    Installed this exact fence in my yard. Freedom fence brand purchased at LOWES for $113 per section. The gate kit costs $119 plus panel kit ($87). An aluminum H post is required for hinge post to support gate. Each section is $113 plus concrete. Aluminum H piece is $41. Panels are 6 x 8 ft. Installation is easy for one person installing 4-6 panels per day. Fence looks identical to the one shown. I am 74 year old male and installed it all myself. I installed solar powered night lights that cost $12 each on E-Bay, and do not require battery replacement. Purchased 6 originally and have been very impressed with them and been using them for about a year from first purchase. Lights are 48 LED panels and I use them on garage doors, house entrances, front fence panels and around yard. They come on at night, dimly and when you get within 12 feet, they get bright automatically and highlight an area about 200 square feet for up to two minutes after you leave. Installed 13 panels plus one 8 ft wide gate past week, April 2020, and it is great looking. Cost $1,600 plus concrete and a couple days of my time.

      @@davidjacobs8558 I plan on running low voltage power through the panels. The top beam portion is hollow allowing you to run wire through it, just run 24 volt through it and have a new line every 4-5 panels. Way better than solar as you can turn them on or have them set to motion. Hear something rumbling i flick them on entire backyard lights up like a Xmas tree, had on my old fence and plan to install on new, my old backyard was about the size of this guys, and cost was about 300, 170 of that in wire and connectors.... each dimmable cap was 5 bucks on ebay at the time, if i remember it was like 6 bucks for a 2 pack for nondimmers. Also what's nice is i can hook my Xmas LED prehung pvc pipes right in the runs of the 24 volt with simple connectors. No need to run more wire.

    Your presentation is outstanding. I just had Lowe's install a vinyl fence all around my back yard. I live in NC and the fencing came from Hudson Fencing which is in SC. The fencing material from Hudson is of higher quality than what you buy right out of Lowe's it self. I found that out after I ordered it. The only problem I have is, I'm on a corner lot and that fence (with the double gate in the middle) runs 170 feet and the ground slops very gradually with one end about 5" and eventually the other end almost meet the ground. But as you look at the fence it's straight as an arrow on the top and bottom. I think I can live with it. We don't have pets to worry about and I'm thinking about running bushes in front.

    • @MillennialLiving
      @MillennialLiving  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for sharing that! It's great information to know for anybody that might come through here from your region. It sounds like it's a good fence overall too. Especially with no pets a 5" gap isn't too bad. We've seen some in our area that have massive gaps of probably a foot or so. Not sure how they managed that 😅 the bushes will add a nice touch and solve the issue in one go.

    • @lahawk2931
      @lahawk2931 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MillennialLiving Very informative. For folks that may have a gap there are several companies that make a metal panel that simply pushes down into the ground at the base of the fence to prevent a dog from digging under the fence. It can be used with or without a gap if you have a digger. Check out Petco for Dig Defence. We are looking into a fence to keep the neighbors dogs from pooping in our yard. Currently we don't have a dog, but inconsiderate neighbors will be forcing us to spend the money on a fence. We are unable to put a full on privacy panel as the code requires 50% visibility, and height restrictions.

    Thanks, very informative. We are getting our first quote next Wednesday. This helps me ask all the right questions. My husband and I are in Southern California, Corona. It gets really hot and really windy behind my home. The land is also hilly. I was worried about the fence warping. Thanks for explain everything about installation and also the different looks. I was wondering about the thicker rails some have on their fences. I have neighbors vinyl fences that really look bad. They seem to be warped, scratched and faded. I am assuming they didn’t stabilize it with the inserts and used chemicals when cleaning. For someone who knew nothing this has really helped me a lot.

    If there are any...any gabs under the vinyl fences and you have dogs that like to dig. The dogs will dig and if you have a big german shepard full grown. He will knock the gate open by pushing or leaning on the gate door until the posts bend open. And at other posts if there is any type of gap between the panels. That same heavy dog will gar loose the post until a panel comes loose and then pushes out. Wood fences did not have most of the issues because of the strength of the posts.

      @@MillennialLiving Question: Did you consider the shorter length fence sections (6') for less flexing vs the 8' ones?
      I'm removing a wood fence with 8' sections, and since I'll be trashing the wooden 4x4 posts I thought it might be a more rigid fence with the shorter panels.
      Thanks again!

    • @MillennialLiving
      @MillennialLiving  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Our sales rep told us that because of the slope of our lawn the longer panels would give us more ability to follow the slope to get as close to the ground as possible. With a windier area the increased flex can help with allowing the fence to flex with the wind. If it's vinyl and too rigid there's a greater possibility of the panels cracking if a strong storm comes through. If you're not having to deal with much wind then I would say it really just is all up to the aesthetic that you want. I personally like the look of the longer panels also because the shorter seem to have a more choppy look to them.

    • @ThePetlowany
      @ThePetlowany 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MillennialLiving Thanks for that. The winds from Hurricane Irma blew through here at about 85 mph, and I was curious about that longer panel consideration.

    Great video - thank you for all of the details! My 13 year old wooden fence blew over today, and with 2 dogs, that is a big problem. I have been trying to decide between wood and vinyl, and your video totally helped! My only concern I had,,, does it get dirty easily? IE, my vinyl railings on my porch get very dirty and I need to power wash them a few times a year. The vinyl fence will be under huge pine trees, so I don't know if the sap will cause a problem... If possible, can you send some close up pictures or video of the section by the side gate that comes in contact with the garage, I think? There's a post about 12 inches from the garage. Wonder how they finished it there.

    Thank you so much for this video. We have a very active 40 pound dog (not the one in the profile pic) who has done serious damage to our 6' wooden privacy fence. She and the neighbor dogs lunge at the fence and have knocked out or broken several wooden planks. How do you think the vinyl would stand up to active dogs and possible barrier aggression between neighboring dogs? Thanks!

    Thanks for the video. Trying to decide between Lowes and Home depot.. What was the main deciding factor for you.. I know you mentioned that Lowes has a better fence quality. Lowes asked us to get rid of a lot of our trees and bushes.. Home Depot was willing to install without us remove them.. I was leaning towards Home Depot, after watching your video im still on the Fence.. ;)

    • @MillennialLiving
      @MillennialLiving  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Our main deciding factor was the level of confidence in getting everything done right that Lowe's gave us. I'm not sure if it's the same everywhere but in our region HD basically just sells you the fence and install but passes you along to a contractor they work with to handle scheduling and any other issues. The contractor they sent was not very professional and was actually the same company we had scheduled another bid with for a different brand of fence. In that interaction they had no idea what was going on, scheduled us, forgot our appt, showed up without notice after we tried to cancel the appt they had no record of... it was a mess. When they showed up as the HD representative it didn't give us confidence that they'd do a good job. Lowe's acted as the point of contact for us with our contractor through them and told us if anything wasn't done correctly or any issues they would handle getting a team back out to rectify any issues. Overall both Lowe's and our contractor were professional and communicative.
      We also had to have some fence line cleared of branches and such. We had to do it because we wanted to go all the way up to the property line and there were some bushes right on the border and a few low hanging branches. Our rep did tell us though that there were some spots we could leave if we wanted to but that if there are strong winds or storms and the branches rub or hang onto the fence it could cause damage. So imo if you're spending a lot of the fence I'd rather spend a little bit more money (or effort if diy) to remove the branches in order to not have issues down the line. I hope this helps!

    I went through Lowe's and the guy that came and did the estimate for me would not give me the estimate to buy the materials to DIY it. So I asked him to give the employee at the pro desk the estimate so the employee can figure on how much fencing I need. He refused to do that. Lowes is a real headache don't know if this is a practice they do in their whole company or if it's just the store. Can you tell me how to figure out how much fencing I need since they don't want to help me.

    • @MillennialLiving
      @MillennialLiving  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The first thing you need to do is find out how many feet of fence you need to cover. Go find your homes plat to determine that. It will have a diagram in feet of your land. Then once you have the number of feet then you can DuckDuckGo for websites that will calculate how much of fencing you'll need for your home.
      Otherwise, what I'd recommend is call up a few fence places and have them come out and give you a few quotes. They'll give you a free quote with a breakdown of everything.

The guy we ended up with seemed to know what he was doing but we are missing some parts and I have a question about the corner post. I understand the end posts get the stiffener but so far I haven't seen anything to add strength to corner post. Also, some people say put the concrete in first, others say add it later.
    I have two questions:
    1. What do I do to stiffen the corner post?
    2. Concrete first or concrete after installing the post?

      Hi Peter, unfortunately we don't know the answer. We had Lowe's install it for us and we were out of town so I didn't get to see how they did it. I recommend you calling up a fence company and asking them. If you're missing any parts then get with Lowe's. They delivered the wrong product to us and they immediately sent over two people to go over every part they delivered and when they figured it out, the correct order was brought the next day.

      Miami Dade wind rating is the the strongest a vinyl fence can get. Miami Dade rating is sustained winds of 75 mph and gusts of 115 mph. If you live in that area then that's what their fence code requires. The rest of the country doesn't require that but if you pay extra then you can make it as strong as the Miami Dade area. Thank you! We didn't have any existing fence but from my understanding they would roll that cost to remove it into your bid. I'm not sure how much it would be though since it would probably depend on how much fencing there is to remove and what type it is. That would be something I'd get a few bids for as you might be able to save some money by paying a different contractor just to remove the old fence vs having it all done at once by the fence installer depending.

    Hows that fence holding up?
    Im considering doing a vinyl fence from lowes but its the freedom 6' vinyl privacy fence. I have 300 linear feet with and that includes two walk through gates (like yours) and one double wide. I was going to install this fence myself using some concrete. What do you think my privacy fence would cost if I had it delivered from online retailer other than a big box store.
    What online source would you recommend I order it from?

    • @MillennialLiving
      @MillennialLiving  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Our fence is holding up really well. Haven't had any issues with it.
      You will save money by ordering it online and doing it yourself but there's more headaches with it and a lot more work. When it's delivered you'll be responsible for unloading the pallets off the truck too if you go that route. If you did go with Lowes and have them install it during a time when you save 10% you'd end up paying practically what you would to diy but have the peace of mind of professional installation and guarantee. www.vinylfence.com is a good option if you're still wanting to diy. They have the equivalent of the freedom 6' fence.

    I putting this fence around my backyard which includes my 15' wide driveway, do you think i can put two panels as gate door? Would this be a problem?

    • @MillennialLiving
      @MillennialLiving  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think it would work since the panels would really need to have reinforced support on either side of the driveway (which you could do) but also in the center to prevent sagging. That would be where the issue would come in since you wouldn't want to put a post in the center of your driveway. They do sell oversized gates specifically for things like that. You may have to purchase that part special from the manufacturer and it will be pricey as gates tend to cost more than a panel in general. But I would say it's worth it to have it done right and not encounter issues upon installation.

    I can not wait, im having a privacy fence installed in a few weeks! I love the way you can lock that gate. Did they install that gate lock for you or did you have to install it yourself? Thanks, that was very helpful information.

      The lock was installed by Loews. Not expensive at all and it's nice to have the option to lock it if we need to. Mary, appreciate you watching and don't forget to give us a like and a subscribe! 🤣♥️🇺🇸

    That gate has a pretty wide 1-2" crack on both sides... is there a way to make it completely no see thru cracks? thanks. about the lowes fencing, "chesterfield" seems like u are saying is best for wind and following down a slope (our other fence had to stair step down a slight grade), is that accurate? thanks.

      @MillennialLiving  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think you could eliminate the gaps completely on the sides of the gate because it has to have room to swing and for the latch/ hardware to be affixed. It's possible that you could perhaps attach a piece of flexible vinyl on either side to cover the gap but I'm assuming that would have to be a diy addition. As for the fencing the Chesterfield is the best when it comes to wind rating and slope but that's a bufftech fence. Lowes doesn't carry them, at least in our area. That one has to be purchased from an independent dealer. The Lowe's fence we have though is the Emblem from Freedom fencing, it's not technically Miami-Dade wind rated but we live in Chicagoland and have had several high wind storms come through and haven't had any issues. For an additional cost you could add post stiffeners to the Lowe's fence that would bring it up to a higher wind rating. That one also followed our slope really well. As long as you either have it installed or don't buy the premade panels they can be put together to more closely follow the slope. Ready made panels though would have to be stair stepped. Hope this helps!

      @@MillennialLivingPerhaps flat "trim" boards on appropriate opposite sides to block the view ie 1/4" x 2" x 6 ft (cut to fit) on backside of gate that is closing say its the right side, then also on the other side of gate but on the left side same trim "view" blocking flat board? by taking about 1/2" from edge on trim boards to gate it stick out about 1 1/2" to cover the crack or some such (might need 3"wide flat trim pieces.
      2. ANOTHER way might be to simiply put in filler boards in the cracks of appropriate thickness that also wouldn't impede the closing of the gate but "would" block the view? ie maybe 2" x2" x 6ft boards painted white might be perfect fit of trim off to fit. .

      Bufftech has one inch by one inch by 6 feet long pieces that you put on the post, so that the gap, isn't as noticable

    Hello, do your dogs jump on the fence? Have they scratched it? We're trying to decide whether to go with vinyl or wood, and trying to come at the issue from every angle lol! Thank you!! Great video!!

      Our dogs don't jump on it because we have two small dogs. We've had ours for several years now and it's going strong. Makes the house pop in our neighborhood. Devin, come check out our main channel 5 Minute Eats - th-cam.com/users/5MinuteEats 🤣♥️🇺🇲

    ML, I ‘m trying to find out if their is a difference by companies in the thickness or gauge of vinyl. Would you happen to know or can you direct me to someone that might. Thanks, video was very informative.

      I don't know the answer to this question. Give a call to a fence company and see what they say. There might be a slight difference with each vinyl fence. J Doza, appreciate you watching and don't forget to give us a like and a subscribe! 🤣❤️🇺🇸

    Pretty cool. I wish they had 8 to 10 foot privacy fences. 😎

      You're in luck, they do make some fences in 8ft high sizes but they're pretty pricey. I wouldn't mind having an alligator filled moat for added privacy 😄

    Are this post sets in concrete or are this like used with anchor kits ? I am looking to install wambam fence but not sure if i will be able to install that myself. please help me with this if you can

    • @MillennialLiving
      @MillennialLiving  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The posts on our fence are set in concrete. But we did briefly look into wambam fence and I think that they are made specifically so that they can be installed diy. Wambam is a mom and pop company. I think if you call them they can walk you through everything. They were very helpful when we had questions.

      Definitely. We're waiting on the weather to get a little warmer to give an update. We should have it live by late April/Early May. We've had it for almost 3 years and no regrets. Very pleased with it.

    i too live in miami and found all this helpful. however when i try to order the Emblem fence from the Lowe's website i can only order 4 panels for truck delivery with no store pickup option (no stores in miami have it) and i need around 251 LF which is around 31 panels. would i have better luck placing an order at a Lowe's store?

    • @MillennialLiving
      @MillennialLiving  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would. Call and make an appointment for the sales rep to visit your place. They'll go over everything with you and then have the truck deliver it.

      @@MillennialLiving the lowe's guy came over yesterday. first thing i asked him was the emblem fence he said he doesn't use that so they wanted me to go with something more expensive. half way through the visit he wanted to break concrete and not even refill it so i told him to forget everything and he left pissed AF. then i spent the entire day today visiting different Lowe's and i was only able to find 2 emblem panels and was told that the Distribution Center in another state had 0 so i couldn't even place an order and wait months for it. i think i'm just gonna go with the Freedom Brighton or ActiveYards Dogwood and DIY since Home Depot quoted me at $21k for the entire project (with Aluminum in the front).

    Is it less expensive to have gaps between the pickets? And does that make it more or less wind resistant?

    • @MillennialLiving
      @MillennialLiving  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I've seen they're generally both in the same price range. With the gaps in the pickets you'd have less wind resistance since there's not just a wall of vinyl the wind is blowing against, it could flow through the panels.
