- Driving my self-built campervan on a frozen sea with cinematic drone footage. enjoying the Arctic winter van camping and snowy ice roads near Lulea in Sweden.
A busy day trying my ford transit on the ice roads. What an incredible experience. Followed by a nice seaside park up and the coldest temperatures yet of -25 overnight.
For this trip I have even brought the drone along to get some cinematic shots.
Check out my cold weather & winter van life upgrade videos to see what changes I made to the van for this trip.

Whilst you can literally freeze to death, it is just absolutely stunning!!!
The trip goes far far colder!
The more I watch your adventure the more additive it gets
Thank you very much. I certainly enjoyed myself
Fabulous 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you very much!
Enjoying these videos, I envy your trips 🍺🇳🇴
Thank you for watching!
Brilliant 👍
Cheers :)
Lovely!
Thank you buddy!
11:39 haha "lule" is the local slang for Luleå so you where not wrong there to call it so. Also many people here in the north never say the "Å" if its the last word in a name of a city.
Well then! Glad to hear I got it right!
Hi. New sub here from lost in Europe. Watching from the US. Love your home!
Hello! Thank you very much for joining!
@@MispronouncedAdventures your very welcome! I can't travel right at the moment,so I live thru excellent vanlifers!
7:37 looks like you casually plucked your drone out of the sky whilst flying above some clouds. The reality that you plucked your drone out of the sky whilst driving over an ocean is almost as cool 😎
It was definitely a cool shots!
Never mind ice road truckers! We've got our very own ice road Alex 🤣 Great vlog Alex
Thank you
It's such a weird concept for us in the UK, where 5cm of snow makes everything grind to a halt. I've never had the chance to stand on a frozen pond, let alone drive over open water. Not sure it's going on my wish list?
Yeah for a Brit it’s mad isn’t! Driving on ice!
Nice drive out towards Junkön. If you had driven farther out in the island the first short ice road lead you would have arrived at the sea lane into Luleå harbor. It is open for shipping even in the winter with help of ice breakers. The parking for the restaurant there is on the ice and 300meter from if you can ship pass by. That makes it really obvious you are out on the ice when a ship pas by you a few hundred meters away.
That’s really cool I didn’t know that on the way back there was a shit I could see in the distance Which just seems so bizarre to drive past. those were the two ice roads I saw which had the weight rating for my van
Wow, welcome to my home town! Iceroads are just the most mundane to us. Good for people with summerhouses on the islands to get gear out. I remember a fb-friend from NY reacting to a wintry photo from central Luleå. "What´s that big open space?" A frozen lake. Meh. ;-)
You certainly have a lovely home. It’s always interesting what can be mundane to some people could be completely mind blowing to others! Like a frozen road for me
Good stuff Alex....love the sound of crunchy snow....
Definitely lots of crunchy snow!
Absolutely stunning drive ❤💜
Winter light is so beautiful 😍
It’s amazing here
Fabulous! Cool skills with the drone coming in the window too!
Thank you very much! Much nicer than having to get out the van to grab the drone!
Have you ever run into Erik Normark in your travels? Your in his stomping grounds.
I’ve not, when you say his area, do you mean Luleå? Or Sweden or the Nordics? What’s his channel name?
Amazing 🤩 that’s definitely on my list 👍
It’s an amazing place!
I've just bought a cartcher after borrowing Robs one morning. Sooooo much better that a shower squeegee and kitchen towel 😂
They are pretty amazing
Hats off to you ! Just brilliant adventuring cheers
It’s amazing and a lot more to come
I absolutely love your van I want to get one for myself!!
Thank you very much, glad you like it!
Beautiful shots 👍👍
Thank you very much
great video Alex, and good view of the Northern lights, you can add Ice Road Trucker to your CV and hash tag.
Thank you and Haha I’ll have add it to my CV
Awesome mate! Love the videos.
Thank you! Lots more to come
Another brilliant video,,,you have put some miles on the past 6 months. Thanks for sharing
Yeah one or two miles! It’s a van, it’s meant to be driven!
That was great thanks for putting out content 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it, lots more to come
Nice northern lights. I got cold feet when you were driving on the ice.
And yes, doing the nudist thing where the weather is -14 C, is the thing to do.
I was happy to get a small sight of the light. Road was a lot of fun and I still do think the nudist beach might be a bit nippy
cracking video enjoyed another episode :) many thanks
Glad you enjoyed it! Lots to come
Such an amazing video Alex !!how lucky are we to have campervans. Take care
It’s amazing where a campervan can take you!
Great video, love the drone shots, the ice roads look sick.
Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it
Brilliant vlog Alex, absolutely awesome drive on the ice road. Take it there was a speed limit cuz of bow waves . Just looked so magical driving though a winter wonderland. Keep up the amazing adventures
glad you did enjoyed it. Yeah the speed limit was 30kph. I was probably the only one sticking to it
Great vlog Alex,I’m not at all jealous…..! 😤🤣🤣I know where your coming from about loving your van,I’ve a 10 plate transit that’s covered 493,000 odd miles, taken me all over Europe and I can’t bring myself to get rid🙄currently in for an MOT,few things need doing but should have her back soon.
Safe travels.
Yeah vehicles have character to those who enjoy them! It was a sad day when I sold my old van of six years. so many memories with her.
I hope yours gets back on the road and passes it MOT in no time
@@MispronouncedAdventures Yeo it’s all in hand, thank you, never named mine but often patted the steering wheel when getting back home after a few 1000 miles trip away😃
Hopefully you've sorted problem already 👍🏻 I've put towels round my battery and poured boiled water on the them warmed battery up to start engine it's worked twice and failed once ....nice and peaceful there
Battery wasn’t the issue, you’ll find out next time what the issue was! . The starter has a trickle charger and it based under the driving seat so it’s always a lot warmer than the engine bay were they are installed most of the time.
Another great vlog Alex. Amazing the ice road driving. Love the drone landing part.
What drone do you use?
Glad you enjoyed it. It’s a DJI Spark. Which I would 100% not recommend. Continuous Technical and connection issues during flight so extremely unreliable. It makes flying extremely stressful
@@MispronouncedAdventures thanks for that, no good for me then I'd be a total newbie to drone flying.
Safe travels👍
Yeah. Personally I’m looking into a upgrade, something in the DJI Mavic line
Have you any idea how thick the ice is under the road?
Not sure I’m afraid. The ice roads are tested regularly and maintained by presumably a local authority. Who Constantly update the weight ratings for the ice roads on the signage and the website
The birds fly south . Alex go”s north like your style. Nipped out for a work van came home with a 17 seater transit minibus . Now 4 seats
Wife not impressed. Your tech stuff really helps . I Had a 66 plate transit 350 I bought it as a non runner after ford main dealer told the owner
It had add blue in the oil and refused the warranty only 44000 miles . It was Head gasket blow between 2 a 3 . turbo loom wires broken common fault . The cam belt changes should be about 50k max . the egr actuator looks like an cheap McDonald’s toy and needs checking it’s deep at the back of head . But on the bright side I now know how to rebuild a 2.0 ecoblue engine on a kitchen worktop . Mate your photos fuel dream and
Help me to move forward on my van build . 👍cheers Tom
yeah I’ve always loved the cold! So for me definitely had North over south.
Good job on getting that engine and van to come back to life! Adblue is definitely not an appropriate substitute for engine oil! It actually freezing out here at -11 apparently.
I’ll be getting my timing belt done at some point in the next year. Ford recommends a visual inspection at 104k miles and to be completely changed 144k. I’m at 108K, visually looking at it through the oil filler cap it doesn’t have any designs of deterioration that I’ve seen to worry about.
Glad that I’ve been a help for your builds and I wish you the best of luck on it.
Are you driving on just the K02s ?
Great vlog 👍🏻
Yeah. Just KO2’s, perfectly adequate for 95% of road conditions I come across
This is so damn cool. What is the drone you're using?
It’s been pretty cool and cold that’s for sure. I’m using a old DJI Spark. I would 100% not recommend it, so many Signal issues when flying to the point it’s almost Unflyable.
Hey Alex, what drone have you got?
Thanks, Greg
Ps.: beautiful landscape. SOLITUDE is the name of the game!
Arctic series round one I used an old DJI spark, which, if I’m honest was an absolute nightmare to fly.
Arctic series round two are use a DJI Mavic air 2S which was a pleasure
Nice 👍👌
Hey Alex! What size are those AT tires? We are building camper from longer version of transit (L4H3) and we thought that maybe we should buy somekind of rougher tires too before the summer comes
Hey! These are BFgoodrich KO2 in 225/75R16 115 on stock 16” ford transit alloys. My friend also uses them on a L4H3 transit too
Love your drone photography. It really adds to your videos.
I’m thinking of getting one. Is yours a ‘pro’ version or a standard drone? I’m off to the Alps next month and am keen to buy one beforehand.
Mine is a old DJI spark which I would definitely not recommend! I have so many technical issues with it on every flight with it’s borderline unflyable. In the future I look at upgrading to One of the models in the DJI Mavic line
Thanks. Although you may have issues, the shots look amazing. 👍🏻
Thank you very much! A lot more drone shots to come
a cliff-hanging ending! if there are no more videos, should we presume you are a frozen meat pop-sickle?
I grew up in the USA, Michigan. Guys will drive their trucks onto frozen lake, park and icefish while sitting inside their truck and drink beer while listening to their favorite sports team on the radio. 1st world roughing it.
Assuming you survive, camp overnight on the frozen sea in the Yeti :)
I definitely did make it! Whilst the video is it at least still entertaining process of working through the issues.
Yeah for Brit on the other hand this sort of snow and ice is something we would never seen our country
i love my van so much too!!!!!!! People ask me, what about getting a bigger van, what about this and that etc. the truth is she might be micro but she has got me through some missions and for that i am eternally grateful!
It’s great how much more vans mean to people
This is real van life not like the well established van lifers who end up buying propertys after being on TH-cam for a while
This is what we sign up for
Nice
Glad you are enjoying it. Buying a property is definitely not in my budget!
I thought we were going to get the "-14° pixelated mad naked guy on the nudist beach" shot there for a moment.
Sorry if I’ve disappointed you 😂
@@MispronouncedAdventures
Absolutely NOT!😂
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
🥶 agreed
Yep you are mad, good for you
Thank you! Good mad I hope?
Have to say that's the most "philosophical"
"(It's minus a lot)..... and the van won't start.....hmmm"
I've ever seen.
Panicking and worrying doesn’t help fix the situation you’ve just got to understand it and work through it 😊
@@MispronouncedAdventures
Precisely.
(A career fixing photocopiers others couldn't fix ked me to the same conclusion)
What do you do with a drunken sailor?
Indeed, thought it was an appropriate song choice from the sea
Hi there! Iwould like to know the name of the yellow windshield de-icer blower you have. I been snooping the internet and cant find it. Thank you
Such a great trip! Love the ice road! Iove my vehicles also. I talk to them. I swear they listen! 😅🚐
It’s a kärcher wv2 window vac. It’s not de-ice as such. I melt the ice internally with the cabin heater, and then I use that to suck it all off.
The ice roads are a lot of fun! Vehicles definitely do you have personalities!
@@MispronouncedAdventures oh I see. Great idea! I hate sitting in my vehicle waiting for defrost when I have to get to work.
Yes I believe vehicles listen! Higher power helping out! ✨️
