I have used the seventhstar name for years as a pen name heralding great influence and inspiration from this very album and song. This footage brings back so many memories from that time. I lost my virginity the night this tour came to Cleveland on March 21rst of that year - 1986. I was a senior in high school and unfortunatly this was my first trip to a Black Sabbath concert. I will never - never forget that time in my life
I was there too... right up front. I wish this vid had the laser cross that was behind tony... I remember looking right into the face of glenn hughes as his voice cracked on every song. Didn't care... Tony was worth the price of admission.
I recently became a fan of Black Country Communion and it made me remember this show in Detroit. W.A.S.P. blew Sabbath off the stage. Glen had the lyrics to Paranoid taped to the stage and when the smoke machine came on he couldn't see the lyrics, so he stumbled through them. I remember the crowd not being happy...
They did an instrumental medley of 'Zero The Hero'. That riff is pure evil itself. Noone could sing it like Gillan though. I wish someone else attempted at least. Tony Martin claimed he could sing material from ever album with no problem in an interview once back in the late 80's. Why overlook 'Born Again' and for the mostly 'Seventh Star' then??? Love those two albums.
@masterpatric07 He had lost his voice back in '86, took some years to recover, he said in an interview. Ray Gillen did a fantastic job filling in mid-tour. I love 'Seventh Star'. I'm glad someone taped one of his performances.
This was Hughes in his monster-period, hehe.. I love this singer.. He is my favorite next to Peter Gabriel. I saw him in around 2000, and from the stage he admitted he didn't remember the 80's
The Seventh Sign was a very under rated lp. It was suppose to be a solo lp for Tony but at the last minute the record label threw the Sabbath name on it so it would sell better.
Black Sabbath is a Legend and we love them. Everyone should listen to them. They are one of our biggest influences. Our band Amaggot Bordir owes alot to them. We just added a new video today on my profile if anyone wants to hear something new and heavily influenced by Sabbath.
@chrisdrumz, in fairness to Sabbath, according to Iommi the record company made them call it a Black Sabbath, they wanted to call themselves Seventh Star, same thing happened when Ian Gillan sang with them, they wanted to call that band Born Again.
Glenn is at his best as a singer on "Fused" (the third Iommi solo album, though it's officially billed as Tony Iommi with Glenn Hughes), appearing as a true Sabbath man there. The music is generally very much in the vein of classic Black Sabbath and is excellent throghout, unlike 'Seventh Star". If you haven't heard "Fused" yet, do it, and you'll be amazed, to say the least - if you're a true Sabbath fan, of course. Indeed, Black Sabbath is Tony Iommi! And vice versa...
you are PARTLY correct. they did tour the states in 89, but albeit cancelled the stour 2 weeks into it cuz lack of record promotion. in the uk, they did rather well on tour
They did - 1989 was a solid UK tour. In 1986 shows had sold poorly, which is a shame as the band were excellent. For example, Newcastle City Hall closed the balcony on the night, and those with tickets upstairs were kept downstairs. Even then the downstairs was not full.
Don't forget this was never meant to a Black Sabbath album. It was intended as an Iommi solo. He got pressured into making a Sabbath album, and hence the compromise was Black Sabbath "featuring" Tony Iommi.
It might be on wikipedia, but it's also in "Black Sabbath: Never Say Die" by Garry-Sharpe Young. Guitaristbmh is completely correct. However, that event occurred AFTER the above show in Detroit. Hughes wasn't right for Sabbath and he wasn't in the best shape anyway...Gary Moore got rid of him during the making of "Run For Cover" and rightfully so.
NICE!!! I thought I was the ONLY die-hard Sabbath fan who liked this song!!! Having said that, I regret to say the album was my least favorite in their entire catalogue!! That's the album that should've been called Heaven And Hell!! The first side is fine, the second side pitiful!! The real Heaven And Hell, however, I rank second, only to Paranoid!!
That said, I still think he's a good singer. He was good in Purple and he was good on the Iommi solo albums as well. Just not right for any Black Sabbath material other than the album he did.
thats what they wanted to do, I don't even think they wanted to be called Black Sabbath on Heaven and Hell, letalone Seventh Star. The record company made them and they had to, I guess
I was at this show at Cobo Arena. Sorry to say, but Glenn Hughes was horrible. No voice what so ever. I actually felt sorry for him, because the show went on!
Of Glenn Hughes ability to produce downright useless and annoying vocal sounds, like at 4:38, which have the power to destroy any classic hard rock song, an experience listeners of late DP Mk.IV live bootlegs could not save themselves from, the KLF made good use later when recording America: What Time Is Love.
I would've enjoyed the show(and album) if it wasn't trying to be passed off as SABBATH. Aside from Tony ,the band from 86-92 was in NO WAY Sabbath(aside from name only). Serious damage was done to the name in that period. They didn't even tour the states in '89 cause they couldn't sell any tix(guess rock fans are NOT that stupid). The band should've been called IOMMI and toured theatres or larger clubs.

My favorite of black sabbath... are amazing.
This is such a brilliant tune! Seventh star is imo one of the better Black Sabbath albums. Great riff!
one of Tony's greatest riff.. gotta love Sabbath's eighties, some hidden gems there!
I agree, that album is awesome!! and songs on it are really powerful!!
Glenn you are one of the best Metal voices.
Increible, pensé que me iba a morir sin haber visto un video de esta increible formación de Black Sabbath con Glenn Hughes.-
line up 👉 Toni Iommi - Glenn Hughes - Eric Singer - Dave Spitz And Geoff Nicholls!!!😎👊
I was there!! Joe Louis Arena,Detroit Mi.If I remember correctly WASP and Megadeth were on the same bill. The star of the evening was Tony Iommi!!!
👌👏🇬🇧 Impresionante Glenn Hughes con Black Sabbath.
I was there too... right up front. I wish this vid had the laser cross that was behind tony... I remember looking right into the face of glenn hughes as his voice cracked on every song. Didn't care... Tony was worth the price of admission.
Excelente canção.

glenn hughes is a great rock singer.......long live glenn

Gotta love Glenn's übermullet in '86. The Hughes/Gillen/Martin years of Black Sabbath is VERY underrated.
Glenn Hughes = the definitive Sabbath lineup!
this is a fucking eppic song i just found it the other day even tho i had it for months .
This was Hughes in his monster-period, hehe.. I love this singer.. He is my favorite next to Peter Gabriel. I saw him in around 2000, and from the stage he admitted he didn't remember the 80's
I was there!
..for me the best song..ever
amazing, first time ever seeing it!
Una verdadera joya
Well said! I couldn't agree with you more!
O M G!!! ZERO THE HERO!!!
@mooneclipse81 I love that riff, I love that soung!
Good voice!!!
Yo También... Long live Sabbath; Long Live Glenn
This is a very nice song! One of my favourites really! (In the '80:s) B4 ozzy was kicked there was no bad songs at all...
hell yea!
My anniversary is coming up pretty soon too!! lol Cheers!!
Enjoy =] It's the seventh staaaaaaaar....
I still love DEEP SABBATH with Ian Gillan

actually it was just suppose to be Tony Iommi's solo record, but the they had to compromise and name it Black Sabbath Featuring Tony Iommi
very underrated track

Its so hard!!! To break the spell!!!

well...best riff ever!

watch the rest of the video
this is one of the few times we can see (barely) Geoff Nichols on stage . .usually he's off- or back- .

No fucking way : This is Glenn Hugues not Ray Gillen
seventh star is not a sabbath album!
its a tony iommi solo album that he was made ro put sabbath on,
i can't beleive there's only this live video for this song...not even a proper recording whatta fuck!
@aruizi Glenn has lost his voice? lol.
That said, I still think he's a good singer. He was good in Purple and he was good on the Iommi solo albums as well. Just not right for any Black Sabbath material other than the album he did.
🌚🌚
Is this and the other 2 videos the only known footage of Glenn with Sabbath?
Ian and Glenn were both excellent in Black Sabbath.... better than Ozzy
who said that glenn lost his voice?search glenn hughes with ratablanca 2 years ago. and tell me he lost his voice .lol.
Awesome performance, but one can tell here that Glenn wasn't really used to be wothout his bass; his moves are somewhat odd and unfrontman-ish lol
thats what they wanted to do, I don't even think they wanted to be called Black Sabbath on Heaven and Hell, letalone Seventh Star. The record company made them and they had to, I guess
no way, dude.. they're playing Zero the Hero I don't hear any of Seventh Star
seventh star is probs the best song without ozzy, such a sick riff
Black Sabbath,en su peor momento¡!😢
Glenn is a great back up singer. He has great pipes, but for me, he lacks the charisma of a great lead singer.
sabbath should quit working with ozzy.and put back glenn or tony martin or ray gillen to recover their spot as number 1 band ever.
would have been so much greater with ozzy.
It wouldn’t. Ozzy would have just copied Iommi’s riff as the melody like he always did
Glenn would had been replaced by the incredible Ray Gillen after some shows cause his voice was totally done because of drugs and alchool.
I was at this show at Cobo Arena. Sorry to say, but Glenn Hughes was horrible. No voice what so ever. I actually felt sorry for him, because the show went on!

the voice of glenn hughes sucks!!! perhaps this song rocks!!!!!
