    Wow! I was told before to grab big breaths of air while I was singing. I didn't know that I could take small or even mini breaths and that can be enough. Now I can breath while singing so much better. This is the first big improvement that I have picked up since I signed up for these lessons. Thank you Victoria!

    I used to sing alto but my teacher changed me to soprano and I've been feeling a lot of tension in my core. My teacher said it might be my exhalation and he was totally right! I hadn't realized how much air I was unnecessarily holding and taking in. Thank you so much for this video, it's helped with tension and to adapt to soprano singing!

    Dear Victoria, I feel like I have no words good enough to express my gratitude. I've been searching for answers in all the wrong places and I quitted singing many years ago but now I actually want to give it a try again and get hired in the choir where I always wanted to be. Music definitely always made me happy, no matter how upset I ever was. THANK YOU for actually helping me understand the things I struggled to understand for such a long time. You are far away from me and do all this for me while no other professor that was in front of me ever did. Thank you, I will continue to exercise everything you teach us and I will eventually get to sing where I want to. I have to. Wish you all the best! Thank you again!

    Victoria, your mention of the catch breath takes me back to when I went to learn to sing the song "Urgent" by Foreigner. There are so many catch breaths in that song it took me quite a while to get them all placed and timed right. There's a staccato punchiness to that song that made it quite challenging. Lou Gramm is a huge vocal influence.

    Victoria, you are a great teacher, who relays the mechanics of singing in a very understandable fashion. As a trumpet player, I'm able to hold notes for quite a while. However, singing is harder, as the column of air seems to be escaping me quite quickly by comparison. The resistance I find in the mouthpiece and tubing I seem not to be able to find in myself. No magic pill I guess, but practice, practice, practice?...

    Can I present an analogy and see if it fits?
    A bagpipe player fills the bag with air and then squeezes it with his/her arm, creating pressure (support?) that keeps air flowing though the reed and creating a noise.
    Can a singer’s ‘support’ be looked upon as being similar to the piper’s arm squeezing on the bag?
    For a singer, do the abdominal muscles do the same thing - squeezing the abdominal ‘bag’ to aid the diaphragm in delivering air?
    And as a result, they have a tension - a squeezing action - to them, whereas the larynx, neck, jaw should be tension free?

    Hi Victoria, ever since I found your videos, I can't stop watching them, one by one, OMG, they're the best tutorial videos for vocal training. For breathing, I have one more question - I'm like one of the ballet dancer you mentioned, have a habit of sucking in my belly. I realized it's a bad habit for singning, lots of times I can't be relaxed for inhalation. Would you suggest I change the habit of sucking in belly in order to do better breathing in singning, or do you think it's possible to breathe well during singing but still keep the habit of sucking in belly?

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Shirley! No, I recommend that you keep the sucking in to your ballet and allow the abs to open and release for inhalation when singing. Watch my videos to learn how much air you need. Many singers overdo it (tank up) and get tight.

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, but that is a term that I rarely use, especially not in a video because it is often misunderstood and can lead to holding and stopping the breath if taken too far.

    Also can you tell a song where the use of breath support is like absolutely needed! Like without applying support, one can't even sing that song properly! That would really help me to know whether i am applying properly support in songs or not bcz in easy songs a lot of support is not required and thats why even without it we can sing it without straining the vocal chords

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Certainly if you have a song that has long vocal lines, big jumps (large intervals), dramatic songs, belted songs, sustained high notes, long & held notes - these all require good breath support to be sung well. I recommend reviewing my video on that topic: Supporting the Voice (Breath Support) - WHY, WHEN, HOW MUCH? th-cam.com/video/b27MFq1f0VM/w-d-xo.html

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you get lightheaded, you might be over-breathing. Breath support for high notes is no different than breath support throughout your range - it depends on what you are singing and the sound you want. High notes take less air, not more air.
