      I HATED it when the Nashville powerbrokers changed the name of the Oilers to Titans. Nashville can think what it wants, but the people and corporations with money (in Nashville) have ZERO respect for history and honor for the past. Tennessee has its own patch of Poland oil production. Tennessee could have kept the Oiler name and carried it with pride, but people with the bucks were just trying to make another quick buck. If Nashville had any respect for the past, the damned Opry would still be being played at the Ryman Auditorium, and the Ernest Tubb Record Shop would still be just down on South Broadway.

    I feel for you Houston Oilers fans. As a life long Jets fan, I enjoyed the games played between them and the Oilers. If the Owners of the New Orleans Hornets were gracious enough to return the entire team history, name and colors to Charlotte then Tennessee can do the same. The Bobcats never accomplished anything great and neither have Texans. I'm sure most Houstonians would be thrilled if the Oilers returned. One idea I had in mind is that the Titans can give Houston back all the Team name, history and colors and the Titans can acquire the Texans colors with the addition of white. Everyone will be happy.

    Houston should have built Bud the new stadium and he would have never left in the 1st place. When Houston went to the NFL crying for another team, they were told also to build a new stadium and they would talk. They did and that's how a new team was granted.
    The Astros also threatened to bolt Houston to Richmond VA if a new stadium wasn't built for them. Houston learned its lesson from the Oilers loss and immediately built it and now they have brought home a championship.
    I wish my Oilers were still in Houston the city dorked it! The Texans are NOT the Oilers and should and will never lay claim to there legacy.

      Al Pierce yes, the Texans have NO right to the Oilers legacy - and I don't believe they asked for it. It's all of these nostalgist that keep suggesting that.

    I don’t live in, nor am from Houston, but I did just spend a month in the city. I couldn’t help but notice Oiler hats on some people walking around, and it got me thinking; “If the Texans were to acquire the Oilers’ naming rights from the Titans, how would the city react?” I have a feeling it would be a mixed bag, but at the same time a welcomed return to an identity that some Houstonians appreciate. The Texans franchise having the ability to play as the Oilers would IMO upgrade themselves among Houstonians, but unfortunately I doubt it will happen. It would make sense though.

    • @Steve_Hunts96
      @Steve_Hunts96 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      How is that insulting? The area is a historic sports hub for the city of Houston, and the Astrodome being preserved by the city is actually very good on them because it keeps the legacy of the Oilers alive. Had they built NRG Stadium anywhere else, it’s likely that area would’ve been either completely abandoned, or the city would’ve had to of completely re-develop that area, removing the Oilers history with it.
      I recently visited the 2 stadiums while temporarily living in Houston, and I thought it was a very cool place, and I’m glad Houston has preserved the Astrodome and that area in general.

    The owner of the Titans, Adams-Strunk, has been utterly smug about not allowing Houston the Oiler name back. What I'm wondering is whether the "use it or lose it" legal precedent applies to sports franchise brands? The principal I have heard of is that a company must keep its use of a brand/name active if it wants to keep sole use of it. Does that not apply in federal American law? Tennessee stopped using the Oiler name 25 years ago, is this not long enough? It would be great if the Texans' lawyers could surreptiously research this question, and with good news, simply claim the name, uniform and colors on opening day of a season. The above witch with a B could shove her broomstick where the sun doesn't shine.

    As a Titans fan from day one I disagree COMPLETELY! The Oilers moved from TX to TN. The Texans were a team that appeared out of thin air. If anything they have more of a connection to the Dallas Texans. But since that team was so terrible it’s no wonder they don’t want to be affiliated with them! I bet if the Dallas Texans had been a successful franchise then Houston would be wanting to wear their throwback jerseys. Bud Adams moved the Oilers here because the fan base wasn’t what it used to be and they kept embarrassing themselves. When they came to TN and changed to the Titans, we were a strong team for a good while and then we fell in the same boat. Embarrassing. I don’t think either team should be allowed to wear oilers uniforms because neither team is the “Oilers” and Amy Adams said last week she will not allow it because she knows her father would have NEVER let Houston have the rights to the Oilers name. It’s not The Titans history and it’s not the Texans history. It’s a team that no longer exists. RIP Big Blue!

    Was too young to remember the Oilers, but that doesn't mean I can't respect and love their history. I collect Oiler jerseys, helmets, and other memorabilia. I'm a die hard Texans fan since day one and I've been telling people for years that Houston needs Oiler throwbacks and a special Ring of Honor for former Oiler players. Tennessee doesn't care for the Oilers and never have. Houston still loves and remembers the Oilers. When Bum Philips and Earl Campbell made their way out of the tunnel, during the Texans first two home playoff games, the crowd at NRG was electric. I wear an old Oilers hat everywhere I go and I always get compliments for it. I've heard stories from people who've had season tickets in the Astrodome, and stories from people who went to games in the early 60's. Even non-Houston fans would tell me how great of a player Moon was. And I always take the time to ask the question, "Should the Texans wear Oiler throwback jerseys?" And the answer has always been "Yes."

      Do to the Titans think they own the city’s name combined with the Oilers name.
      Also easy fix for the history stats
      The University’s whose players played for Houston back then could then remove the names from the Titans franchise specifically thus eliminating the history from the Titans and then give it to the city of Houston itself.
