That's John Howe who; besides Alan Lee; was considered to be one of the artists who Peter Jackson felt most closely portrayed the images of Middle Earth, that Peter wanted represented in his films.
The Silmarillion is my best Tolkien! you trully understand the Elves' community in the First Era and acknowledge the weight of being inmortal entails!!!
I just filmed a collection video for all of my Tolkien books that are in the same editions as your paperback 75th anniversary Hobbit and I said the same thing, that the only thing ugly about that one is the 'now a major motion picture" part. I just got the Children of Hurin in a pseudo matching edition that I love but if I end up loving the story enough, I need to get the US edition too because the downside to the one I just got is it does have gorgeous Alan Lee illustrations but none are full page, full color ones. I also really want to get illustrated editions of the Hobbit and LOTR. I agree with you about extended Hobbit, they are fantastic films! Excellent video 😃
Shane Rone Ted Nasmith is my favorite too because I think is depictions are the most accurate to the book, I like John Howe too but I think Ted Nasmith is a bit better
Have you heard of The Tolkien Professor podcast? Part of it are a bunch of episodes discussing the Silmarillion (which I really wish had existed when I was writing my term paper on it!).
U have lots more books to read if you care to. Try The Road to Middle-Earth/Shippey; Letters of JRR Tolkien; & the 12 Vol. of The History of Middle Earth (these are scholarly stuff). There's also the history of the Hobbit (more scholarly stuff). The tumblr HouseofHaleth.tumblr.com is largely on the Tolkien legendarium & can lead to other Tolkien tumblr sites if interested. Tolkien was a member of the Inklings literary group at Oxford U., & if u want to find out more about them & how they operated, try authors H. Carpenter & Diana Glyer.
I already watched about 10 videos for the same subject ( Tolkien collection). Why people I mean why u don't include beowluf. It was translated by Tolkien and edited by Christopher. I know it's really But come on I found it in Egypt and included it in my video about Tolkien collection why u can't find it On the other side I can't find most of history / shaping of Middle earth. So maybe it is a conspiracy So no one can get them all Kidding really enjoyed the video you got some good stuff on here really
Too bad it is only the prose translation and is missing the complete commentary and his unfinished verse translation. I would've preferred Michael Drout's edition to be published.
what a great collection! I only own a boxset that has The Hobbit + The Lord of the Rings trilogy in it and then a separate copy of The Silmarillion in an edition that matches my boxset. (though I have to admit, I had to put The Silmarillion down because I couldn't get through it. Will be giving it a secons chance though someday.) As far as the movies, I have The Lord of The Rings in extended editions. But have to confess to never having seen The Hobbit movies. Not sure if I ever will? idk, I prefer The Lord of the Rings book over The Hobbit. I really should give The Hobbit a re-read though.. because I feel like I will probably like it better knowing what to expect?

Alan Lee is my favorite too, but I must confess that the Rankin Bass art is a close second!
