They both produce informative, beautiful videos with excellent subject matter, on the important people and places concerning the First, Second, and Third Ages of Middle Earth. Yes, it seems there's much material in 'Artist & Illustrator' that is featured in the other two. My best guess would be, if you're going for either of the three books, go for 'Artist & Illustrator' as it provides a more generic overview of both LOTR and TH.

      Hey, so sorry for the horribly late reply. The hardback editions of HoME are great but not very convenient when trying to handle each massive volume to read. The paperback version are a much better way to go about tackling this. Other than that, they're a great collector's piece.

    Two questions, please:
    1) Are "The Unfinished Tales" (shown at 3:11) and "The Unfinished Tales of Numenor and Middle-Earth" (shown at 3:31) the same books in terms of contents? I understand that this may be only a subtitle added to the new issue of this book and it is thicker because of the added illustrations, but it would be great if you confirm on that part.
    2) "The Silmarillion" (shown at 3:05) - is this the second edition (that has introduction to both the first and the second edition, as well as the excerpt from a letter to Milton Waldman)?
    Thank you for the videos!

    Is your Harper Collins version of the Hobbit at time stamp 3:06 the 75th anniversary glued edition? I was thinking of getting this one to start my collection but am wondering if I should try and pay more for the sewn edition? Thoughts?

    • @brewingbooks
      @brewingbooks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To be honest, as long as you take care of the books, I don’t think it should make a massive difference. Granted, a sown book is much better than a glued binding, but if you think you’ll be using the book extensively, for reading and note-taking, then you might consider opting for the sown version. If, however, it’ll mostly be a collection piece, I see no wrong in acquiring one with glue binding.

      It depends what you would like to read about. Volumes 1-5 deal with the early history of The Silmarillion. Volumes 6-9 focus on The Lord of the Rings. Some elements about Númenor around found in Volume 9 too. Then volumes 10-11 focus once again on The Silmarillion - the material Tolkien worked on after the publication of LOTR. Volume 12 is a discussion on how the LOTR appendices were developed, and a few other writings.
