    • @onecuet
      @onecuet 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      yan ma Yes, insurance. We have tornadoes in Oklahoma, east coast has hurricanes, west coast is known for earthquakes, etc..., I'm pretty sure this is not covered under regular auto insurance. I don't see it qualifying under regular home owners ins. Maybe mobile home ins., even if it is covered under mobile home. Constantly traveling then under what state would one file for the insured policy? Would the ins. cover all the bus upgrades? Ins. rates vary depending upon your geological status. Surely this couple would insure the $30K+ bus investment. I would!

    I've built two conversions in my life time of 60 years and this episode is almost 5 years old now and this conversion is still by far one of if not the best conversion I've seen well done. You absolutely can see the vision and great care in details that went into this home something you could live in that wouldn't grow old as some converts don't consider in the build. I would hope that this husband and wife team would consider building bus conversions in the future they would do great at it. The video never grows old.

    • @Sweetbeariesart
      @Sweetbeariesart 7 ปีที่แล้ว +147

      I see benefits to kids growing up in smaller places. I live in a small apartment in a complex with other apartments that only range up to two bedrooms. This means most kids living here share bedrooms, and they actually go outside and play in the complex park for hours. I think the same would be true with a tiny house, it would encourage kids to get outside and explore more. If a family is living in a large house where everyone has their own rooms, then a lot of kids just end up playing on their computers and watching shows. People interact when there is a smaller shared space more as well. I think there are certain social skills and team building skills that a small space can teach a child that living in a large secluded environment will not provide. A lot of teens are in shock when they go to the dorms to college because they have never had to share space with others.

    • @Sweetbeariesart
      @Sweetbeariesart 7 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      Well in Southern California housing prices are sky high, so you are lucky your parents can afford for you to have your own bedrooms and be home schooled. Most kids do not have these advantages. I think it is probably better for siblings of different genders to have their own bedrooms, but sisters and brothers sharing a bedroom was very common up until recent times. If a family lives in a tiny house they all learn to share the common space. If gives you certain people management skills some do not who are lucky enough to always have their own room and space.

    • @Sweetbeariesart
      @Sweetbeariesart 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Okay, I get what you are saying. I reread your comment. I do not think kids of the same gender should share a bedroom, but I do not see the problem with brothers sharing a room with brothers, or a sister sharing the room with her sisters. I shared a room with my sisters growing up and that was just the way things were back then. We learned to get along and respect our own spaces. However, I went to school, so if you are home schooled sharing a room that might be stifling. Maybe your parents can enroll you in some private classes or lessons outside of the house so you can have some time away.

    • @Law19157
      @Law19157 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Of course, they built it themselves. Intentionally built mobile homes factor in the labor cost to build the product in the final sale price of the Vehicles so it cost more. Its always going to be cheaper if you do it yourself assuming you know what you are doing.

    Okay, this is DEFINITELY my favorite house. I wasn't too fond of bus conversions at first because all the one's I've seen kept the bus' shell intact, so it didn't really feel like a /home/ to me personally. This one does feel like a home, though, and being able to go from driving to getting a drink from the fridge without having to step outside is a plus for me!
    I'll definitely consider bus conversion when I take the plunge to tiny living.

    What an incredible job they did on this bus! So unique and so comfortable. I imagine one option they will have as the child grows older would be to let her have their bed and then Luke and Rachel can move to sleeping on the convertible couch. They could even swap that couch out for one that may be even more comfortable as a bed. If privacy becomes a concern they can install thin tracks on the ceiling that a curtain can be attached to pull around the bed at night. Once again... GREAT JOB LUKE and RACHEL! Raising the roof as you did was brilliant and makes all the difference. I'm sure you will inspire others to do the same. Have an adventure filled and safe summer traveling!

      I always had wanderlust because I grew up in one house basically. My husband's family moved him around constantly and he rarely spent one grade in the same town. We followed my wanderlust and our kids lived in many houses and we went from Midwest to Pacific Northwest. I think 'in the end' there is something you maybe gain by different experiences, but your children may not feel like they ever had a real home and real roots. I kind of wish we had stayed on the beautiful property we had originally and satisfied my wanderlust with vacations. I'm not sure we're without regrets for giving up everything to try out living close to the ocean. We've made full circle but our kids are stuck in other places. I think both of our sons feel a bit of loss because of that, but they both are beautiful in spirit and devoted to us and for that we can't help but be so grateful!

And later when hes speaking shes got bitch face staring at him seemingly waiting for him to say something. Shame because hes clearly amazingly talented.

    My son has eight children who are all home schooled. I am so glad they did. Everyone I know who had home schooled has the best children. I met a lady in a large sailboat one day when I worked on a river. She rowed over to the office to ask about grocery stores in the area. She said her husband and her traveled all over the world with their three children and home schooled them. They are now Dr's and one is a lawyer. Home schooled children learn easier, have higher IQ's and never have to deal with the public or private school bullies. I have seen that they are close knit families. Your home is awsome.keep it in the family. Your daughter may want to raise her family one day in it.

    A lot of people would say why not just get a motor-home? Well a few things comes to mind. One, to get a motor-home that even comes close to what this thing is would be $150-250 grand if not more. Second, when you buy a motor-home, you can't really make it your own and customize stuff. And lastly, there must be a greater satisfaction knowing how much work went into it and the appreciation value is priceless. What a great bus conversion this is! Great job guys!!!

    • @KeithsReviews

      Motorhomes, especially the older ones which can be had for 20 or 30k (as well as class B and C RVs) are poorly built. They are often made with crappy materials and have roof leaks. A school bus in it's stock structure form is as sealed and sturdy as an Airstream. That is the only thing I would be concerned about in modifiying it like they did here. You have to wonder how the roof and custom body panels will hold up in time. Where as there is no question whether or not the original bus form will pretty much last a lifetime.

    • @nopejoeandangie
      @nopejoeandangie 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KeithsReviews They lifted the roof and probably took out the ribs to insulate and put wood up in the roof so who knows. I don't know how this build will stand up to a constant rattle caused by driving hundreds or thousands of miles.Also when the engine goes this thing will be expensive to repair and I'm not sure where you will live during that time. Maybe a hotel while it's in the heavy truck shop? I know I saw a really nice motor home from a pair who drive around, their youtube name was something like Living Cheap, then they say in the comments their motor home cost $500,000 or so. jesus christ

      @@williss11 So...you've never traveled on the road before? Lol.
      Yeah, there's way more to it than Insta. Just saying. This is like staged. And Photoshop.
      The reality is 30k for MATERIALS. And that's gone now w inflation and interest rate increase. Plus, pooping in a very, VERY expensive bucket, basically.
      I'm sure you get mold in your water lines. A leak would be nasty. As these aren't accessible at all.
      Putting it somewhere it will fit and is safe. Not being legal to park in many places.
      Good luck finding insurance for something very modified. Or a moving house. If you're ever found out online, they can and will drop you.
      Driving itself, especially for long periods in a big vehicle or a bike is VERY tiring. By Day 3, I make stupid mistakes that might kill me, myself. You'll have muscles extremely sore for days.
      It's also not good for you to sit so much. Stop at any truck stop and look at the drivers. Often very heavy and unhealthy looking. Tho truck drivers are generally very decent people in general, as are bikers.
      But, it's way more work than they're letting on. Rent one for a few weeks. Wave bye-bye to a good...3k? At least. They only give you 1-200 miles included and limited generator use. If you rent say, a Suburban or van with a major co, you'll get miles free, but again, wave 2-2,500 bye-bye. They don't do RVs, either. Custom stuff isn't often rented that I've seen. And they'll ASK you if you're renting it out when you get insurance, too.
      Just saying. There's a LOT to it. Look up that old guy who was in...Nomadland. he does no drilling stuff. Also Eric Enjoys Earth, does small stuff without drilling holes.
      Just to get an idea an a feel for the reality. Then, you'll know what works for you and what you don't need. Plus, if you have something like that already (van, some minivan things), you can mod it for next to nothing. And just pull it out later.
