    Hey there guys! So in my original Squish to Condish video I left out the second STC that I do with my leave in in the interest of trying to make the video shorter (due to some comments I received that my videos were too long 😬). Live and learn! This video is in repsonce to all the questions I got about getting the sea weed clumps and when to apply products! So when you STC you know you have added enough conditioner and water when you get "sea weed" like hair. Anyway, I hope this video clears things up! Please let me know if you have anymore questions!

    My 13yr old daughter is transitioning into wavy her wavy hair and its been a learning curve for both of us. We have been watching your videos and they have been extremely helpful so thank you! This has been dubbed "swish to condish" in our house so that when she does it she remembers not to totally squeeze out all the water. Your mouthwash example was perfect and made us giggle! 😂

    I love your videos regardless of length. So informative. Could you maybe talk about the causes of and possible cures for wet frizz?! When I STC I almost always get wet frizz so I’ve stopped doing it! I’ve switched to upright, less wet styling without STC first bc I just can’t handle the wet frizz. I feel like maybe you can help.

      Same here but I find if just squeeze my hair in a downward motion. Starting at scalp and squeezing down small sections of hair, this doesn't ruff up the cuticle. In essence smoothing it down. If i do scrunch it's open palms .😊

The towels are so much easier, it's out of the way if I'm putting on makeup, and it's not too bulky if I decide to lay in bed and watch TV or take a nap after a shower

    • @etta5487
      @etta5487 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Same! The way my curls clump means that when I flip my head back upright, my hair is sticking up, or stuck to my scalp. I STC upside down, but then brush my hair again once i'm upright. I don't plop or style upside down anymore because it makes my waves clump in strange patterns that only look nice upside down.

    • @SwavyCurlyCourtney
      @SwavyCurlyCourtney  5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      So I show in this video what I do that has really helped me. I make sure to rake the hair off the back of my head when I apply leave in. Then i really turn my head from side to side (really shaking the hair off of the back of my head) when i apply my stylers. I make sure to have enough water in the back section of my hair as I do this because it dries out the fastest when i style upside down. I hope that makes sense! For the longest time I was nervous to break up the clumps and was too timid to really turn my head and shake the clumps off the back of my head. But one day I just went for it and it really really helped!

    Hi Courtney !! I don't have a squish to condish question, just wondering how you do in between wash days with tangles and keeping your hair so beautiful, alot of your wonderful subscribers have been so helpful and giving me tips but I'm struggling with not brushing or combing my hair in between washes. I feel like my hair is a rats nest and can't handle it and always end up combing it with a wide tooth comb. I know I'm not supposed to but don't know how to get through those days. I already see more definition and my hair curls slightly more each time. But the struggle is real 🤪 any help on how to get through from wash day to wash day tangle free would be so appreciated

    • @SwavyCurlyCourtney
      @SwavyCurlyCourtney  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jasmin Dawn I totally understand the struggle! I had to really work on myself to in brace the tangles a little bit. My hair doesn’t look terrible when it’s Tangly, but I can feel that it’s not tangle free and that’s irritating. You might check out the leave in that I talk about in my refresh video (alikay lemongrass leave in). It is really fantastic for smoothing over tangles on non wash days. So helpful!

      @sunflowerbaby1853 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Jasmine. I can't live w/ the tangles either. I gently comb my hair too w/ a wide tooth comb. Not brushing your hair is not an option for me. I end up w/ better looking hair when I do. Always do what works for you. There is no curl police who are going to knock on your door. ☺

    • @komis32015
      @komis32015 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It might be what the stylist is actually using to cut your hair. Like they might be using some type of razor or thinning shears on your ends. I could be wrong But next hair cut ask the stylist to not use anything like that and that you do not want to thin out the hair in any way.

    Great video, love the play by play! Especially regarding amounts, so thank you so much! I've got one tip for you and all the curly girls: watching your hair with your head down makes a lot of you wrinkle your forehead. Since I've been doing face yoga I now know that's how you create wrinkles for life. So my advice: learn how to look up without wrinkling your forehead and keep your face as healthy and beautiful as your hair 😊☺️🥰

    Your hair is almost exactly the same cut, length, color, everything. I must be not forming those curl clumps properly or I stop diffusing while it's still wet, because I'm aiming for curls like yours, which my hair is absolutely capable of, but it turns into a stringy mess. It's less of a mess, the more I practice and everytime I watch another video and learn as much as I can.. ive tried $150 in just mini sized products, which is like 9 different products, and my hair is very porous from bleaching, and is much wavier after having my son. . So how do I keep those curl clumps bigger and avoid them separating? I use the bowl method, applying the conditioner and curl definer and other products with the drippings from the water, but the moment I start microplopping, it all falls apart. I have used tee shirts, and a Deva curl microfiber towel and scrunch to my roots, but, if the curls start to separate should I just add more water? Is it possible I over conditioned? I am new at doing thos myself but a stylist gave me amazing ringlets. So I know it's possible. Sorry for the long question. Just tired of these stringy frizzy waves.

    • @SwavyCurlyCourtney

      @@mumijevi Haha totally understand. I explain this in the first squish to condish video. The point of squishing in the rinse out conditioner is not to encourage curls (not at the stage anyway). It is to really mix the water and conditioner in your hair. It kind of creates a swishing effect where the water carries the conditioner to every single strand of your hair. Like swishing mouthwash around in your mouth! LOL that how i think of it anyway. And having enough of both water and conditioner in your hair will ensure really good hydration. Hope that makes since!

Do you have any tips for girls starting out with pretty damaged hair? It is a nightmare to rake products through my hair or STC and I find that by doing so, I've flattened out the clumps that were starting. I definitely feel like the quality of your hair makes a huge difference in the intensity of curls you get. Am I not using enough products if they are not detangling easily? I'm afraid to overuse leave in or creams because of weight. I've definitely attained more curl than ever before but its either frizzy from over styling or limp from letting it air dry with minimal styling. Ugh. 🤷🏼

      kajun Curtis This is a very tricky question to answer, everyone hair is so different. I find that using a wet for us to distribute the leave in and conditioner in my hair helps minimize the fall out during squish to condish. If you hair is excessively tangly then I would add more water, then conditioner, then water. Keep adding more and more water/conditioner/water to you hair until the tangles just fall right out.

Curious about your thoughts on whether I could use a Denman brush (which I already have) in place of the wet brush you use here, or should I just grab one?

    • @SwavyCurlyCourtney
      @SwavyCurlyCourtney  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe? I actually have both the denman and a wet brush. The wet brush is more gentle i think for detangling. You could use the denman if you are more careful than I am! LOL I tend to get and a rush and rip through my hair if I'm not careful!

    Thanks for this great video! I noticed recently that if I use products with protein, my hair doesn’t clump - like my curls are super skinny and I don’t like it! Is this a thing?

    • @karissathatcher9206
      @karissathatcher9206 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't know whether or not protein has anything to do with it, but I watched a video where Lorraine Massey said fine has will do that if you try to style on soaking wet hair. My hair is pretty fine and low density, so I have to make sure I squeeze enough water out. Otherwise the gel tends to coat every. single. strand. And then dry that way so my curls look stringy. :/

  • @octo448
    @octo448 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    One warning on the microfiber towels- if you have dry hair, they can be too drying to plop with. Even before starting the CGM I had to stop using them because they sucked all the mousiture out of my hair so quickly. I did find one later that was marketed as being made with bamboo that was much better though, so it might be a quality question?

    • @SwavyCurlyCourtney
      @SwavyCurlyCourtney  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kylie Perry I think you hit the nail on the head with the quality issue. I have used several different microfiber towels in the past and have experienced the same thing you’d have, with the towel being too drying. There is something very special about this particular towel, it doesn’t pull too much water out of my hair. It also creates much less frizz than regular microfiber towels for me. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤗

    • @irairod5160
      @irairod5160 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SwavyCurlyCourtney Besides the difference in quality issue, keep in mind that using laundry softener (liquid or sheets) will eventually ruin any microfiber item you have. Softener is designed to plump and coat fibers, so with continued use, your towels will stop absorbing the moisture they once did. Once this has happened, the fibers will have a tendency to grab and hook onto your hair and create static, frizz, and tangles.

    • @SwavyCurlyCourtney
      @SwavyCurlyCourtney  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@irairod5160 you are correct. That is on the wash instructions I think. So I have never used fabric softener or dryer sheet when I wash my microfiber towels.

    • @irairod5160
      @irairod5160 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SwavyCurlyCourtney Agreed, it's usually on the instructions...yet many people (including me) sometimes forget and add the softener to any load that includes towels...and then wonder why they're not as absorbent anymore!

    What's the point of squishing the shampoo out, when you brush your hair straight right after?

    • @SwavyCurlyCourtney
      @SwavyCurlyCourtney  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ummm...my hair is rinsed straight when I rinse out the shampoo. I am not seeing where the shampoo is squished in. I'm so sorry I'm no understanding your question. Now if you are asking why I squish in the rinse out conditioner, I answered that question in my original STC video. When you take a couple of min to squish in the conditioner, you are really allowing your hair time to absorb the conditioner while also emulsifying it with the water in you hair. The squishing kind of swishes the water/conditioner around in your hair and insures that every hair strand is getting properly hydrated. Hope this makes sense!

    • @ooppii1
      @ooppii1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah sorry yes. I see now I was talking about the conditioner. Okay, that makes sense. I just saw you using the brush after you squished it in, and was like: "why are you ruining your own work". But it makes much more sense now, thanks 😄

    Courtney I love watching your videos because you have such a fun personality and honestly you have the shiniest hair I’ve ever seen and I love it. I’ve seen you wearing T-shirts with faith based messages on them, I’ve noticed you never curse or use God’s name in vain. So I’m assuming you are a Christian. TH-cam desperately needs more Christian women using this platform to share the gospel and I’d love to hear about your faith. You have some of the best CGM videos on TH-cam and I’m not saying to do something different! I’m just suggesting that seeing a video of your testimony, or even mentioning your faith more in your curly hair videos would be amazing and inspiring for other women!

      I would think if there is no squishy sound then I would think you would need to add more water, then conditioner, then water to your hair. Keep doing this over and over and over until you have good squishy sounds. It’s the combo of water+conditioner that gives me good squelchy sounds.
