said and how it is being presented, and to what aim.
@@winterssong5607 Very well said. Mamamoo do indeed have very good close relationships with KDH and the RBW staff. You can clearly see that in their Mamamoo TV episodes. The other CEO, much less so imo, however Mamamoo have definitely not been mistreated by RBW or their staff. The only two criticisms I have of RBW are they haven't done a good job promoting Mamamoo very well both locally and internationally in the last few years and they don't upload Mamamoo content with English subs consistently while they do for their other groups such as Purple Kiss. With Wheein I agree she stated she just wanted a new environment and experience but still wanted to be a part of Mamamoo. RBW listened to her and than just letting her leave they worked out a very good deal where she can still be signed under RBW for her Mamamoo group activities and sign with another company for her solo activities. Very few companies have done that. SM comes to mind with 3 out the 8 members of Girls' Generation leaving SM but are still members of Girls' Generation. But RBW have done it better than SM imo as GG have only had one comeback and promoted as a whole group in the last 8 years while Mamamoo have had several comebacks, group activities and variety tv appearances, etc. Another reason why I think RBW is a good company is how they treated Jieun from Purple Kiss during her hiatus and after she left the group. Rather than RBW just forcing her leave the company completely when she left PK, they supported her and kept her in the company working in other areas within RBW and she is happy. The genuine close relationships between RBW and their groups and members within the groups is a supportive and healthy relationship imo.
Love your video as always 😁😁 Most people (new moomoos or just know Mamamoo) has misconception about Mamamoo. They think Mamamoo is just about Hwa Sa who has appealing voice or Solar who belts with no problem, but they forget about Whee In. Whee In is almost underrated even in her old company, RBW, she has been mistreated. That's why she didn't renewal her contract and move to another company that appreciate her talents. As we can see she is now happy in her new company, even her Solo title Make Me Happy show that. There's lots of 'signs' Whee In is not happy in RBW from her solo songs, say Water Color or Trash. Since I know that, I decide not to have bias in Mamamoo. I love all this womans and always says they are 4 talented Artists who works together in a group name Mamamoo 😊😊
I really do love all of them. They each bring their own personality and style that just comes together flawlessly. I hope things get worked out for Whee In because she is definitely an amazing artist.

Hi again mate. I'd like to recommend a Mamamoo vocal compilation that is safe to react to without any problems. It features a much better quality and more recent version of Solar singing I Will Always Love You live among other amazing Mamamoo vocal moments. th-cam.com/video/bHxWC6rQkEI/w-d-xo.html
I will add that to my list! I would love to hear a full version of Solar singing that.
