    This wonderful film was the first made with Keaton by MGM after they took over his own company, which had produced films such as 'The General'. They gave him his head: the result was so good that they used it for years to train comedy directors. But it was the last great film Keaton made. MGM completely took him over, refusing to listen to his ideas, and gave him scripts they thought were better. The result was terrible films such as 'Free and Easy' which is horrible to watch. Their behaviour destroyed Keaton and turned him into an aloholic.

      Yes. Before that, rich educated patrons would support artists by allowing them to express their art. They were replaced by rich industrials who would use artists as yes men to produce the films they thought would be good and the general public would also enjoy. Thus was born modern Hollywood.
