    I made a similar project about a year ago with pre-quilted fabric and it was the simplicity 8298 pattern. It was really fun and simple. The patterns made for quilted fabric already so it’s actually less complicated if you’re going to use a whole quilt to make it.

    • @TamarasJoyDIY
      @TamarasJoyDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Patricia! I am embarrassed to say I have yet to add closers to it. I have been going back and forth between toggles and buttons and can't make up my mind! (I keep putting it off as it has been so cold here in Canada so this jacket will end up being a fall coat...which means I have too much time to think this through lol!).

    • @TamarasJoyDIY
      @TamarasJoyDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Tracey! I used the size large as I wanted to make sure I had room to wear a sweatshirt underneath and didn't want tight arms. However I did reach out to the company and they said they will no longer sell that pattern. But check this blog post I did as I link to a lot of different coat patterns that could work to do the same thing: tamarasjoy.com/how-to-make-a-quilted-jacket/

    Hey enjoyed your video! I have a few questions though.
    I know the exterior fabric is quilting cotton, but is the lining also quilting cotton, (except for the sleeve lining where you specified on the blog it was lining fabric) or is the entire lining made with lining fabric?
    Since it is fully lined did u use the method of making basically '2 jackets' 1 with the exterior fabric and batting combo, and 1 in the lining ....then sewing them together along all the edges with right sides together and then flipping it right side out? Hence the reason u sewed some of the edges to get a crisp look. (Instead of binding)

    • @TamarasJoyDIY
      @TamarasJoyDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! I am so glad my video helped. As for my lining I made the white part cotton but the cream/brown fabric is a lining fabric so the arms are easier to put on and off. And yes, the pattern I followed had an outer and inner portion which is why it needed to be flipped right side out and then I wanted that crisp look as it looked "rolled" without sewing those edges down. I do think the easier way to make a jacket would be the binding method but as this is the first jacket I made I followed the pattern to a "T" and was happy with the result. Hope you enjoy sewing your quilted jacket! They are adorable!

    Trying to get ready to make my granddaughter a quilted jacket. When putting the bias on the inside seam, did you put it around the arms where they attach tot he jacket as well as down the sides?

    • @TamarasJoyDIY
      @TamarasJoyDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Happy Sewing Marie! for my jacket it had a lining so I didn't have to worry about the inside seams. But if you are using a jacket pattern without a lining then yes, I would add bias tape to all the inside seams.

    I'd like to make a winter coat, with quilting detail. Would this be a good type of coat to have a fleece lining?

    • @TamarasJoyDIY
      @TamarasJoyDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For sure! I would still do the arm lining in a slipperier fabric to make it easy to take on and off. You can also use a thinsulate batting to make it warmer as well.

    Instead of using the marker pen ~ there is a quilting item called quilting tape which you placed on your fabric where you want to sew and just follow the tape edge ~ then just remove the tape ~ no pen marks that may not come out!!

    • @TamarasJoyDIY
      @TamarasJoyDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Savannah! No, I used a different one that sadly has been discontinued. But the new look pattern seems like a better option then what I even did as I don't think you would need to do a lining for that one. I have linked to a bunch of options here: tamarasjoy.com/how-to-make-a-quilted-jacket/

      I have a list of a bunch of different patterns that can be used to make this jacket linked here: tamarasjoy.com/how-to-make-a-quilted-jacket/ but the specific pattern I used it the one called The Waver Jacket, I omitted the waste casing when I made it though and I think I will add toggles instead of buttons.

    I like to turn on the captions in English while I watch videos. The words that you are saying do NOT match the captions in the least! I have never experienced this problem before. It was some kind of promotional jargon about "your dream" and had nothing whatsoever to do with quilting a patchwork jacket. So strange! What's up with that???

    • @TamarasJoyDIY
      @TamarasJoyDIY  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Gracie, that is very weird. I don’t do anything with the captions. TH-cam has it set up that you can choose autogenerated captions. And they create them in their end. I will have to watch the video and see if I see the same thing as you. Hope you have a wonderful day, happy sewing!

    • @graciemaca6996
      @graciemaca6996 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TamarasJoyDIY Hello Tamara, once again I tried the captions in English but they keep reverting to Indonesian, which I am totally unfamiliar with. The problem, as you said, lies with TH-cam communication, not on your end. I cannot lip-read, so I just watch the video and try to get as much out of it as I can. Thanks anyway! 💜👍
