A vinyl fence should ideally contain between 10 and 12 parts per 100 of titanium dioxide to effectively prevent UV rays from degrading the material, with most quality fences aiming for around 10 parts per 100 as a minimum standard; this acts as a UV inhibitor, preventing discoloration and weakening from sunlight exposure.
I put 2-3/8 galvanized post with donut support inside every 5x5 vinyl post to support not to bend when high wind. Plus I put 2x4 inside vinyl rail top and bottom
I still have a homemade prefab concrete fence from 1959. Other than a few rusted rebar posts it is still standing in good shape. Huricane Andrew dropped a tree on it, but since cement, sand and rock are easy to get we repaired it for minimal cost.
I have a vinyl fence installed by my previous home owners. Ours is a walk out basement, which means the backyard slopes away from the home hence when it rains the backyard remains soggy wet for a long time . And there is no air circulation through the fence which makes things worse. Any ideas to work around this issue by increasing air circulation in my backyard?
I have been looking high and low for an answer to this but cannot find anybody who talks about this particular situation I am about to run into. So I'm about to install a vinyl fence along the back property line and to our left and to our right our neighbors property line is divided by block walls that run from the front to the back of the property line on both ends now if I'm going to install a vinyl fence between those two block walls do I need to tie in or secure or attach or anchor or whatever the vinyl fence and post into those block walls because my thinking is going from okay get some pressure treated 2 by 4 anchor that to the block and then tie in the vinyl post to the wood or maybe I just get a bracket attach that to the block and then attach that to the post..... Any ideas or suggestions 'cause every time I try to look at those keywords it pops up with endless amounts of videos of people building a vinyl fence on top of a block wall whereas one third of the wall is now blocked and the other 2 thirds is vinyl or any other combination but I don't care about that 'cause I'm having my fence vinyl top bottom...but the two end post...do i just lay those snug or id prefer to secure them some how..
I mean personally, I wouldn't. I'd just set it good and solid right next to it. It's a similar concept as setting next to a house. th-cam.com/video/3VbqSxAT8Ho/w-d-xo.html
Note how calm the weather is when Mark isn't around. Very helpful video but ... my main fear still resides in vinyl cracking and chipping after it endures a few hard winters and/or that it is much more brittle and therefore delicate when it's very cold outside. Are these founded concerns with good vinyl fencing?
where i live it is HEAT. i live in the foot hills of the sierra mt chain. east of stockton ca. it gets hot here. not quit as hot as say phoenix, or las wages, or heaven forbid death valley. will the plastic melt? soften up? but 115 is normal for up to a month or so in the summer. can get snow, but this place is below the "snow line". 1 or 2 inches for a full season, mostly melts away in a day. but weeks worth of below zero F in the cold of winter. (had to unfreeze some pad locks this past winter). your east coast so should handle the cold here. not sure about a "plastic" fence, seen some around and they look like crap within a year. (unknown source).
@@larryjanson4011 That is very helpful information, Larry. Thank you. We get extremes here. The coldest and hottest day of the year could be as much as about 140 degrees F apart. It takes its toll on every kind of material, even stone and steel, so the question is not what will be unaffected but what will stand up to the effects the longest. Many thanks!

@@SWiFence We are trying to install a 6’ semi privacy fence onto a composite deck. And I’m having a hard time with manufacturers, wanting to sell me their products because it supposed to go in the ground.
It's no wonder Mark doesn't let you produce the video's. I never realized the importance of titanium dioxide in the vinyl fence material. Do his sub's now get questioned about the percentage of titanium dioxide?* I think that there must be some posts made with a recycled core that are made to a higher quality standard. Same warranty as the company I'd subbed from. *We had at least two subs that could barely read or write.
Pretty much the biggest issue with vinyl fences is that they absolutely ALL suck for keeping them looking good...and when you install one, you are damning your neighbor with a fence that THEY will need to clean and maintain!
So yes the khaki post you showed has recycled material in it. The cost to make your 0.150 thickness with virgin material would cost a fortune on top of the cost of your product nobody would be able to afford. Educate people on the whole process that goes into extruding your material. Using recycled material and testing it before extruding it guarantees proper melting and bonding creating a good product that also keeps your recycled scrap from going into a land fill. Educate don’t discriminate.
How much titanium dioxide SHOULD a fence have?

Does the recommended .15 post wall thickness apply to semi-private vinyl fencing as well? A contractor told me .135 is the industry standard.
I'm sure he did. But there's a reason vinyl has a bad name. There's a lot of cruddy vinyl that gets installed.

do you sell anything to prevent the pvc gate doors from slamming because of the wind?
Hmmm, no, not really.
Can I do step side style with vinyl fencing? I live on a sloped area and currently have an old wooden fence step side style going downward
So what was the width of the professional grade big box store?
All of the box store posts were the same--it was just the panels that were different. So any box store posts we skipped would've measured the same.

@SWiFence yep I'm probably stressing more than I need to about something that isn't gonna matter as much as I'm worrying about it lol
Can you install a vinyl fence in front of a chain linked?
Sure. We build fences next to other fences all the time.
Quick question about frost lines. Some areas of the country have frost lines that are 8 feet deep. What do you do in that situation?
That's outside of my knowledge zone. We don't really have that here, except, I suppose, in Alaska.

Vinyl fences have some advantages, but overall they just look institutional and cheap compared to a nice wood fence.
Preferences really vary regionally. Some parts of the country vinyl is what everybody wants.
Until you can't get anyone to replace your weekend fence thanks to covid in 2020.
Vinyl fencing is like legos. Is what it is no explanation needed. A five year old could figure it out.
