- This hymn, a faithful paraphrase of King David's most favourite psalm, Psalm 23, was a favourite of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and was sung at her funeral service in St Paul's Cathedral on 19 September 2022. The tune is Scottish: it was composed by Jessie Irvine of Kincardineshire (1836-77), who lived only to 41 years old.
God, this reminds me of school, and I left in 1978. Brings back loads of memories, especially in Primary school. Lovely playing mate. Nice to see someone well dressed in their video, instead of scruffs!!!
Thanks. Sadly, there aren't many schools where they sing hymns any more. But like you say, it comes back in later life

I understand Jessie Seymour Irvine composed the melody, but she didn't like her harmonisation, so she asked David Grant to reharmonise it. The descant heard on the 2nd and 5th verses was composed by William Baird Ross (there is a story behind this regarding QEII's wedding).
