Does your p99 have the molding marks that look like cracks on the front of the dust cover and on the left side I just bought a 1998 interarms gen 1 that has these marks I’ve seen a few other p99s that have the same exact marks as mine I’m trying to figure out if they are really cracks or if they are imperfections in the polymer any info would be greatly appreciated
The P99 is a masterpiece. A da/sa striker fired with decocker. An anti stress mode that's kind of LEM ish. Massive mag release paddles. Nice recoil impulse. Great trigger. The only 2 things i didn't care for about it was after i got into red dots, that was pretty much out of the question. And the cost of magazines. At the time, they were scarce online, and local shops were asking non vital organ prices. Still, i miss mine. But not enough to go and grab the final edition and either shoot the snot out of it, or leave it unfired in the interest of collectability even though it's probably not that rare. Great video man. I agree... as much as I love the P99, I wasn't compelled to go buy a Final Edition one. Yet :) And yes--red dots are kind of a no go. And, honestly, maybe that's why they haven't offered the decococker system on newer models. The P99 is an iconic gun for me, specifically because it was the gun of my first bond movie and as a kid growing up in the early 2000s surrounded by airsoft guns, there were so many p99s out there. I really wish that Walther would incorporate some of the features of the P99 into their modern guns, even if they want it to just still give us the anti-stress option versus only making polymer striker guns that are basically the same as everybody else's
Man, you are preaching to the choir-my choir, anyway. I’d love to see the P99 / AS system pulled forward to the PDP platform, etc. Or better yet… the Q4SF. Steel frame with DA/SA… yes, please. Awesome review! I'm a huge fan of Walther firearms. The P99 is one of the best polymer pistol we seen. Many innovative features. I have two from 1998. One has over 14k rounds through it and the other is an unfired one for collection. Definitely enjoy shooting the P99. Ashame that Walther discontinued it.
Thank you, my friend! Wow... 14k! That is quite an endorsement. I love my P99. In fact... the sear assembly actually broke on mine. And Walther/Umarex has sent the wrong part, twice. I need to get the thing up and running again. Thanks!
The AS da/sa system is the striker-fired version of HK’s LEM hammer-fired system. Both require the would-be purchaser to be intelligent enough to understand the advantage.
Well, the I'd say the LEM system a little different--the action is cocked, but the trigger shoe doesn't snick back to SA position on the LEM... whereas it does on the AS system. Also, of course, you can decock the AS, whereas you can't on the LEM. I had a P2000SK in LEM. Meh. Much prefer the AS DA/SA system. Thanks!
Oh cool! I'm kinda jealous... I kinda want one. But it's not like it'll do anything mine won't? Plus, mine already has the OD green frame. So.... I figure I'm good in the P99 department for the moment :) Thanks for the comment!
@@HipsterTactical After watching this video I kind of want to some day pick up one of the P88's in mint condition if possible but that'll take deep wallet full I suppose !!!
Had a PPQ for awhile, put about 5-6k rounds through it. It was the best shooting SFA pistol on the market IMO, but for a carry gun the trigger has potential issues that the P99 does not when carried decocked. Besides the traditional pro-DA/SA arguments, the PPQ (and cocked P99) have sears that can move independent of the trigger being pulled and can release the striker if dropped or jostled hard enough. The FPB in the slide prevents the gun from firing, but in the Q results in carrying a decocked SAO. Sounds like a nitpicky complaint but it did result in me unknowingly carrying a basically unloaded gun for God knows how long. RIP P99, the gun we needed but didn't deserve
I couldn’t agree more on every point. I wasn’t aware that the sear could release upon impact. Interesting… and a worthwhile feature. I did know you could essentially decock a PPQ by nudging the slide back and easing down the trigger… but, as you said, you’re left with a gun that can’t fire in that state. The 99 is a hell of a gun-and I tend to agree that it was, and always shall be, the most complete, most effective iteration of the modern Walther SFA platform. I also have a video on the PPQ .45… which I owned briefly and sold for similar reasons. Trigger was out of this world, though. Thanks for chiming in and take care!
The lack of a hammer on these to know what state it was in always kind of bothered me. Then when I realized that the trigger could be forward, with the gun still in "sort of single action" mode, I couldn't get over it. That said it has the looks and a lot of features that are so classic for the time when I first started getting interested in guns, and I definitely see the collector appeal.
Yeah, I don’t really care for the AS mode, per se (the cocked and trigger forward mode). But I find the striker indicator to be a good substitute for the hammer. Plus… that push-button decocker is just great. Thanks for the comment!
There’s a peep hole on the back of the slide which shows the striker (and there’s a red dot at the end of the striker to make it visually jump out at you). So in true double action mode, the striker is forward and you’d just see an empty hole, and you’d only see the red dot at the end of striker protruding when cocked. Meanwhile, the “sort of single action” mode is similar to the famous HK LEM trigger. The idea for both is that the added weight of a true double action trigger makes it difficult to shoot accurately, not to mention you’d have to learn two separate trigger pulls. So the action is pre-cocked while the trigger is still left in the long position so you’d get the travel distance of a double action trigger but not the weight. You’d have a little less safety, but still much more margin of error than just a normal striker pistol. The P99 trigger does make a small click when you pull the trigger from double action position to single action position, thus also giving you an audible and tactical feedback if something snags on the trigger during, say, reholstering. It’s a really well thought out trigger design, but unfortunately flew over people’s heads and now Walther themselves deleted it for the PPQ and PDP, which sucks.
@@gameragodzilla I get all of that, but the back of the striker in the little hole is not nearly as obvious or easy to feel as a hammer, especially if you're wearing gloves. The AS is like an LEM except with the detent that holds the trigger once you begin to press it, but the LEM has the advantage that in normal use it's always in that mode. In practice you can basically pretend the LEM is a very light DAO, and not have to think about it. Carrying the gun in AS mode is what I think Walther originally envisioned, as otherwise you only get that mode after a reload. But, then you need the two steps (decock, then slightly retract slide to cock the striker) to get back into AS mode after you've been shooting. In contrast, an LEM is already in the "AS" mode as soon as you release the trigger.

I've seen a lot of conflicting information on whether or not Walther makes the P22 in Ulm. I've seen examples with the Ulm proof marks as well as ones with the Arnsberg (aka the Umarex factory location) proof marks.
That's interesting. Yeah, like so many things with gun manufacture... it's probably not set in stone. Still, I tend to think--from a design standpoint--there are the "Ulm-origin" guns and the "Umarex-origin" guns. But... that's a perception, based on conjecture. Which, at some level... I suppose everything is (according to Renee Descartes). Thanks for chiming in!
It looks really cool... I love the 2-tone OD green frame. That said, I'm happy with my first-gen P99? So, I probably wouldn't see the need to buy another one. But if I was in the market for a P99... I'd probably go the NE route. Thanks for the comment!
Yup. The Canik TP-9 guns are basically P99 clones. Canik even reproduced the P99’s decocking system almost exactly, from what I’ve heard. Canik now has their “Mete” line of guns which, I think, are more PPQish… as in, they don’t have the P99-style decockers. No experience with Canik, but I’ve heard they’re solid, dependable pistols. Thanks for the comment!
I love the gen 1 P99s. I mean, I'd be happy to own a gen 2 as well (I mean, I did--with the compact... which I actually sold after this video), but there's something so classically cool about the looks of the gen 1. Thanks for the comment!

excellent video thanks
Thank you, my friend! The P99 is such an iconic pistol--and I think it means more to the history of modern handguns than it gets credit for. Thanks for the comment!
Perhaps the best treatment of this subject to date. DA/SA are the thinking person's decision. P99 is unparalleled in design and function.
I love my P99!
Me too! I don’t think I’ll ever sell mine.
Love my Gen 1 .40 P99
Nice! There's was a .40 P99 at my LGS for a while. Kinda tempted. But... just don't really need a different caliber in the mix. Thanks!
Would you consider buying the “Final Edition” of the P99 that was recently announced?
It looks really cool... I love the 2-tone OD green frame. That said, I'm happy with my first-gen P99? So, I probably wouldn't see the need to buy another one. But if I was in the market for a P99... I'd probably go the NE route. Thanks for the comment!
@@HipsterTactical I might buy it myself despite already having a Gen 3 P99 AS for almost 3 years
Aint the p99 the pistol canik copied?
I'm still happy to have my two P99 Gen 1's in near mint condition and would probably be the last guns I'de ever get rid of !!!
I love the gen 1 P99s. I mean, I'd be happy to own a gen 2 as well (I mean, I did--with the compact... which I actually sold after this video), but there's something so classically cool about the looks of the gen 1. Thanks for the comment!
Dingus is the correct term indeed.
So it’s settled! Thanks for the comment!
“When porno had stories.” Debbie Does Dallas was one of the few movies I saw back in the 70’s, and it did indeed have a story! 🤣🤣🤣 Dingi are annoying, and I only have one pistol (G19) with one. 👍👍👍👍
Frank... please... they're "adult films" not "p0rnos." Hahaha. Just kidding. I mean, if you've gotta pick a movie from the '70s, I suppose debbie does dallas is a solid choice. Thanks for chiming in, as usual. I need to check your videos to see what treasures you've acquired recently. #defythedingus
@@HipsterTactical Too Funny!
The P99as was never fully embraced at the time because of the regurgitated misinformation around da/sa actions.
Great story ✌️
You miss Vonder Nine HK VP70Z -18 round capacity - it was dope in early 70's. Love/hate mine. Neat reference to the Olympic pistol grip designer - all pistols should follow that target profile - except the trend is for packing thin pistols in yer underpants. Sad.
Im a full flap covered leather holster with cleaning rod and mag pocket kind of guy.
Keep on doing these excellent projects👍👍
Thanks so much, buddy! Really appreciate all the kind words and engagement. Sorry--I've gotten behind on replies. Been a busy few weeks at work. Man, I'd love to have a VP70. Dual feed mag. Battlestar Galactica looks. Staple gun trigger. Hell yes. Honestly, the DA trigger on my HK P9S feels about how I imagine the VP70's trigger feels. And I actually shoot pretty well with it. Go figure.
What is that beat at the intro. That bih was hard as ffffd
Thanks, dude!!! I made that… I produce beats. Here’s the link to that track on my SoundCloud: on.soundcloud.com/Wa7UqG3ufbESybzD7

Check me out too dude. I produce and am really popular in atx. I just bought this p99 too lol. I’m an old school James Bond fan with the ppk/s, but I’m looking for a ppk original
I’ve never had a malfunction with a my 80’s era Taurus pt 100 or hk usp 40 soooo you get what u pay for.
Nice! Never had a malfunction with my P99, either.
Fix that support hand grip and you’ll see much better recoil control
I need to fix more than my support hand in that shot… apparently I can’t shoot worth a damn when I’m squatting to get in frame. Thanks for the comment!
I love Glock and the 80's lol .. Good video
Do you have any advice on a walking trigger pin in a P99?
I haven't had that issue, myself. But there is a thread on covering someone else's experience with this issue on the Walther forum. I read through it, and the consensus was that ordering a new trigger pin was the best solution. I'm thinking you can probably find one on Numrich. Good luck! If I come across any more info, I'll let you know.
@@HipsterTactical thanks!
It's a great pistol for everyday open carry.
You have a good assortment of the wonder nines but you collection is missing one of the greatest of them all, the CZ75. You liking a lot of a ll metal guns have to have one of them. You will like!! The P99 is a keeper. One of my favorite Striker fired guns.
Yeah, I need to get a 75. I've had a RAMI and a PCR. Nice guns. I always come back to Sigs, Berettas and Walthers though. And Smith 3rd gens. Thanks for the comment!
The H&K VP70 is before Glock
Very true, good sir.
Bravo....agreed....
Thanks, my friend!
No one waxes as Poetically as you do about Pistols you my friend are thr Pistol Poet...Poet about p38 at end was amazing. I like ppq better than pdp BTW
Aww, thanks, dude! "Pistol Poet"--I'll take it. Part of me wants a PPQ (well, really the Q4SF--or the .45) but... man... that SAO trigger + no safety. It's an existential quandary. Thanks for the watching and for the kind words, my friend!
@@HipsterTactical IMO it would be OK owb it's sorta ok appendix IN Kydex there is a good amount of trigger take up travel so depends on your skills safely slowly reholstering habits
Does the trigger safety really need a video? Is it that much of a problem
Watch the video, homey. There’s subtext, symbolism and allegory in play, here.
You're so Hip...
Haha. Thanks, buddy! I appreciate it--and I try. Happy New Year and see you around PF...
@@HipsterTactical nope apparently me pointing out people's puffy chests and low percentage of range they perpetuate got business isn't acceptable so they bad mouth me
Yeah, people are not afraid to speak their mind on PF. I’ve been “owned” a few times. I but I’ve learned a lot from folks there.
there's a dingus amongus 🤣
Haha. I feel like I'm going to start using that as a derogatory reference... "You're such a dingus."
Love walthers but that being said love glock hk sigs. Just funny how fanboys always gotta take shots at glock. You dont belive gaston talked about making g19 shootable but you do believe walther did talk about making guns shootable. That is stupid. If you cant shoot g19 its you and only you. Its the most popular handgun. But everybody is wrong huh? Thats funny just like what you like and you dont have to pooh on anything else. Glock hasnt changed much in almost 40 years. And ALL other polymers are pretty much copies albeit improved copies.
My point is that--objectively speaking--a Walther P99 will shoot to point of aim more intuitively than a comparable Glock. Among those who've experienced both platforms, I don't think you'd find too many people who'd disagree with that. But if you do... that's fine. We'll agree to disagree.
R u a dingi?
I prefer to see only firearms in day light, instead most of the time , I see dude in shadow of darkness, definitely will not spend my time on someone holding something in he’s hands, so unprofessional and stupid…. If you do gun review, so make visible any dent on it …
Hahaha. I love the internet.
